2007 Jaguar X-type problems
The Jaguar X-Type is a car built by British marque Jaguar from 2001 to 2009. Considered a large family car in Europe and a compact car in the US, the X-Type has either a four-door saloon or a five-door estate body style and was sold in the compact-executive market segment. Given the internal designation X400, its engine is in the front and there are front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive variants. In addition to offering Jaguar's first estate car in series production, the X-Type would ultimately introduce its first diesel engine, four-cylinder engine and front-wheel drive configuration.
The X-Type was developed during the period when Jaguar was owned by Ford as a division of its Premier Automotive Group (PAG) (1999-2009) — and marked Jaguar's entry into the critical compact executive segment. The programme aimed to double the marque's worldwide sales — requiring expansion of engineering resources, factory capacity, marketing capability, sales support and service. At launch, Autocar called the X-Type "the most important Jaguar ever".
With annual projections of 100,000 sales, the X-Type recorded a production of 350,000 over its eight-year manufacturing run.

Common 2007 Jaguar X-type problems
The Jaguar X-Type, particularly the 2007 model, has a range of common problems reported by owners. These issues affect various parts of the car, including the suspension, engine, clutch and gearbox, chrome trim, brakes and handbrakes, door latches, and indicators.
Suspension issues are prevalent in the Jaguar X-Type, with some owners reporting premature wear and problems with various components of the suspension system, such as bushings, control arms, and other parts. These issues can lead to symptoms like a rough ride, uneven tire wear, or handling problems.
Engine problems in the Jaguar X-Type can vary widely in severity and frequency. Some of these issues include coolant leaks and problems with the water pump, oil leaks attributed to faulty valve cover gaskets or oil pan gaskets, ignition coil failure leading to misfires, timing chain tensioner issues causing noise, poor performance, or even engine damage, thermostat failures causing overheating issues, and problems with the fuel pump leading to poor engine performance.
Clutch and gearbox issues are also common in the Jaguar X-Type. Some drivers have complained about the clutch, which can cause problems with changing gears, such as being too slow or rough, slipping out of gear, juddering, or shivering. These problems could be due to low or dirty gearbox oil, faulty solenoids, sensors, valves, or internal wear and tear.
Problems with the chrome trim are another common issue in the Jaguar X-Type. Owners complain about the trim on the exterior window seals bubbling and peeling off, especially on older models. The trim on the rear quarter glass can become loose and fall off, allowing dirt and water to enter the vehicle and causing even more problems. The trim can also become cloudy and dull because of salt and dirt exposure while on the road.
Problems with the brakes and handbrakes have been reported by some Jaguar X-Type owners. The brake pads and discs can wear down faster than expected, requiring earlier replacement. Corrosion or lack of lubrication can result in seized brake callipers, which can affect braking performance and cause damage to the brake discs and pads. Some owners have also experienced issues with the handbrake not working correctly on an incline or problems engaging and releasing it.
Door latch problems are common in the Jaguar X-Type, with owners reporting issues like the door sensor breaking or failing, making the car think that the door is always open, even when it isn't. This glitch can impact the central locking system, alarm, interior lights, and even the car battery. Problems with door wiring, such as damage, breakage, or corrosion, can also disrupt signals between the door and the car, resulting in electrical faults and errors.
Issues with the indicators are another common problem in the Jaguar X-Type. Some owners report that the external indicator can break, but the interior light will continue to flash for the driver, making them unaware that other drivers cannot see they are indicating. This breaks UK law. Other drivers report that the indicator bulbs stop working or become dim because they are old, worn out, or corroded, while a few report that the indicator stalk, or lever, stops working or breaks because of faulty wiring or connectors.
Why are Jaguar X types so cheap?
Jaguar had high hopes that the X-Type model would make the brand much more popular, but it did not sell as well as they expected. As a result, used X-Types are now very reasonably priced, even though they still drive nicely and have a unique look.
What is the rear suspension problem with the Jaguar X-Type?
Suspension. Suspension on both Jaguar X-type and Jaguar XF models has been known to succumb to wear and tear over time. The rear suspension in particular is subject to decay. The problem is first identifiable from a knocking noise if the car is driven over speed bumps and/or rough surfaces.
How long do Jaguar X-Type last?
Most Jaguar vehicles will last for at least 150,000 miles, but there's a lot that a driver can do to push this number much higher. With regular oil replacement, belt changes, spark plug replacement, and other basic maintenance services, you can ensure that your Jaguar lasts for 200,000 miles or more.
Do Jaguars have transmission problems?
Jaguars are infamous for their transmission problems. Almost all of them nowadays are equipped with an automatic transmission which fails because of one main reason - issues with the double changing gears.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-12-11
- Crash: 1
- VIN: SAJWA44B775
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: On at least 3 occasions, my vehicle had unintended acceleration and applying brakes did not stop the car. I put it in park to stop. I took it to the Foreign performance (mechanic shop) on 11-29-23 after the first time and they said they fixed it. It occurred again on 12-8-23. I again threw it into park. I called the shop on 12-11-23 and they agreed to see it on 12-12-23. I hit a car on 12-11-23 around 11:45 am coming out of my driveway. I had my car towed to mechanic. The other car did not need to be towed. On 12-20-23, Foreign Performance wrote: "Vehicle is driving normally at this time. Checked for any set faults, none stored. Tested the function of the accelerator pedal and the throttle body. Both function normally. There are no bulletin issues by the manufacturer for this problem related to this vehicle. Called the dealership to ask what they are doing to fix this problem with uncontrolled acceleration. They claim to never heard of such a problem and that they no longer work on these vehicles. The problem is well documented nationally and has existed since the vehicle was first produced. Bottom line is that the manufacturer and dealerships have washed their hands on the vehicle. The only advise to give would be to replace the accelerator pedal assembly, the throttle body and the engine control module all together and then program the engine control module to the highest level that is available. Vehicle should not be driven by the customer." Foreign Performance said they would not guarantee my vehicle would never do this again after their recommended repairs of $4027.91. It was Christmas, I was leaving on a planned vacation for two weeks and it was complicated so the vehicle is still at Foreign Performance and no work has been done so all components are available for inspection. No warning lights. Police and State Farm insurance have been involved. Needs body work as well after MVA--estimate of $1100 per state farm.

- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: WHILE DRIVING THE PASSENGER FOOTWELL BECAME DRENCHED WITH WATER WHICH STARTLED THE DRIVER AND OBVIOUSLY THE PASSENGER WHO WAS WET AND HER SHOES SOAKED IN WATER. THE CAUSE IS SOMETHING JAGUAR IS AWARE OF BECAUSE THEY HAVE ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN TSB JTB001211 WHICH REPLACES THE DRAIN TUBE FROM THE AC. THIS IS A REAL SAFETY CONCERN AND MANY JAGUAR XK VEHICLES 2007-2011 HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE BEEN FORCED TO PAY $1,200 - $1,500 FOR THE DEFECT TO BE REPAIRED. MANY VEHICLES ARE OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY PERIOD. THE SUDDEN RUSH OF WATER FROM THE DASH IS LIKELY TO CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. *TR
FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE,POWER TRAIN,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2012-12-21
- VIN: SAJWA51A87W
- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE,POWER TRAIN,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: THE ENGINE STALLED OUT WHEN WE WERE TRAVELING IN THE PASSING LANE AT SPEED ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. WE HAD TO MOVE TO THE RIGHT SIDE SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY IN FRONT OF ANOTHER VEHICLE WE HAD JUST PASSED AND OTHER TRAFFIC COMING CLOSE BEHIND. DEFINITELY A SCARY SITUATION FOR US AND THE OTHER DRIVERS. WE WERE TOWED TO THE NEAREST JAG DEALER. THE DEALER HAD OUR CAR FOR TWO WEEKS. THEY REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP. THE SERVICE TECH'S TOLD US THAT THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF A FUEL PUMP GOING BAD IN AN X-TYPE. WHEN I QUESTIONED THE COST OF THE JOB, ABOUT $1450, I WAS TOLD THAT THE FUEL TANK HAD TO BE REMOVED TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP. SINCE THAT TIME, WE HAVE HAD A BATTERY REPLACED, THE SECOND FOR THIS CAR SINCE WE HAVE OWNED IT, AND HAD TO HAVE BRAKE PADS REPLACED, AT WHICH TIME, WE WERE TOLD THAT THE REAR BRAKES HAD A PROBLEM IN THE CALIPERS THAT CAUSED THE PADS TO SIT FURTHER FROM THE DISCS THAN THEY SHOULD. THIS BRAKE PROBLEM CAUSES US TO USE EXTRA PEDAL TRAVEL WHEN BRAKING THE CAR. THEN, ON DEC 9, 2013, THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL FELL OUT OF THE BOTTOM OF OUR CAR. WE WERE ONLY DOING ABOUT 20 MPH SO THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT, BUT WE HAD TO BE TOWED TO A JAG DEALER ABOUT 30 MILES AWAY. MY RESEARCH FOUND THAT WHEN THE FUEL TANK IS REMOVED, THE DIFFERENTIAL WOULD ALSO BE REMOVED. THIS WAS CONFIRMED BY THE SERVICE WRITER WHERE MY JAG WAS TOWED. ONE OF THE DIFFERENTIALS BOLTS BROKE WHERE IT APPEARED TO HAVE BEEN CRACKED, AS IF IT HAD BEEN OVER TORQUED WHEN INSTALLED! THE SERVICE WRITER ASKED TO SEE THE WORK ORDER FOR THE FUEL PUMP WORK, SO I ASKED HIM TO LOOK IT UP. HE WAS NOT ABLE TO FIND THE INFO, BECAUSE THE WORK WAS DONE OUT OF WARRANTY AND THE JAG SYSTEM DOES NOT RECORD OUT OF WARRANTY WORK! THAT IS PROBABLY WHY THE TECHS NEVER HEARD OF A FUEL PUMP GOING BAD OR A DIFFERENTIAL FALLING OUT OF A JAG CAR, EVEN THOUGH THERE HAVE BEEN EXAMPLES OF BOTH REPORTED HERE! *TR
FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2013-01-04
- VIN: SAJDA44B575
- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
- Summary: INCIDENT #1 - JAN 2013: AS I WAS BRAKING TO A STOP, THE CAR SUDDENLY WENT TO WHAT I WOULD CALL "FULL THROTTLE". MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE SO I FIRMLY PRESSED THE BRAKE TO PREVENT THE CAR FROM CRASHING INTO MY BUILDING. I TRIED PUMPING THE ACCELERATOR QUICKLY WHILE PRACTICALLY STANDING ON THE BRAKE BUT THAT MADE NO DIFFERENCE IN THE RPMS. I PRESSED THE BUTTON TO STOP THE ENGINE. I RE-STARTED THE CAR AND IT RAN NORMALLY. INCIDENT #2 - FEB 2013: THINKING INCIDENT #1, ABOVE, WAS A FLUKE, I CONTINUED DRIVING THE CAR WITHOUT REPORTING THE INCIDENT TO MY JAGUAR DEALER. MY VICE PRESIDENT AND I STOPPED AT A MCDONALD'S, PAID AT WINDOW #1 AND AS WE MOVED TO WINDOW #2 TO PICK UP THE FOOD, THE CAR AGAIN WENT TO FULL THROTTLE'WITH NO ADVANCE WARNING WITH THE BACK WHEELS SPINNING. MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE AS THERE WAS A CAR IN THE LANE IN FRONT OF ME. THIS TIME I KNEW TO TURN THE ENGINE OFF QUICKLY. AGAIN, THE CAR RAN NORMALLY AFTER RE-STARTING IT. MY VICE PRESIDENT, JACK FRENCH, WILL PROVIDE TESTIMONY TO THIS INCIDENT. INCIDENT #3 - EARLY APRIL 2013: THE CAR WAS PARKED ALL DAY. I GOT IN TO LEAVE FOR THE DAY AND STARTED THE ENGINE. WHILE THE CAR WAS STILL IN PARK, THE ENGINE REVVED TO RED-LINE 4 TIMES IN A ROW ABOUT 2 SECS EACH. I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL WHILE IT WAS DOING THIS AND NEVER TOUCHED THE ACCELERATOR OR BRAKE PEDAL DURING THE INCIDENT. AFTER REVVING FOUR TIMES TO RED LINE, THE ENGINE WENT BACK TO NORMAL IDLE. INCIDENT #4 - APRIL 25TH: MY VP AND I WERE AT A MEETING WITH THE CAR PARKED FOR SEVERAL HOURS. WE GOT IN AND DROVE ABOUT 4 BLOCKS. AS I BRAKED TO A STOP AT A STOP SIGN WITH A CAR IN FRONT OF ME , THE ENGINE AGAIN WENT FULL-THROTTLE WITH NO WARNING; THE BACK WHEELS SPINNING. I AGAIN PRESSED THE START BUTTON AND TURNED THE ENGINE OFF. MY VICE PRESIDENT WILL PROVIDE WRITTEN TESTIMONY OF THIS INCIDENT AS WELL. *TR

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2012-12-04
- VIN: SAJWA43B375
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
- Summary: WHILE ACCELERATING TO CHANGE LANES MY VEHICLE WENT INTO WIDE OPEN THROTTLE. DESPITE REMOVING MY FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR AND SLAMMING ON THE BRAKES THE CAR COULD ONLY BE SLOWED TO 40 MPH. HIT THE IGNITION SWITCH WHICH SHUT THE VEHICLE DOWN INCLUDING LIGHTS. APPEARED I WOULD BE REAR ENDED THEREFORE HIT IGNITION AND VEHICLE RESTARTED WITH CAR STILL STUCK IN WOT WITH FOOT OFF ACCELERATOR. WITH ENGINE SCREAMING AND RIGHT FOOT FULLY ON BRAKE ONLY ABLE TO HOLD CAR DOWN TO 40 MPH. HIT IGNITION AGAIN WHICH SHUT CAR DOWN BUT ONCE AGAIN FOLLOWING CAR ABOUT TO REAR END ME AND THEREFORE ONCE AGAIN HIT THE IGNITION WITH SAME RESULT WITH CAR RACING FORWARD AT WIDE OPEN THROTTLE DESPITE NO ENGAGEMENT OF THE ACCELERATOR. THIS TIME AFTER HOLDING THE VEHICLE TO ABOUT 40 MPH WITH FULL PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE WITH MY RIGHT FOOT, AND THE ENGINE AT WIDE OPEN THROTTLE, ALL CARS HAD CLEARED OUT OF THE WAY. I THEREFORE HIT THE IGNITION SWITCH WHICH SHUT DOWN THE VEHICLE. THIS TIME I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO A FULL STOP. I THEN PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL (UP UNTIL THIS TIME IT HAD BEEN IN DRIVE) AND PUSHED THE IGNITION ON THE CAR AND IT STARTED AT NORMAL RPM. I THEN SHIFTED INTO DRIVE AND THE ENGINE REMAINED AT IDLE SPEED. I THEN , AT IDLE SPEED, TRAVELED TWO BLOCKS TO MY HOUSE. THE SMELL OF THE BURNING BRAKE PADS WAS TERRIBLE. THE NEXT MORNING I HAD THE VEHICLE TRANSPORTED ON A FLAT BED TRUCK TO THE LOCAL JAGUAR DEALER WHERE THE VEHICLE REMAINS TO THIS DATE. THIS ALL TRANSPIRED OVER APPROXIMATELY 300-400 YARDS OVER A NUMBER OF SECONDS. THERE WAS NOTHING ON THE FLOOR OR IN THE DRIVING COMPARTMENT THAT INTERFERED WITH THE ACCELERATOR OR BRAKE. *TR
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2012-01-27
- VIN: SAJWA51A27W
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS (1/27/12 AND 3/23/12) THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING 65-70 MPH ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY AND THE ENGINE STALLED. THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE RESTARTED AND WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. FOR THE 1/27/12 EVENT, THE VEHICLE STALLED OUT IN THE PASSING LANE AND I HAD TO MAKE IT TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER. THE DEALER DID NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE AFTER AN EXHAUSTIVE DIAGNOSIS. IT ALSO INCLUDED DRIVING THE VEHICLE OVER 400 MILES, MOST OF THEM AT A HIGH SPEED, IN AN ATTEMPT TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. IT DID STALL-OUT ONCE, AND THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AFTER 30 MINUTES. THE SECOND EVENT WAS A MERGE FROM ONE INTERSTATE TO ANOTHER WITH THE VEHICLE STOPPING ON AN EXIT RAMP BRIDGE LEAVING LITTLE ROOM BETWEEN THE CAR AND BRIDGE WALL ON ONE SIDE AND THE EXIT RAMP ON THE OTHER. THIS RESULTED IN THE RECOMMENDATION TO REPLACE THE TWO FUEL PUMPS - WHICH I HAVE IN MY POSSESSION. I DO WANT TO POINT OUT THAT IN BOTH EVENTS WE WERE IN GREAT FEAR FOR OUR SAFETY. I ASSUME THIS IS NOT A COMMON PROBLEM, SINCE THERE HAS BEEN NO RECALL OF THE FUEL PUMPS. I DID WANT TO REPORT IT IN CASE THERE IS AN EMERGING PROBLEM. *TR

I just replaced my 03 X Type 2.5 with an 06 3 Liter X. The new car has far better acceleration and handling. As part of the sunroof package, you get 17-inch wheels and wider tires. I also noticed that Jaguar has made a number of subtle improvements since 03. The brakes are better with no dust problem, the center console is of higher quality, a second cupholder has been added, and the seats have been improved. Another plus is the availability of Jaguar's extended warranty for a reasonable price. I opted for the 7-year - 100K because this car is a keeper.

Thank you Jaguar. We traded in a Mercedes Benz for the new wagon. It's been a blast to drive and a real sport wagon. Both my wife and I have been enjoying driving the car. The new design really caught our eye and we just had to have one. We get lots of comments on the street about it and lots and lots of smiles. Again, thank you Jaguar!

I've had a good experience so far, and I've received many compliments when others drive my car.

Second X-Type in 2 years. I'm so glad to hear that you're very happy with the rich look of the interior. The outside is styled really well too! It sounds like you got a great deal for the 35k price range.

Absolute comfort and power. Real eye catcher. You'll get more looks and positive comments than you ever received with your BMW, Audi, MB 320C.

I used to own an S-Type, but when I drove an X-Type as a loaner, I realized that I needed a car that could perform well in bad weather. So, I decided to prioritize that over amenities and downsized. Although I miss some features like automatic seat adjustment and a softer ride, I really enjoy the confidence and handling of my VDL. What makes me loyal to my current dealer is their excellent service and performance. If the S-Type had better bad weather driving capability, I would consider returning to that vehicle. Alternatively, if the X-Type could be upgraded, I would be a happy and contented driver.

At 87K miles, one would expect all parts of the powertrain to be intact, but unfortunately, that is not the case with the X type. The dealership has informed me that I need a transmission, axle, transfer case, and water pump. I recently fixed the wiper motor, and the engine is now pinging. Initially, I thought I just got a troublesome car, but after talking to two other owners in the Jaguar waiting room, I learned that the transmission went out on their cars too. It's no wonder that they offer only a 50K mile warranty for such an expensive car. The one thing that hurts so much is the value drops like gravity. I owe 20K on this car, and it looks nice and all, but according to KBB, it's only worth 11K. Consider yourself warned. I suggest staying away from this car.

Hi there! While this car may be good looking, it seems like it had a few issues. The air bag sensor, windows, and emergency brake cable were all squeaky and it took four trips to the service center to get everything fixed. But don't worry, everything is all good now!

At under 30,000 miles, the interior of my Jaguar began to fall apart despite being kept in perfect condition. Despite my disappointment, I was able to get it fixed for $1800. While I had a negative experience with the senior maintenance manager, I remain confident in my decision to never purchase another Jaguar again. I look forward to finding a new owner for this one.

I bought a Jaguar hoping to become a fan, but unfortunately, it turned out to be the worst financial decision I have ever made. The engine died after only 2000 miles, and I have had to replace the transmission three times, the lightbulbs in my headlights four times, and the tires three times, all within just 12000 miles. I have visited the dealer so many times that I know the employees on a first-name basis. I am finally trading it in for a BMW, a car that I am confident will last. I have put more miles on my Kia Rio than on my Jaguar. I would advise anyone to stay away from this car.
