2007 Honda Pilot problems
The Honda Pilot is a mid-size crossover SUV with three-row seating manufactured by Honda since 2002. Primarily aimed at the North American market, the Pilot is the largest SUV produced by Honda. Pilots are currently manufactured in Lincoln, Alabama, and the Pilot was produced in Alliston, Ontario until April 2007. The first generation Pilot was released in April 2002 as a 2003 model.
The Pilot shares its platform with the Acura MDX, as well as the North American market Odyssey minivan. The Pilot's unibody construction and independent suspension are designed to provide handling similar to that of a car, and it has integrated perimeter frame rails to permit towing and light off-road use.
Prior to the introduction of the Pilot, Honda marketed the compact crossover CR-V and the Honda Passport (a rebadged Isuzu Rodeo). The Honda Passport that was sold between 1993 and 2002 was a truck-based design. The Pilot is Honda's largest SUV, although the 2010 Crosstour surpassed the Pilot in length. The Pilot is now currently in its fourth generation, with multiple design changes occurring from getting bigger and resembling a truck to downsizing and becoming sleeker to now a slight mix of both.
The Pilot is sold in North America and the Middle East, while the Honda MDX (first generation Acura MDX) was marketed in Japan and Australia for several years. The second-generation Pilot was also sold in Russia, Ukraine, South Korea, Latin America, and the Philippines.

SEATS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-07-12
- VIN: 5FNYF28427B
- Components: SEATS
- Summary: In mid 2023 while driving I excellerated and the driver seat fell backwards and to the right about 5 inches. I pulled over and discovered something under the left hand front side of driver seat had broke. I had a box and other stuff in the trunk and put it in the backseat to prop it up while I drove home. Discilovered a week later the side bracket had broke. And it was a part riveted onto the main seat. I had it welded but didn't trust the weld alone. I started fabrication of a bracket overlay (Honda wanted a fortune for the one part). After months of it being parked over the winter I bought another 2007 Honda Pilot for parts. Sad that Hondas quality has declined. Very dangerous, and the same thing had happened to a lot of other owners. Not something that should happen at any mileage. Ours had about 176k on it.

SEATS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-09-15
- VIN: 5FNYF28547B
- Components: SEATS
- Summary: Driver's seat front left mounting bracket snapped. Seat now rocks backward under pressure or during acceleration, and runs the risk of detaching completely in a collision. Over one hundred reports of similarly compromised driver's seats in Honda Pilot series 2003 - 2007 (mine is a 2007). Available for inspection upon request. Honda needs to issue a safety recall before injuries and fatalities start occurring.
SUSPENSION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-08-21
- VIN: 2HKYF18517H
- Components: SUSPENSION
- Summary: The rear subframe is completely rusted out where the trailing arm is attached. I was looking to see if I could purchase a used Pilot on line and maybe do an engine swap and was shocked how common this problem is. AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-05-23
- VIN: 5FNYF18587B
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: Passenger air bag lights continuously on. Took to mechanic, mechanic said it’s most likely a bad sensor or a wiring issue that’s causing the failure. That’s all I could find out without tearing into it any further. He ran all the tests and nothing shows that the sensor is bad. But he said it doesn’t make sense that it’s showing it’s bad. He is leaning towards wiring. Wiring??? I haven’t touched that.

It has been returned to the dealership 3 times for the same issue and they currently have the vehicle. They have experienced the same issue when they were trying to fix the issue but they cannot seem to figure it out. While I was investigating, I noticed that the 2005 Honda Pilot had the same issue, and the recall was started for the 2007 Honda Pilot also but was never issued. It makes it very unsafe to drive.

SUSPENSION,STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-05-22
- VIN: 5fnyf18527b
- Components: SUSPENSION,STRUCTURE
- Summary: While driving with six on board (car holds up to 8) I hit a moderate bump. The car made a loud bang, and felt unstable. At the same time, ABS, VTM-4, and stabilty warning lights came on. I was in a construction zone with no place to stop, so I kept going. The instabilty seemed manageable, so I kept going to an exit. On the ramp, while cornering even slightly, there was a rubbing sound from the rear wheel area. In a straight line, it sounded okay, but didn't feel right. When we were able to park and get out, the rear wheels were splayed out (extreme negative camber) as if the car was grossly overloaded, even though if was empty. Upon inspection, I found that the two rear mounts for the subframe had completely pulled out of the unibody. The subframe had rusted from the inside, so there was no appearance of structurally significant rust until it failed. When the suspension subframe pulled away, it pulled apart the wiring for the ABS, etc. This is a very unsafe condition that appeared with no warning. A quick internet search shows that it's also quite common.

- Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver frontal air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began on July 1, 2015. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Owners may contact Acura customer service at 1-800-382-2238, select option 4. Note: Vehicles that have had their driver frontal air bag replaced previously as part of a recall remedy prior to September 12, 2014 need to have their air bag replaced under this recall as well. Vehicles that, on or after September 12, 2014, received a remedy for a prior driver frontal air bag inflator recall already received an inflator of a different design, and therefore are not included in this recall and do not require additional servicing. Note: This recall fully supersedes recalls 08V-593, 09V-259, 10V-041, 11V-260, 14V-351 and 15V-153. Honda's numbers for this recall are JQ9, JR0, JR1, JR2, JR3, JR4, JR5, JR6, JR7, and JR8.

I bought the pilot brand new in 2007 and my family absolutely loves it! The front and rear seats are very comfortable, although the seats in the far back are more suitable for kids or smaller people. The ride is comfortable and not at all annoying, although it's not the quietest SUV out there. It's a great sized SUV that handles well, but it's not a sports car. As expected with a larger SUV, the gas mileage isn't the greatest, but I usually get around 15mpg city and 19mpg on the freeway. It's worth noting that my little sister, who is a bit of a speed demon, calls me Mr. Slow poke, but I prefer to take things at a more relaxed pace. I've had a few minor issues with the car, such as having to adjust the valves earlier than recommended by Honda, a broken air tube between the air filter and the engine, and a broken plastic cover on the left side of the driver's seat where the seat controls are located. However, there is plenty of room to haul all sorts of things in this SUV, from 12-foot 2x4s to fencing material and bicycles. I've even made use of the roof rack (for a Christmas tree) and installed a trailer hitch. Overall, I highly recommend this SUV for anyone in need of a spacious and reliable vehicle.

Hi there! I'm glad to hear that you've had a great experience with your midsized SUV! It's great to know that you haven't had any major issues with it in the 3 1/2 years you've been driving it. I hope you don't mind me asking, but have you noticed any differences in insulation between the LX 4WD and the EXL? It's good to know that it handles well in the Snowbelt winters, even in 2WD. And it's great to hear that it's been mechanically perfect so far with only regular scheduled maintenance. Thanks for sharing that you get 20 MPG during your normal day to day driving. Have a great day!

I had an 06 Accord EX-L and then bought the 07 Pilot EX-L. I must say, the engine, transmission, and 4WD system are all flawless. The two words that come to mind when describing these systems are 'effortless engagement'. The engine is silky smooth and near silent, while the transmission is always in the right gear and never misses a beat. You can barely feel the tug when the rear wheels kick in. Considering the size and weight of the vehicle, it rides almost as nice as the Accord. I love the size and interior space, which is great for hauling loads of just about anything around. I could have bought any SUV manufactured by the big 3 and saved thousands, but I still chose the Pilot. Simply put, it's a Honda.

I recently upgraded to the Honda Pilot (AWD with NAV) from my 2003 Infiniti FX35. While the FX had its merits, there were a few drawbacks that made me consider a change. The seating was uncomfortable, the driver seat power buttons were awkwardly placed under the right leg, and the ride in the rear seat was extremely rough on anything other than a perfectly smooth road. Additionally, the rounded design of the FX made for poor visibility. However, the Honda Pilot has exceeded my expectations with its excellent visibility and ample glass area. The third row seating is a great bonus, and I'm pleased to be able to run the vehicle on regular gas. Best of all, I was able to get most of the options I had on my Infiniti for $14,000 less at sticker. After considering the Acura, I ultimately decided to stick with Honda and I'm thrilled with the value I've received!

I bought Pilot EXL AWD over a year back and thought I would use it for a while before I did the review. A year and 10K miles later, I am completely satisfied with my Pilot. This vehicle gives you the practicality of a minivan or close without having to buy a minivan. The vehicle has good ergonomics and the lot of nice storage compartments, etc. It handles well and gives about 21.5 mpg on the highway and about 16 ~17 in the city. The third row seats are excellent, for moderate sized adults. Great Value for Money.

I bought this car used at 130k miles and unfortunately experienced some issues. The radiator went bust and leaked all transmission fluid, severely overheating the transmission, resulting in hard shifts ever since. Additionally, the steering wheel shakes above 70 on the highway, despite multiple attempts to balance the tires and do alignment. The ABS sensors also went at about 137k miles and had to be replaced. However, there are some positives to this car. It is very roomy and can carry as much as a pickup truck with both rows folded down. The interior design is pretty nice, with a column shifter that allows for lots of storage space. The suspension feels quite comfortable and the handling feels normal. It also does not burn oil for the first 3k miles after an oil change. Overall, while there have been some issues, this car has proven to be a reliable and spacious option for me.

I have been a Honda Pilot owner for 4 years and I absolutely loved my 2003 model. When it was time to renew my lease, I decided to upgrade to the 2007 Honda Pilot. However, I have noticed that the driver's seat does not have the same amount of leg room as my previous Honda, which makes driving uncomfortable. As a confident Honda Pilot driver, I expect the highest level of comfort and functionality from my vehicle. It is disappointing to experience a decrease in comfort with the newer model.

The fuel consumption estimate on the sales sticker states 17 MPG city and 22 MPG highway. However, I have been getting 9 to 12 MPG. The dealer keeps telling me to wait for the engine to break in, but as I put more miles on this gas guzzler, the fuel efficiency seems to be getting worse.

We chose this vehicle because it was the one we liked the most. As someone who has only driven cars before, I was disappointed with how it handles. The steering response is slow and mushy, which makes me feel like I'm sending signals to the engine room whenever I make a steering adjustment. Additionally, I was surprised to find out that the 6-disk CD changer doesn't play mp3 encoded disks. However, the build quality is excellent, the engine is quiet and responsive, and the seating arrangement is very versatile.

I read all the reviews on the Pilot and they sounded wonderful, so I decided to buy a 2007 model. Unfortunately, I have not had the best experience with it. The gas mileage is not what I expected and I feel disappointed that the car manufacturer did not provide accurate information. I get 11-13 miles per gallon in the city and only 20.5 on the highway. The dealer has been trying to help, but so far, nothing has worked. I had an intake sensor replaced, but it did not improve the situation. I am also disappointed that the ECO light does not seem to make a difference in fuel efficiency. My husband's F150 gets better mileage than the Pilot. This experience has left me feeling frustrated and I do not think I will be purchasing another Honda in the future.
