1995 Ford Escort problems
The North American version of the Ford Escort is a range of cars that was sold by Ford from the 1981 to 2003 model years. The direct successor of the Ford Pinto, the Escort also largely overtook the role of the European-imported Ford Fiesta as the smallest vehicle in the Ford model line in North America. Produced across three generations, the first generation was a subcompact; the latter two generations were compact cars. Becoming highly successful in the marketplace, the Escort became the best-selling car in the United States after 1982, a position it would hold for much of the 1980s.
Produced across three generations, the Escort was the first world car developed by Ford, with the first-generation American Escort designed alongside Ford of Europe, who transitioned the Escort Mk III to front-wheel drive. During its production, the Escort also underwent a wide use of platform sharing and rebranding. The first generation served as the basis of the longer-wheelbase Ford Tempo/Mercury Topaz, the two-seat Ford EXP/Mercury LN7 and was rebranded as the Mercury Lynx. The second generation was introduced for 1991, growing into the compact segment. Moving away from a shared design with Ford of Europe, the Escort now shared a platform with the Mazda 323 and sharing a body with the Ford Laser (a model line sold in Asia and Oceania); the Mercury Lynx was replaced by the Mercury Tracer. For 1997, the third generation served as an extensive redesign of the previous-generation sedan; the Escort ZX2 two-door was introduced, with the Mercury Tracer adopting a similar redesign.
Ford introduced the Ford Focus in North America for 2000 as its third "world car", phasing it in as the successor of the Escort. After 2000, the four-door Escort was moved primarily to fleet sales (with the coupe remaining available); production ended entirely after the 2002 model year. In contrast to the first-generation American Escort and Escort Mk III of Ford of Europe (and the Mondeo/Contour and Mercury Mystique), the Focus adopted a much larger degree of commonality between its European and North American variants, in effect, becoming the original world car Ford had originally envisioned with the Escort.
During its entire production, the Escort was produced by Wayne Stamping & Assembly in (Wayne, Michigan) and the first generation was also produced by Edison Assembly in (Edison, New Jersey), San Jose Assembly Plant in (Milpitas, California), and Oakville Assembly in (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) while the second and third generations were also produced by Hermosillo Stamping and Assembly in (Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico).

Common 1995 Ford Escort problems
Based on complaints from owners of the Ford Escort 1995, several common problems have been reported:
- Dropped Valve Seat Cylinder #4: This issue has been reported in the 1999 Ford Escort, with 9 complaints. When a valve seat drops in the cylinder, it can lead to engine misfires, rough running, and potentially severe engine damage. Owners experiencing this problem may notice poor engine performance, unusual noises, and potential stalling. Addressing this issue typically requires significant engine repair or replacement to resolve the dropped valve seat.
- Rough Running: Owners of the 1997 Ford Escort have reported 7 complaints related to the engine running roughly. Rough running engines can indicate various underlying issues such as fuel delivery problems, ignition system malfunctions, or air intake issues. To address this problem, a thorough diagnostic process is necessary to identify the specific cause and then perform the required repairs or replacements to restore smooth engine operation.
- Idle Roughness and Stalling: In the 1999 Ford Escort, 6 complaints have been made regarding idle roughness and stalling. These symptoms can be indicative of issues with the engine's idle control system, fuel system, or ignition components. Proper diagnosis by a qualified mechanic is essential to pinpoint the root cause and implement the necessary repairs to prevent stalling and ensure smooth idling.
- Engine Knocking: The 2001 Ford Escort has received 5 complaints about severe engine knocking. Engine knocking can be a serious problem that may result from issues like low-quality fuel, incorrect ignition timing, or internal engine component wear. Addressing engine knocking promptly is crucial to prevent further damage and maintain the engine's performance and longevity.
- Rattling Noises Leading to Engine Failure: Reported in the 1995 Ford Escort with 5 complaints, rattling noises followed by engine failure can indicate significant internal engine issues. These noises may be a sign of worn components, lack of lubrication, or impending mechanical failure. Immediate attention from a qualified mechanic is necessary to diagnose the root cause of the rattling and prevent catastrophic engine damage.
These common problems with the Ford Escort 1995 highlight the importance of regular maintenance, prompt diagnosis of issues, and timely repairs to ensure the vehicle's reliability and longevity. Owners experiencing any of these issues should seek professional assistance to address them effectively and prevent further damage to their vehicles.

It's a very nice car! You can depend on its power. It has a good road grip, nice steering, and a powerful roaring engine. With manual shifting, it's way too cool!
-
Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with this car. I bought it new and it has been a great investment. I've only had to replace the front brake pads at 105,000 miles and the timing belt, water pump, serpentine belt, and idler pulley at 80,000 miles. Other than regular maintenance, I haven't had to spend much on this car in almost 11 years. On the last long trip I took with 4 adults, luggage, and a dog, it got an average of 35 mpg at 70 mph all day long. I highly recommend this car to anyone looking for a reliable and efficient vehicle.
-
You have a truly reliable car! It's amazing that it still has the original spark plugs and gets an impressive 33 mpg!
-
I bought this car back in 2002 while I was still in school, with 105K miles on it. The previous owner had taken good care of it, and I've tried to do the same. It's now got 155K miles on it, and I've had to replace a few things like the alternator, clutch, tie rod ends, rear suspension, front brakes, cooling fan, and thermostat. But even with all that, I still consider this car to be extremely reliable - it gets 38mpg on the highway! The engine can be a bit rough and noisy, but it always starts up on the first try, even on the coldest days. I've taken it on many long-distance trips, including a couple over 1500 miles one way, and it's never let me down. It's a shame that I have to sell it now, but I'm sure the next owner will be able to put another 50K miles on it easily!

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with my 2nd Escort that I purchased back in Oct. 2000. It had 26,000 miles on it at the time and now it has 73,000 miles, mostly from highway driving. I'm happy to say that I haven't had a single problem with the car! The gas mileage is fantastic, averaging about 33 with the automatic transmission. The only downside is that the front seat can get a bit uncomfortable for me on long trips (2+ hours), but overall it's a great car. In fact, I'm now selling it to buy a newer Escort wagon...but I'll definitely miss this one! :)

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my car. I actually bought it at an auction 5 months ago for $900! It was a bit of a fixer-upper, but I was looking for something affordable and fuel-efficient. Despite having 132,000 miles on it, it still runs like a champ! Of course, it does leak a little oil and antifreeze, but it still gets an impressive 35+ mpg on my daily commute. It's a shame the previous owner didn't take better care of it, but I plan on driving it until it can't go anymore. Plus, the A/C is a lifesaver, especially living in the south! Take care!

I had the pleasure of owning an Escort for 15 months and I must say, it was a reliable car. I never had any issues with the drivetrain. The hatchback design was a great choice as it provided ample cargo space and flexibility. The car also had great mileage. However, I did find it to be quite noisy and the sound system was not up to par. Additionally, it was not very comfortable for longer trips exceeding 30 minutes. Unfortunately, I did experience some broken interior features such as the auto-seatbelts, hi-beam switch, rear defrost button (which fell into the dash), thermostat, and more. It seems that Ford put a lot of effort into building a reliable and low maintenance drivetrain for the Escort this year, but they really skimped on the interior and driver comfort features. Despite this, I still appreciated the economy car for what it was.

It sounds like you're having some trouble with the car's tilt steering wheel and pick up on the highway. I can definitely understand how frustrating that can be.

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share my experience with my car. I've had it for over 9 years now and it's been great! I've only needed to do regular maintenance like oil changes, filter replacements, and air-filter changes. When I was looking for a car, I wanted something small and reliable, and this car has definitely delivered. I'm really happy with my purchase!
