Common 2004 Infiniti I30 problems
The Infiniti I30, produced from 1995 to 2004, is a mid-size car that shares its platform with the Nissan Cefiro. This car was available with V6 engines, with the first generation using the VQ30DE engine and the second generation using the VQ30DEK and VQ35DE engines. While the Infiniti I30 is generally considered a reliable vehicle, there are some common problems that owners have reported.
One of the most common problems reported by Infiniti I30 owners is issues with the airbags. There have been several recalls related to airbags, with the largest recall affecting over 1 million vehicles in 2002. The airbag issues have been related to both the passenger-side and driver-side airbags, with some vehicles experiencing failures that can increase the risk of injury in the event of a crash.
Another common problem reported by Infiniti I30 owners is issues with the electrical system. There have been several recalls related to electrical problems, including issues with the wiring harness, ignition switch, and fuel pump. These issues can cause a variety of problems, including difficulty starting the car, stalling, and reduced performance.
Suspension issues have also been reported by some Infiniti I30 owners. These problems have been related to the front suspension, with some vehicles experiencing excessive wear and tear that can lead to reduced handling and stability.
Lighting issues have also been reported by some Infiniti I30 owners. These problems have been related to both the headlights and taillights, with some vehicles experiencing issues with the bulbs and wiring that can lead to reduced visibility and safety.
In terms of engine problems, some Infiniti I30 owners have reported issues with the VQ30DE engine, including problems with the timing chain and oil pump. These issues can lead to reduced performance, increased fuel consumption, and reduced reliability.
In terms of fuel economy, the Infiniti I30 is generally considered to be a fuel-efficient vehicle, with some models achieving up to 28 miles per gallon on the highway. However, some owners have reported issues with fuel economy, particularly in older models.
In terms of power, the Infiniti I30 is generally considered to be a relatively low-powered vehicle, with some models producing as little as 190 horsepower. However, the VQ35DE engine used in later models is more powerful, producing up to 255 horsepower.
In terms of maintenance, the Infiniti I30 requires regular oil changes and other routine maintenance to maintain its reliability and performance. The recommended oil type and change interval will depend on the specific engine and model year of the vehicle.
In summary, the Infiniti I30 is generally considered to be a reliable and fuel-efficient vehicle, but there are some common problems that owners have reported. These problems include issues with the airbags, electrical system, suspension, lighting, and engine. To maintain the reliability and performance of the vehicle, it is important to follow the recommended maintenance schedule and address any issues promptly.

- Manufacturer: Nissan North America, Inc.
- Components: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:PASSENGER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
- Summary: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2001-2003 Maxima, 2002-2006 Sentra, 2002-2004 Pathfinder, 2007-2011 Versa Sedan and Versa Hatchback, 2001-2004 Infiniti I30 and I35, 2002-2003 Inifiniti QX4, 2003-2008 Infiniti FX35 and FX45 and 2006-2010 M35 and M45 vehicles. The vehicles are equipped with non-desiccated, frontal passenger air bag inflators containing phase stabilized ammonium nitrate (PSAN) propellant that were used as interim remedy parts for previous Takata recalls. These inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.
- Consequence: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front passenger air bag inflators with alternate desiccated inflators, free of charge. The recall began February 12, 2020. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 888-737-9511 or Infiniti customer service at 888-810-3715.
