2006 Cadillac Cts problems

cadillac logo

The Cadillac CTS is a luxury car, manufactured and marketed by General Motors from 2003 until 2019 across three generations.

Initially available as a 4-door sedan on the GM Sigma platform, GM had offered the second generation CTS in three body styles: 4-door sedan, 2-door coupe, and 5-door sport wagon also using the Sigma platform — and the third generation was offered only as a sedan, using a stretched version of the GM Alpha platform. High performance sedan variants were offered for each generation, as the CTS-V — with wagon and coupe variants offered for the second generation.

Wayne Cherry and Kip Wasenko designed the exterior of the first generation CTS, marking the production debut of a design language marketed as "Art and Science," first used on the Evoq concept car. John Manoogian III directed the second generation CTS design. Bob Boniface and Robin Krieg designed the exterior of the third generation CTS.

The CTS ended production in 2019 and was replaced by the CT5, which shared its platform with the third and final generation of the CTS in addition to the smaller CT4.

AIR BAGS,SEAT BELTS,ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-10-25
  • VIN: 1G6DM57T160
  • Components: AIR BAGS,SEAT BELTS,ENGINE
  • Summary: Thank these things i feel cadilac should consider fixing due to milage before and after i purchased the cadilac due to the miles before and after purchase. Due to being 100% disabled since 2009, Air bag & safety belt system light comes on when i have onstar diagnose the problem they said it has something to do with my seat belt system on passenger side which mind you isnt used often at all and cadilac will not help with the cost and was told by onstar it needs repairs asap because it could cause air bags to pop out while driving or not come out during a crash. Im afraid some times driving it. In the 7yrs of owning this i maybe put around 40,000 miles on the car its in good condition. Which lead me to the other problem due to miles. When i purchased the cadilac a few days later the check engine light came on it was the catalytic converter it was almost $800 it has two of them the dealer repaired it. Here the other day i had onstar do a complete system scan and the report showed the converter was in the process of going out again but just hasnt triggered my check engine lite. I was shocked because of the miles i drivewhich is under 6000 miles a yr and i use top grade fuel there isnt any way these converters should be going out they should have lasted for the rest of my life and the cars life i take very good care of it changing the oils on a regular bases and other cares are met but when talk to cadilac they didnt even consider my care and miles driven at all or find out why tne converter is needed twice since i owned the car when most cars never need converter replacement. Im 62 yrs old, these are concerns i have but mostly the treatment by cadilac (GM) the safety part being on passenger side that seat never hardly get used but could cause air bags to open while driving and two convertersin 6-7 years of ownership when most cars never need one and othhers just once. Which tells me theres a problem some where else causing it to not work properly, but it didnt matter.

2006 Cadillac Cts recalls

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 6 recalls for different components of the 2006 Cadillac Cts.

2014-09-09
  • Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
  • Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP
  • Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2004-2007 Cadillac CTS-V vehicles manufactured October 6, 2003, to March 15, 2007, and 2006-2007 Cadillac STS-V vehicles manufactured June 23, 2005, to March 15, 2007. In the affected vehicles, the electrical terminals of the fuel pump module may overheat resulting in the melting of the flange material.
  • Consequence: If the flange melts, a hole may be created allowing the fuel pump to leak fuel, causing the vehicle to stall, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash. Additionally, leaking fuel in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.
  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel module and fuel tank jumper harness, free of charge. GM sent out interim notices in late October. The recall began on March 12, 2015. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is 14405.
2014-07-02
  • Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION
  • Summary: This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. General Motors LLC (GM) notified the agency on July 2, 2014 that they are recalling 554,328 model year 2003-2014 Cadillac CTS vehicles manufactured August 16, 2001, to April 28, 2014, and 2004-2006 Cadillac SRX vehicles manufactured March 20, 2003, to August 11, 2006. In these models, the weight on the key ring and/or road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine.
  • Consequence: If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
  • Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will install two key rings and an insert in the key slot or a cover over the key head on all ignition keys, free of charge. The recall began on September 15, 2014. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is 14172.

THIS FLEXING CAN BREAK THE CONNECTIONS IN THE MAT. IF THIS OCCURS, THE SENSOR MAY NOT DETECT THE PRESENCE OF A FRONT SEAT PASSENGER AND WILL DISABLE THE AIR BAG.
  • Consequence: NON-DEPLOYMENT OF THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH NECESSITATING THAT AIR BAG'S DEPLOYMENT MAY REDUCE PROTECTION OF THE PASSENGER AND INCREASE THE RISK OR SEVERITY OF INJURY TO THEM.
  • Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE PASSENGER SENSING SYSTEM FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR ABOUT MARCH 15, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CADILLAC AT 1-866-982-2339, CHEVROLET AT 1-800-630-2438, GMC AT 1-866-996-9463 AND AT THE OWNER CENTER AT WWW.GMOWNERCENTER.COM.

Negative 2006 Cadillac Cts car reviews

  1. Garrick Schuster 2024-11-29

Your CTS handles like a dream and has plenty of power. It's great when in 'sport' mode and you can take corners that are posted 35 mph at 55 mph. You have the 3.6L with the 5-speed auto and it's plenty fast. However, you mentioned two issues. Firstly, the XM radio has static, which is surprising for satellite radio, and apparently all CTS's with the single CD player do too. Secondly, the battery died twice and had to be replaced under warranty, which is unusual for a car with only 7,000 miles on it. I hope the dealer/GM can fix these issues for you soon.

Although I had high hopes for this car, it has unfortunately been the least satisfying vehicle I have owned in many years. The main issue seems to be with the transmission or electronics, as the car frequently shifts to a lower gear without my input. Even when driving downhill, the car struggles to maintain speed. The dealer attempted to explain this away as a feature of European-style transmissions, but I remain unconvinced. Additionally, I have found the information screen controls to be overly complicated and difficult to use. Finally, the gas mileage has been disappointing. Overall, I regret trading in my excellent Grand Prix for this car.

The dashboard on this car could use some improvement. The Deville had a tasteful, curved, flowing dash for the first time ever, but the CTS has weird shapes and cartoonish textures everywhere. The exterior is also marred by the venetian-blind front grille and too-flat bumper. I did have some issues with the car, such as a mileage discrepancy recorded on the title and some needed repairs, but I learned a valuable lesson to always read the Carfax report before signing off. The seats are gorgeous but quite massive, which can rob the rear passengers of legroom. However, they are heated, which is a nice touch. The ride can be a bit choppy, but I found that deflating the tires to 30 psi helped. The car also has a rough idle on regular gas, but it's still manageable on premium. Overall, there are some areas for improvement, but the car has some great features like the factory 2 din Bose Nav Stereo and heated seats. The struts stop the door a few inches from closing, so it must be slammed every time. In my opinion, it may have been a mistake to design it this way. If you have the means, I would recommend purchasing Generation two. Although you may still have concerns about engine, transmission, and driveline failure, the interior design is improved in this generation.

I bought this car for my daughter with 100,000 miles on it, hoping it would last another 100,000 miles. It was a beautiful car and driving it with the 3.6L engine was a lot of fun. Unfortunately, we started experiencing some problems. The radiator failed and mixed engine coolant with transmission fluid, which was a nightmare to flush out. A year later, the transmission failed and we had to replace it for almost the cost of the car. To make matters worse, the engine now has some serious internal mechanical damage that will probably render it useless. The electronic brake control was always intermittent and it burns oil. It has been quite a money pit and the reliability has been disappointing. Needless to say, I won't be buying another Cadillac.

I have experienced multiple issues with my Cadillac, including problems with the rear end, computer, electrical system, and fuel pump. Unfortunately, my last experience was particularly frustrating as I was left stranded due to a fuel sensor issue. Despite my attempts to escalate the issue to a higher authority, I have been unable to find a resolution. This lack of support from Cadillac has left me feeling disappointed and disillusioned. As a result, I have decided that I will not be purchasing another Cadillac in the future.

I leased this car after trading in my 2000 Eldorado with low mileage. The Eldorado was not Cadillac certified and the repair bills were getting costly. The dealership certified my car, but marked it up extensively. In hindsight, I should have kept my Eldorado! The CTS was great for the first 7,000 miles, but then I experienced a scary moment when rounding a corner on a rainy day. The car almost spun out of control and left long, black tire marks on the road. The right rear tire seemed to lock up. Thankfully, I was able to regain control of the car and continue on my way. At 10,400 miles, I took the car in for an oil change and to address a noise in the back end. The service technician informed me that I needed to replace the tires.

I love everything about my Cadillac CTS! Although, it would be even better if it were a little roomier and if the passenger seat was automatic instead of manual. But, other than those small annoyances, the car is perfect and I absolutely love it!

This is my first ever owned luxury car and, while I had high expectations for the base model CTS, I have to admit that I am somewhat disappointed. The 2.8L v6 engine is a bit underpowered and the gas mileage is not great (I average about 16.5 MPG city with conservative driving). However, I have not experienced any issues with the car and I find it comfortable to drive. Additionally, I really appreciate the exterior design and the fact that driving a Cadillac garners a lot of respect.

You've got yourself an amazing car, especially for someone who's only 24! It's so much fun to drive, handles like a dream, and rides so smoothly that it feels like you're floating on air. Everywhere you go, heads are turning because of its sleek and aggressive look. The interior is flawless, with everything easily accessible and still spacious enough to feel roomy. The 2.8 V6 is very impressive, and sometimes it's hard to believe that there are only 210 horses under the hood.

This car is amazing to drive! I already knew it was a great car, but I had no idea how thrilling the experience could be to drive a 'near' sports car for that amount of money. I've owned a Cadillac DeVille before (1992), but there's no comparison between the two vehicles. I also own an SUV (from another brand) and I'm delighted with how comfortable the CTS is. I've finally found a car that's more nimble and more fun to drive and ride in than a BMW (which I still own but will be getting rid of) or my friends' Mercedes. Before deciding to buy the CTS, I test drove the Toyota Avalon. My advice: Drive a CTS before buying the Avalon; the handling will convince you - plus the CTS has style and character.
