2006 Honda Odyssey problems
For the North American market, the Honda Odyssey, is a minivan manufactured and marketed by Japanese automaker Honda since 1994, now in its fifth generation, which began in 2018.
The Odyssey had originally been conceived and engineered in Japan, in the wake of the country's economic crisis of the 1990s – which in turn imposed severe constraints on the vehicle's size and overall concept, dictating the minivan's manufacture in an existing facility with minimal modification. The result was a smaller minivan, in the compact MPV class, that was well received in the Japanese domestic market and less well received in North America. The first generation Odyssey was marketed in Europe as the Honda Shuttle.
Subsequent generations diverged to reflect market variations, and Honda built a plant in Lincoln, Alabama, United States, incorporating the ability to manufacture larger models. Since model year 1999, Honda has marketed a larger (large MPV-class) Odyssey in North America and a smaller Odyssey in Japan and other markets. Honda also offered the larger North American Odyssey in Japan as the LaGreat (ラグレイト, Ragureito) beginning in June 1999 through 2005. Both versions of the Odyssey were sold in Japan at Honda Clio dealership locations. Both versions of the Odyssey are currently sold in the Middle East.

Common 2006 Honda Odyssey problems
2006 Honda Odyssey Common Problems
The 2006 Honda Odyssey is a popular minivan known for its spacious interior and family-friendly features. However, like any vehicle, it has its share of common problems that owners have reported. Here are some of the most frequently mentioned issues with the 2006 Honda Odyssey, based on owner complaints and available resources.
- Sliding Doors: Some owners have reported issues with the sliding doors, such as them coming unlatched while the vehicle is in motion or not opening all the way even when the window is closed. The latter issue may be caused by the window regulator not contacting the lever arm properly, making the sliding door control unit think the window is open. These problems can be a safety concern and should be addressed by a dealer or mechanic.
- Fuel Pump: A potentially faulty fuel pump can cause fumes to leak inside the vehicle, which can lead to negative health consequences for the driver, such as drowsiness or fatigue. This can increase the risk of a crash. If you experience this issue, it's essential to have a mechanic or dealer inspect and replace the fuel pump if necessary.
- Blurriness in the Windshield: Some drivers have reported substantial blurriness in the windshield of the 2006 Honda Odyssey, even when the windshield is clean. While some vehicle owners may notice that there’s an improvement after wiping the windshield with a cleaning solution, others may find that the blurriness does not go away, even after cleaning. The solution to this problem is to have the windshield replaced.
- Power Steering Failure: Power steering failure can result in the steering wheel suddenly becoming very difficult for the driver to turn. While the vehicle can still be driven when the power steering is not working, it’s dangerous for a driver to suddenly and unexpectedly need to put muscle into making a turn. This can result in a crash if power steering failure occurs while the vehicle is in motion. Fixing this issue can be different from vehicle to vehicle, and may involve replacing power steering fluid or replacing certain components of the power steering system.
- Transmission Issues: Some 2006 Honda Odyssey drivers have experienced transmission problems, which can lead to costly repairs. It's essential to have the transmission inspected regularly and address any issues promptly.
- Doors May Fall Off When Being Closed: Some drivers have reported that the sliding doors on the side of the van can become detached from the vehicle while the doors are being closed. This can result in injury for the person who is closing the door and can render the vehicle unable to be driven until the doors can be replaced. Fixing this issue requires a mechanic to inspect the components that attach the door to the vehicle, replacing any materials found to be faulty.
- Electrical Issues with Door Closing: Some owners have reported electrical issues with the door closing mechanism, which can make it difficult to close the doors properly. A mechanic can inspect the electrical and mechanical components required for closing the doors, and replace any faulty materials.
- Vehicle Vibration: Some drivers have reported excessive vehicle vibration, which can be caused by various factors, such as tire balance or suspension issues. It's essential to have the vehicle inspected by a mechanic to diagnose and address the root cause of the vibration.
It's important to note that these common problems do not affect all 2006 Honda Odyssey vehicles. Regular maintenance and inspections can help identify and address potential issues before they become significant problems. If you're considering purchasing a 2006 Honda Odyssey, it's a good idea to have a mechanic inspect the vehicle for any of these issues and address them before making the purchase.

STEERING,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-04-09
- VIN: 5fnrl38616b
- Components: STEERING,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: One main problem I have consistently noticed is signs someone other than me is getting in my car or leaving at least impression they did inside the car alot although I am the only one supposed to have a key. It was happening so much I paid Lafontaine Honda more than $1000 to change out the keys including the ignition but that hasnt resolved the problem. I still see normal evidence they are actually touching things inside my car and even stealing alot of fuel which they took so much last night it was ridiculous. I keep sending my local police reports and photos of as much as I can using the tipline and they never contact me back like they either ignoring, staying anonymous, or have no time to read my messages. They fuel is being stolen everytime I fill the tank by someone nearbye. The next issue is that there is a malfunction clearly feels like it is inside the steering wheel mechanics and not my tires that something or one is overriding the steering when I am on the freeway and highway jerking me in the direction of other vehicles when they start passing me like they trying to make them think I am threatening to hit them or threatening me to cause a collision. Exactly how it feels. They were even doing it to lyrics in the music while I was driving alot the whole trip there and back. The car seems very insecure. I see also that other people in like models cars locally are popping up on me like they have a gps on me and that is threatening. The steering wheels ignition switch was checked and I told them of the intrusion problems but they offered me no solution. Insurance is not helping me with repairs of anything and wont even offer me an option to get me discounts on car repairs or inspection help. I cant even report that type of stuff. Police also wont inspect a car but sends me away to a mechanic all the time. I think the previous owner may have modded a bunch of the parts but it is my car and should only be responding to me. Not others.

The Touring has all the bells and whistles. Although, I am not looking forward to replacing the PAX tires in the future. The car is quiet and solid. However, my major gripe is that the hatch does not seal out water at the bottom, which leaves a horrid rust streak where the bumper and hatch meet. This is quite pathetic!

You won't believe how comfortable and reliable this car is! It's definitely the best one I've ever had.

I had some issues with this van. I purchased it to provide more space for my children and to enjoy the DVD player. I previously owned a CRV and had a great experience with it. I had to replace the tires and battery, and I wish the lights would automatically shut off to prevent my children from accidentally leaving them on. Unfortunately, the DVD player broke and I had to get a new one installed. Additionally, the small drawer above the floor broke and the tracks fell off, and the middle storage can be difficult to access. The van also struggles in snowy conditions, which is a concern for me living in Michigan. As a result, I am currently exploring options to trade it in.

I'm a certified Master technician. My wife and I researched for months and finally purchased the Honda. The Toyota was a close runner-up. Quality and resale are our biggest concerns and we believe Honda has an excellent track record. We agree with many of the posts, and we think Honda should consider focusing more on the convenience issues.

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with our Honda van that my wife and I bought back in 2008. We absolutely love it! It's been such a reliable vehicle for us. We've noticed that the mileage can vary depending on the wind and load, but we usually get around 17-18 mpg in town and 22-26 mpg on the highway. We've only had to make one repair so far, when one coil went out about 500 miles ago, and we do need to replace the back shocks and timing belt soon, which will cost around $500. But overall, we're really happy with our van and think it's a great choice for road trips with the kids. In fact, we're already thinking about buying another one when this one reaches 175,000 miles or in about 3 years. Thanks for listening!

We were excited to try Honda after hearing so much about their wonderful driving experience and quality. However, we have had some issues with our 2006 Odyssey. The transmission needs to be replaced at slightly more than 60,000 miles, but luckily we purchased the extended warranty for this vehicle. We have also noticed that the road noise is too loud, the steering pump is loud, and the CD player has never worked properly. Additionally, the handling on wet or snow covered roads is not great. Despite these issues, we have enjoyed some features of the vehicle, such as the entertainment system, fold down rear seats, and maintenance minder system.

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share my experience with my 06 Odyssey. Unfortunately, since I purchased it, I've noticed some vibrations in the steering wheel at highway cruising speeds which can be quite annoying, tiring, and even unsafe at times. Additionally, I've experienced some excessive steering 'kickback' when driving over bumps or imperfections in the pavement. Despite having the tires balanced twice by Honda, there hasn't been any improvement. I would highly recommend taking the Odyssey for a test drive at highway speeds before making a purchase. Let me know if you have any questions!

At the time of this release, the Honda Odyssey has been the definitive minivan for the market segment. I often find myself at intersections with multiple Odysseys in line, which doesn't bother me because I feel comfortable knowing I've selected the best available option for my money. If you're on the fence deciding between the Sienna or the Honda, which I was, I have no regrets with this car. The fit and finish far exceed all other minivans in this segment, and this has been one of the few rare purchases in my life that I haven't regretted.

I purchased a Honda Odyssey in June 2005 and unfortunately experienced brake problems after just 13 months. I decided to trade it in for a 2006 model, but have since encountered a few issues. I had to replace all four tires after less than two years, and the battery also needed to be replaced. Recently, I have noticed a whistling noise when I apply the brakes, and the backside of the passenger seat has started to fall apart. Although the dealership initially tried to blame my kids for the damage, they eventually fixed it for me. However, I did have to return to the dealership on 11-11-08 to have it fixed again. It seems that some Honda Odysseys may experience issues after two years of use, which can be frustrating for owners who are still paying off their vehicle.

The car has experienced some issues within the first two years of ownership, including engine noise and a necessary battery replacement. Additionally, the air conditioning system has not been performing optimally, and unfortunately, it is not covered by the warranty.
