Nameplate history
The first use of the Dodge Avenger name was on a badge engineered version of the European Hillman Avenger, exclusive to South Africa. The same car was sold in North America as the Plymouth Cricket between 1972 and 1974. In place of the Hillman engines, this version used a Peugeot 1.6 litre engine (as also installed in locally assembled Peugeot 404s) in order to satisfy local content requirements. The Dodge-branded Avenger was introduced in 1975 and was then renamed Chrysler in 1976. This generation has nothing in common with later Dodge Avengers. After Chrysler ZA was merged into Sigma in 1976, the Avenger was soon cancelled to allow Sigma to free up more production capacity for the Mazda 323.

When considering purchasing an Avenger, it's important to trust your instincts. While reading reports can be helpful, seeing the car in person can make all the difference in making a decision. I've had my Avenger for two months now and, as with any used purchase, there were some initial issues. However, the dealer was quick to fix them. If you're interested in the car, I would encourage you to go for it. Just be aware of the blind spots when changing lanes and consider purchasing a round mirror from Walmart to help with this. Overall, I took a bit of a gamble with my purchase, but I'm very happy with my car.

Your 2008 Avenger SXT sounds like a blast to drive! Going from a Dodge Ram to an Avenger is quite a change, but it seems like the car makes the transition very easy. I wish you had a longer commute to work so you could experience even more of what the car has to offer. The MyGig entertainment system is a must-have! If you're considering the SXT model, I highly recommend getting it with the sports appearance package. The fog lamps and rear spoiler make the car look even more aggressive and appealing. It rides very smoothly and has more power and pick-up than you might expect! Everyone who has taken a ride in it seems to love it as well. Overall, it sounds like you got a great car for a great price!

I'm happy to say that I haven't had any issues with maintenance or performance, except for the brakes. The mileage is outstanding, with a normal average of 28mpg in combined city/highway settings. I bought this car for my son and myself to drive. It's been a fantastic car and gets excellent mileage. We opted for the 4-cylinder and have been completely satisfied with it. With around 10,000 miles on it, we're getting right at 30 miles per gallon, which is amazing! We get a lot of attention because it's sporty and has a beautiful Sunburst Pearl Orange color. It's a great car for the price, fun to drive, and economical.

This car has been a major disappointment. Despite its looks, both inside and out, it has proven to be unreliable and plagued with electrical problems. It is frustrating to have to constantly bring it to auto shops to diagnose and fix the issues. Unfortunately, this has resulted in a significant amount of money being spent. I strongly advise against purchasing this car, as it has been a complete waste of money and time.

The car may look nice, but unfortunately it wasn't built to last. I purchased it almost new and noticed the blind spots after a week. If you are tall, I would advise against getting the sunroof as my husband has had issues with his head hitting the roof. Additionally, the plastic interior is easily scratched, so be careful. Unfortunately, after only 4 days past my 36K mile point, the car began to fall apart. Several engine lights came on and the Dodge dealership refused to look at it without charging me $89. I had to take it to another mechanic and it has already cost me hundreds of dollars to fix. The window even fell into the door after the regulator broke, costing me $200. One of the lights also has a short and the left front brake needs resurfacing, which will cost hundreds more. Lastly, the leather on the driver's seat is crumbling off. I hope this information helps you make an informed decision.

I am confident in stating that the Avenger has not met my expectations as a commuter/family car. Despite having driven only 42000 miles, the car has been in the dealer 12 times due to various issues, including being stranded on the freeway twice. The transmission shifts poorly, the trunk leaks water when opened, and the car creaks and rattles excessively. Additionally, it is difficult to clean and maintain, and I have had to replace the front rotors twice with a third set needed. As a result, I have decided to pay it off and trade it in.

I purchased my 2008 Avenger in April 2008. Although I had high hopes for it, I have been experiencing some issues. The brakes grind, and the door and side panels make a lot of noise, which has been difficult to fix. I have also had to replace my MyGig radio multiple times due to it freezing up. The transmission can be sluggish at times, and there are some front noises when turning or going over bumps. Additionally, the AC doesn't work as well as I would like, and there are a few blind spots. The chrome plastic around the shifter inside can be distracting, and the trunk design could be improved to prevent water from getting in. Overall, I would not recommend this car. However, I did have a great experience with a brand new Avenger back in 1997, so it's possible that this is just a fluke. Please keep this in mind when making your decision.

Love the exterior look. Sorry to hear that the interior feels confined and uncomfortable, with not much leg room. It's also a shame that the car seems to eat things up if you happen to drop them. Additionally, the high floor makes for an uncomfortable sitting experience. I understand that the acceleration is not great and it feels like the car is barely handling the amount of power it takes to drive on a freeway.
