The 2013, 2014 and 2015 Encore in the U.S. was offered in Base, Convenience, Leather, and Premium level models with the A14NET 1.4-liter inline-four multi-port fuel injected (MFI) VVT turbo gasoline engine rated at 128 hp (95 kW; 130 PS) @ 4900 rpm coupled to a 6-speed automatic transmission. It was available in front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) versions.
For 2016, a new Sport Touring second tier model was added which included an 18-inch alloy wheels with midnight silver finish, rear spoiler, body-color door handles, remote start, fog lights, and a new more powerful B14XFT Ecotec inline four-cylinder direct fuel injection VVT engine rated at 153 hp (114 kW; 155 PS) @ 5600 rpm in Encore marketing materials. However, Opel in Europe rates the engine for the Mokka at 150 hp (112 kW; 152 PS) @ 4900–6000 rpm.
The Ecotec direct-injection engine package includes Stop/Start technology to improve fuel economy and was made available as an option on all but the base model for 2017 and 2018. In 2017, the model levels became Base, Preferred, Sport Touring, Preferred II, Essence, and Premium.

IT WOULD COME ON THEN GO OFF OR NOT COME ON AT ALL. TOOK CAR TO NEARBY DEALERSHIP, THEY STATED "NO PROBLEM, WE CAN ADJUST THE SENSOR ALL THE WAY DOWN TO 85 LBS." ABOUT HALF WAY HOME THE PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF LIGHT CAME BACK ON. AFTER SIX (6) TRIPS BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHICH INCLUDED REPLACING THE SEAT SENSOR AND THE PASSENGER PRESENCE MODULE, THE ASSISTANT SERVICE MANAGER HOOKED UP A COMPUTER TO THE CAR WITH MY WIFE IN THE SEAT AND THE AIRBAG LIGHT OFF. HE SAID THE COMPUTER WAS SHOWING THE SEAT OCCUPIED BUT THE AIRBAG DISABLED. HE THEN STATED HE WOULD HAVE TO KEEP THE CAR AND TALK TO THE ENGINEERS AT DETROIT. THE NEXT DAY I RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE SERVICE DEPT. SAYING MY WIFE WOULD HAVE TO WEIGH 125 LBS BEFORE THE AIRBAG SENSOR WOULD ACTIVATE AND IT WAS NORMAL FOR THE AIRBAG TO BE OFF AND THAT IT WOULD ACTUALLY BE BETTER FOR MY WIFE IF IT THE AIRBAG DIDN'T WORK. I FIND THIS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE.

- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Buick Verano and 2016 Chevrolet Malibu as the electronic park lock lever may allow the ignition key to be removed without the transmission being in PARK. Also, certain 2013 Buick Encore, 2011 Buick Regal, 2013-2014 Buick Verano, 2011-2016 Chevrolet Cruze, 2010-2013 Chevrolet Equinox 2013-2015 Chevrolet Malibu, and 2011-2013 GMC Terrain vehicles may have been serviced with similar defective replacement electronic park lock levers. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 114, "Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention."
- Consequence: If the key is removed without the transmission in PARK, the vehicle may rollaway as occupants are exiting, increasing the risk of injury.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and if necessary replace the key cylinder lock housing, free of charge. The recall began on October 14, 2016. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, Buick 1-800-521-7300, and GMC 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 50490 and 50491.

- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2013 Buick Encore vehicles manufactured August 23, 2012, to March 1, 2013, and model year 2013 Cadillac ATS vehicles manufactured April 23, 2012, to May 1, 2013. In the affected vehicles, the driver and passenger lap belt pretensioner cables may not lock in a retracted position, allowing the seat belts to extend when pulled upon.
- Consequence: If the seat belts do not remain locked in the retracted position when under load, the seat occupant may not be adequately restrained in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace both front the driver's and the passenger's lap belt pretensioners, free of charge. Parts are not currently available. GM sent interim notifications on October 7, 2014 and will send a second notification when remedy parts are available. The recall began on November 20, 2014. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, or Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is 14171.

Due to an incomplete weld on the seat hook bracket assembly, the front seats in the affected vehicles may not stay secured in place during a high load condition such as a crash.

In cold temperatures, the insulation on the engine block heater cord can become damaged, allowing the wires to be exposed.
- Consequence: Exposed wires increase the risk of electrical shock and personal injury if the cord is handled while it is plugged in.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the engine oil pan/block heater cord with a new cord that is rated for temperatures of minus 40 degree Celsius. - Summary: General Motors is recalling certain model year 2013 Buick Encore vehicles manufactured between December 9, 2012 and December 28, 2012, and equipped with a heated steering wheel. The steering wheel fastener may not have been properly installed. This could cause the steering wheel to come loose or separate from the steering column.
- Consequence: If the steering wheel separates from the steering column while driving, the ability to steer could be lost, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: General Motors will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and make any necessary repairs on the steering wheel. These services will be provided at no charge to the customer. I've owned my Encore for a while now and have experienced a few recalls. While there are some bugs that need fixing, I was disappointed that the last recall was just a letter and not an actual recall. If my car were to quit on me, I would have to let them know by mail, which is not ideal. Although I've had some minor issues with my car, what bothers me the most is that some dealers in Colorado charge exorbitant prices without even knowing how to fix the problem. I've had better luck with outside car repair places. Overall, my Buick is doing okay, but I wouldn't say I love it. When I find a car that can get me from point A to point B without any issues, I will sell this one.

The engine may be a bit small and under-powered for this car, but overall it's a solid, quiet, and comfortable ride. It seems that many people have had the same concern, as Buick is now adding about 20 hp to the same engine.

After two months of car shopping, I ended up right where I started, and that says something about my new ride! GM agreed to buy back my 2011 Chevy Equinox because it was a lemon, and I suddenly found myself test driving everything from the Toyota Prius to the Chevy Cruze. In the end, I went with the Encore because it's a snappy little SUV with great MPG. Even though my Chevy was a lemon, GM did right by me and took care of it with little effort on my behalf.

So far, I'm really enjoying my Encore! It's the perfect size, attractive, and has plenty of power in the city. While I'm not getting the same in-town mileage as some others (23.5 mpg), I'm giving it a little break-in time. I have no complaints so far, although I have experienced the same thumping noise in the front end that another review on here mentions. However, I still highly recommend the Encore, and I get a ton of compliments on it!

I purchased this car used with 106,000 miles on it. It ran well for about three weeks, but then I noticed that the thermostat was sticking and had to be replaced. Unfortunately, there was also a hidden crack in the return to the radiator that caused the coolant level to leak down and the car to stop heating. After about six weeks, the car overheated and now I need to have the engine rebuilt. Despite these issues, I really like the style and features of this car, and the gas mileage was great while it was running. I am hoping to keep this car, but my mechanic has warned me that I may encounter more problems in the future.

Despite driving only 8,000 miles per year, the catalytic converter, water reservoir, coolant hose, and thermostat housing all failed. Additionally, the head gasket blew at 80,000 miles without any prior temperature issues. My husband also had a Buick LaCrosse that unfortunately experienced engine issues despite lasting 200,000 miles. While these experiences were frustrating, it's important to note that every car brand has its own set of issues.

The vehicle performed wonderfully during the dealer visit, but unfortunately has been a huge disappointment since taking it home. We have already exchanged the vehicle (so we're on our second one) and we really appreciate the dealership's cooperation in doing their best to make the situation right for us. However, both vehicles have the same problem, in fact the second one is worse and I wish I had kept the first one. When entering and exiting our driveway (with the steering turned left or right) which has a normal drainage dip (water canal) between the road and driveway elevation, there are thumping noises coming from the suspension. Unfortunately, as is typical, the problem could not be duplicated at the dealership. I have driven many cars on my driveway and never heard this type of noise from any other car. I owned 4 GM cars over a 20 year period through 2009, and finally gave up due to the consistent need to pour money into repairs after about 4 - 5 years of ownership. I thought things may have improved and gave it another shot, but I guess I was dead wrong. I feel terribly let down and like I made a huge mistake. It's frustrating to feel like I'm doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

I purchased this vehicle when it was 7 years old and had 'spotless' service records. It was a mini SUV type which I really liked. Unfortunately, it broke down 3 months later due to a huge coolant leak. The car overheated and almost exploded while I was driving, so I had to pull over and got stuck. Since then, I have spent thousands of dollars repairing almost every part of the coolant system. The air compressor went out, so I had no AC in 110-degree California weather. The catalytic converter also went out, and the engine stalls while trying to accelerate. There are leaks everywhere, and they keep coming back. When you run the heater, it smells like burning oil. The check engine light mysteriously comes on and off. All of this has happened despite regular maintenance and the car only having 110,000 miles. It feels like it genuinely breaks down every three months. I would not recommend buying a Buick, as it has been a huge mistake for me.

I picked up an emergency upgrade from a 2006 Scion xB on 2/7/13. As I understand it, the xB upgrade was one of the inspirations for the Encore's design. This review reflects my first impressions. So far, the only thing I dislike is the bling. All Leather Group Encores currently available come with chrome wheels that cannot be changed. This adds $1,000 to the total car price and was included by default. However, I am learning to tolerate other decorative, non-functional design elements. Despite what some may say, fake plastic hood vents are not cool.
