POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2017-06-24
  • Crash: 1
  • VIN: 1FAFP53UX1A
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: TODAY, JUNE 24, 2017 AT ABOUT 1:00 PM, I WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT ON A CITY STREET, WAITING FOR THE LIGHT TO TURN GREEN, TO TURN LEFT ONTO THE STATE HIGHWAY. MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, SO I WAS NOT TOUCHING THE GAS PEDAL AT ALL. SUDDENLY, AND WITHOUT ANY WARNING, MY VEHICLE ACCELERATED WITHOUT ANY ACTION ON MY PART, AND RAPIDLY STARTED INTO THE BUSY INTERSECTION. DESPITE MY VAIN ATTEMPTS TO STOP MY VEHICLE, BY PUSHING AS HARD IS POSSIBLE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH BOTH FEET, IT DIDN'T DECREASE THE ACCELERATION AT ALL. BECAUSE THE STEERING WHEEL WOULDN'T TURN, I WASN'T ABLE TO AVOID A COLLISION. I COLLIDED WITH A VAN WHICH WAS TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AND GOING ABOUT 40 MILES PER HOUR THROUGH THE INTERSECTION ON THE GREEN LIGHT. ALTHOUGH THERE WAS EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO BOTH VEHICLES (WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF ONE OR BOTH VEHICLES BEING TOTALED), VERY FORTUNATELY, THERE WERE NO SUBSTANTIAL INJURIES TO THE WOMAN OR HER FOUR YOUNG CRYING CHILDREN IN THE OTHER VEHICLE, NOR TO ME. AFTER MORE THAN FIFTY YEARS OF DRIVING WITHOUT AN ACCIDENT, I WAS SHOCKED AND UPSET BY THIS, AND ALL THE PASSENGERS WERE TRAUMATIZED BY THE ACCIDENT. THE POLICE OFFICER DIDN'T GIVE ME A CITATION, ATTRIBUTING THE ACCIDENT TO A MECHANICAL MALFUNCTION. SEVERAL PEOPLE, INCLUDING YOUNG CHILDREN, COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN KILLED BY THIS AWFUL EXPERIENCE. THIS SHOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED, AND I HOPE YOU WILL INVESTIGATE THIS PROBLEM, SO THAT OTHER PEOPLE WON'T BE BADLY INJURED OR LOSE THEIR LIVES IN THE FUTURE. AN ADDITIONAL ITEM I SHOULD MENTION IS THAT I HAVE ALWAYS KEPT THIS VEHICLE MAINTAINED ON A REGULAR BASIS.

  • Manufacturer: FORD MOTOR COMPANY
  • Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BACK UP LIGHTS
  • Summary: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER SEDANS WITH FACTORY OR DEALER-INSTALLED DECK LID SPOILERS WITH LED CENTER HIGH MOUNTED STOP LAMPS (CHMSL). VEHICLES PRODUCED WITH SPOILERS WERE MANUFACTURED FROM MARCH 1 THROUGH OCTOBER 31, 2000; AND VEHICLES WITH SPOILERS INSTALLED BY DEALERS WERE MANUFACTURED FROM JANUARY 1 THOROUGH DECEMBER 30, 2000. WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH IN THE START OR RUN POSITIONS AND THE HAZARD WARNING LIGHTS OPERATING, THE CHMSL CAN ILLUMINATE (AT REDUCED INTENSITY) EVEN THOUGH THE SERVICE BRAKES HAVE NOT BEEN APPLIED. THIS DOES NOT MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF FMVSS NO. 108, "LAMPS, REFLECTIVE DEVICES, AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT." ALSO, IN SOME CASES THE VEHICLE BRAKE-SHIFT INTERLOCK WOULD NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY, ALLOWING THE SHIFT LEVER TO BE MOVED FROM PARK WITHOUT APPLYING THE BRAKE.
  • Consequence: UNDER THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE STANDARD, THE CHMSL SHALL BE ACTIVATED ONLY UPON APPPLICATION OF THE SERVICE BRAKES. ALSO, THE VEHICLE COULD ROLL INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH, IF THE SHIFT LEVER CAN BE SHIFTED OUT OF PARK WITHOUT DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL.
  • Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A JUMPER/RESISTOR ASSEMBLY AT THE SPOILER THAT PROVIDES AN ELECTRICAL RESISTOR TO GROUND AND CORRECTS THE CHMSL AND BRAKE-SHIFT INTERLOCK CONDITIONS. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN MARCH 19, 2001. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT FORD AT 1-800-392-3673.

  • Summary: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, PICKUP TRUCKS, AND PASSENGER VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FMVSS 225, "CHILD RESTRAINT ANCHORAGE SYSTEMS." THE AFFECTED EXPEDITION/NAVIGATOR OWNER GUIDES DO NOT IDENTIFY THE LOCATIONS OF SEATING POSITIONS EQUIPPED WITH TETHER ANCHORAGES, AND DO NOT PROVIDE INSTRUCTIONS FOR SECURING CHILD SEATS TO THESE TETHER ANCHORAGES. THE F150 SC OWNER GUIDES DO NOT PROVIDE THE PROCEDURE FOR SECURING CHILD SEATS TO THE TETHER ANCHORAGES. THE TAURUS/SABLE OWNER GUIDES DO NOT IDENTIFY THE CENTER REAR SEATING POSITION AS HAVING LATCH COMPATIBLE LOWER ANCHORAGES.
  • Consequence: IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH, THE CHILD SEAT MAY NOT BE PROPERLY ATTACHED INCREASING THE RISK OF INJURY TO THE CHILD.
  • Remedy: OWNERS WILL BE PROVIDED WITH OWNER GUIDE INSERTS REVISED TO PROVIDE THE REQUIRED INFORMATION, AND INSTRUCTIONS FOR AFFIXING THESE INSERTS TO THEIR OWNER GUIDES. CUSTOMERS WILL ALSO BE ADVISED THAT IF THEY PREFER, THEIR DEALER WILL AFFIX THE INSERTS TO THEIR OWNER GUIDES.

  • Summary: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. THE CHILD SAFETY SEAT ANCHOR LATCH (ISO-FIX ANCHOR) FASTENERS DO NOT HAVE ADEQUATE RESIDUAL TORQUE. THE ANCHORS ARE SECURED TO THE FLOOR PAN WITH A REINFORCEMENT PLATE THAT HAS TWO STUDS THAT EXTEND UPWARD THROUGH THE FLOOR PAN AND THE ISO-FIX ANCHOR. THE SEALER ON THE FLOOR PAN COULD CAUSE A SOFT JOINT AND, EVEN IF THE NUTS ARE PROPERLY TORQUED, ROAD VIBRATIONS COULD CAUSE THE NUT TO WORK ITS WAY COMPLETELY OFF THE STUD.
  • Consequence: THE ANCHOR MAY NOT HOLD THE CHILD SAFETY SEAT IN POSITION DURING AN ACCIDENT, INCREASING THE RISK OF INJURY TO THE OCCUPANT OF THE CHILD SAFETY SEAT.
  • Remedy: DEALERS WILL REMOVE AND RE-INSTALL THE BRACKET NUT USING A TORQUE RETENTION MATERIAL (RED LOCTITE). OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN SEPTEMBER 11, 2000. Negative 2001 Ford Taurus car reviews

  1. Barney Cruickshank 2024-11-28

The car was running fine for about six months, but unfortunately, it started to fall apart. On three separate occasions, it left me stranded on the highway without any warning. Although the dealer had the car for up to two weeks each time, the computer showed no problems. Eventually, they replaced the fuel pump, and this year, they had to replace the rear brake system (which may be due to its former life as a rental). Unfortunately, in the past month, the car died again without any warning. The diagnostics didn't explain the stall, but some faulty sensors needed to be replaced. It's a mystery that continues to baffle me. I don't blame the dealer; it's just a bad product. Quality issues and too many cars in the market explain the poor resale value. I grew up in a Ford family and have purchased four so far, but this will be my last one.

I purchased this car as my first vehicle approximately 3 and a half years ago. Unfortunately, after I finished paying it off, it began experiencing a series of major issues. While I enjoyed driving it when it was functioning properly, it was all too frequent that it wasn't. Despite keeping up with regular maintenance, the car was simply a lemon. I wouldn't even suggest this car to my adversaries, as I'm not that unkind.

  3. Marco Pfannerstill 2024-11-18

The car is performing at a lower fuel efficiency rate than expected, despite the absence of mountainous terrain. However, it has passed all inspections and the only potential issue is with the power steering.

We bought a brand-new Liquid Grey 2002 Taurus SEL Premium with every option (except the rear spoiler). Based on the reviews I've read online, it seems that people who choose to buy the SEL are more satisfied than those who purchase a lower model Taurus. I'm approaching 12,000 miles and I'm still thrilled with the safety, interior design, comfort and elegance of the 'bull'. The Mach audio system is definitely a good choice (compared to the standard audio setup in the Taurus).

While we have had some issues with our 2000 Ford Taurus, we have been very satisfied with our Toyota Sienna. We believe that foreign cars tend to be more reliable, but we are open to considering American cars in the future.

Positive 2001 Ford Taurus car reviews

  1. Ben Kassulke 2024-11-09

This vehicle holds up very well in accidents as I have found out. I was the middle car of a 5 car pile up and my car had the least damage, only front and rear bumpers with bumper covers and other minor damage. The car runs very well and it's built well.

  2. Willis Berge 2024-11-07

Leased this new in May/01. I had to replace the brakes at 28,000 miles and the rear door panel separated from the door at 7800 miles. However, I have maintained and serviced the vehicle as recommended. Despite these issues, I have not had any major complaints with the vehicle. Overall, this has been one of the better investments in a vehicle that I've made.

  3. Owen Considine 2024-11-04

I purchased my 2001 Taurus used in 2004 and for a year now I have had no major problems with my car. It's been a very quiet and safe ride. I do a lot of traveling and I give it three thumbs up!

  4. Sherwood Treutel 2024-10-28

I've owned my Taurus for almost 5 years now. I purchased it brand new with only 3 miles on the odometer. Since the day I drove it off the lot, I haven't had a single issue with it, aside from the usual brake and oil changes, and tire replacements (I also recommend upgrading to higher quality tires, as it significantly improves the ride quality). However, I have noticed a strange rattle noise coming from what I believe to be my windshield (right where the dash meets the windshield), and unfortunately, no one has been able to identify the source of the issue. Despite this, I absolutely adore this car, and my brother recently purchased a Ford 500. I'm so satisfied with my Taurus that I plan on buying another one (especially since mine has already clocked in 251,000 miles). I would highly recommend this car to anyone looking for a reliable and enjoyable driving experience.

Great car for the price! I'm really happy with my purchase. Ford did an excellent job with this model.
