The Infiniti QX80 (formerly called the Infiniti QX56 until 2013) is a full-size luxury SUV marketed by Nissan's luxury division Infiniti. The first-generation QX56 was built in the United States and is based on the first-generation Armada. The second-generation model was released in 2010 as a model produced in Japan, which used the sixth-generation Patrol (later also marketed as the second-generation Armada since 2016) as the base vehicle instead. Since the 2014 model year in 2013, the vehicle was renamed to the QX80 as Infiniti renamed their entire product line under a new nomenclature.
First generation (JA60; 2004)
The first-generation QX56 (model code JA60) is based on the first-generation Armada, while also sharing the F-Alpha platform with the first-generation Titan. It is the first Infiniti built in the United States. The QX56 was only marketed in the United States, Canada, Russia, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, UAE, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. Development on the JA60 QX56 began in early 2000 alongside the WA60 Armada. A final design by Masato Takahashi was reached in early 2001, with an August 2001 design freeze for early 2004 start of production.
The rear door handles were installed on the C-pillar as a Nissan design tradition started with the D21 Pathfinder released in 1985 to visually make it appear like a two-door truck with a camper shell, with conventional door handles on the front doors.
The first-generation QX56 was powered by a 5.6-liter VK56DE V8 engine (320 hp (239 kW) at 4,900 rpm and 393 lb⋅ft (533 N⋅m) torque at 3,600 rpm) and a 5-speed automatic transmission with an overdrive. As is common with aluminum blocks, each cylinder in the engine was lined with cast iron. The valvetrain was a DOHC design with four valves per cylinder. Infiniti designed the QX56's throttle responsiveness to correspond to specific drivetrain modes: when the driver selects all-wheel drive, the throttle becomes less sensitive, presumably to allow easier regulation of acceleration when off-road.
The QX56 had around 9,000 lb (4,082 kg) of towing capacity. Mileage at peak performance drain is 12 miles per US gallon (20 L/100 km; 14 mpg‑imp). It comes in one trim level, with only key options such as: DVD entertainment system, 4WD/2WD, and a bench instead of captain chairs as the second row. Other features which came standard were a ten-speaker Bose system, DVD-based navigation system, leather trim for all seats, dual-climate control, 18-inch chrome alloy wheels, and an adaptive cruise control system. A Precrash system was a unique feature in the market as well.
Since the demise of the Q45 (which was priced above the QX56) after 2006, the QX56 was the most expensive Infiniti sold in North America and was Infiniti's only full-size vehicle.
In early 2007 for the 2008 model year, the Infiniti QX56 received a minor facelift which included a revised grille, a redesigned interior, a new intelligent key system, more standard equipment, new third-row seats that fold electronically and standard 20-inch chrome wheels. Introduced at the 2007 North American International Auto Show in January 2007, the facelifted model went on sale in April 2007.
After the 2010 model year, the QX56 and Armada no longer share the same body, as the first-generation Armada continued to be produced in the United States until the 2015 model year, while the second-generation QX56 switched to the body used by the Y62 Patrol.

Hello! I just wanted to share my experience with my 2015 QX80, which is actually my second Infiniti full size SUV. I loved my 2006 QX56 so much that I still own it as a third vehicle for our family. I put over 205,000 miles on it and had absolutely no problems. UPDATE - Currently have 260,000 miles on my QX80. It's been a great quality vehicle with an outstanding ownership experience. When it came time to look at new vehicles, I did a rigorous evaluation before purchasing my 2015 QX80. I looked at several options, including the Ford Expedition, Lincoln Navigator, Cadillac Escalade, GMC Yukon Denali, Chevy Tahoe LTZ, and Toyota Sequoia Platinum. As someone who is 6'-8The 315 horses available on my 2006 QX56 were adequate, and the new fuel injection on the QX80 provides a noticeable difference in power. The greatest improvements with the QX-80 are in the changes made with technology to improve the ride and make the driving experience safer. The blind spot monitor has been a tremendous help, and the intelligent cruise control is an amazing technology that monitors what is happening with vehicles ahead of you to ensure safe distances are maintained. If you have not used this technology, you will love it as you can set the interval you are looking to maintain, and the sensors on the vehicle do an amazing job of monitoring not only the vehicle immediately in front of you but also the vehicle ahead to determine if there is a potential safety hazard and will automatically adjust the set speed accordingly. The driving and passenger ride experience is incredibly comfortable. With the long wheelbase, quality seats, and suspension system, the QX80 provides a luxury car ride for your passengers. I get so many compliments from those riding with me about how incredibly comfortable the ride is, as well as how impressed they are with the luxury finish. Infiniti has used very high-quality materials, and it is very evident in the look and feel of the vehicle. Even with the size of a full-size SUV, the QX80 handles incredibly well for both highway and city driving, and the surround view cameras and sensors make it very easy to handle the vehicle even in tight spaces. The turning radius is excellent for this size vehicle, and I can actually U-turn in a much smaller radius than many passenger cars. This vehicle is a dream to drive on the highway as the ride is so comfortable, yet when needed, the handling is very responsive. Another great advantage of a full-size SUV is the amount of cargo you can haul in the cargo area behind the 2nd row, and if necessary, with the second-row captain seats folded down.I've been hauling a lot of gear in my vehicle for years, and for the past two years, I've been transporting dogs for a senior dog rescue. The voluminous cargo area is great and provides a lot of flexibility. What's really impressive is the elegant engineering of how the 3rd row seating folds into the floor. While I agree with the other two reviews listed regarding the low end of the gas gauge accuracy, and at times the shifting of the transmission could be smoother, these are very small issues compared to the overall quality and experience of owning this vehicle. The QX80 also has unique styling which you may either love or hate, but you won't look like every other full-size SUV on the road. I personally really like the styling as it is not just a square box like so many of the competitors. I love my 2015 Infiniti QX80, and I would highly recommend this vehicle to anyone. I now have 220,000 miles on my QX80 with very few issues. I am very diligent with oil changes and tire rotations. We have been so impressed with my QX80 that we purchased a new 2017 QX60 for my wife to replace her old vehicle. She loves it!

If you're concerned about gas pricing, this vehicle may not be the most cost-effective option. However, this SUV is a fantastic choice to own and drive, with its impressive features and performance. Personally, I have owned three QXs and am looking forward to getting my fourth one soon. In my experience, every competitor vehicle I have been in has been primarily made of plastic and drove like a forklift. This vehicle is truly superior in every way, regardless of price.

The window sticker showed a price just below $90,000, so it was not exactly cheap. However, the handling and traction in northern NY is as good as it gets. Although the ride quality is a little rough, you get excellent road handling for a 6000 lb. vehicle in return. We have not had any issues with the car up to 37,000 miles, except for replacing the windshield wipers. We bought 4 new tires at 34,999 miles for $1,200. The controls may be a little confusing for someone used to American cars like us, but once you get used to them, they are easy to operate. The seat upholstery is the best we have seen and all the interior roof, side, pillars etc. are covered in what appears to be suede leather. Very nice, very classy. The comfort of long trips (we drive 1300 miles to Florida) is outstanding, one of the best we ever experienced. Highway driving is effortless and very quiet. Overall, we love this SUV and would definitely buy another QX 80 in a couple more years. This is only our second foreign car and we are very positively impressed.

The car is great overall! However, it seems that the Infinity QX80 does not hold its value very well. If you plan on selling your used QX80, you may expect to take a significant loss. For example, I bought mine a little over a year ago with a sticker price of 81K, and now, one year later, it's valued at 48K, which is a 30K+ drop in just one year. Despite this, I appreciate the experience and will consider other options in the future.

I recently rented a QX-80 and drove over 300 miles in Colorado during some rainy and snowy weather. Surprisingly, I never had to use the 4wd. While the controls were not the easiest to figure out, the power of the V8 engine was strong. However, at higher speeds, the motor felt a bit sketchy, which may be due to the 5 or 6 speed transmission. During acceleration, the transmission had a tendency to double shift, which made passing less smooth. Despite this, the vehicle handled well and even managed to navigate through Garden of Gods at a low speed. The entertainment system was a bit tricky to use at first, but once I got used to it, it was fine. The QX-80 was very comfortable and could easily accommodate six people. Overall, I would definitely rent it again, but I don't think I would buy it, especially for the price of 65K-70K. I have higher expectations for a vehicle at that price point.

The front wheel bearings on my 2016 vehicle failed at an unusually low mileage of 44k and 7 years of age, resulting in a costly replacement of over $1200. Additionally, the cruise control can be jerky, and the transmission produces loud noises when shifting gears. The infotainment system can be unreliable in connecting to my phone. While the vehicle is powerful, it has a low fuel efficiency of 10mpg in the city.

My review is negative because of the car quality, not the overall company. However, I had a great experience with the local dealer here. I'm very disappointed with the QX80 2018. The quality of the backup camera and the 360-degree cameras is by far the worst in the car market. It looks like a camera from 10 years ago. The car also consumes too much gas. I'm averaging 11 miles in the city and 13.5 in the highway. I had big engine cars all my life, and this car is the worst in that department. When you pay over 75k for a car, you would expect a better backup camera. That's my biggest complaint with the car. At night, you can't even see anything.

I rented this car for a 2-day mountain trip. When I first got in, I noticed that the traction control off light was on and the car shifted a bit strangely in Auto, 4H or 4L modes. It either jerked you right off your seat when you stepped on it or shifted too quickly, making you feel the automatic transmission shifting 5 times in one second. The brakes were also a bit difficult to control as the downshifting made the car jerk as it slowed down. However, the car had good visibility to the outside and was comfortable for passengers not in the back row. After driving our vehicle for 2 years and 30K miles, we started experiencing engine noise, specifically a ticking sound from the valve train. We brought the vehicle back to the dealership at 50K miles, but they were unable to find any scarring after scoping the number 7 cylinder. Unfortunately, the noise continued to get louder. We brought the vehicle back a third time, but this time after the factory warranty had expired. The dealership found scarring and replaced the engine, but only after the original warranty had ended. We were grateful that we had purchased Certified at 12K miles and added the elite wrap protection. At 87K miles, we needed a new air compressor, seat heater elements, and running board approach lights. As our wrap coverage is due to end, we have decided to sell the vehicle.
