Common 2022 Genesis G80 problems
The 2022 Genesis G80 has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. One of the most serious issues is related to the powertrain, with multiple owners reporting problems such as a whining or grinding noise before the drivetrain fails, and the vehicle suddenly stalling and shutting off while driving.
Another problem reported by owners is related to the fuel system. In May 2021, there was a recall for certain 2021 Genesis G80 and GV80 vehicles equipped with 2.5-litre turbo engines due to a potential fuel leak caused by a fuel tube not sealing properly. The dealership will replace the high pressure fuel tube at no cost to the owner.
The forward collision warning system in the 2021 Genesis GV80 SUV has also been reported to have issues, with owners telling safety regulators that their vehicle would shut on and off while driving and there was instability when the vehicle hit imperfections in the roadway.
In addition to these specific issues, the 2022 Genesis G80 has received a disappointing reliability rating from some outlets, with one rating agency giving it a poor score primarily due to issues with older model years, particularly the 2019 version.
Despite these issues, the 2022 Genesis G80 remains a solid choice for luxury car customers due to its competitive pricing and high-quality features. However, potential buyers should be aware of these common problems and consider the vehicle's reliability rating before making a purchase decision.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-04-23
- VIN: KMTGB4SC7NU
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: I purchased my car in 1/2022. Starting 4/23/2022 through 10/27/2022 the CAR ALARM has activated itself approximately 100 times. Usually the key fob can stop the alarm, but several times the vehicle must be driven away or moved to stop the alarm sound. I took the car to the dealer on or about 4/12/2022 to search for the problem. After 1 week, the dealer advised it found no problem, but replaced a rear sensor and returned the car on 4/19. On 4/23/2022 the alarm problem began again. After my local Irvine, CA dealer refused to take the car back for repairs, on 5/16 I made a written complaint to Hyundai Claims. Since then, the alarm has activated without cause repeatedly. On 9/2/2022 with Claims approval, I left my car with Cerritos Genesis. On 9/15/2022, my LOANER G80 alarm activated itself without cause. On 9/23/2022 I picked up my car, after the dealer reported it found no problem. On 10/27/2022 the alarm reactivated itself twice, before I moved the car out of my hearing.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-12-26
- VIN: KMTGB4SC9NU
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: The driver seat module was defective, it was replaced & is still not working properly. It works sporadically. The navigation system freezes sporadically, the instrument display panel gives incorrect information. The Speed Limit Display indicated "34" when the heated seat feature was turned on, but the posted speed limit was 55. Information sent to the vehicle by GCC was never located, not sure if the navigation system did not receive the information. Concerned for short-circuit issues with the electrical system which may cause a fire.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,LANE DEPARTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-12-09
- VIN: KMTGB4SCXNU
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,LANE DEPARTURE
- Summary: I purchased a 2022 Genesis G80 RWD 2.5T Prestige. After driving the car for less than 500 miles I got a message on my dash board that said " Check Lane Change Assist Function" it had a picture of the road and a left and right arrow on, along with a triangle and the information icon inside it. After 20 seconds the 15.5 Navigation screen goes completely blank. The screen controls more than the Navigation. It had done this routinely everyday. We are very nervous about driving the car not knowing what else electronically could go wrong. I took it back to the dealer and they said they have no idea what is wrong. They told me that I was not the only person whom has came in to the dealership with the same issue. The dealer has no idea how to make any repairs I have pictures of the dash when both events happen if you would like them.

Great styling, great safety features, comfortable, quiet, and smooth ride. The sound system is fantastic!

I really appreciate my G80. I own the 3.5 L twin turbo model and it is a large luxurious sedan that handles like a sports car. The all-wheel-drive and the rear tires turning 4° make it move down the road at an unbelievably high rate of speed. Compared to a 735 from BMW and a 560 from Mercedes, this car was less expensive, came with more features, and a much better warranty. I highly recommend this vehicle.

This car is truly impressive! In its price category, I don't think there is a sedan that can compare in terms of beauty. It's incredibly comfortable, quiet, and a joy to drive. And with Genesis reliability, you can trust that it will perform well. While there are a few luxury features that I miss, like the ability to touch lock/unlock the rear doors, the carbon fibre trim is absolutely stunning and much more attractive than the matte wood found in many of its competitors. As someone who has owned several German cars, I can attest that even they sometimes omit important features. For example, my BMW 650, which was very expensive, had no grab handles anywhere on the inside of the vehicle. So it's not surprising that Genesis doesn't have every single luxury feature you could name. It's worth noting that the interior color scheme is a

Great car but the electronics can be confusing. Unfortunately, the latest audio update caused some issues with other features like the navigation system.
-
The car is beautiful both inside and out. It has a lot of electronic features that may take some time to learn. I opted for the cloth seats instead of leather, and while I do wish I had chosen the model with the automatic doors and six-cylinder engine, I am still quite satisfied with my purchase.

In my experience, I found this car to be quite dangerous to drive due to its slow acceleration. When I needed to quickly accelerate, the car had a terrible lag/hesitation, which made it difficult to blend into traffic. I had to pump the pedal out of desperation, which took too long and nearly caused an accident. I contacted the nearest Genesis dealership, but they were unable to see me for two months. I had to travel outside my area to another Genesis dealer who checked the car and told me that the slow acceleration issue is normal. They suggested putting it in sport mode, but the problem persisted. I had to change the way I drove the car to avoid accidents. Additionally, I found the seat to be very hard and uncomfortable, and the car rode rough and stiff. The technology was not very intuitive, and I had to have the dealership tech expert explain how to use things. It comes with two owner's manuals an inch thick each, which can be overwhelming. Despite its nice styling, I did not feel safe driving this car. In my opinion, Genesis needs to address this issue to compete with other luxury car makers.

... now down to selling only several thousand G80's a year... you'd think they would be pricing them to be putting more of 'em on the streets... so adding to pricing what amounts to 10% in 'Dealer-Fees' for items a majority of prospective buyers probably wouldn't-want-need makes little sense... answer could be the company really just has little interest in increasing sales for this model... unfortunate as it really is a great product
