Common Genesis G80 problems
The Genesis G80 is a popular luxury midsize car, but it has not been known for its overall reliability and consistency, especially compared to other midsize cars. Despite these improvements, there are still common problems reported by Genesis G80 owners.
One common issue is broken brake pads, which can be dangerous and costly to repair. Brake pads are a crucial component of a car's braking system, and when they wear down or break, it can affect the vehicle's ability to stop effectively. This can lead to accidents and costly repairs.
Another common problem is broken spark plugs, which can cause a variety of issues, including reduced engine performance, increased fuel consumption, and difficulty starting the car. Spark plugs are responsible for igniting the fuel in the engine, and when they fail, it can cause significant problems with the car's performance.
Transmission problems are also a common issue with the Genesis G80, with some owners reporting issues with shifting, slipping, and jerking. Transmission problems can be caused by a variety of factors, including low fluid levels, worn-out gears, and faulty sensors. These issues can be costly to repair, and in some cases, may require a complete transmission replacement.
Stressing failures are another problem reported by Genesis G80 owners, although the specifics of this issue are not detailed in the search results. It is possible that stressing failures could refer to issues with the car's electrical system, which can be caused by a variety of factors, including worn-out wiring, blown fuses, and faulty sensors.
Forward collision-avoidance problems are also a concern for Genesis G80 owners, with some reporting issues with the car's collision-avoidance system. This system is designed to alert drivers to potential collisions and, in some cases, apply the brakes automatically to prevent or mitigate the impact. When it fails, it can increase the risk of accidents and collisions.
In addition to these common problems, some Genesis G80 owners have reported issues with the car's side mirrors, which may not actuate for reverse or collapse when locked. This can be a frustrating issue, especially for those who use the mirrors to park in tight spaces.
Another issue reported by some Genesis G80 owners is a battery that goes dead if the car is not started daily. This can be caused by a variety of factors, including a faulty battery, a problem with the car's electrical system, or a lack of use.
In conclusion, while the Genesis G80 has improved in reliability in recent years, there are still common problems reported by owners. These issues include broken brake pads, broken spark plugs, transmission problems, stressing failures, forward collision-avoidance problems, issues with the car's side mirrors, and a battery that goes dead if the car is not started daily. It is essential to be aware of these potential issues when purchasing a used Genesis G80 and to ensure that any necessary repairs are made promptly to avoid more significant problems down the line.

Do Genesis have engine problems?
Genesis is recalling 2019-2022 G70 sedans, 2018-2020 G80 sedans, and 2017-2022 G90 sedans equipped with 3.3-liter turbocharged V6 engines because an oil leak may develop and cause a fire. 28,349 vehicles are included in the vehicle. Earlier this month, Kia recalled some vehicles for the same issue with the same engine.
How long will a Genesis G80 last?
The Genesis G80 is capable of holding up well past the 100,000-mile mark and has been tested by independent organizations to confirm its durability. Critical systems in the G80 like the engine, transmission, and brakes tend to perform without major problems well into the tens of thousands of miles driven.
What are the issues in Genesis cars?
Hyundai is recalling more than 30,000 Genesis vehicles due to a potentially deadly crash hazard with certain models, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports. Federal safety regulators published the recall Tuesday after learning the fuel pump may fail, which can result in a loss of drive power.

I had a prior year Hyundai that has the same type of switch and was having the same issues reported. A TSB was issued for that vehicle to have the multifunction switch replaced. Seeing as how these vehicles are the same exact vehicles (just under a different brand name) and are having the same issues, I'm wondering if the Genesis should be covered under the same bulletin.

- Summary: Genesis issued the recall in mid-February and there is still not a remedy. We are supposed to park our auto outside and not in the garage. As we live in Florida and it is very hot and it is hurricane season, it is intolerably hot to park outside and, in the event of a hurricane or thunderstorm with hail, we cannot park outside without risking damage to our auto. It has been nearly five months since the recall which should be sufficient time for Genesis to have a solution to the problem. Also, they are not offering any compensation for the additional hardship due to having to park outside such as having to wash the car more frequently. I will also be contacting my congressman to followup with your agency.

I'm on my second week of driving my new 2017 Genesis G80 and I must say, I'm thoroughly impressed. As someone who has been driving German cars for years, I was a bit hesitant to switch to a different brand. However, after test driving a 2016 Genesis about 6 weeks ago, I was blown away. I was looking for a car with comfortable and supportive seats, all wheel drive, and a good sound system, and the Genesis delivered on all fronts. The Lexicon Surround Sound system is fantastic - if you're not familiar with Lexicon, I highly recommend looking it up. The seats are incredibly comfortable and adjustable, and my model with the Ultimate package has so many other great features. The heads up display is crisp and clear, and the fit and finish of the car is superb. It's also incredibly quiet, which is a huge plus. Genesis has done an excellent job of making all of the controls intuitive and easy to use. Whether you prefer well-marked buttons, a touch screen interface, or the round knob, they all work together seamlessly. While I do miss the German three-pointed star on the hood, I don't miss it that much :-). Overall, this is a beautiful car that offers both quality and value. If you're in the market for a new car, I highly recommend checking out the new Genesis.

Over the last 20 years, I have owned a Mercedes and a BMW, and I must say that this car is comparable to those. Although it may not handle as well as a BMW and may be missing some of the thoughtful touches of a Mercedes, I am extremely happy with the quality, power, and comfort of this car. For the price, nothing can approach it. It is a pleasure to drive on the highway, and it is the quietest car I have ever owned. I am looking forward to many years of enjoying it. After 8 months, I have had no problems whatsoever, and I still look forward to trips in this car. After 12 months, it is still a great car.

I recently purchased a 2018 Genesis G80 and wanted to share my thoughts on it. While I had some issues with my previous 2016 Genesis, I was pleased to find that the 2018 model has most of the safety features that were previously optional, and it runs quietly without any transmission whine. The safety features, such as the Adaptive Speed Control and Blind Spot Monitoring, are impressive and have taken some getting used to. The Lane Assist feature works well in keeping you in your lane, but it can be a bit tricky when approaching an exit. Overall, I am happy with my purchase and would recommend the 2018 Genesis G80 to others. This feature is really helpful in reducing the need to turn your head to check the blind spot. However, old habits die hard and I still find myself turning to check the blind spot even when the indication on the mirror is clear. The Cross Traffic Monitor has already saved me from getting into an accident with someone who was in more of a hurry than me! The base model of this car comes with so many safety features that it would take me a long time to critique each one. Suffice it to say, they are all there for a reason and so far, they have all worked as designed. Kudos to Genesis for making them standard instead of optional. The exterior of the car has not changed much from the 2016 model and it is still a real head-turner. Mine is Casablanca White and it looks fantastic. I have received many compliments on the paint and car design. As for performance, I have the base 6 cylinder and it has more than enough power for my needs. The 6 cylinder is more than sufficient unless you plan on drag racing the car. The only minor complaints I have are about the gas mileage and the suspension. Hopefully, the gas mileage will improve after the engine break-in period. The suspension is a little stiffer than expected for a luxury car, but it's still comfortable enough. If I could, I would soften the ride a bit. The interior is on par with more expensive luxury cars. The seats are comfortable, the sound system is great, and the 8-inch display is a must-have item. The dash layout is excellent and all controls are easily reachable by the driver and positioned correctly. The A/C works as designed. I'm 6'2I'm not sure why some items on the car aren't covered for the full term warranty, but I'm happy to see that Genesis now offers different specific length extended warranties (such as a two year or five year warranty) to cover these items. I'm really glad I gave Genesis another chance; this car is a keeper!

Vehicle year: 2018
After test driving a used certified low mileage Audi A6 Premium Plus and a BMW 535i XDrive, both priced at $47K, I was feeling pretty dejected. I couldn't justify paying $72K for a properly optioned new car. However, I stumbled upon the 2018 G80 Sport which I bought new for $55.1K. It has every option I could dream up, including adaptive cruise, all known forms of safety technology, AWD, and a killer audio system. Plus, it has plenty of other options that are extra charges on the German machines. One might ask: what good are any of these things if the car isn't a pleasure to be in and drive? Well, the G80 Sport rides and handles most like the BMW 535i XDrive, which is to say it is not a sports car but a very useful and pleasant hybrid cross between sport and luxury. It is very quiet inside, even at highway speeds. Handling is quite competent and feels well planted. The ride is sufficiently isolated, but not out-of-touch or floaty. The cabin is wonderfully laid out and comfortable. Controls have a satisfying tactile feel and are well placed. The infotainment and nav systems are works of art. They are incredibly logical, aesthetically pleasing, comprehensive, and also include the Lexicon audio system which is the best I've ever listened to in a car (Harman Kardon, JBL, Bose, Mark Levinson, B&O, etc.). Am I happy? You bet! Watch out BMW and Audi. If you are *only* looking for one of these nameplates, you might be missing out on the G80 Sport.

I totally get where you're coming from! It's a bummer that the G80 with the ultimate package doesn't come with the Apple CarPlay feature, even though it's advertised as a selling point.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with the Genesis G80 Sport. This is actually my second Genesis, my first being a Hyundai Genesis which I absolutely loved. I decided to upgrade to the G80 Sport for a change and I have to say, it's been a great ride so far. Living in Illinois, I was a bit worried about how it would handle the harsh winters and potholes, but my first G80 had no issues at all. However, I did have a few tire mishaps with this one, which is why I'm so grateful that I decided to get the tire and wheel package. It definitely came in handy when I had a blowout from hitting a pothole. Thankfully, the warranty covered it and all the other tire issues I had throughout the winter. I did have some concerns about the fragility of the Continental tires that came with the car, especially since I had no issues with them in California. But I have to say, Genesis really impressed me with their customer service. They understood my concerns and replaced all four tires with Michelins, which was amazing. While the Michelins did have some performance issues on wet pavement, they held up really well in terms of blowouts and durability. The only downside was that they were a bit expensive to replace. Overall, I'm really happy with my G80 Sport and the great customer service I received from Genesis. Thanks for listening!I have a really nice and comfortable car, but it doesn't perform like a sport version of a luxury car should. The tires are staggered, which means the back tires are wider than the front ones, making it difficult to find a tire company that has both sizes I need. Staggered tires in any sport car can't be rotated, only moved from side to side, which means they wear out faster. This means that a 45,000 mile tire might only last 21,500 miles. It's frustrating to have to replace these expensive tires every 13 or 14 months. If it was a Corvette, I would know this going in and would hope I wouldn't have to replace 8 tires in the first year. But I guess replacing the tires is just part of the deal when you buy a sports car or even a sport version of a luxury car. It would have been a lot better if the Michelins performed better. My advice is to never get staggered wheels on a car without knowing that you have to replace them in half the tire rating mileage. When buying a car with low profile, performance tires, never buy the Continentals. The regular Continentals may be just fine, but the low profile tires, in the northern states, are not a good value. I'm frustrated to have an awesome car that costs $60k (not what I paid) and have the inconvenience of flat tires every 3 weeks. Thank goodness I took the warranty. I'm working with the sales manager to take what equity I have and roll it into a new G80 3.8 AWD Ultimate with matching tires. My payment will be just a little higher and I would start payments over at 60 months. I'm getting 36,000 more miles of free maintenance, fresh brakes which would be replaced in 8-10 more months, and a fresh set of 60,000 mile rated tires that can be rotated.Yes, the whole ordeal cost me some money. However, I learned a few valuable lessons which I wanted to share here on cars.com.

I recently purchased the Genesis G80 with the premium package and I must say, it's a beautifully styled car that performs exceptionally well. The luxurious cabin is incredibly comfortable and quiet, making for a truly enjoyable driving experience. What's even better is that this car costs thousands less than its competitors' equivalent vehicles. If you're looking for a car that offers great value for money, the Genesis G80 is definitely worth considering. However, if you're solely focused on the brand name, then this car may not be for you. It's important to look beyond the nameplate and consider the car's features and performance. I test drove the Audi A6 and Lexus GS 350, but ultimately, the Genesis G80 won me over. The G80 sport model, with its 6 cylinder twin turbo and 365 horses, is a beast on the road. However, I opted for the G80 with premium package, which still boasts a respectable 311 horses and a smooth ride. During my test drive, I found the pick up to be more than acceptable with good passing ability, and the car handled bumpy roads with ease. Overall, I highly recommend the Genesis G80 for anyone looking for a stylish, comfortable, and high-performing car that won't break the bank. The G80 was an absolute pleasure to drive. Despite the uneven pavement, I barely felt any bumps or jarring, which made for a smooth and comfortable ride. The cabin was impressively quiet, with minimal road noise or wind, and the engine was so quiet at times that I wasn't even sure it was running. While I did notice slightly more body lean when taking curves at higher speeds compared to the A6 or GS350, it was nothing significant. Plus, when you put the car into 'sport' mode, the steering and suspension tighten up, which helps. Although this does come at a cost of slightly poorer gas mileage, the overall experience of driving this car was luxurious and enjoyable. The roomy cabin was a particular highlight, and I appreciated the inclusion of many technology safety features that other brands often charge extra for. Despite some minor differences in performance compared to its competitors, the G80 still stood out to me as a top choice. When the sales manager worked up the price for me, I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was $4,000 - $10,000 less than the competition, which made my decision even easier. Genesis is definitely doing everything right to establish itself as a viable luxury brand, and the 3 year concierge service is just one example of their commitment to customer satisfaction. If your car needs servicing (which, by the way, is included for the first 3 years), they will even bring you a loaner and take your car, making the process as convenient as possible.

I recently purchased a 2017 car off a lease with less than 40k mileage. Unfortunately, I experienced a popping noise in the roof which the dealer tried to fix twice under warranty. Although they replaced the full roof, the noise persisted. The service manager informed me that Genesis has acknowledged the issue in a memo, but there are no recalls yet. However, the third attempt to fix the issue was successful after the manufacturer was brought in to find the fix in the frame. Despite this issue, I find the car a pleasure to drive with all its features. The driving modes are effective, and I can get almost 30 hwy. The sport mode makes this larger car very sporty. Although I find the lane departure aggressive in taking you back in the lane, it is still a great feature. Unfortunately, there is an issue with the heat not transferring to the floor, and I have to spend $1700 to repair the fuel injectors just 300 miles over the 60k warranty. Despite these issues, I still enjoy driving this car.

Hello! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my 2018 g80 sport with AWD. Unfortunately, my dealer closed about 6 months after I bought the car and there isn't another one within 60 miles. While I have valet pick up service, the nearest service dealer only has Hyundai's as loaners and they don't know how to service the G80. In fact, my tire pressure light was on when they drove it back to me after an oil change and the tech didn't know the correct tire pressure! I've also been waiting over 4 weeks now to hear back from Genesis regarding these issues. I believe that the service I've received is not up to par with what I would expect from a middle class sedan, let alone Mercedes or BMW. Thank you for listening to my experience.

I previously owned a 2015 G80 before upgrading to the 2018 model, but I must say I prefer my older car. The noise level in this luxury car is quite high, with noticeable road and undercarriage noise. Despite bringing it to the dealer's attention and even changing the tires to Michelin at my own expense, the noise level remains higher than my previous car. However, I do appreciate the other features of the car. As an 80-year-old, this will likely be my last car purchase.
