2014 Honda Civic hybrid problems
The Honda Civic (Japanese: ホンダ・シビック, Hepburn: Honda Shibikku) is a series of automobiles manufactured by Honda since 1972. As of 2023, the Civic is positioned between the Honda Fit/City and Honda Accord in Honda's global car line-up.
The first-generation Civic was introduced in July 1972 as a two-door fastback sedan, followed by a three-door hatchback that September. With a 1,169 cc transverse engine and front-wheel drive like the British Mini, the car provided good interior space despite overall small dimensions. Initially gaining a reputation for being fuel-efficient, reliable and environmentally friendly, later iterations have become known for performance and sportiness, especially the Civic Type R, Civic VTi, Civic GTi and Civic SiR/Si.
The Civic has been repeatedly rebadged for international markets, and served as the basis for the Honda CR-X, the Honda CR-X del Sol, the Concerto, the first generation Prelude, the Civic Shuttle (later to become the Orthia) and the CR-V (which, by extension, was used as the basis for the Honda FR-V).
The Civic is one of the all-time best-selling automobiles in the world, with over 27 million units sold since 1972 as of 2021.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-01-01
- VIN: 2HGFB2F87EH
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
- Summary: The issue with the engine start/stop button in Honda cars is a concerning matter that has drawn attention due to its potential safety implications and inconvenience for drivers. Reports have surfaced indicating that some Honda vehicles equipped with this feature may experience intermittent or complete failure of the engine start/stop button to function as intended. One notable manifestation of this problem is the inability to start the engine despite repeated attempts to press the start/stop button. In some cases, the button may become unresponsive altogether, leaving drivers stranded and unable to operate their vehicles. This malfunction poses not only a significant inconvenience but also a safety risk, particularly in emergency situations where the ability to start the engine promptly is crucial. The root cause of this issue is not always clear, as it may stem from various factors such as electrical failures, software glitches, or mechanical defects within the start/stop button mechanism itself. Regardless of the underlying cause, the consequence remains the same—an unpredictable and unreliable operation of a fundamental component in the vehicle's ignition system. For Honda owners experiencing this problem, it can lead to frustration and concern about the reliability of their vehicles, especially if the issue persists despite attempts to rectify it through repairs or maintenance. Additionally, there may be associated costs involved in diagnosing and fixing the malfunction, adding further inconvenience and financial strain to affected individuals.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-03-30
- VIN: 19XFB2F8XEE
- Components: POWER TRAIN

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and diagnosed with a transmission failure. The independent mechanic stated that while test-driving the vehicle, the vehicle stopped, and was towed back to the mechanic shop. The vehicle was then towed to the residence where another independent mechanic diagnosed the vehicle with the same failure. The contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V574000 (Power Train); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The dealer was contacted and confirmed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-03-04
- VIN: 19XFB2F82EE
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: The transmission suddenly started slipping and wasnt pulling reliably while I was on the highway in the middle of St. Louis, MO with heavy, fast traffic. There were no warning lights or signs to alert me that something was wrong before this happened. I immediately pulled off the highway, but struggled to change lanes in heavy traffic with very little pull from the transmission. I was forced to cut in front of people that were moving faster than me in order to get out of the way. Once I got off the highway, I immediately stopped to check under the hood. The fill plug for the transmission was off, and was laying next to the fill hole. I had to have it towed, and the shop told me that the vent plug on top of the transmission was clogged. They believe that this is the cause for the excessive pressure buildup which caused the plug to come out. They also said that a sensor on the bottom of my transmission started leaking oil due to the pressure. The sensor was not damaged in any way, but the oil leaking out caused damage to my transmission. The shop informed me that my transmission was low on cvt oil when they drained it, but didn't see any concerning signs in the oil. They refilled it hoping that it would fix the problem. After testing, they informed me that too much damage was caused to the transmission, and I would need a new one. Honda told me that the transmission was out of warranty both by miles (85,000) and year (2014). I had the car towed to another shop closer to home, and they put a new transmission in. I have had the new transmission for less than a week, and the fill cap has already popped off again. The vent does not look clogged this time, but I'm worried that dust or grit could have gotten in or that I may have lost a significant amount of cvt oil. I have to have it towed to the shop again to check my cvt oil level and make sure it's safe to drive.
AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-03-03
- VIN: 2HGFB6E57EH
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: Air bag light came on like 1 year ago. I had the dealership do the diagnostic on the car. They said it was cable relay. They said estimate to repair was over $2000. I have contacted Honda Goodwill department and after several emails and phone calls they gave me an option to pay $100 and they cover the rest. I have agreed. They have replaced cable relay and everything was fine. About a month later the airbag light came back on. I went to the dealership for diagnostics and they said that its the driver side airbag that is defective and that they recommended it to be replaced. Cost with labor $1100. I wrote to Honda Goodwill again but the said they only did a one time courtesy and that i am responsible for the future expenses. The car has never been in an accident and its not my fault that there is an airbag issue. Im afraid of my and my family’s safety when i drive the car. Please help.

STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-11-05
- Number Of Injuries: 3
- Crash: 1
- VIN: 19XFB2F5XEE
- Components: STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: I was approaching a green light, and engaged the brakes to slow down. As I approached the light reaching approximate 10MPH. The car shuddered, and the alternator must have glitched again. The wheel cranked itself back and forth, causing the car to spin and turn into oncoming traffic. This issue has been recalled for this vehicle but not this VIN. I have notified 3 Honda repair shops of this issue, and have been turned away. The problem is with the electromagnet in the electric steering column. It is well documented, and I have video of several instances of thi issue occurring. Additional witnesses of the problem are available. And the incident itself resulting in property damage and bodily harm. Honda was made aware of this problem on multiple occasions, and did nothing to remedy the problem.
STEERING,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-08-02
- VIN: 2HGFB2F80EH
- Components: STEERING,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Honda Civic 2014 - The right CV axle (drive shaft) was corroded and detached causing the vehicle to become immovable while in traffic. Fortunately, we were near a stop light and traffic was going slow and able to go around the vehicle without causing a crash. The vehicle had to be towed. This same issue is already a recall for the Honda Accord 2013-2015. We had this same thing happen to our 2013 Honda Accord at a major traffic intersection. Again, the vehicle had to be towed and repaired. The remaining side was replaced via Honda recall. We are asking that there be a mandatory recall of this issue for the 2014 Honda Civic as it is a safety risk. We are just lucky that both of these incidents occurred while near stop lights and no one was injured. However, there is one side remaining on our Civic that needs replaced and hopefully the recall will be issued before the car breaks down and causes a crash and possible deathly injury. We contacted Honda and they said we can take the car in for a diagnostic inspection at a personal cost to us of $100-$500 depending on the dealer. This is unacceptable.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-10-13
- VIN: 19XFB2F53EE

I took it to the dealership and they said it's the transmission that needs to be replaced. Apparently this is a common. problem and should be a recall.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-09-26
- VIN: 2HGFB2F54EH
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: The contact's daughter owns a 2014 Honda Civic. The contact stated while her daughter was driving 25 MPH, she heard an abnormally loud sound coming from underneath the vehicle, and the vehicle lost motive power. The contact's daughter was able to roll to the side of the road. The vehicle was then pushed to the driveway of the residence. The contact stated that she then noticed fluid, broken parts, and bolts on the ground, at the site of the failure. The contact stated that the vehicle was able to be restarted but failed to respond upon shifting into drive(D). The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle could not be repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V574000 (Power Train) because the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-08-30
- VIN: 2HGFG3B54EH
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: On August 30, while driving the power steering warning activated and the steering wheel become extremely hard to move. Stopped the car and followed the troubleshoot procedure; however, the failure persisted and had to request a tow truck. When the tow truck showed up several hours later, the steering operated normally and warning lights were gone. The car was towed to the Honda dealership Klein Honda 10611 Evergreen Way south, Everett, WA 98204. As the car was offloaded the tow truck, the steering operated normally and without any warnings. After few minutes at the dealership, I started the car and got the steering warning and the steering was extremely hard to move. The next day I got a call from the dealer and was told that the Electric Power Steering module was filled with water and was completely burned. The Service Manager provided the DTC fault codes 33-01 and 33-06. The dealership brought an expert to trace the water source on Friday Sept 8. The water expert investigated the water leak source. The water leak was caused by deteriorating insulation material on the right-hand side of the car and ended up in the Electric Power Steering module, causing the loss of steering. This raises significant concerns as a customer and as a person sharing the road with other Honda cars for the following facts: The car has low miles, less than 78000, The car is 9 years old, The car has been in mild climate/weather, Honda does not require inspection/removal and replacement of such components, There have been a significant number of events like this for this model. I'd like to request your department to open an investigation to this matter. This potentially impacts any vehicle sharing the road with Honda. In simple terms: Loss of steering = Loss of lives. Due to pure luck this did not ended in a fatal accident. 1/2 down the road it would have! Attached are pictures from the determination of the expert on how the water entered into the Electric Power Steering module.

The radiator and front collision bar are very bent in, however my airbags did not deploy. The truck was going 60 mph when it hit me hard enough to cause another 3 cars to have damage. This is a potential issue for others and currently I have very bad neck and head pain from the accident. My car had a warning screen saying “check airbag system” after the accident.
