- Summary: In the last 2 months I have had the front passenger tire blow out 3 times. After this last tire repair the car started to shake, vibrate and make a knocking noise while driving. When driving faster the steering wheel would jerk me almost offthe road. It was so bad I pulled over and when I looked at the front passenger tire it was smoking and sitting sideways. I had to get my vehicle towed and now I have no way to work. I have included an estimate of the repairs as well as a written warranty that was given to the previous owner. I was told this was no longer valid since I am not the original owner of the vehicle. The way the steering jerked and how the tire went sideways I feel that is a safety issue.

- Summary: TL* TAKATA AIR BAG RECALL. THE CONTACT'S HUSBAND OWNED A 2001 INFINITI I30. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HER DAUGHTER WAS IN LINE AT A DRIVE THRU, A SMELL EMITTED THROUGHOUT THE VEHICLE WITHOUT WARNING. - Summary: I WAS DRIVING THE CAR THE ENGINE WAS WARM AND RUNNING JUST FINE. THEN OUT OF NO WHERE THE CAR AT 40 MPH ENGINE BEGIN WILDLY REVVING THE RPMS WENT DIRECTLY HOME AND IN PARK IT WAS DOING THE SAME THING. TURNED IT OFF CALLED A TOW TRUCK HAD IT TOWED IN TO LOCAL SHOP. A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON SHOWING A P0505 CODE. THE SHOP REPLACED THE IACM AND THEN THE ECU AT A COST OF OVER CAR WAS RETURNED SAME CODE AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON THE MECHANIC SAID IT WOULD NOT RELEARN IDLE AND TO DRIVE IT AROUND AND SEE IF THAT WOULD HELP. I AM AN ELDERLY WOMAN AND I SPEND THE NEXT FEW DAYS RIDING THE BRAKE TO KEEP THE CAR IN CONTROL. IDLE WAS RUNNING HIGH IN PARK AND DRIVE. I WAS BECOMING AFRAID OF THE CAR AND DECIDED TO TAKE IT TO THE INFINITI DEALER FOR REPAIRS. WITH SAME P0505 CODE AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND IN LESS THEN SEVEN DAYS THE IACM AND ECU ONCE AGAIN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THAT'S BECAUSE THE MOTOR MOUNTS FAILED AND SINCE THEY ARE FLUID FILLED THEY LEAKED CAUSING THE OTHER PARTS TO SHORT OUT. THE INFINITI DEALER SAID THE THREE PARTS ARE ALL ON THE SAME CIRCUIT BUT THIS IS ONLY KNOWN TO INFINITI MECHANICS. THE REPAIR IS NOW OVER $3000.00 PUS THE FIRST CHARGE. THIS IS WAY MORE THEN MY CAR VALUE. I RESEARCHED THIS CONDITION ON THE INTERNET. KIDS HAVE BEEN DRIVING THESE CARS WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURS AT 80 MPH WITH BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE. I NEVER WRITE ANYTHING ON THE INTERNET BUT I AM CONCERNED THIS IS GOING TO CAUSE A CRASH AND SOMEONE MAY BE SERIOUSLY HURT. CAR HAS 110000. MILES I WILL PAY FOR THE REPAIRS OUT OF POCKET BUT I THINK THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL.

- Summary: CAR HAS DEVELOPED ISSUES STARTING AND MAINTAINING SMOOTH IDLE ONCE STARTED. INITIALLY, A MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THE ISSUES AS THE IDLE CONTROL VALVE. IT WAS CHANGED AT A COST OF $800. THIS DID NOT ALLEVIATE THE ISSUE. AFTER FURTHER TESTS, THEY DETERMINED IT WAS THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM). THIS HAD TO BE CHANGED BY AN INFINITI DEALERSHIP. WHEN I WENT TO THE DEALER, THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE THROTTLE CONTROL BODY AND WOULD COST $1300 TO REPAIR AND FIX THE PROBLEM. I INQUIRED IF THIS MEANT THE ECM WOULD NEED REPLACEMENT AND THEY SAID IT WOULDN'T. AFTER REPLACING THE THROTTLE CONTROL BODY, THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE MOTOR MOUNTS NEEDED TO BE CHANGED SINCE IT INTERACTS WITH THE THROTTLE CONTROL BODY AND ECM AND THE IDLE CONTROL VALVE TO MAKE IT ALL WORK PROPERLY. THIS WOULD COST AN ADDITIONAL $3900. AT THIS POINT, SINCE THE CAR'S BLUE BOOK VALUE IS LESS THAN $3000, IT NO LONGER MADE SENSE TO MAKE THE REPAIR BUT I DID HAVE TO PAY THE $1300 TO COVER THE COST OF THE REPLACED THROTTLE CONTROL BODY. MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT THIS IS A WELL-KNOWN ISSUE TO INFINITI (AND NISSAN) AND THEY KNOW THE EXACT STEPS REQUIRED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. MY COMPLAIN IS THAT THEY DO NOT DISCLOSE THE FULL SPECTRUM AND COSTS OF THE REPAIR UNTIL AFTER THEY'VE HAD YOU PERFORM AT LEAST ONE OF THE THREE OR FOUR REPAIRS "NECESSARY TO UNCOVER THE FULL EXTENT OF THE PROBLEM" THEREBY ENSURING THEY GET PAID AT LEAST $1000 OR MORE JUST TO GET YOU ON THE HOOK FOR A LARGER BILL LATER. THIS IS ESSENTIALLY A BAIT-AND-SWITCH SERVICE SCAM AND I'M HOPING THE NHTSA TAKES THE MANUFACTURER TO TASK ON THIS AND ISSUES AN IMMEDIATE RECALL RELATED TO THIS SERIOUS ENGINEERING/DESIGN FLAW THAT REQUIRES SUBSTANTIAL COSTS TO THE CONSUMER TO REPAIR A KNOWN DEFECT IN THE VEHICLE.

THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE LOWER CONTROL ARMS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, WHICH CAUSED THE TIRES TO BLOW OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS MADE AWARE OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 02V146000 (SUSPENSION); HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING AT ANY SPEED, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER AND THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL CLICKING SOUND HEARD FROM THE STEERING WHEEL. THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL HAD A SHORT WHICH MADE IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR THE CONTACT TO SEE THE GAUGES WHILE DRIVING. THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO SEE THE SERVICE ENGINE SENSOR AND BRAKE LIGHT SENSOR ILLUMINATE INTERMITTENTLY. THE RADIO AND CLOCK HAD NOT WORKED FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ECL COMPUTER HAD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 02V146000 (SUSPENSION) AND HAD EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 3 recalls for different components of the 2001 Infiniti I30.

- Summary: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2001-2003 Maxima, 2002-2006 Sentra, 2002-2004 Pathfinder, 2007-2011 Versa Sedan and Versa Hatchback, 2001-2004 Infiniti I30 and I35, 2002-2003 Inifiniti QX4, 2003-2008 Infiniti FX35 and FX45 and 2006-2010 M35 and M45 vehicles. The vehicles are equipped with non-desiccated, frontal passenger air bag inflators containing phase stabilized ammonium nitrate (PSAN) propellant that were used as interim remedy parts for previous Takata recalls. These inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.
- Consequence: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front passenger air bag inflators with alternate desiccated inflators, free of charge. The recall began February 12, 2020. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 888-737-9511 or Infiniti customer service at 888-810-3715.

- Summary: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain model year 2001-2003 Nissan Maxima, 2002-2004 Pathfinder, 2002-2006 Sentra, 2002-2003 Infiniti QX4 and I35, 2003 FX35 and FX45, and 2001 I30 vehicles. Upon deployment of the passenger side frontal air bag, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to rupture.
- Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants potentially resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will replace the passenger air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began on June 15, 2015. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261. Note: On December 18, 2015 Nissan informed NHTSA of an amendment of this recall to remove 2004-2005 Infiniti FX35 and FX45 vehicles.

- Summary: ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE PIN AT THE END OF THE FRONT SUSPENSION TRANSVERSE LINK (LOWER CONTROL ARM) COULD BREAK WHERE IT IS MOUNTED TO THE FRAME.
- Consequence: THIS CAN CAUSE A KNOCKING SOUND AND ABNORMAL STEERING. THIS COULD RESULT IN DIFFICULTY CONTROLLING THE VEHICLE AND INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE TRANSVERSE LINKS ON THE LEFT AND RIGHT SIDES WITH NEW ONES. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN JULY 29, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261 OR INFINITI AT 1-800-662-6200.

We looked at Audi, Volvo, and VW Passat, but the Infiniti was the clear winner, even though we had a bit of a rough time with the sales experience. The 60,000 mile warranty was a huge plus, and we haven't had any issues with the car, except for the time it decided to hit a concrete pole at the car wash. Just a heads up, the fog lamps can be quite expensive.

I'm so glad to hear that you were able to find a great deal on your I30 at the dealership with only 65000 miles! It sounds like the dealership took great care of the car by replacing the O2 sensors at 60000 miles. Since purchasing the car, you've put an additional 8000 miles on it and it's still running great! It's wonderful to hear that you're averaging 27-28 mpg while cruising at 70 MPH. You've even upgraded the tires to 225 x 65 x 16 (Regatta 2s) at 35 PSI and the ride is super smooth. It's great to hear that you're planning on keeping this car for a long time and that it's performing so well. Thank you for sharing your experience and I hope you continue to enjoy your I30!

Welcome back to the I30! It's great to hear that even after almost 3 years of being garaged, it still looks fresh. Although the paint may have seen better days, the car still cruises effortlessly on European highways with cruise control set at nearly 100mph. The midrange power is excellent, although fuel economy may be a bit of a trade-off. The suspension is tuned for comfort, making it a smooth ride, but it can get a bit unsettled during small-radius backroad turns. After 60,000 miles, the only issue has been with the O2 sensor, but otherwise, it has been trouble-free. I'm sure you'll be able to enjoy this car for at least another 5 years. The Bose radio is a great feature, although the rear parcel shelf mounted subwoofer can become boomy. Overall, this car is a great value and a great choice.

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share my experience with this car. I bought it 3 and a half years ago with only 14k miles on it, and I've only had to do routine maintenance since then. Thanks to regular maintenance, it has great fuel economy. Even with 94,000 miles on it, the car still runs like it's brand new! It's amazing how it drives like a sports car while still comfortably seating 4 adults. I highly recommend it!

I noticed that many of you rated the 2001 I30 a 10. However, as an owner of one myself, I have to disagree. After just a 45-minute drive, my behind is killing me and there is too much wind noise. Maybe some of you upgraded from a Cavalier! :)

I purchased the car in 2005 from Team Nissan in Oxnard, CA. Unfortunately, they did not inform me that the car had been in an accident, which caused some issues such as the hood not having a VIN. Over the course of four years, I put 80k miles on it, but it was not running for 18 months of that time. I had to replace several parts including the wheel bearings, two alternators, VSS sensor, starter, ignition, and radiator. While the car performs well when you punch it, it feels quite heavy otherwise. Compared to the '05 Altima V6, this car falls short in terms of quickness both offline and during driving, despite having only 23 more horsepower. I do like the exterior and interior, but the leather seats are cracking, the clock wand rattles, there is wind noise from the back window, and the paint is fading horribly. I had always wanted an Infiniti, but unfortunately, this car became a financial burden after only a year. I am disappointed with Team Infiniti, but I hope that they can improve their customer service in the future.

I am disappointed with the performance of this car. Despite having only 53,000 miles, I have had to replace several parts including the driver automatic seat, oxygen sensor, muffler, brakes (front and rear pads and rotors), and all 4 tires. As a luxury car, I expected better durability and reliability.

The car has been driven for 1 year, covering a distance of 130,000km since its purchase at 117,000km. Although the alternator had to be replaced, the car performs well when floored. However, during normal throttle, the car feels heavy and big, and the turning circle is quite large. The fuel economy is not great, and while regular fuel can be used, premium fuel is recommended. On the bright side, the car is excellent for highway cruising, and it boasts a long list of options. The trunk and interior spaces are both huge, but the material quality is not up to par with Acura/Lexus. Unfortunately, it lacks the MIST wiper operation that sweeps only once, a feature even the Civic has. Instead, the wiper needs to be turned on and off for occasional wiper sweeps. The standard HID is good, but it could use more brightness.
