Common 2017 Ford Taurus problems

Based on complaints from owners of the 2017 Ford Taurus, several common problems have been reported:

  1. Power Steering (EPAS) Failure:
Owners have experienced issues with the Electric Power-Assisted Steering (EPAS) system in the 2017 Ford Taurus. This problem can lead to difficulties in steering the vehicle, potentially compromising safety and drivability. EPAS failure may result in heavy or stiff steering, making it challenging to maneuver the car effectively. Addressing this issue may require diagnostic testing to identify the specific cause of the failure, which could be related to the EPAS motor, sensors, or wiring.
  2. Transmission Problems:
Another common complaint among 2017 Ford Taurus owners is related to transmission issues. Reports indicate that some vehicles may exhibit symptoms such as rough shifting, slipping gears, or complete transmission failure. These problems can significantly impact the car's performance and reliability. Resolving transmission problems often involves a thorough inspection of the transmission system, including the fluid levels, components, and potential wear and tear. Depending on the severity of the issue, repairs may range from minor adjustments to complete transmission replacement.
  3. Cooling System Concerns:
Owners have also raised concerns about the cooling system in the 2017 Ford Taurus. Issues such as coolant leaks, overheating, or radiator malfunctions have been reported. A malfunctioning cooling system can lead to engine overheating, which poses a serious risk of engine damage if not addressed promptly. To address cooling system problems, a comprehensive inspection of the radiator, hoses, water pump, and thermostat may be necessary. Repairs could involve fixing leaks, replacing damaged components, or flushing and refilling the cooling system to ensure proper functionality.
  4. Electrical System Malfunctions:
Some owners have reported electrical system malfunctions in the 2017 Ford Taurus. These issues may manifest as problems with the vehicle's lights, power windows, infotainment system, or other electrical components. Electrical system malfunctions can be challenging to diagnose and repair, requiring expertise in automotive electrical systems. Troubleshooting may involve checking the vehicle's fuses, wiring, connectors, and electronic control modules to identify and address the root cause of the problem.

By addressing these common problems reported by owners of the 2017 Ford Taurus, drivers can ensure the continued reliability and performance of their vehicles. Regular maintenance, timely repairs, and proactive monitoring of potential issues can help mitigate these concerns and enhance the overall ownership experience of the Ford Taurus.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2020-12-10
  • VIN: 1FAHP2E82HG

This is a known issue for Ford, and from what I have seen on the lists of Ford complaints, it looks like this is still a problem. I hope Ford will make this right and extend this warranty. Otherwise they will have a lot of unhappy customers.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2019-05-03
  • VIN: 1FAHP2F83HG
  • Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING
  • Summary: THE HEADLIGHTS ARE A FIXED POINT BEAM FOR BRIGHTS WITH SHUTTERS FOR DIMS. THE LIGHTS POINT DOWN AND TO THE RIGHT, THEY NEVER CHANGE, SO WHEN THE SHUTTERS ARE LIFTED THE BEAMS DON'T CHANGE THEY ARE STILL POINTED DOWN AND TO THE RIGHT. THE ONLY THING THAT CHANGES IS A LITTLE REFLECTED LIGHT THAT CATCHES THE REFLECTIVE ROAD SIGNS, WHICH ILLUMINATE WITHOUT MUCH LIGHT ON THEM, BUT THE ROAD AHEAD IS DARK. THE BEAMS ARE NOT POINTED DOWN ROAD, WHICH IS WHERE THEY SHOULD BE. ON BRIGHTS, THE HEADLIGHTS CAUSE THE ROAD TO GO DARK WITHIN 3 CAR LENGTHS. YOU CANNOT SEE CURVES, OBJECTS IN THE ROAD, INCLUDING DEER AND WITH RAIN IT'S EVEN WORSE. I HAVE GONE THROUGH THE PROCESS WITH FORD, THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND THE REGIONAL MANAGER, AND STILL THERE IS NO SOLUTION. THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID HE HAD NEVER HEARD OF THIS, BUT HE COULD SEE BY MY PHOTO THAT I WAS DESCRIBING THE PROBLEM CORRECTLY. HE RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM AND ANY POSSIBLE FIX, BUT WAS NOT ABLE TO DISCOVER ANYTHING, OTHER THAN HIS FORD RESOURCES SAID THERE IS NO ADJUSTMENT FOR THESE HEADLIGHTS. I HAVE INCLUDED A COPY OF THE SERVICE DOCUMENT THAT STATES THIS ALSO. THERE IS A VERTICAL ADJUSTMENT, BUT THAT DOES NOT BRING THE LIGHTS BACK ONTO THE ROAD. THE SERVICE MANAGER DID WHAT HE COULD, BUT HE WAS AT A LOSS FOR WHAT TO DO ALSO. THIS PROBLEM MAKES AN OTHERWISE GREAT CAR DANGEROUS TO DRIVE EXCEPT FOR ON WELL LIT CITY STREETS. THIS PROBLEM WAS DISCOVERED SHORTLY AFTER I PURCHASED THE CAR IN 2018. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET THIS CORRECTED SINCE THAT TIME. IT'S A CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED, PROBABLY A LEASE VEHICLE OR RENTAL, SO NOBODY CARED TO REPORT THE ISSUE SINCE IT WASN'T THEIRS. I AM AT THE END OF TRYING TO FIND A WAY TO GET THIS CORRECTED. THUS, I'M WRITING TO TELL YOU ABOUT THIS SAFETY CONCERN THAT FORD MUST BE MADE TO CORRECT.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2019-04-18

  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE
  • Summary: I WAS TRAVELLING ON A FREEWAY ~70MPH IN LEFT HAND LANE. WITHOUT WARNING THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WENT BLACK AND THE ENGINE STOPPED. THE VEHICLE STARTED TO DECELERATE AND THERE WAS NO RESPONSE FROM THE THROTTLE PEDAL. AN ORANGE BOX APPEARED ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF THE SPEEDOMETER SAYING 'TRANSMISSION NOT IN PARK'. I SIGNALED INTENTION TO PULL ONTO LEFT HAND SHOULDER BUT THERE WAS NO SOUND OR FLASHING FROM THE INDICATOR ARROW LIGHT IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. I BRAKED AND THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP. I PUT THE GEAR SELECTOR INTO 'PARK' AND DEPRESSED ENGINE START BUTTON. THE INSTRUMENT LIGHTS THEN ILLUMINATED, AND THE INDICATOR LIGHT STARTED FLASHING. I THEN DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND ENGINE START BUTTON AND THE ENGINE STARTED. ALL CHECK LIGHTS WENT OUT, ENGAGED 'D', WAITED FOR BREAK IN TRAFFIC, INDICATED AND ACCELERATED INTO LEFT HAND LANE. I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND EXPLAINED THE SITUATION AND THEY WANTED ME TO WAIT UNTIL THE PROBLEM REPEATED OR THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS TO ILLUMINATE. I TOLD THEM THAT THIS WAS A SAFETY CRITICAL PROBLEM AND THAT I WOULD NOT WAIT UNTIL THIS PROBLEM REPEATED. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY FOUND FAULT CODES - B11D8:14, U0423:82, U0415:00, U0028:08. THE FAULT CODES WERE CLEARED, AND THE DEALER DROVE THE VEHICLE FOR ~70 MILES BUT WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. ON APRIL 25, 2019, THE FORD REGIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT AS THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED, FORD MOTOR COMPANY CANNOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE AT THIS TIME. SHE STATED THAT THE VEHICLE IS SAFE TO DRIVE AND ANY ISSUE IS NOW BETWEEN MYSELF AND THE DEALER. OVERALL, THERE WAS NO ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF THE GRAVITY OF THIS ISSUE. THE FACT THAT THE PROBLEM CANNOT BE DUPLICATED SHOULD BE EVEN MORE CONCERNING WHEN, AT RANDOM, CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE CAN BE LOST. FORD MOTOR COMPANY HAS NOW WALKED AWAY FROM THIS SAFETY CRITICAL ISSUE.

Negative 2017 Ford Taurus car reviews

  1. Derek Grant 2024-09-10

The 2016 Taurus SEL has some issues that need to be addressed. The car has two gas tanks, which was not communicated to the customer by the FORD dealer. At 6,000 miles, the engine cut out at 60 mph due to a malfunctioning sensor between the tanks. Additionally, the rear doors fill with water during rain, snow, or car washes, which is a known issue since the 2010 model. Unfortunately, FORD has not fixed this issue and is not providing assistance. The car also has a constant sloshing noise and the side view mirrors do not dim at night. On the positive side, the FORD engine is great. However, due to the other issues, the car may not be suitable for everyone. It is important to consider these factors before making a purchase decision.

  2. Hector Walker 2024-05-21

  3. Monroe Rowe 2024-04-12

This model has a poor trade-in or resale value, but it is important to note that it has been discontinued.

  4. Brody Kuphal 2024-04-11

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to bring to your attention that the headlights may need some attention. They seem to be quite dim and could potentially be dangerous, especially in dark and wet conditions.

  5. Eliezer Gulgowski 2024-01-29

During the 5-day rental period, the car provided a comfortable ride and spacious trunk, as expected of an American big car. However, the electronic features were overwhelming and confusing, with displays that were too bright and keyless entry that proved to be more trouble than it was worth. Despite these issues, the car performed well on the road. Overall, while this particular model may not be the best fit for everyone, it still has its merits.
