The Isuzu Axiom is a mid-size SUV introduced by Isuzu in 2001 for the 2002 model year. The Axiom is derived from the Isuzu Rodeo and was intended to be Isuzu's response to the popularity of car-based SUVs, such as the Toyota Highlander, replacing the Trooper as Isuzu's flagship vehicle in the United States.
Exclusively sold in the United States and Costa Rica, the Axiom was built alongside the Rodeo in Lafayette, Indiana, at Subaru Isuzu Automotive, Inc. The peculiar styling and truck-based platform was poorly received in the marketplace. The Axiom was discontinued and replaced by the Chevrolet TrailBlazer-derived Isuzu Ascender in 2004, leading to Isuzu's withdrawal from manufacturing and selling passenger vehicles in North America in 2009.
The Axiom had two trim levels: the base and the up-level XS. The XS trim had features like fog lamps, a sunroof, heated front seats, an auto-dimming mirror with Homelink, 12-speaker premium audio, and leather upholstery.
The name "Axiom" was determined by a naming contest held by Isuzu and won by Dr. Hakan Urey from Redmond, Washington, who suggested the name and won his own Axiom in 2001. The word means an established, accepted, or self-evidently true statement or proposition.
The Axiom is available with a Torque-On-Demand four-wheel drive system, a direct-injection 6VE1-DI V6 engine and an Aisin Warner AW30-40LS automatic transmission was added in 2004, boosting power from 230 to 250 hp (172 to 186 kW). A new chrome bar grille and liftgate chrome that stretched tail light to tail light was also added.
The Axiom was discontinued in July 2004, and the Lafayette plant was retooled to build the Subaru B9 Tribeca. With the retirement of the Rodeo and Axiom, Isuzu, which once sold a complete line of cars, trucks and SUVs, no longer offered any Japanese-built consumer vehicles in the United States (from 2006–2009, the lineup consisted only of rebadged General Motors vehicles).
In 2013, a recall was issued for the Isuzu Axiom for frames with severe rust issues, NHTSA Campaign Number 13V547000. Similar related vehicles, 1998–2002 Isuzu Rodeo and Honda Passport NHTSA Recall Campaign Number 10V436000, and Isuzu Amigo in 2012, Campaign Number 12V306000.
The Axiom is a slightly diluted production version of the 1999 Isuzu ZXS concept that debuted at the 1999 Tokyo Motor Show. Isuzu also built 3 Axiom concepts: the 2001 Axiom XSF, 2002 Axiom XSR, and 2003 Axiom XST.
Chinese manufacturer Great Wall later copied the design of the Axiom for their Great Wall Haval/Hover SUV, albeit with a minor restyling of the body.
The 2001 movie Spy Kids and its 2002 sequel featured an Isuzu Axiom as part of a promotion, even having a lenticular poster and an RC car made by RadioShack.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED REGARDING THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 127,000.

I have to say, I'm quite particular about my ride, but I absolutely love this vehicle. It caught my eye right away, and even though I looked around the lot, I kept coming back to it. When I finally peeked inside, I felt like a kid again! The interior is just so sweet. I knew within two minutes of my test drive that I was hooked. This SUV is truly unique, and I get loads of compliments on it. I was previously interested in the Scion lineup and the Element, but this vehicle is so me. The engine sounds like a tuned-up car in power drive, which makes it super fun to drive. Of course, like any SUV, it's not perfect - the passenger doors could open a bit wider, the ride can be a bit wobbly in comfort mode, and the steering requires a bit more muscle around turns. But let's be honest, there's no such thing as a perfect SUV. This one comes pretty close though!

This SUV is truly amazing! The alternate transmission and suspension options make it so much fun to drive. You can feel like you're driving an X5 or a Landcruiser. I've driven both and neither have anything on the Axiom. The two-tone leather seats are extremely stylish and comfortable. I've put about 16,000 miles on it so far without any problems. My average gas mileage is 18MPG, which is great for an SUV. On trips, I get 20MPG. It's quiet, smooth, and yet powerful. The looks are unbelievable and the drive is luxurious. You should definitely get one as soon as you can. I've had it for 6 months and have only seen 1 other one. Another unexpected perk!

This car is truly amazing! The power is smooth and awesome, and the handling is great. When the dual induction kicks in at 3800 RPM, it feels like a shot of Nitrous! It drives like a sports car, giving you a total in-control feeling all the time. I've just turned 7500 miles, and I'm confident that the next 112,500 miles of the warranty period will be just as trouble-free. The tan cloth interior is beautiful, and the instrumentation is great. I usually drive in Sport mode, but the Soft ride on the highway is almost Lincoln-like. I asked my Lady Friend if she had anything to add, and she said, 'It's just a cool car, that's all.'

My fiance and I were searching for an SUV that could handle the weather in MN, and we had the Jeep Grand Cherokee in mind. During our search, we test drove the Grand Cherokee, as well as a few other options such as the Explorer, Liberty, Xterra, and Axiom for comparison. While we enjoyed the Grand Cherokee and Xterra, we found that the Axiom was the perfect fit for us!

I can't believe how great the Axiom is! I love the way it looks and when I test drove one, I was sold. It has a great handle and is definitely well worth the money. The only improvement I can think of is the radio, unfortunately it can't be upgraded. Additionally, the A/C control is mixed in with the radio.

This SUV is unique, which sets it apart from others. However, I must say that I am tired of reading about how great it handles like a car. On the other hand, this toaster, which was mistakenly named 'Axiom', sways on the road even with the slightest gust. Nonetheless, it does a good job of pulling my boat. Unfortunately, my boat is easier to drive in a straight line. If you don't let it warm up, it hesitates and even backfires. Maybe I got a dud, who knows. My suggestion would be to consider a different manufacturer.

02 Axiom with 85K miles. We live in central MA and my wife has taken great care of the car. Unfortunately, we recently discovered that the Rear Trailing Arm/Stabilizer has rusted off the frame. It's important to note that this is a known issue with this model, as well as the Rodeo and Honda Passport, so it's recommended that you thoroughly inspect the frame for rust before making a purchase.
