The Ford Crown Victoria ("Crown Vic") is a full-size sedan that was marketed and manufactured by Ford. The successor to the Ford LTD Crown Victoria, two generations of the model line were produced from the 1992 until the 2012 model years. The Ford counterpart of the Mercury Grand Marquis, the Crown Victoria was the largest sedan marketed by Ford in North America, slotted above the Ford Taurus. The Crown Victoria Police Interceptor (1992–2011) was marketed specifically for law-enforcement use; a long-wheelbase Crown Victoria sedan (2002–2011) was marketed primarily for taxi cab fleets.

The Crown Victoria was produced on the rear-wheel drive, body-on-frame Ford Panther platform, sharing its chassis with the Grand Marquis and Lincoln Town Car. From 1997 until their 2011 discontinuation, the three model lines were the sole four-door sedans produced in North America with a full-length frame, rear-wheel drive, and a standard V8 engine. While the front and rear crumple zones were engineered into the vehicle, it was one of Ford's products that were not of unibody construction for the entire generation. The Crown Victoria was the last car made using the Ford Panther platform.

For its entire production, the Crown Victoria was produced by Ford Canada alongside the Grand Marquis at St. Thomas Assembly in Southwold, Ontario. From 1991 until 2011, over 1.5 million cars (including Police Interceptors) were produced by St. Thomas Assembly prior to its closure. A 2012 Crown Victoria (intended for Middle East export) was the final vehicle produced by the facility. Following the discontinuation of the model line, the Crown Victoria was not directly replaced, with the full-size Ford Taurus serving as the next basis for Ford police cars.

STEERING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-08-02
  • VIN: 2FDHP74W66X
  • Components: STEERING
  • Summary: I HAD THIS VEHICLE IN FOR THE RECALL IN 2014 AND ACCORDING TO THE DEALER REPAIR THE STEERING COLUMN WAS WITHIN LIMITS NOT TO COMPLETE THE SECOND HALF OF RECALL 13S08 BUT A FEW WEEKS AGO MY STEERING SHAFT SEPARATED WITH NO WARNING AND I CAME TO A REST IN AN INTERSECTION. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AND THEY CONFIRMED THE SEPARATION OF STEERING. I DID NOT PUT A CLAIM INTO INSURANCE AND NO DAMAGE WAS DONE TO ANY OTHER VEHICLE SO THE POLICE WERE NOT CALLED. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED UNTIL AFTER THE FAILURE. THANKFULLY I WAS NOT ON THE HIGHWAY. I CONTACTED FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND THEY WERE NO HELP AS WELL AS THE DEALER WHO DID THE RECALL IN 2014. THEY SAID THAT THE RECALL WAS DONE WITHIN THE PERIMETERS OF THE PROCESS AND THAT THEY COULDN'T HELP ME. I NOW HAVE SPENT OVER $1500 ON REPAIRS AND STILL IS NOT CORRECT AND I AM WORRIED ABOUT IT HAPPENING AGAIN. I THINK THAT THE SECOND PART OF THE RECALL SHOULD BE MANDATORY WITH THE BRACKET THAT HOLDS THE COLUMN FROM SLIPPING OUT. JUST PRIOR TO THE STEERING COLUMN BREAKING JUST BEFORE I TURNED THERE WAS A SLIGHT BINDING AND THEN IT SEPARATED. OTHER THAN THAT THERE WAS NO WARNING. I GOT THE RECALL DONE AS SOON AS I GOT THE LETTER IN THE MAIL AND I THINK FORD SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS REPAIR AS WELL AS ALL THE CROWN VICTORIAS ON THE ROAD. THANK YOU.

Positive 2006 Ford Crown victoria car reviews

  1. Darren Predovic 2024-10-23

I completely agree with you about Ford Crown Vic's! They are incredibly reliable and I have had great experiences with them. I have put over 150,000 miles on them and then sold them to others who have driven them for years without any issues. They are definitely one of the most reliable American cars out there, with no electrical problems, head gasket problems, or transmission issues. I have never had to spend money on repairs other than regular maintenance. My 2005 'LX' Sport is not only comfortable, but it is also great in the snow and ice thanks to the traction control, and it gets an impressive 25 mpg on the highway. Living and travelling in Minnesota, I also appreciate the safety features, especially since the drivers here are some of the worst I have ever encountered. I have tried other cars, but none of them compare in terms of value and reliability.

  2. Jocelyn Conroy 2024-10-23

I completely understand the frustration of the person complaining about the resale value, but it's important to do thorough research before making a purchase. Personally, I bought my car with the intention of driving it for as long as possible, so depreciation wasn't a major concern for me. Regarding the comment in the Vehicle Overview about the car being large and unwieldy, I have to disagree. In comparison to a full-sized SUV, this car is incredibly easy to drive and park. The suspension, steering, and wheels all contribute to a smooth and enjoyable driving experience. If Ford were to invest a bit more in the interior materials, add the 300HP 3 valve engine to the LX Sport, and promote the car more effectively, I believe they could sell a significant number of units. In my opinion, the 300C is not a major factor to consider when evaluating this car.
