2007 Honda Odyssey problems
For the North American market, the Honda Odyssey, is a minivan manufactured and marketed by Japanese automaker Honda since 1994, now in its fifth generation, which began in 2018.
The Odyssey had originally been conceived and engineered in Japan, in the wake of the country's economic crisis of the 1990s – which in turn imposed severe constraints on the vehicle's size and overall concept, dictating the minivan's manufacture in an existing facility with minimal modification. The result was a smaller minivan, in the compact MPV class, that was well received in the Japanese domestic market and less well received in North America. The first generation Odyssey was marketed in Europe as the Honda Shuttle.
Subsequent generations diverged to reflect market variations, and Honda built a plant in Lincoln, Alabama, United States, incorporating the ability to manufacture larger models. Since model year 1999, Honda has marketed a larger (large MPV-class) Odyssey in North America and a smaller Odyssey in Japan and other markets. Honda also offered the larger North American Odyssey in Japan as the LaGreat (ラグレイト, Ragureito) beginning in June 1999 through 2005. Both versions of the Odyssey were sold in Japan at Honda Clio dealership locations. Both versions of the Odyssey are currently sold in the Middle East.

Common 2007 Honda Odyssey problems
Based on the complaints from owners of the 2007 Honda Odyssey, several common problems have been reported. Here is a detailed list of these issues:
- Loss of Power Steering: Some owners have experienced a loss of power steering at around 70,000 miles. This problem is often due to the power steering pump wearing out quickly, requiring the replacement of the entire pump assembly, which costs around $1,000.
- Excessive Oil Consumption: Within the first 100,000 miles, excessive oil consumption has been noted. This issue can stem from failed seals in the engine and a worn-out oil pump. Repairing the oil pump costs around $1,000, while rebuilding the engine with new seals can cost over $2,000.
- Brake Recalls: The 2007 Honda Odyssey has been recalled multiple times for brake-related issues. These include reduced performance, leaks, and glitchy software that could apply the brakes without warning, leading to a sudden, unexpected halt.
- Doors Falling Off: A significant concern reported by owners is the driver's side sliding door falling off the hinges unexpectedly. This issue has been noted without any accidents, with little explanation as to why it occurs. Unfortunately, there have been no recalls or investigations regarding this problem, and warranty coverage is unlikely due to the car's age.
- Rollaway in Park: Another critical issue reported is the vehicle continuing to move after being put in Park, potentially rolling down hills. This issue has been observed around 130,000 miles, with no recalls or investigations yet. Transmission issues are becoming more common with age, making transmission problems almost inevitable for older models.
These problems highlight some of the key issues faced by owners of the 2007 Honda Odyssey. Addressing these concerns promptly and ensuring regular maintenance can help mitigate these issues and prolong the lifespan of the vehicle.

Interior lights and dash would be working but no way to turn over. If I engage my brake and jiggle the shifter, it will do something that finally allows me to start it. This had left me stranded more times I would like but finally a helpful citizen showed me how to jiggle the shifter to get it to engage. I shouldn't have to do this at least once a week.

- Summary: Power sliding doors on EXL model becomes slightly ajar/open after the door is closed and the power to the sliding doors is off. Furthermore, door slid open while the vehicle is moving (happened 3 times over the years) with our family dog falling out of the car in the most recent situation. (In the other two times, door slid open next to my kids who were buckled in and thus were not harmed). Please note that for the Honda Odyssey, all doors are automatically locked when the transmission is shifted out of PARK. Thus the door should not open on its own especially while the vehicle is moving. Dealership cannot replicate the problem and wants to replace the door latches which have previously been replaced (when the first two incidents happened). Even with this repair, they cannot guarantee that the door will not slide open while the vehicle is moving.

- Summary: TIRES PRURCHASED FROM WALMART 10/6/18 WERE INSTALLED IMPROPERLY AND THEY CHANGED THE MANUFACTURES CALIBRATION. THE TPMS LIGHT CAME ON, I RETURNED THE VAN TO WALMART; THEY NEVER FIXED THE PROBLEM AND I MADE FIVE VISITS. THE MANAGER DID NOT KNOW WHAT A TPMS SENSOR WAS; DID NOT HAVE ANY IN THE SHOP. I FREQUENTLY HAD THE AIR PRESSURE IN THE TIRE CHECKS. TWO WEEKS AGO, DRIVING THE VAN THE TIRES SEEMED TO BE WOBBLY, I HAD THE AIR PRESSURE CHECKED AGAIN AND AGAIN. ON APRIL 15, 2021, I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH WALMART AT THE MAIN OFFICE AND TOOK THE SUV TO THE HAMMOND, INDIANA CAR CENTER. AFTER HAGGLING WITH THE STAFF FO OVER 4 HOURS, THEY REPLACED THE TWO TIRE. THE PROBLEM OF THE WOBBLING TIRES HAD NOT BEEN SOLVED. ONLY THE WOBBLING WAS LESS NOTICEABLE. I MADE OVER 20 TELEPHONE CALLS TO THE CAR CENTER WITHOUT THE PHONE BEING ANSWERED. TODAY I FILED ANOTHER COMPLAINT WITH WALMART HEADQUARTERS.MARTHA, THE PERSON THAT TOOK THE COMPLAINT STATED THAT I WOULD BE CONTACTED BY THE CAR CENTER. THIS CENTER SHOULD BE CLOSED; LIVES ARE AT STACK AND THE WORKERS ARE RUDE AND ARE NOT FOLLOWING THE TREAD ACT. I NEVER EXPERIENCED THE TPMS COMING ON UNTIL WALMART REPLACED MY TIRES. MY MECHANIC DRIVE THE SUV AND HIS OBSERVATION WAS "THE FRONT TIRES ARE OUT OF ROUND BY 1/4 INCH AND INNER SIDE WALL BULGING". HIS FIRST OBSERVATION WAS IN OCTOBER 2018, SHORTLY AFTER WALMART INSTALLED THE TIRES. ON 4/15/21, I CONTACTED GOODYEAR AND THEY GAVE NO INFORMATION ON TPMS . I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS SUV AD I BELIEVE THAT WALMART IS VIOLATING THE TREAD ACT. THEY RELUCTANTLY REPLACED THE TIRES, BUT EVEN WORSE THE TPMS LIGHT IS STILL ON. THERE WERE NO NOTIFICATIONS POSTED ON THE WALLS IN THAT CAR CENTER. IN ADDITION, MY SON RECENTLY PURCHASED TIRES FOR HIS SUV FROM THIS SAME WALMART HE WAS NOT GIVEN ANY INFORMATION ABOUT TPMS SENSORS AND NONE WERE INSTALLED.
2007 Honda Odyssey recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 5 recalls for different components of the 2007 Honda Odyssey.
- Manufacturer: Delphi Automotive Systems, LLC
- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP
- Summary: Delphi Automotive Systems, LLC (Delphi) is recalling certain replacement fuel pump modules, part number FG1155-11B1, sold for use in 2005-2010 Honda Odyssey vehicles. The affected fuel pump may send an incorrect fuel reading to the fuel gauge possibly causing the vehicle to run out of fuel. The fuel gauge will always read 3/4 full to full regardless of the actual level.
- Consequence: A vehicle that runs out of fuel and stalls has an increased risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Delphi has begun notifying dealers and distributors, and will replace the fuel pump modules, free of charge. Owners may contact Delphi customer service at 1-877-411-8770. Delphi's number for this recall is GL14-004.
- Manufacturer: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.)
- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP
- Summary: American Honda Motor Co., Inc. (Honda) is recalling certain 2005-2010 Honda Odyssey vehicles manufactured June 23, 2004, through September 4, 2010. In the affected vehicles, the fuel pump strainer cover may deteriorate allowing fuel to leak out.
- Consequence: A fuel leak increases the risk of a fire.
- Remedy: Parts to permanently repair the affected vehicles are not currently available. Honda will notify owners with an interim letter during May 2014. A second notice was mailed to owners October 6, 2014 when the remedy became available. Any vehicles that are currently leaking from the fuel pump cover will get a replacement, original cover. All vehicles, including those receiving the interim repair, will get an improved cover when they are available. Owners may contact Honda at 1-800-999-1009. The recall numbers associated with this campaign are JD9 (inspection and/or preliminary part replacement) and JE0 (final parts replacement).
- Manufacturer: Honda (American Honda Motor Co.)
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE
- Summary: American Honda Motor Company (Honda) is recalling certain model year 2007-2008 Honda Odyssey vehicles manufactured August 8, 2006, through September 8, 2008. Due to a combination of system components and software, the Vehicle Safety Assist System (VSA) may apply the brakes unexpectedly.
- Consequence: The vehicle may suddenly and unexpectedly brake hard, and without illuminating the brake lights, increasing the risk of a crash from behind.
- Remedy: Parts to remedy these vehicles will not be available until the spring of 2014. Honda will send owners an interim letter notifying them of the issue and instruct them how to prevent unintended braking. A second notification will be sent when the parts become available. Interim notification was mailed in December 2013. The recall began on April 29, 2014. Owners may contact Honda at 1-800-999-1009 or visit their website at www.recalls.honda.com. - Manufacturer: HONDA (AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO.)
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:MASTER CYLINDER
- Summary: HONDA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2005-2007 ODYSSEY AND ACURA RL VEHICLES. BRAKE FLUID CONTAINING POLYMERS IS USED THAT ACTS AS A LUBRICANT FOR CERTAIN BRAKE SYSTEM COMPONENTS. IF REPLACEMENT BRAKE FLUID IS USED THAT DOES NOT CONTAIN SUCH POLYMERS, OR THAT CONTAINS ONLY SMALL AMOUNTS, A PART OF THE RUBBER SEAL LOCATED AT THE REAR OF THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER MAY BECOME DRY, AND THE SEAL MAY CURL DURING MOVEMENT OF THE PISTON. IF THIS OCCURS, A SMALL AMOUNT OF BRAKE FLUID COULD SLOWLY LEAK FROM THE SEAL INTO THE BRAKE BOOSTER.
- Consequence: A LEAK OF BRAKE FLUID COULD LEAD TO A CHANGE IN BRAKE PEDAL FEEL AND OVERTIME A DEGRADATION IN BRAKING PERFORMANCE INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER SEAL FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING DECEMBER 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009.
- Manufacturer: HONDA (AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO.)
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES, AIR
- Summary: HONDA HAS NOTIFIED NHTSA OF A DEFECT IN CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2007 AND 2008 ODYSSEY AND ELEMENT PASSENGER VEHICLES MANUFACTURED BETWEEN JULY 28, 2006 AND AUGUST 21, 2008. AIR CAN ENTER THE VSA MODULAR PUMP DURING AN INITIAL SELF-CHECK PROCESS THAT OCCURS SHORTLY AFTER EACH TIME THE ENGINE IS STARTED. IT IS POSSIBLE FOR ENOUGH AIR TO ENTER THE SYSTEM TO RESULT IN A BRAKE PEDAL THAT FEELS SOFT OR LOWER TO THE FLOOR.
- Consequence: IF THE OWNER DOES NOT HAVE ANY BRAKE SERVICE OR MAINTENANCE PERFORMED OVER A PERIOD OF MONTHS OR YEARS, THE SYSTEM CAN CONTINUE TO ACCUMULATE ENOUGH AIR TO AFFECT BRAKING PERFORMANCE, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
- Remedy: HONDA WILL NOTIFY OWNER AND HONDA DEALERS WILL REPAIR THE VSA MODULATOR BY REMOVING ANY EXISTING AIR IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM THEN APPLY SEALANT AND CAPS TO PREVENT AIR FROM ENTERING THE BRAKE SYSTEM FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON MAY 3, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009.

I absolutely adore this vehicle! It's so much fun to drive and has a plethora of enjoyable features. Based on my experience with other Hondas I've owned, I expect this one to be just as reliable. Although I've always owned GM products in the past, my last one pushed me away. However, this Honda van has won me over. The leather interior is absolutely beautiful and the integrated DVD and navigation system work flawlessly. I especially love the voice command prompts, although I still need to learn the lingo. The vehicle is incredibly tight and there are no rattles to be heard. It drives more like a sedan than a truck, which is fantastic. I can't wait to take it on a long trip! The back-up camera is a great feature that removes the fear of not seeing what's right behind you. Overall, I highly recommend this van!

This van is amazing! It has so much room for the kids and is even more comfortable than our previous 01' Dodge Grand Caravan. We haven't checked the gas mileage yet, but it doesn't seem to be as bad as other reviews suggest. If you live in snowy conditions like we do, it's definitely worth paying a little extra for the rubber floor mats and cargo tray. The van has great acceleration and I find myself speeding often. I love the back windows, the cargo storage area, the 8th seat, the heated seats, the moonroof, and the overall ride! I highly recommend test driving this van and seeing for yourself how great it is!
-
Keep up the good work! Your vehicle only needs regular oil changes and tire rotations.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my mini van. I got a great deal on it, even though there was a brake recall in 2007. I knew I would need to put some money into it, but I noticed right away that something was off with the front end. As a mechanic, I was able to fix the issue by bleeding all 4 calipers and replacing the rotors and pads on all 4 wheels. I didn't use genuine Honda rotors because they have a history of being thin and warping easily, but I found a quality aftermarket option. Since then, I haven't had any issues. Thanks for listening!

We spent years researching minivans before finally deciding on one, and the Odyssey has exceeded our expectations in every way except for one. Not only does it look great, but it also excels in all the important areas. The ride is awesome, with plenty of power and excellent handling. The fit and finish are impeccable, and everything is exactly where you would expect it to be. The leather is fantastic, making it the best vehicle we have ever owned.

I recently had a negative experience with my 2007 Honda Odyssey Touring version. Despite my previous positive experience with Honda, this particular model had several issues including run flat tires that were expensive to replace, a persistent low tire pressure light, power steering pump problems, and issues with the alternator and compressor. Additionally, the factory tire size was too small and the light bulbs needed frequent replacement. While I was disappointed with these issues, I remain confident in my ability to make informed decisions about my future car purchases.

Update 1012/21: After some initial expensive repairs that you wouldn't expect from a Honda, the van has been running fine. However, the new Honda rack and pinion that I had to install has a slow leak and is now out of warranty. I'm not replacing it again, but I'm keeping an eye on the fluid level. The second replacement of the timing belt is due this month, which will cost around 1200-1500 dollars. But at this point, the van is running straight and tight, and the 3.5 liter engine, running on 93 octane, is like a V8. It's running well and it's paid for. Although Consumer Reports now rates the Odyssey as one of the 'Most Unreliable' used cars, I bought this van used and my mechanic, a 30-year veteran, inspected six Odysseys before we found a well-maintained one with 60K. I was happy with the van for the first few months, but then I encountered some problems: a blown power steering line, overheating caused by a faulty Honda fuse, a bad power steering pump, and a leaking power steering rack (at 64K?!). I called Honda USA about the leaking power steering rack and asked them for 'Goodwill', but they were arrogant, refused, and didn't seem to care about repeat customers. Updated 4/11/16: The power steering rack, power steering pump, power steering line, electrical problem/overheating, CV joints, plus basic maintenance puts this vehicle as one of the most unreliable I've ever owned. There is also a low-level whining noise on the up side of a gear in the final drive section of the transmission, which my master mechanic describes as a problem you would never expect from a well-maintained Japanese car. The sound-proofing is ineffective and the road noise is loud. However, it handles great with T-rated tires, although the unique tire size limits your choice of replacement tires. Buy one at your own risk. You might get a good one, or you might not. :)

I traded in my 2004 Ody EX for the 2007 Ody LX because I was really taken by the new design. However, I have come to realize that I could have kept my 2004 and been just as happy, if not happier. While the 2007 model design is an improvement over the 2004 model, the execution has left a lot to be desired. Unfortunately, I noticed an engine drone noise at 180 miles, and Honda claimed it was characteristic of vehicle harmonics, which I found hard to believe. At 400 miles, I noticed a whining buzzing noise from the power steering pump. I took it to the dealer, but they could not duplicate the problem. I drove the vehicle myself and brought it back to the dealer while making the noise. Finally, they acknowledged the issue with 05-07 power steering pumps.
