Common 2007 Ford Freestar problems
The 2007 Ford Freestar, a minivan produced by the American automaker, has been known to have some common problems based on complaints from its owners. These issues mainly affect the vehicle's transmission and electrical systems.
- Transmission Failure:
Transmission failure is another significant issue reported by owners of the 2005, 2004, and 2006 Ford Freestar models. The failure can occur without any warning signs, leaving drivers stranded. This issue is closely related to the torque converter failure, as a faulty torque converter can lead to transmission failure over time.
- PCM Failure:
Powertrain Control Module (PCM) failure has also been reported in the 2005 Ford Freestar. The PCM is the vehicle's main computer, responsible for controlling various systems, including the engine and transmission. A failed PCM can lead to a variety of issues, including poor performance, reduced fuel efficiency, and even a no-start condition.
- Engine and Electrical Issues:
While not as prevalent as transmission and PCM issues, engine and electrical problems have also been reported in the 2007 Ford Freestar. Engine issues include front rotor warping and injector failure, while electrical problems range from power window malfunctions to interior light failures.
In summary, the 2007 Ford Freestar has experienced several common problems, primarily affecting the transmission and electrical systems. These issues include torque converter failure, transmission failure, PCM failure, and various engine and electrical problems. Owners of these vehicles should be aware of these potential issues and consider regular maintenance and inspections to help identify and address them before they become major problems.

What is the Ford Freestar controversy?
In a class action filed in 2009, the plaintiffs claimed that Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey minivans in 2004, 2005, and 2006 were built with a manufacturing defect in the vehicles' torque converter. In the District of Minnesota, they claimed Ford breached its express and implied warranties.
What happened to the Ford Freestar?
The Freestar and Monterey minivan had nearly the same platform as the Windstar. The Freestar and Monterey minivan didn't sell too well because people were buying SUV's instead. This caused them both to stop being produced.

- Summary: I HAVE A 2007 FORD FREESTAR SE. VIN# [XXX]. AT 102,296 MILES THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. I WAS DRIVING IT ON A SIDE STREET AT APPROXIMATELY 15 MILES PER HOUR. I WAS ACCELERATING FROM A STOP SIGN, WHEN THE TRANSMISSION APPEARED TO SLIP INTO NEUTRAL. I LOOKED AND IT WAS STILL IN DRIVE, I TRIED DOWNSHIFTING, PUTTING IT INTO NEUTRAL AND BACK INTO DRIVE AND NOTHING WORKED. I COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND PUT IT INTO PARK. THAT APPEARED TO WORK. I THEN TRIED USING REVERSE AND IT DID NOT ENGAGE. I THEN TRIED ALL GEARS AND NOTHING HAPPENED. I THEN HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO MY HOUSE. I LET IT COOL DOWN AND IT STILL DID NOT WORK. THE TRANSMISSION FLUID IS A CLEAN PINK AND SMELLS BRAND NEW. I PROCEEDED TO DO ONLINE RESEARCH TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM AND IF IT CAN BE EASILY REPAIRED, WHAT I FOUND WAS VERY INTERESTING. IT WAS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM OCCURRING AROUND 103,000 MILES. MANY (HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE HAD THE SAME ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE SPANNING SEVERAL YEARS, MOST NOTABLY FROM 2004 THROUGH 2006. THERE WAS A RECALL ISSUED FOR THOSE YEARS. THERE WAS NOT, HOWEVER, A RECALL FOR THE 2007 MODEL YEAR. THERE ARE NUMEROUS PEOPLE WITH THIS YEAR AND PROBLEM AS WELL. - Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: WHEN I TOUCHED THE TRANSMISSION GEAR SHIFT ONE MORNING, THE CAR BEGAN ROLLING DOWN MY DRIVEWAY & ROLLED INTO THE STREET. I HAD A HARD TIME STOPPING THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THE ENGINE WAS NOT YET RUNNING & THE POWER BRAKES WERE NOT ON. THE GEAR SHIFT LEVER WOULD NOT HOLD IN PARK OR ANY OF THE OTHER GEARS. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A TRANSMISSION REPAIR SHOP. WHEN I TOLD THE MECHANIC WHAT HAD HAPPENED, HE SAID IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION TORQUE CONVERTER & SAID, "THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE." "I HAVE REPLACED HUNDREDS OF THEM OVER THE YEARS. OTHER INDEPENDENT TRANSMISSION REPAIR SHOPS HAVE SAID THE SAME THING. WHEN I ASKED THE CLERK AT THE LOCAL FORD DEALER PARTS DEPT., THEY WOULD NOT TELL ME HOW MANY OF THE TORQUE CONVERTERS THEY HAVE REPLACED. NOR COULD I GET ANY INFORMATION FROM THEIR TRANSMISSION REPAIR MECHANICS. MY INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DID SHOW ME THE DEFECTIVE PART OF MY TRANSMISSION & DEMONSTRATED HOW THE SPLINE IN THE CONVERTER HAD WORN OUT BECAUSE IT WAS NOT PROPER HEAT TREATED FOR PROPER HARDENING & THUS THE PART MALFUNCTIONED. NEEDLESS TO SAY, THE PUMP SHAFT GEAR WHICH INSERTS ITSELF IN THE SPLINE DOES NOT HAVE THIS MALFUNCTION. THEREFORE, ANY TRANSMISSION MECHANIC OR LAYMEN CAN ONLY COME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT THIS PART #06050700015 IS A DEFECTIVE PART & SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED. THIS MALFUNCTION IS CORRECTED WITH AN AFTER-MARKET PART. I HAD TO PAY $1200 TO HAVE THIS DEFECTIVE PART REMOVED & REPLACED. YOU CAN IMAGINE THE HUNDREDS OR THOUSANDS DOLLARS FORD OWNER ALL OVER THE COUNTRY HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THIS DEFECTIVE PART. I HAVE SPOKEN TO TWO FORD MOTOR CO. CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRS. & THEY SAY, "THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO ABOUT IT." I ALSO WROTE A REGISTERED LETTER TO FORD MOTOR CO. CORPORATE OFFICE & RECEIVED A MAIL REPLY WITH THE SAME RESPONSE. INITIALLY I WAS ONLY ASKING FORD MO. TO COMPENSATE ME $250. FOR THE DEFECTIVE PART & NOT THE $1200.

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my Ford cargo van. I've put 82,000 miles on it and it has been trouble-free! One thing I really appreciate is that Ford corrected the transmission for 2006 and 2007 models, so I haven't had any issues with that. Plus, it's surprisingly quiet inside and drives like a regular passenger van thanks to the full cloth headliner and trim panels all the way back to the tailgate. My family and I even prefer it for vacations because it has more cargo space than a thirsty SUV. And the best part? I get 25 mpg on the freeway if I drive 60! Even at 70mph, it still gets a respectable 23 mpg. Thanks for listening!

I think the Freestar is underrated. It's a great workhorse that people love to use for hauling both items and passengers.
-
Congratulations on your new SEL Freestar 4.2! It's great to hear that you are very pleased with it. I understand that your wife has a 2003 Honda Odyssey, which is also a great minivan. It's always good to have an extra minivan, especially when the other one has high miles. I'm glad to hear that both vehicles drive great and that you would consider buying a Ford over a Honda in the future, given the value for money. Although the sound system only has 4 speakers, I hope you still enjoy your drives in your new Freestar!

I have owned a Ford Windstar in the past, so I am familiar with front wheel drive. I love how responsive the handling is, and it gives me a feeling of confidence. I find myself trying to increase my gas mileage by driving carefully. The side air curtains are a super plus for my grandchildren.

After test driving GM, Ford and Chrysler models, we found that the Freestar has the best qualities for the money. It has nearly all the features of the competitors and in some cases more. In our opinion, the Freestar beats the GM vans and while the Chrysler is nice, we don't think it's worth the extra $2000 to $4000 for the same features.

I've had this van for a month and I must say, it hasn't been the best experience. I found it difficult to get in and out of, and the gas mileage wasn't great. I think there are better options out there. However, I appreciate the cargo space it provides. Overall, I wouldn't recommend it, but I'm sure it could work for some people depending on their needs.

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with the company issued 3.9L cargo vehicle that I drive. While it does have some quirks, overall it's a pretty smooth ride. I've noticed that it tends to stay on center, but can be a bit tricky to turn. With the extra weight in the rear, it handles a bit differently, but nothing too concerning. The combined gas mileage is around 20 MPG, which is a nice improvement from my previous full size Ford E250 with a 5.4L V8 that only got around 14 MPG. I did notice a small issue with the hood support rod being painted to the hood, which caused some damage to the paint, but it's not a major issue. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the vehicle and it gets the job done!

Hey there! It looks like all of them are experiencing the same issue. The torque converter shaft is shattering, which is causing an instant loss of power. This usually happens at intersections or when starting from a stop.

I will never buy another Ford product in my life. However, it is important to note that my experience with a particular van has been less than satisfactory. Despite multiple visits to the shop, the issues with the vehicle persist. While I understand that every product can have its flaws, I do believe that the issues with this van are significant and have impacted my perception of the brand. It is my hope that Ford will take steps to address these concerns and improve the quality of their products.
