The Ford Mustang is a series of American automobiles manufactured by Ford. In continuous production since 1964, the Mustang is currently the longest-produced Ford car nameplate. Currently in its seventh generation, it is the fifth-best selling Ford car nameplate. The namesake of the "pony car" automobile segment, the Mustang was developed as a highly styled line of sporty coupes and convertibles derived from existing model lines, initially distinguished by "long hood, short deck" proportions.

Originally predicted to sell 100,000 vehicles yearly, the 1965 Mustang became the most successful vehicle launch since the 1927 Model A. Introduced on April 17, 1964 (16 days after the Plymouth Barracuda), over 400,000 units were sold in its first year; the one-millionth Mustang was sold within two years of its launch. In August 2018, Ford produced the 10-millionth Mustang; matching the first 1965 Mustang, the vehicle was a 2019 Wimbledon White convertible with a V8 engine.

The success of the Mustang launch led to multiple competitors from other American manufacturers, including the Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird (1967), AMC Javelin (1968), and Dodge Challenger (1970). It also competed with the Plymouth Barracuda, which was launched around the same time. The Mustang also had an effect on designs of coupes worldwide, leading to the marketing of the Toyota Celica and Ford Capri in the United States (the latter, by Lincoln-Mercury). The Mercury Cougar was launched in 1967 as a unique-bodied higher-trim alternative to the Mustang; during the 1970s, it included more features and was marketed as a personal luxury car.

From 1965 until 2004, the Mustang shared chassis commonality with other Ford model lines, staying rear-wheel-drive throughout its production. From 1965 to 1973, the Mustang was derived from the 1960 Ford Falcon compact. From 1974 until 1978, the Mustang (denoted Mustang II) was a longer-wheelbase version of the Ford Pinto. From 1979 until 2004, the Mustang shared its Fox platform chassis with 14 other Ford vehicles (becoming the final one to use the Fox architecture). Since 2005, Ford has produced two generations of the Mustang, each using a distinct platform unique to the model line.

Through its production, multiple nameplates have been associated with the Ford Mustang series, including GT, Mach 1, Boss 302/429, Cobra (separate from Shelby Cobra), and Bullitt, along with "5.0" fender badging (denoting 4.9 L OHV or 5.0 L DOHC V8 engines).

Common 2019 Ford Mustang problems

The 2019 Ford Mustang has been reported to have several common problems, including issues with windows rolling down slowly, a frozen rearview camera, and transmission causing the engine to rev high while shifting.

The most widespread complaint is the windows rolling down slowly, which is caused by a window regulator that is either damaged or out of alignment. Replacing the window regulator costs around $550, depending on local labor rates.

Another problem mentioned by some 2019 Mustang owners is a frozen rearview camera, which usually occurs around 2,000 miles. There are software updates available for the rearview camera and stereo system that improve its reliability, and most dealerships will install these updates for free, while some charge around $50 for labor.

The transmission causing the engine to rev high while shifting has also been reported on some Mustang models. There are transmission control module software updates that improve the performance and reliability of gear changes, and most of the time these updates are installed for free during normal servicing, but some dealers charge around $100.

In addition to these issues, there are three recalls on the 2019 Ford Mustang, including the powertrain control module, instrument cluster, and out of park warning message. Ford will fix these issues for free on affected models.

Overall, the 2019 Ford Mustang is expected to last around 200,000 miles with some minor window and rearview camera issues reported. Regular annual maintenance costs are similar to other sports cars on the market, at $658 per year.

Negative 2019 Ford Mustang car reviews

  1. Jamir Reichert 2025-01-09

I recently rented a 2019 turbo 4 convertible with a performance package and was impressed by the car's build quality and ergonomics. Despite being a little older, I found getting in and out of the car surprisingly easy. The turbo four engine provides a nice, strong performance with decent throttle response, and the engine and exhaust sound is appropriate for this type of car. However, if I were to buy one, I would definitely spend the extra money for the more powerful 5.0 engine. On the downside, the suspension is a little too bouncy and firm at the same time, and the 10-speed transmission is not great, with unrefined shifts at low speeds. Despite these issues, I still found the car to be a pleasant ride with a lot of bang for the buck. Although it's not the car for me, I'm sure others would enjoy it, especially with the 5.0 engine. For reference, the car I currently own and drive is a BMW 435IX that has been tuned and slightly modified.

  2. Hank Yundt 2024-09-08

I purchased a 2019 Echo Boost from Mountain View Ford in Chattanooga. Although I was happy to get it, I have had to go to the dealership with problems. On the day of purchase, they did not wash it until after I purchased it (despite it being filthy). When they finally washed it, I noticed cracks in the trunk panel, which they fixed a week later. Upon getting it home, I noticed surface scratches in the clearcoat all over the car, which they buffed out with little success. I also noticed that the trim in the back seat keeps popping out and today I noticed that one of my headlights is not lining up like it should. I tried to fix it, but I will have to take the front clip off to do so. Therefore, I suggest looking at every square inch of the car before buying. A new car should look like a new car, not one that has to be repaired in the first month.

  3. Isadore Watsica 2024-09-03

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share that I purchased my Mustang last summer for around 40k. It's such a blast to drive - it's super loud, fast, and fun! However, I did notice that the engine and transmission started making a ticking noise at around 6k miles. When I brought it to the dealer, they said it's normal. Have you experienced anything similar with your Mustang?

  4. Jean Little 2024-06-23

I purchased my ecoboost in May 2019. However, when the weather turned cold, I noticed that my windshield was freezing from the inside.

  5. Orlando Kiehn 2024-01-24

I preferred my old 09 before it was involved in a hit and run. Unfortunately, the 2019 model I got at 12k miles has been disappointing. Even with 200k miles, the 09 ran better and faster. The windows are malfunctioning and won't stop going back and forth. It's my first stick shift car, but my dad's old Ford ranger shifts better. For a price of 26 grand, you'd expect a good car, but unfortunately, they don't make them like they used to. It seems like they're just trying to get the cars out as fast as possible. Adding anything to the fuse box is a challenge, and I can't install lighting kits or music unless I pay the Ford dealership to install it or find the part myself. They even sold me the car with deflated tires, and when I went for an oil change, the tires were still at 25 instead of 51. The dealership is not doing their job and trying to wear and tear the vehicle. The engine is below sub-par, and it's definitely not 310 hp 340 lbs of torque. If that's the case, my 09 mustang must have hellcat stats. This vehicle is being marketed as something it's not. Other than looking sharp, it's a terrible build. I could build a better car with what's in my Dewalt bag.

Car runs great, rides great, and looks great! What else is there?

The Bullitt Mustang is such a pleasure to drive! The exhaust note is like music to your ears and the 480 hp is sure to get your heart racing. Plus, it boasts a high quality (GT Premium) interior and MagneRide suspension. And how cool is that retro 'cue ball' shifter knob? Although, it can make your palm a bit sweaty. Oh, and for all you golfers out there, you'll be happy to know that the trunk is 50% bigger than the Camaro's!

Love my mustang! It's impressively well-built, very fast, and a lot of fun. The ten-speed transmission is a jewel. I've already put 20k miles on it and haven't had any problems. If you're looking for a daily commuter, I wouldn't recommend the four-cylinder option.

I've been driving my Ecoboost for a bit over a year now, and I have mostly good things to say. It's an extremely comfortable car that looks amazing for the price and drives fantastically. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise, the Ecoboost is fast. While it may not be V8 fast, it's still a great option for those looking for a car that can go from 0-60 in 5.2 seconds. Now, while it's a great car, it does have some drawbacks. The biggest downside, in my opinion, is that the interior rattles like crazy and at random. Some days it's silent, but in a year I've found over 10 different rattles in the cabin, which can be really annoying when taking longer trips. Another downside is the motor's propensity to have problems. Currently, at about 38k miles, I'm having a new motor put in under warranty. However, if you can get one with lots of warranty left, I say go for it! Otherwise, you may want to consider a competitor.

Most Ford Dealers in Tennessee are selling the Bullit at or above MSRP. However, I was able to locate the Dark Highland Green Metallic Bullitt at a limited number of dealers in Tennessee. I was looking for a specific Bullitt with certain options and found a few dealers who had them. I sent an inquiry through Edmonds website and received the most responses from Ford Dealers. The replies to my inquiry were extremely fast and efficient. With Edmonds' help, I was able to buy a 2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt. Thank you, Edmonds, for your help with my Bullitt journey!
