2021 Ford Mustang problems

The Ford Mustang is a series of American automobiles manufactured by Ford. In continuous production since 1964, the Mustang is currently the longest-produced Ford car nameplate. Currently in its seventh generation, it is the fifth-best selling Ford car nameplate. The namesake of the "pony car" automobile segment, the Mustang was developed as a highly styled line of sporty coupes and convertibles derived from existing model lines, initially distinguished by "long hood, short deck" proportions.

Originally predicted to sell 100,000 vehicles yearly, the 1965 Mustang became the most successful vehicle launch since the 1927 Model A. Introduced on April 17, 1964 (16 days after the Plymouth Barracuda), over 400,000 units were sold in its first year; the one-millionth Mustang was sold within two years of its launch. In August 2018, Ford produced the 10-millionth Mustang; matching the first 1965 Mustang, the vehicle was a 2019 Wimbledon White convertible with a V8 engine.

The success of the Mustang launch led to multiple competitors from other American manufacturers, including the Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird (1967), AMC Javelin (1968), and Dodge Challenger (1970). It also competed with the Plymouth Barracuda, which was launched around the same time. The Mustang also had an effect on designs of coupes worldwide, leading to the marketing of the Toyota Celica and Ford Capri in the United States (the latter, by Lincoln-Mercury). The Mercury Cougar was launched in 1967 as a unique-bodied higher-trim alternative to the Mustang; during the 1970s, it included more features and was marketed as a personal luxury car.

From 1965 until 2004, the Mustang shared chassis commonality with other Ford model lines, staying rear-wheel-drive throughout its production. From 1965 to 1973, the Mustang was derived from the 1960 Ford Falcon compact. From 1974 until 1978, the Mustang (denoted Mustang II) was a longer-wheelbase version of the Ford Pinto. From 1979 until 2004, the Mustang shared its Fox platform chassis with 14 other Ford vehicles (becoming the final one to use the Fox architecture). Since 2005, Ford has produced two generations of the Mustang, each using a distinct platform unique to the model line.

Through its production, multiple nameplates have been associated with the Ford Mustang series, including GT, Mach 1, Boss 302/429, Cobra (separate from Shelby Cobra), and Bullitt, along with "5.0" fender badging (denoting 4.9 L OHV or 5.0 L DOHC V8 engines).

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-10-18
  • VIN: 1FATP8UH6M5
  • Components: POWER TRAIN
  • Summary: At idle the engine idles roughly and rotates randomly at speeds from 300 to 900 RPM. When starting from a stop such as a traffic light or when pulling onto a roadway hesitation is often noted and on several occasions this has resulted in near accidents as the vehicle won't proceed as required to move through an intersection.

SUSPENSION PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-03-18
  • VIN: 1FA6P8CF5M5
  • Components: SUSPENSION
  • Summary: I had to put 3 sets of tires on my car by 50,000 miles. The Ford company told me to go to an alignment specialist because without putting some sort of aftermarket part on my car they can't properly align it and they are tired of fooling with it. I had taken my car for a regular 25,000 mile service, and my tires were so bad that the Ford company would not allow me to leave without rotating the tires. They told me that new tires are soft and not good quality really, they are for selling the car so they are soft rubber. They also told me i had to drive fast because its a muscle car and it would squatt upon going fast making the tires contact the road more even. After getting new, more premium tires and driving another 25,000 miles and the same thing happened at my 50,000 mile service, I started investigating and other year models have this same problem (years 15-23). I am in a situation where I have to put aftermarket parts on my car and potentially void my warranties and pay out of my own pocket. I have had an alignment 4 times and they say it is within specs but at the same time they say I do not have any camber adjustment left to prevent this problem. Ford makes an adjustable cam plate that is 410$ and another 480$ labor plus tax is almost a thousand dollars. Plus another realignment. This is not fair for a new car. I had to research myself and it was most definitely a safety concern. If I hadn't went right on time, I could have had a blow out. My tires have been properly rotated, and not driven in some bad way. It is also an environmental problem because I am throwing away perfectly good tires that are worn thru on the insides

WHEELS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-06-21
  • VIN: 1FA6P8TH6M5
  • Components: WHEELS
  • Summary: After owning the car for 3 years and putting a little under 50K miles on the vehicle, I have had to change my tires twice now because the inner tread would go bald after 20k miles or so. I had to alignment checked and the dealership said it was within spec. I have kept up with the tire rotations as well and the suspension and shocks are working as well. I believe the problem is that the camber/toe in and toe out specs are too wide that it allows for the tires to wear unevenly.

Negative 2021 Ford Mustang car reviews

  1. Lisandro Kuphal 2024-10-15

I recently purchased a new manual GT Premium. While I could tolerate the glitchy electronics and the plastic interior, I found the manual transmission to be extremely harsh and vague. According to Ford, this is normal, but I am not alone in my dissatisfaction. Other customers have also expressed their concerns, as seen in this article: https://driving.ca/auto-news/news/shift-for-brains-mustang-owners-sue-ford-over-transmission-issue. Ultimately, I decided to sell the car and switch to a Dodge Scat Pack, which has left me much happier. I don't think I'll be buying a Ford again!

  2. Lionel Schuster 2024-02-27

The Mach1 didn't feel as responsive as my wife's 2016 SRT392 Dodge Charger. When I hit the throttle, it seemed a bit hesitant to go.

Positive 2021 Ford Mustang car reviews

  1. Francis Volkman 2025-01-08

So far, I absolutely love everything about it! One year later and I still adore the car, but I can't help dreaming of the Mach 1.

Who says you can't have fun with an automatic? I've experienced both sides of the equation, and I must say that the automatic is more engaging due to the various drive modes available. Sport plus and track mode bring out the Hyde part of Jekyll, and the active exhaust is a must-have. The digital display is eye candy, and the B and O sound system is music to your ears. The performance pack is much more refined than the 2015-17 models. The car feels planted all the time, and there is no axle hop on hard acceleration. On the other hand, in normal mode and with the exhaust set to quiet mode, the car turns into a cruiser. I love the many personalities of this car, just like me. Pick one and have fun! Update March 23, 2022: Still having fun and getting ready to take a road trip, the first one. I'm surprised that all 5.0 Automatics don't come with all the drive modes. Just be careful and make sure you get a premium model to get the drive modes. It's worth the extra money because you get a better interior. I'm amazed that people complain about the back seat. This should be known when you buy the car. The back seat is there only for small personal items and not people. Carrying people around in the back seat is not what this car is about. The power for this vehicle is excellent. I've been asked about modes, but I'm good with where I am. I considered a supercharger, but it's not necessary, and I don't think it would add to the value or experience of what I'm getting. $8000 for 1.5 seconds and a voided or shortened warranty is not a good value. I had straight pipes to replace the resonator, and the sound was epic. I eventually installed a Ford Performance X pipe to keep the car stock and within warranty. The X pipe is not as much fun. I highly recommend the active exhaust because it controlled the straight pipes very well. I still was able to quieten the car down when needed. Straight pipes are more fun; I may install them again. One other thing, the paint quality could be better to resist chipping.Panel fitment is about an 8 out of ten. The interior is a 10. With the digital display, there are more leather appointments that give more comfort. The Shaker Pro system has better mids and highs. The B&O is base heavy, and I find myself adjusting the bass down. The balance could be better. As stated, the Shaker Pro in the 15-17 was perfect.

Firstly, I have the GT Premium convertible (there was no option for that on the drop-down menu). This car has met and exceeded all of my expectations. The handling is great, the power is amazing, and the exhaust options are really sweet! I love how accessible all the controls are and how functional and easy to use the tech is. This car rides very smoothly yet has the unmistakable feel of a sports car. The seats are very comfortable and offer great options for adjustments. I also love the ambient lighting options! Now, let's talk about the power. With a total of 460 horses under the hood, it gives all the power one could want (very tempting to race!). The car is solid and well-built, and all the controls are easily reached and operated. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with this car!

I've been the proud owner of the 2021 Mach 1 Fight Jet Gray model with the performance package for a year and a half now, and it has not disappointed me. I use it as my daily driver, and the handling, along with the 6-speed 'Tremec' manual transmission (i.e. GT350), makes my drive to work very enjoyable. The ride home is even better! The only issue I've had so far is with the Ford 'Sync' system freezing up with the GPS, but the article is correct about the technology. Ford, if you're reading this, I've already stopped by the dealership twice with the same problem. Note that this issue still hasn't been fixed. Overall, what can I say? It's fast! The 'Recaro' seats wrap around you like a glove, and the downforce effects from the GT350/500 keep you sticking to the pavement around the sharpest curves. Yep, that's that liquid metal stuff in the suspension.

Driving my 2021 Ford Mustang GT/CS has been a great experience! However, I have noticed that the trunk and hood are not aligned properly, and the rear windows are not rolling up smoothly. I have to manually align them with the front door windows to prevent any water leakage. Despite these minor issues, I still love my Mustang, especially since it only has 10,000 miles on it!
