2022 Chevrolet Traverse problems
The Chevrolet Traverse is a full-size crossover SUV with three-row seating built by General Motors. It is built on the same platform as the GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave, known as the Lambda platform for the first generation, and the C1XX for the second generation. It also shares the C1XX platform with the Cadillac XT6. It is the successor to the TrailBlazer body-on-frame SUV and the Uplander minivan.
The second-generation model debuted in showrooms in the summer of 2017. Starting with the 2019 model year, the Traverse was slotted above the new mid-size Chevrolet Blazer as part of Chevrolet's plans to expand its SUV lineup.
The Traverse name was originally used for a concept car at the 2003 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, but that concept gave way when the Equinox launched for the 2005 model year.

POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-30
- VIN: 1GNERGKW9NJ
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: Nearly every time I go to turn the power off the screen says "shift to park" but it's in park. The engine turns off and the vehicle SEEMS to be in park, but who knows? Then it keeps "dinging" and won't turn off. When I walk away with the keys it honks at me. I'm assuming it eventually turns off, I've been setting the parking brake. I checked google and lots of people are talking about this issue - I would recommend GM do a recall for this as it's super annoying and potentially a safety issue if the vehicle doesn't know what gear its in.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-05-01
- VIN: 1GNERGKW5NJ
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: Shift to park issue- on a weekly basis shift to park shows up on my vehicle. The only way to fix the issue is reverse multiple times put vehicle in drive and then park hoping the issue will resolve on its own. At times it does not and I have to retry the method on most cases it does resolve after a few minutes but the issue occurs again a few days later. •Vehicle is available for inspection, I have brought my vehicle to the dealership but they won’t fix the issue until I pay for services and I am unable to at this time. •Safety is at risk because If your vehicle is already parked and it still states "shift to park," it could indicate a malfunction in the vehicle's electronic systems also this could potentially lead to unexpected issues, such as the vehicle rolling away if the parking mechanism fails. •This vehicle has been inspected by the dealership during oil changes and they have been made aware of this current issue with the vehicle. •No warring displays besides the notification of shift to park.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-27
- VIN: 1GNEVKKW1NJ
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: I purchased a 2022 Traverse in December 2021 and it just hit 40,000 miles. Now the shift to park error code keeps showing up when placed in park. I have to turn on/off multiple times and try shifting to and from park. It has been consistently erroring out over the last 2 weeks. I believe this is a safety issue due to the fact that it appears it's not going into park. This should absolutely be considered for a safety recall issue on these vehicle, cause my understanding is that this is happening in many Chevrolet Traverses and Acadias. I was given a quote of $275 for repair.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-21
- VIN: 1GNERJKW1NJ

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-07
- VIN: 1GNERGKWXNJ

- Summary: I wish to report GM still has an issue with broken bracket/exhaust defect on the 2022 model, N222385510.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-30
- VIN: 1GNERFKW1NJ
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: I have a 2022 Chevrolet Traverse. OnStar suddenly stopped working in my vehicle. Chevy dealership diagnosed it and said that the telecommunications control module is bad and needs replaced. I haven’t even had this vehicle that long and suddenly the telecommunications control module is bad. This is a safety issue because when traveling and if something were to happen (accident, emergency) I have no access to my OnStar. Also, I am being told that I have to pay for this out of pocket and the part is on back order and will not be here until mid July (I have to wait another month and a half).
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-20
- VIN: 1GNERNKW1NJ
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: Auto developed a rattle and we could not locate the noise. Then we started hearing an exhaust leak and that was leaving carbon deposits on the flex pipe and bracket. Took car to dealership and it was 11,000 out of warranty. The broken pipe and gasket were replaced at my cost. This appears to be a known issue caused by broken or poor weld. GM has a service bulletin for this issue (PIP5681C) but it just covers cars up to year 2021 and not the 2022 year.
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-04-01
- VIN: 1GNERFKW1NJ
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: The front exhaust pipe on my 2022 Chevy Traverse has a defect which mirrors existing NHTSA recalls on 2019-2021 Chevy Traverse models. The bracket that attaches the two singular pipes together rusts out and pulls the bracket away from the pipe, exposing a loud exhaust leak, resulting in loss of power and backpressure to the motor. GM is aware of this problem, and has no available parts to resolve it and has offered no alternative repairs in the absence of parts. This makes my vehicle undriveable. That results in my employer risking my employment because I cannot travel to the office. Because there is no official recall on this, no loaner car can be offered by GM, and no rental car can be covered either. Sands Glendale Chevrolet has inspected this vehicle and has confirmed this "has been happening a lot" and has no solutions for me.
POWER TRAIN,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-03-15
- VIN: 1GNEVJKW6NJ
- Components: POWER TRAIN,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: About 1 week ago, I began getting "Shift To Park" warnings/notifications when I would park the car and turn off the engine. To make it stop, I usually have to turn the car back on, shift to a different gear, shift back to Park, wiggle the gear shift around side to side and back and forth within the Park gear. Sometimes it will have remedied when I attempt to turn the car off the second time, and other times I need to do the same procedure again. In looking it up online, this is a known issue, and an ongoing issue, with GM vehicles over the past several years with no fix or attention to mandate a correction. This seems to effect GM vehicles of multiple models and can allow the vehicle to roll (and my driveway is a small hill on the top of the hill/cul d' sac that we live in). When it fails to recognize the vehicle is in Park, I cannot exit the car, the alerts and chimes continue and would ultimately drain my battery if it failed to recognize that it was in Park. I do have an appointment scheduled for the dealership to check since I am under warranty still. My vehicle only has less than 29,000 miles and is not driven on rough or challenging terrain, with local drives of less than 10 miles generally. Only 1 driver for this vehicle as well.
ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-02-01
- VIN: 1GNERJKW9NJ
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
- Summary: The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, there was a loud rattling sound coming from the exhaust system and exhaust fumes was entering the cabin of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who determined that the exhaust pipes were cracked and had become unsecured and that the entire exhaust system needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was concerned that carbon monoxide could enter the vehicle creating a safety hazard while operating the vehicle. The failure mileage was 50,300.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-09-01
- VIN: 1GNERJKW8NJ
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
- Summary: per the tech at the dealership the noise in my engine is coming from the front exhaust pipe near the hanger it is starting to rust and has made a small hole that is causing the excessive engine noise. gm has a special coverage bulletine for the 2021 traverse (n22238550) this is the same exact thing my 2022 travers is doing. This is so unsafe , you can smell fumes in the vehicle and the car is getting bad mileage and the engine is very loud. The dealer and chevy c/s said there is nothing they can do because the 2022 traverse are not included in the gm special coverage(n22238550). Gm needs to take response ability for the 2022 as well and fix the issue and replace the pipe and the catalytic converter. Hope someone will listen and take this serious and make gm do the right thing for the consumer.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-01-14
- VIN: 1GNEVHKW4NJ
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: The exhaust pipe separated from the mounting bracket resulting in damage to the pipe leading to the manifold. This is a 2 year old vehicle. This issue has been reported in multiple years of Chevrolet Traverses. Chevrolet extended warranties on 2021 Chevrolet Traverses to 150,000 mile for this exact issue but clearly have not fixed the problem for the 2022 Chevrolet Traverse. N222385510 There was no warning of this issue.
POWER TRAIN,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-12-07
- VIN: 1GNERGKW9NJ
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ENGINE
- Summary: Wife was driving my kids to school this am. Driving up a slight hill on a speed limit 55 road vehicle started slowing down and wouldn’t accelerate. Stopped for a traffic light and it very slowly accelerated like a manual transmission stuck in a higher gear. Check engine light went on. I Was able to drive the traverse to the local gmc/Buick dealer which mentioned they were able to download some codes about possible transmission failure - super dangerous and very concerning for a ~1.5 year old vehicle with under 13,000 miles. This could be a major safety issue. Vehicle left at dealer, at this time no confirmed diagnosis but dealer acknowledged there’s a problem.
STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-10-24
- VIN: 1GNEVHKW7NJ
- Components: STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
- Summary: leased vehicle brand new in 4/22 and have had nothing but issues since then.. new radio/navigation (would stay on with car off), torque tube replaced, chip malfunctions, grinding issue with truck steering wheel that pulls at times from this- truck red dash light blinking & truck dead stopping at 60mph on highway. truck has been to service center for months in & out. have been told many times they cannot duplicate the stopping issue so therefore cannot fix it. Electrical codes pulled & are active. The truck is NOT SAFE!! my 2 year old was in it when it dead stopped on the highway.
POWER TRAIN,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-11-04
- Number Of Injuries: 1
- VIN: 1GNERGKW4NJ
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ENGINE
- Summary: The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Traverse. The contact stated that while shifting the transmission into park (P), the vehicle failed to park. The "Shift to Park" message was displayed. Additionally, the vehicle inadvertently and aggressively lunged backward while stopped. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the transmission was replaced and repairs were performed on the exhaust system; however, the failure recurred with the vehicle making an abnormal sound while driving. Additionally, the contact stated that her daughter suffered shortness of breath and dizziness while asleep inside the vehicle, which she later received medical attention for. Upon inspection, the contact noticed there was a leak in the exhaust system. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, and the contact was informed that the exhaust pipe had a leak and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 6,000.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-08-26
- VIN: 1GNERGKWXNJ
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: On multiple occasions the vehicle will not turn off due to the shift to park preventing the engine from turning off. If the operator is in a garage and needs to turn the engine off this will prevent the operator from turning it off and could cause injury or death due to vehicle exhaust. I currently have it at the Chevy dealership for warranty repair but I’m not sure if they will cover it. I'm so glad I chose the 2021 Traverse LT! My family members have a 2019 Highlander XLE and a 2020 Kia Telluride SX, but I needed a 7 seat SUV with captains chairs under $40k, and the Traverse was the only one that fit the bill. While it may not have the same level of refinement as my family's cars, it also didn't come with the same price tag. The engine is powerful and quiet, and the interior is the quietest of the three. The ride is smooth, with only minimal body roll when turning. The rear seats and room are far superior to the other two, with the most comfortable captains chairs and the largest and most accessible rear seat. While the Kia has amazing technology and athleticism, and the Highlander has its own strengths, the Traverse is the best choice for me given the vast difference in price. Overall, I'm very pleased with my decision!
-
I really love my Traverse.
-
I can tell you really love your vehicle! It sounds like it drives smoothly and has some great features, like the three rows and the opening between the second and third rows. Plus, having both front and back backup cameras must be really helpful.
-
Excellent car!
-
This is a great SUV with plenty of room inside, and I love it.

Although I was initially excited about taking delivery of my new 2022 Traverse, I was disappointed with some of its features. The rear view mirror is made of cheap plastic and the rear vision is obstructed by head restraints, rear window wiper housing, and a third row shoulder harness. Additionally, the side mirrors are too small for a vehicle of this size. I also found the dash icons to be too small, making it difficult to distinguish the door ajar icon from an indistinguishable red image of a car or gas pump. Furthermore, the overhead buttons by the rear view mirror are difficult to identify without the use of a hand-held mirror. The absence of a light in the glove box is also a drawback. When I receive a text on my phone, the radio starts blaring first, which can be quite unsettling. The shift handle is too small and awkwardly placed, and the clock icon changes location depending on the mode on the infotainment screen. Lastly, the outside temperature indicator disappears completely, which is also too small. Despite these issues, I remain confident in the overall quality of the vehicle.

I recently purchased a new transverse, hoping to upgrade from my 2017 model. Unfortunately, I was disappointed to find out that the only way to receive text messages is through Android Auto. In my opinion, this product is cheaply made and not worth the money.
Llewellyn Weimann 2024-05-17
Love the space, easy to drive. Since you drove it home, the brakes have been squeaking and now the radio system has shorted out.
Irving Parisian 2024-01-25
This car seems to be having some issues. The windows whistle, the cruise control doesn't always set on the chosen speed, and the remote start only works occasionally. It's definitely frustrating!
