2001 Ford Mustang problems
The Ford Mustang is a series of American automobiles manufactured by Ford. In continuous production since 1964, the Mustang is currently the longest-produced Ford car nameplate. Currently in its seventh generation, it is the fifth-best selling Ford car nameplate. The namesake of the "pony car" automobile segment, the Mustang was developed as a highly styled line of sporty coupes and convertibles derived from existing model lines, initially distinguished by "long hood, short deck" proportions.
Originally predicted to sell 100,000 vehicles yearly, the 1965 Mustang became the most successful vehicle launch since the 1927 Model A. Introduced on April 17, 1964 (16 days after the Plymouth Barracuda), over 400,000 units were sold in its first year; the one-millionth Mustang was sold within two years of its launch. In August 2018, Ford produced the 10-millionth Mustang; matching the first 1965 Mustang, the vehicle was a 2019 Wimbledon White convertible with a V8 engine.
The success of the Mustang launch led to multiple competitors from other American manufacturers, including the Chevrolet Camaro and Pontiac Firebird (1967), AMC Javelin (1968), and Dodge Challenger (1970). It also competed with the Plymouth Barracuda, which was launched around the same time. The Mustang also had an effect on designs of coupes worldwide, leading to the marketing of the Toyota Celica and Ford Capri in the United States (the latter, by Lincoln-Mercury). The Mercury Cougar was launched in 1967 as a unique-bodied higher-trim alternative to the Mustang; during the 1970s, it included more features and was marketed as a personal luxury car.
From 1965 until 2004, the Mustang shared chassis commonality with other Ford model lines, staying rear-wheel-drive throughout its production. From 1965 to 1973, the Mustang was derived from the 1960 Ford Falcon compact. From 1974 until 1978, the Mustang (denoted Mustang II) was a longer-wheelbase version of the Ford Pinto. From 1979 until 2004, the Mustang shared its Fox platform chassis with 14 other Ford vehicles (becoming the final one to use the Fox architecture). Since 2005, Ford has produced two generations of the Mustang, each using a distinct platform unique to the model line.
Through its production, multiple nameplates have been associated with the Ford Mustang series, including GT, Mach 1, Boss 302/429, Cobra (separate from Shelby Cobra), and Bullitt, along with "5.0" fender badging (denoting 4.9 L OHV or 5.0 L DOHC V8 engines).

Common 2001 Ford Mustang problems
The 2001 Ford Mustang has been known to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. These problems can lead to engine failure or overheating, which can be dangerous while driving.
Another common problem with the 2001 Ford Mustang is related to the visibility of the vehicle. Some vehicles may exhibit inoperative door glass due to the window regulator rear track roller breaking off of the window stud. This can make it difficult to see out of the windows and can be a safety hazard while driving.
The parking brake control assembly has also been a subject of modification, with a recall issued for the parking brake control assembly modification. This issue can affect the effectiveness of the parking brake and could potentially lead to the vehicle rolling away if not properly secured.
There have also been reports of issues with the engine and engine cooling system, specifically with the engine service cylinder head gasket for 4.6L applications and the engine-gear driven synchronizers-incorrect installation-camshaft position synchronizer (CMP) installation tool. These issues can affect the performance and reliability of the engine and can lead to costly repairs.
Additionally, there have been reports of condensation and/or water accumulation in the headlamp assembly, which can affect the visibility of the vehicle while driving, especially at night or in poor weather conditions.
While there have been recalls and complaints related to these issues, it is important to note that not all 2001 Ford Mustangs will experience these problems. Regular maintenance and inspections can help identify and address these issues before they become major problems. If you are considering purchasing a 2001 Ford Mustang, it is recommended to have the vehicle inspected by a qualified mechanic to identify any potential issues.

Congratulations on your new car! It sounds like you're having a blast driving it, even with the occasional speeding ticket. While the interior fit and finish may not be perfect, the Mach stereo system is a real standout feature that helps drown out any outside noise. And with the V8 engine, you're definitely getting plenty of power. It's good to know that the 6 cylinder version may not be worth the investment, so thanks for the heads up. And don't forget to budget for a quality radar detector to make the most of your driving experience!
-
The car is an absolute blast to drive! It has tons of power and great handling, and it turns heads wherever it goes. Plus, I've never had a single mechanical problem with it.
-
Outstanding high performance car for the money. Comparing to the other sports cars on the market, everything is either underpowered or overpriced for the product being purchased. The Ford Mustang GT is by far the most bang for the buck. I have been thoroughly impressed with the car!
-
This vehicle is both fun to drive and reliable. The only downside is that it's a bit of a guzzler when it comes to gas mileage.
-
I really like this car! I commute over an hour each way to work, and it's so comfortable without being boring.

My car has had numerous issues, including problems with the air intake, window motor, and throttle body. Despite having the part replaced once, the RPMs still increase on their own while my foot is on the brake. However, the dealership is now claiming that the issue is due to my driving rather than the car itself. It is disappointing that Ford has not been able to competently address these issues. According to Consumer Reports, the 01 and 02 Mustangs were the worst models made with the most problems. If you have experienced similar issues, please email me as it would be helpful to know.
Jaylan Crooks 2024-10-10
I chose the Mustang as my first Ford product due to its great looks and the 0% financing offer. As someone who always drives V-8's and demands rear-wheel drive, the Mustang had everything I was looking for. Although I did encounter some fit and finish issues, and the interior had more plastic than I would have liked, I was confident in my decision. Unfortunately, I had to sell it after 2 years due to a job relocation, and the depreciation was significant. Despite this, I was able to sell it for $17K, which is a testament to the Mustang's value. While dealing with Ford Motor Credit was challenging, I would still recommend the Mustang to anyone looking for a powerful and stylish ride.
