FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-04-30
- VIN: KMTGB4SC1PU
- Components: FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
- Summary: The contact owns a 2023 Genesis G80. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V282000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer was made aware of the issue. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-09-29
- VIN: KMTGB4SD5PU
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: For no reason whatsoever the front area of the sun roof has developed long cracks and I am concerned the entire sun roof may shatter above my head. No object hit or touched this sunroof at anytime
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-04-03
- VIN: KMTGE4S13PU
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: This is the same issue with the 2023 Electrified G80 Sedan and other Hyundai Group electric vehicles. When using the car in "i-Pedal" (one-pedal driving) mode — the highest brake regen setting — the car can come to a complete stop whenever I lift my foot off the accelerator pedal, without touching the brake. While in this mode, when I fully lift my foot off the accelerator, the rear brake lights illuminate as expected, however, I often slowly reduce pressure on the accelerator pedal to come gently to a stop. I've noticed that it's possible (and often the case) that I can decelerate to a full stop without the brake lights illuminating until I fully release the brake pedal (at the very last moment before I stop). This means that I can be slowing down at a pretty significant rate without any indication to the drivers behind. Conversely, when using the automatic cruise control (that keeps the car a set distance from car ahead), the brake lights seem overly active and flash on and off quite frequently, especially when going down hills (even if there is no deceleration and the car seems to be coasting). Both of these anomalies seem to aggravate other drivers following the car for different reasons, since the vehicle's intent isn't being properly communicated. The lack of expected brake lights when decelerating gently via i-Pedal mode seems potentially dangerous. I would recommend that Hyundai tune their software so that the brake lights illuminate automatically past a set threshold of deceleration/regen braking (above what would be expected if the car were simply coasting), but not requiring the driver to fully lift off the pedal, since at that point, the rate of deceleration is already uncomfortably high for typical driving.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-05-16
- VIN: KMTGE4S19PU
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Our 2023 Genesis G80 electrified has been towed three times for the 12v battery or its electrical system. We have yet to drive the Genesis once. It is a safety danger which produces toxic smells in the interior and the trunk plastic gets hot to the touch. The interior was impregnated with the smell as the car was closed. Given the symptoms, the dealership refused to drive the vehicle for service and had it towed due to safety concerns. They attempted repairs three times, finding no error codes or answers the first two times. They returned the dangerous defective vehicle twice. On the third repair attempt, they stated the battery has a short circuit that is causing it to overheat to temperatures over 166 degrees. They also found the accelerator pedal and sensor assembly was out of specifications. Both were replaced, but they have been unsuccessful in getting the smoke/burnt smell out of the vehicle. It has saturated into all of the interior surfaces. Both are extreme concerns for fire risk as well as danger when driving since the accelerator pedal was not working as it should have been.
EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-01-31
- VIN: KMTGE4S13PU
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING
- Summary: When using the I-Pedal feature the brake lights do not come on at any point when lifting off the accelerator pedal gradually. This certainly can cause the vehicle to rear ended if the following car is not paying attention. If you take your foot off the accelerator fully for full regeneration the brakes lights do come on. I was following my wife in her Genesis G80 EV and I noticed the brake lights not coming on. I did report it to both Genesis and the dealer but they did not know of any issue or could tell me when the brake lights should come on. This issue has been reported in the following article and it looks like it may be an issue with all the Hyundai Group EVs. https://apple.news/AyymCGI5gTlCa1ZeFW0jAxg
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-03-03
- VIN: KMTGA4SC8PU
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: The contact owns a 2023 Genesis G80. The contact stated that after a routine maintenance, the “Service Required” warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the local dealer who was unable to reset the warning light. The vehicle was diagnosed that the computer in the back of the radio needed to be replaced. The part was ordered but was defective. While driving the Navigation system, door locks, and radio became inoperable. The vehicle was taken back to the local dealer where the part was replaced. While driving, the battery discharged message was displayed. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer provided a loaner vehicle. The manufacturer was contacted and opened a case. The failure mileage was approximately 8,000.
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-04-14
- VIN: KMTGA4SCXPU
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: My TWO WEEK OLD 2023 Genesis G80, which has less than 1000 miles on it, lost all motive power (i.e. power to the engine) after driving for approximately four hours. We were sitting in stop-and-go-traffic on the George Washington Bridge in New York, with the engine off (because of the vehicle's auto-off function). When the car ahead of us moved, I lifted my foot off the brake pedal, pressed the gas, and the engine immediately failed to respond, sputtered, and stopped. After about a minute, we were able to restart the engine and continue driving. We drove for another approximately 1.5 hours, including a short rest stop. Then, while traveling at highway speed of ~75 MPH in the left passing lane of Interstate 84, the engine again lost all motive power. When the accelerator was depressed, there was no response. I was able to (narrowly) safely maneuver (drift) my car into the breakdown lane, and when the car finally stopped, the engine stopped entirely (it had been sputtering while coasting). After a few minutes, I was again able to get the car re-started, and we were able to drive another five minutes, before the car again lost all power, forcing us to drift off the interstate into the breakdown lane, near the beginning of an off ramp. I saw that there was a Hyundai dealer approximately a mile off the ramp, and so tried to reach the dealership. The car lost all engine power multiple time, just trying to reach that dealership. In the parking lot, we were unable to even start the engine any time in the next three hours. Most concerning, after having the car towed to a Genesis dealer, the dealership reports that the car showed NO FAULTS OR ERRORS, and they are completely in the dark as to why the car lost all power, both while stopped, and at highway speeds, and failed over and over. The lack of any reported faults or errors is both baffling and extremely worrisome. The dealer "hopes" but is unsure, that replacing the GDI fuel pump will resolve the issue.

This car is truly impressive! In its price category, I don't think there is a sedan that can compare in terms of beauty. It's incredibly comfortable, quiet, and a joy to drive. And with Genesis reliability, you can trust that it will perform well. While there are a few luxury features that I miss, like the ability to touch lock/unlock the rear doors, the carbon fibre trim is absolutely stunning and much more attractive than the matte wood found in many of its competitors. As someone who has owned several German cars, I can attest that even they sometimes omit important features. For example, my BMW 650, which was very expensive, had no grab handles anywhere on the inside of the vehicle. So it's not surprising that Genesis doesn't have every single luxury feature you could name. It's worth noting that the interior color scheme is a

Great car but the electronics can be confusing. Unfortunately, the latest audio update caused some issues with other features like the navigation system.
-
The car is beautiful both inside and out. It has a lot of electronic features that may take some time to learn. I opted for the cloth seats instead of leather, and while I do wish I had chosen the model with the automatic doors and six-cylinder engine, I am still quite satisfied with my purchase.
-
I absolutely love the car and would highly recommend it to anyone. The controls are very easy to learn and use.

I really appreciate my G80. I own the 3.5 L twin turbo model and it is a large luxurious sedan that handles like a sports car. The all-wheel-drive and the rear tires turning 4° make it move down the road at an unbelievably high rate of speed. Compared to a 735 from BMW and a 560 from Mercedes, this car was less expensive, came with more features, and a much better warranty. I highly recommend this vehicle.

In my experience, I found this car to be quite dangerous to drive due to its slow acceleration. When I needed to quickly accelerate, the car had a terrible lag/hesitation, which made it difficult to blend into traffic. I had to pump the pedal out of desperation, which took too long and nearly caused an accident. I contacted the nearest Genesis dealership, but they were unable to see me for two months. I had to travel outside my area to another Genesis dealer who checked the car and told me that the slow acceleration issue is normal. They suggested putting it in sport mode, but the problem persisted. I had to change the way I drove the car to avoid accidents. Additionally, I found the seat to be very hard and uncomfortable, and the car rode rough and stiff. The technology was not very intuitive, and I had to have the dealership tech expert explain how to use things. It comes with two owner's manuals an inch thick each, which can be overwhelming. Despite these issues, I appreciated the car's nice styling. Overall, I did not feel safe driving this car and believe that Genesis needs to address this problem. However, I appreciate the efforts of the dealership to help me with the issue.

... now down to selling only several thousand G80's a year... you'd think they would be pricing them to be putting more of 'em on the streets... so adding to pricing what amounts to 10% in 'Dealer-Fees' for items a majority of prospective buyers probably wouldn't-want-need makes little sense... answer could be the company really just has little interest in increasing sales for this model... unfortunate as it really is a great product
