2017 Chevrolet S10 problems
The Chevrolet S-10 is a compact pickup truck produced by Chevrolet. It was the first domestically-built compact pickup of the big three American automakers. When it was first introduced as a "quarter-ton pickup" in 1981 for the 1982 model year, the GMC version was known as the S-15 and later renamed the GMC Sonoma. A high-performance version of the latter was released in 1991, called "Syclone." The pickup was also sold by Isuzu as the Hombre from 1996 through 2000, but only in North America. There was also an SUV version, the Chevrolet S-10 Blazer/GMC S-15 Jimmy. An electric version was leased as a fleet vehicle in 1997 and 1998. These models are sometimes internally referred to as the S/T series to denote two and four wheel drive models respectively (similar to the full size Chevrolet C/K trucks) despite all versions being badged with 'S' nomenclature.
In North America, the S-series was replaced by the Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon, and Isuzu i-Series in 2004.
The S-Series ended production in Brazil in 2012, being replaced by the Chevrolet Colorado, but still with the name S-10.

Common 2017 Chevrolet S10 problems
Common Problems with the Chevrolet S10 (2017)
- Engine Stumbling and Hissing
A common issue with the Chevrolet S10 (2017) is engine stumbling, especially when giving it throttle from idle. This problem can be caused by various factors, such as a faulty EGR valve, vacuum leaks, or issues with the IAC (Idle Air Control) valve. When the engine is idling fine but stumbles when you give it throttle, it might be due to a vacuum leak or a faulty IAC valve. If you hear a hissing sound from the throttle, it could indicate an air leak or a problem with the IAC valve. In some cases, replacing the IAC valve may not solve the problem, and further investigation might be required.
- Check Engine Light
The check engine light can indicate various issues with the Chevrolet S10 (2017). Some common causes include loose or missing gas caps, failed oxygen sensors, weak batteries, faulty spark plugs, engine misfires, and issues with the mass airflow sensor. If the check engine light is blinking, it indicates a severe problem that requires immediate attention, such as engine misfires that can lead to mechanical failure and damage to the catalytic converter. If the light is steady, it may not be a severe issue, but it should still be addressed at the earliest convenience.
- Ignition System Issues
Ignition system issues can prevent the Chevrolet S10 (2017) from starting. Common problems include a faulty ignition switch, worn-out ignition coil, or damaged spark plugs. These components work together to generate a spark at the right moment to start the engine. If any of them fail, it can lead to a no-start situation.
- Fuel Delivery Problems
Fuel delivery problems can also prevent the Chevrolet S10 (2017) from starting. These issues can be caused by a clogged fuel filter, a malfunctioning fuel pump, or a faulty fuel injector. In some cases, the fuel may not reach the engine due to a blockage or a leak in the fuel lines. More fuel pressure can also prevent your truck from starting, leaving you stranded.
- Electrical System Failures
The electrical system in the Chevrolet S10 (2017) is responsible for powering various components, including the starter motor and the battery. If there's a failure in this system, your truck may not crank or start at all. Common issues include a dead or weak battery, corroded battery terminals, or a malfunctioning starter motor. A damaged ignition switch or faulty wiring can also disrupt the electrical flow, preventing your vehicle from starting.
- Engine Mechanical Problems
Engine mechanical problems can also cause starting difficulties in the Chevrolet S10 (2017). These issues often require a deeper diagnosis and can be caused by low compression in the cylinders, a worn-out timing belt, or a seized engine. If the engine can't turn over smoothly or generate enough compression, it won't start, leaving you with a non-operational vehicle.
- Computer Malfunctions
Modern vehicles like the Chevrolet S10 (2017) rely heavily on complex computer systems and sensors to manage engine performance. If there's a malfunction in these electronic components, it can lead to starting problems. Faulty sensors, such as the crankshaft position sensor or the camshaft position sensor, can prevent the engine from receiving the necessary signals for ignition. Additionally, issues with the engine control module (ECM) or the powertrain control module (PCM) can disrupt the overall operation of your vehicle.
How many miles can a S10 last?

Why does my Chevy S10 sputter?
The most common cause of engine sputtering are issues with the fuel system. These can range from bad fuel filters, fuel pump issues, or fuel injector issues. The other possible source of the problem would be due to poor ignition - think spark plugs or ignition coil problems.
