The Ram pickup (marketed as the Dodge Ram until 2010) is a full-size pickup truck manufactured by Stellantis North America (formerly Chrysler Group LLC and FCA US LLC) and marketed from 2010 onwards under the Ram Trucks brand. The current fifth-generation Ram debuted at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan, in January of that year.

Previously, Ram was part of the Dodge line of light trucks. The name Ram was first used in 1981 model year Dodge Trucks in October 1980, following the retiring and rebadging of the Dodge D series pickup trucks as well as B-series vans, though the company had used a ram's-head hood ornament on some trucks as early as 1933.

Ram trucks have been named Motor Trend magazine's Truck of the Year eight times; the second-generation Ram won the award in 1994, the third-generation Ram heavy-duty won the award in 2003, the fourth-generation Ram Heavy Duty won in 2010 and the fourth-generation Ram 1500 won in 2013 and 2014, and the current fifth-generation Ram pickup became the first truck in history to win the award three times, winning in 2019, 2020, and 2021.

How many miles will a 2011 Ram 2500 last?

On average, a Ram 2500 is expected to last between 230,000 to 250,000 miles, which is around 15 years of service.

What is the best year for Ram 2500?

The RAM 2500 is famed for dependability and longevity, especially in the 2006 model year and later.

What are the bad years for the 6.7 Cummins?

We recommend staying away from the 1991, 1992, 1993, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2011 models. Many issues stem from these years. A few of the common appear in the format of transmission failure, charging system troubles, and electrical issues. These can be costly to handle and inconvenient for any driver.

Which Ram 2500 engine is the best?

The Ram 2500 is available with two engine options - one gas and one turbo diesel. Overall, the gas HEMI engine provides the best gas horsepower among 250/2500 pickups - and more payload capacity than the Cummins - but the turbo diesel outperforms it with mountains of torque and more maximum towing capacity.

STEERING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-03-22
  • VIN: 3D7UT2CL7BG
  • Components: STEERING
  • Summary: Yesterday, 3/22/2024, I was driving northbound on I-15, fat left lane, approx. 80 mph/posted highway speed. Suddenly lost steering control on my 2011 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins diesel truck. Front end/tires began vibrating, all steering control lost, truck veered to the right across 3 lanes of traffic and off into the dirt/sage brush to the right of the highway. It almost rolled over, but I was able to slow it to a stop. My dogs & I could have been killed. I turned the truck off for a few minutes, then re-started the ignition. Was mid-trip with no other transportation option, so I drove the rest of the way at much slower speeds, was able to get the truck to our home. I am still shaken from what could have happened to me and our family. I have dash cam video of this incident.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-09-09
  • VIN: 3d7tt2ct8bg
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: Some electrical components became inoperative in the quick minute. Fuel pump was running continuedly till the battery was drained. Mechanic, I had used before told me that the TIPM Module was defective and needed replaced. Truck just before the battery died was that not all Eletronic's were working. Interior lights, horn, cruise control, FOBs not responding to the vehicle. Mechanic stated that the TPIM did need to be replaced. Contacted dealership were purchased and they told me that there have been recalls out on this particular part. I know that from 2009 to 2017 there have been several models that were impacted by this part being defective. I do have the invoice from the mechanic that took care of replacing the TIPM module.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-12-01
  • VIN: 3D7TT2CT6BG
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: Driving on the highway doing about 100km per hour and the truck shut off. No noise or anything it just died, no steering etc. luckily I was able to slow down and safely get to the side of the road. Put in park and it started up again fine. A few weeks later the same thing happened while drive 60km per hour. I took it home and appears the key is able to shake loose while in the run position; if you hit a bump etc it’s enough to cause the truck to shut off. I brought it to the dealer and told them and they knew exactly what the issue was; have to replace the ignition and get new keys- approximately a $1000 repair im told. They also said they do 4-5 of these repairs a week. I asked if it’s a recall item and they said no. I was shocked as it was very frightening when the truck shut off on the highway and not having full control of the vehicle. It was dangerous and I have not driven the truck since; have been 5 weeks waiting on the new ignition to come in. I also have a 2012 dodge 3500 diesel and it did the same thing this week. While driving it shut off. So I have 2 of these truck with the same issue; I’m told it’s a common issue with the trucks, but it’s not a recall? Seems like a huge safety concern to me. If I had been involved in an accident due to this issue I’m Sure we would be looking at a whole other issue.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2020-09-07
  • VIN: 3D7UT2CL5BG
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE ON A CITY STREET, HIGHWAY, AND OFF ROAD; ON BOTH A ROUGH PAVED ROADS AND WHILE RUNNING OVER BUMPS IN THE ROAD, THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER (ENGINE AND ALL POWERED ACCESSORIES) AFFECTING THE VEHICLE'S ENGINE, POWER STEERING AND BRAKING. FORTUNATELY, NO ACCIDENTS OR OTHER EVENTS HAVE OCCURRED WHEN I WAS OPERATING THE VEHICLE DURING THIS SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS POWERLESS, IN MOTION, THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE PLACED INTO NEUTRAL AND THE ENGINE RESTARTED BEFORE REGAINING ENGINE AND ACCESSORY POWER. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST OCCURRENCE AND HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES SINCE PURCHASING THE VEHICLE USED IN 2015. I HAVE REPLICATED THE LOSS OF ENGINE POWER WHILE PARKED WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING: BY SLIGHTLY MOVING THE VEHICLE'S IGNITION KEY FOB WHILE ATTACHED TO THE WIRELESS IGNITION NODE (WIN) MODULE, THIS CAUSED THE VEHICLE'S ENGINE AND ACCESSORIES TO SHUTOFF. WHILE RESEARCHING A SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM, I FOUND NUMEROUS COMMENTS ON VEHICLE FORUMS AND CHATROOMS, AS WELL AS IN YOUTUBE VIDEOS RELATING TO ISSUES PROBLEMS WITH DEFECTIVE WINS THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THE VEHICLE BE REPROGRAMMED. IN MY OPINION, MOPAR HAS KNOWN, OR SHOULD HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THE ISSUES WITH THE WIN AND THE VEHICLE'S SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. LOSS OF POWER EVENTS LIKE I AND OTHERS HAVE EXPERIENCE HAS THE POTENTIAL FOR CAUSING A SERIOUS ACCIDENT RESULTING IN DEATH OF SERIOUS BODILY INJURY.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2020-07-22
  • VIN: 3D7TT2CT1BG
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: THERE ARE TWO ISSUES AT HAND HERE. ONE IS THE FUEL PUMP FUSE/RELAY. IT WENT OUT BUT CANT BE FIXED WITHOUT REPLACING THE ENTIRE FUSE BOX AS IT IS INTERNALLY WITHIN FUSE BOX. I DID A BYPASS AND REPLACED FUEL PUMP, BUT I STILL HAVE CODES RELATED TO FUEL SYSTEM HAVING A LEAK. WHEN THIS ISSUE HAPPENED, MY WIFE WAS LEFT STRANDED AS THE TRUCK WOULDN'T TURN ON. ALSO, ON A DIFFERENT NOTE, I NOTICED MY TRAILER BRAKE LIGHT COMING ON SAYING IT IS DISABLE AND FLASHES ON AND OFF AS I AM DRIVING. NOT SURE IF THIS IS RELATED TO THE ELECTRICAL ASPECT OF IT. THE OTHER WAS ON ENGINE. I HAVE A 2011 RAM 2500 5.7 4X4. IT STARTED WITH HAVING A CYLINDER 1 MISFIRE. I REPLACED SPARK PLUGS AND COILS. STILL HAD ISSUE AND AFTER SOME RESEARCH, I FOUND OUT THAT THE VALVE STEM/SPRING IN ENGINE HEAD BREAK AND CAUSE THE LIFTERS AND CAMSHAFT TO RUB AND RELEASE METAL SHAVINGS THROUGH OUT ENGINE. WHILE THIS WAS MESSED UP, I WOULD NOTICE THE TRUCK WOULD SHAKE VERY HARD AS I APPROACHED A CERTAIN SPEED LIMIT. I TOOK TRUCK TO DODGE DEALERSHIP TO VERIFY RESEARCH AND IT WAS CONFIRMED. I WAS TOLD I NEEDED A NEW ENGINE. SO I REPLACED ENGINE. TOTAL BILL WAS OVER 7500 FOR PARTS AND LABOR.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2018-06-15
  • VIN: 3D7UT2CL8BG
  • Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: WHEN THE VEHICLE'S ENGINE IS RUNNING, IF THE FREQUENCY OPERATED BUTTON IGNITION KEY (FOBIK) IS MOVED IN ANY SLIGHT MOVEMENT, THE ENGINE WILL IMMEDIATELY SHUT OFF. IT APPEARS THE FIX IS TO REPLACE THE WIRELESS IGNITION NODE (WIN) MODULE, SIMILAR TO OTHER SAFETY RECALLS ISSUED FOR OTHER DODGE/CHRYSLER MODELS. THE VEHICLE WILL SHUT OFF EVERY DAY NOW AND HAS EVEN SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE. WE HAD TO TRY TO SAFELY PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE AND RESTART THE VEHICLE.

  • Summary: WHEN WE GOT HOME LAST NITE I SAW SMOKE COMING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD AND I COULD SMELL SOMETHING BURNING LIKE ELECTRICAL. I OPENED THE HOOD AND THE ALTERNATOR WAS POURING OUT SMOKE. I GRABBED MY HOSE AND POURED WATER ON IT UNTIL I COULD DISCONNECT THE BATTERIES. UPON RESEARCH I FOUND THE SAME PROBLEM ON 2013 MODEL YEARS. I FEEL THE 2013 RECALL MAY NEED TO BE EXTENDED TO EARLIER MODEL YEARS. I AM FORTUNATE THE TRUCK DID NOT CATCH FIRE.

ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2019-02-01
  • VIN: 3D7UT2CL8BG
  • Components: ENGINE
  • Summary: TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN, MY WIFE AND I OWN A 2011 RAM 2500 6.7 TURBO DIESEL. IT WAS PURCHASED NEW BY HER PARENTS. I BOUGHT THE TRUCK FROM MY IN-LAWS A YEAR AGO AND IT'S JUST OVER 80,000 MILES. UNFORTUNATELY, OVER THE LAST 6 MONTHS, WE HAVE RUN INTO A COUPLE OF MAJOR ENGINE PROBLEMS: -O2 SENSOR (INCLUDES OVERLAY HARNESS AND MODULE REPLACEMENT), APPROX $1,500 -TURBOCHARGER - VARIABLE FLAPS NOT OPERATING PROPERLY, APPROX $5,000 (ACCORDING TO RAIRDON OF MONROE, WA) EVERYTHING I HAVE READ AND EVERY MECHANIC I HAVE TALKED TO (INCLUDING THE CHRYSLER DEALER) HAS SAID THE ONLY TRUE FIX IS TO DELETE THE EGR/EMISSIONS AND RUN THE TRUCK WITHOUT IT. IT IS VERY STRANGE THAT THE MOST TRUSTED FIX IS AN ILLEGAL OPTION AND THERE IS NO ASSISTANCE FROM CHRYSLER FOR EITHER OF THESE KNOWN PROBLEMS. SEEING AS THE DELETE IS AN ILLEGAL OPTION, I ATTEMPTED TO GO THE LEGAL ROUTE AND GET THE O2 SENSOR FIX AT THE DEALER. NOT MINUTES HAD I PICKED UP MY TRUCK, DRIVING OUT THE OF DEALERSHIP, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON FOR THE TURBOCHARGER. THERE IS SERVICE BULLETIN FOR THE O2 SENSOR ISSUE, HOWEVER IT WAS NEVER SUBMITTED AS A RECALL. IF IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE (A MANUFACTURE ERROR), WHY WAS THERE NO RECALL ISSUED BY CHRYSLER? IT SEEMS THE OVERARCHING ISSUE COMES FROM THE EMISSIONS EQUIPMENT. ALONG WITH THE O2 SENOR FAILING, THE TURBOCHARGER IS NOW SPITTING OUT AN ENGINE CODE (P2262). DUE TO THE CARBON/SOOT BUILD UP FROM THE EGR, THE VANES OF THE TURBOCHARGER BECOME CLOGGED. THIS IS ALSO A KNOWN ISSUE AND NOT A RECALL. PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT SOLUTIONS ARE AVAILABLE. THANK YOU!

2011 Ram 2500 recalls

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 4 recalls for different components of the 2011 Ram 2500.

2017-12-20
  • Manufacturer: Chrysler (FCA US LLC)
  • Components: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:LEVER AND LINKAGE:COLUMN SHIFT
  • Summary: Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2016-2017 Ram 3500 Cab Chassis with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of less than 10,000 lbs, 2011-2017 Ram 3500, 4500 and 5500 Cab Chassis vehicles, 2009-2017 Ram 1500 and 2010-2017 Ram 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks, all equipped with a column shifter. Pushing the brake pedal for prolonged periods when the vehicle is running and in PARK may cause the Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) pin to stick in the open position. With the pin in the open position, the transmission can be shifted out of PARK into any gear without pushing the brake pedal or having the key in the ignition.
  • Consequence: Being able to shift the transmission without pushing the brake pedal and/or without a key in the ignition can increase the risk of an unintended vehicle rollaway that may result in personal injury or a crash.
  • Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will update the vehicle software, inspect the BTSI, and, as necessary, replace it, free of charge. The recall began February 26, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is T79.
2014-10-08
  • Manufacturer: Chrysler Group LLC
  • Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:DIESEL
  • Summary: Chrysler Group LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2010-2014 Ram 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500 trucks manufactured March 27, 2009, to September 5, 2013. In the affected vehicles, the electrical connectors of the diesel fuel heater may overheat.
  • Consequence: If the connectors overheat, the fuel heater may leak fuel, increasing the risk of a fire.
  • Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the harness side connector with a silver plated beryllium copper terminal service kit, and inspect the fuel heater for leaks, replacing it as necessary, free of charge. Chrysler issued interim notification to owners on December 8, 2014. The recall began on April 27, 2015. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is P65.
2013-11-06
  • Manufacturer: Chrysler Group LLC
  • Components: STEERING:LINKAGES:TIE ROD ASSEMBLY
  • Summary: Chrysler Group LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2008-2012 RAM 2500 4X4 and 3500 4X4 trucks, 2008-2012 Dodge RAM 3500 4x2 Cab Chassis, and model year 2008 Dodge RAM 1500 Mega Cab 4x4. The left tie rod assembly may break.
  • Consequence: A failure of the tie rod assembly may result in a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Chrysler notified owners on January 16, 2014 that dealers would inspect vehicles and replace the steering linkage assembly, if necessary. On or about February 27, 2014, Chrysler ceased its recall remedy program due to parts quality concerns, and then re-initiated it on or about April 14, 2014. In July 2015, and under a consent order with NHTSA, the company agreed to offer owners three options for remedying their vehicles: perform the original remedy, offer to repurchase the vehicle at the fair market value plus 10%, or offer an additional incentive offer towards the purchase of a new Dodge, Jeep, Chrysler, or Fiat vehicle. Chrysler will notify owners of the new recall options in a letter expected to be mailed on August 31, 2015. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753. Chrysler's recall campaign number is N49.

Negative 2011 Ram 2500 car reviews

The truck is experiencing multiple injector problems, resulting in poor performance. Despite the challenges of finding a consistent diesel mechanic at Dodge, I am confident in my diagnosis that the Bosch injectors are the root cause of the issue. While Ram may only authorize the replacement of one injector under warranty, I am certain that this is not a result of bad fuel, but rather a systemic issue with the injectors themselves.

I recently purchased a Dodge 2500, but unfortunately, the truck is currently in the shop due to a busted transmission coolant line. The part required for repair will take 5 to 7 days to arrive. Despite the inconvenience, I am confident that the situation will be resolved promptly and efficiently. I have been in contact with customer care and am confident that they will provide the necessary support to ensure a satisfactory outcome.

Positive 2011 Ram 2500 car reviews

I have a Cummins 6.7L with a 6-speed automatic transmission, but unfortunately, I couldn't find that option on the drop-down menu. I absolutely adore this truck! It's large and sits up high, yet it doesn't feel unwieldy when driving. It fits nicely in the lane and tracks down the road with ease. The ride can be a bit bouncy, but for a heavy-duty truck, it's the best I've ever experienced. The interior is simple yet well thought out and quite nice. Currently, I'm getting around 16 MPG mixed city/highway, which is pretty impressive for a truck of this size. Although I purchased the truck for work purposes, I enjoy driving it so much that I look for any excuse to take it out for a spin!

2011/ SLT/ Bighorn/ crew cab/ 4X4/short bed/ Diesel/ 6 speed auto/ 800 Ft. Lbs. torque. What a wonderful ride! The styling is great and it can out-pull one Ford and two Chevys.

You know what? This is the best truck I've ever owned! It's not just stylish, but it's also super comfortable and performs like a dream.

  4. Jonathan Glover 2024-07-09

Although I loved my Cummins Diesel 4x4, the cost of maintenance and repairs were exorbitant. The fuel pump repair cost me $5000.00, while the transfer seal leak cost me $3000.00. Additionally, I had to replace the U joints every other year. Overall, owning this truck was quite expensive. Consequently, after owning it for 5 years, I decided to trade it in for a new Chevy.

  5. Mauricio Morissette 2024-05-25

I purchased the truck last month and I must say, I am impressed! We acquired the new CUMMINS engine with the new high output upgrade, which has given the truck the best power in class, bar none. It rides like a dream and is very well appointed in the Laramie package. I truly believe that you couldn't purchase a better truck.
