2022 Ford Escape problems
The Ford Escape is a compact crossover SUV manufactured and marketed by Ford Motor Company since the 2001 model year. The first Ford SUV derived from a car platform, the Escape fell below the Ford Explorer in size; the Escape is currently sized between the Ford EcoSport and Ford Edge. The 2004 Ford Escape Hybrid was the first hybrid-electric vehicle from Ford, and the first hybrid produced as an SUV.
The first two generations of the Escape used the Ford CD2 platform (jointly developed with Mazda), leading to the release of the Mazda Tribute and Mercury Mariner; as with the Escape, both the Tribute and Mariner were marketed in North America. In Europe, the Escape was initially branded as the Ford Maverick from 2001 to 2008 (replacing a Nissan-produced SUV).
Under the mid-2000s "One Ford" globalization strategy, the third and fourth-generation designs of the Escape have been unified with the Ford Kuga, designed by Ford of Europe. Sharing a common body and chassis underpinnings (and several engines), the Escape and Kuga are manufactured in their home markets. As with previous generations, the fourth-generation Escape is offered with gasoline, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid options. Outside of North America, the Ford Escape is marketed in Australia, China, and Taiwan.

Common 2022 Ford Escape problems
The 2022 Ford Escape has been reported to have several common issues based on complaints from owners. While there are no specific complaints about the 2022 model year, it is useful to be aware of the issues that have affected previous model years, as they may still be relevant for the 2022 model.
- Ignition Misfires: Ignition misfires are a prevalent issue in the Ford Escape, affecting most year models. This problem can cause damage to other components and should be fixed as soon as possible. Replacing ignition coils is the typical solution, which can cost between $108 and $152, not including taxes and fees.
- Engine Stumbling: Engine stumbling and hesitation are also common problems in the Ford Escape, causing the engine light to illuminate. These issues can be costly to fix, with an estimated repair cost of $250.
- Power Steering Loss: Power steering loss is another reported issue in the Ford Escape, with an average cost to fix ranging from $80 to $150 for reprogramming.
- Cheap Dash Material and Unpainted Bumpers/Fender Flares: Some owners have reported that the dash material feels cheap, and the bumpers and fender flares are unpainted, which can affect the overall aesthetic and perceived quality of the vehicle.
- Recall Due to Possible Engine Failure: There have been recalls for the 2.5 hybrid engine due to possible engine failure. This issue can lead to a sudden loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will replace the high voltage battery free of charge to address this issue.
- Fuel Injector Cracks and Leaks: The 2022 Ford Escape, along with certain 2020-2023 Escape and 2021-2023 Bronco Sport vehicles equipped with 1.5L engines, has been recalled due to a potential fuel injector crack that can leak fuel inside the engine compartment. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source can increase the risk of a fire. Dealers will inspect the oil separator for damage or oil leaks and replace the oil separator and seals if necessary, free of charge.
- Engine Oil and Fuel Vapor Release: The 2020-2023 Escape, 2022-2023 Maverick, and 2021-2023 Corsair vehicles equipped with 2.5L HEV or PHEV engines have been recalled due to the potential for engine oil and fuel vapor to be released into the engine compartment in the event of an engine failure. This release can accumulate near ignition sources, possibly resulting in an engine compartment fire. Owners are advised to park and shut off the engine as quickly as possible if they hear unexpected engine noises, notice a reduction in vehicle power, or see smoke.
It is essential to be aware of these common issues when considering purchasing a Ford Escape, particularly if buying a used model. Regular maintenance and inspections can help identify and address potential problems before they become severe.

Congratulations on your new 2022 Ford Escape SE Hybrid! It's great to hear that you're enjoying it so much. The interior design and features sound fantastic, and it's impressive that you were able to get 42 MPG on your trip from NY to NC. That's definitely saving you a lot of money on gas! Thank you for recommending this vehicle, and for letting us know that Ford also offers the Edge in a hybrid model for those who need a slightly larger SUV.

I've had this vehicle for a while now and I must say, it has been an interesting experience. When I first got it, I found the 8-speed transmission a little strange and the vehicle had uneven performance. Some days it would perform flawlessly and other days the transmission would gear hunt, shift hard, throw in an odd shift or shift too slowly. However, after doing some research, I found out that this car has a legitimate break-in period of about 2,000 miles. The gears have to be worn in, the computer has to learn driving behaviors and things will tend to smooth out over time. The SUV is absurdly fast for what it is, smooth and handles like a dream. Passing anyone or getting up to speed quickly is not an issue at all. Honestly, it doesn't even feel like a crossover, it feels more car-like when compared to the previous generation Escape. The interior is basic in a good way and user-friendly with technology that is easy to use. It doesn't feel like a confusing Star Wars spaceship cockpit like a lot of these modern vehicles. Many reviews criticize this vehicle for having a strange transmission behavior or saying it's not fun to drive....but they are WRONG. Do NOT judge this vehicle new within its first 1,700 miles. It is a transmission that needs to be driven and worn in. The vehicle is FUN to drive and I often find excuses to take it out on the road just to have fun driving it. I've tested this car against the new RAV4 and there is no comparison, the Escape is hands down the better, faster and more composed vehicle. If you're looking for a driver's car, I highly recommend this one.

Plenty of get up and go, yet it still delivers over 30 mpg combined mileage.

During our trip to LA, we rented a car which unfortunately did not meet our expectations. The car had uncomfortable seats, leaky doors while driving on the highway, and a transmission that barely shifted up or down. Additionally, the gas pedal and brake were not designed properly, causing discomfort and inconvenience during our drive. These issues made our journey less enjoyable than we had hoped.

I've had multiple Ford Escape rentals for months at a time due to issues with my car's sunroof (3 to be exact) for probably a total amount of 6 months. Every time I get into these Escapes, I appreciate how well they handle and how sporty they can feel, how good the audio is, and the decent MPG. However, I do have some concerns. The transmissions before the break-in period make the car miserable to drive, meaning that it hunts for gears, has jerky shifts, and sometimes pushes it to 4-5k RPM when using small amounts of throttle (and this happens on all 3 of the ones I've driven). I also find the cheap plastics inside the Escapes to be disappointing, even the top trims such as the SEL/TITANIUM. They just feel cheap for the price you have to pay for one of these Escapes (the Titanium can get up to 45k dollars... really?). Lastly, I find them uncomfortable. I don't see these cars lasting past 100-150k miles just due to the 1.5 turbo motor paired with the 8-speed, and I don't see owners of these cars wanting to own them for 8-12 years. Compared to even the last generation Escape, this thing is quite pathetic.

I purchased this car brand new and it was ordered for delivery. Although the delivery was almost 2 months past its delivery date, I received it a week before New Year's. Unfortunately, it failed inspections before it was released to us and was very poorly assembled in the end. When we picked it up after it was trailered in, the key fob was apparently not paired properly and was not responding. The dealership couldn't do much, so we had to schedule for a technician to come out and go over it again. Once they corrected that, the remote start feature was not working. We brought it home and waited for the dealer to help us schedule service again from another Ford technician. That technician never came out, but luckily the dealership hired a service technician that knew how to dive into the problem and solved it. When driving, the safety lights on the passenger side that warn you not to merge right because there is a car next to you keep going on randomly, even with no car person or item on that side of the vehicle. Going to a drive-through and pushing the window down button is quite embarrassing because it sounds like nails on a chalkboard. Ford has looked at it and said they have seen this and greased it, but the problem is still the same. When backing up, it groans and when placing it in park and making sure the parking brake is engaged, it drops hard on itself if it's in a slight up or down hill. When driving in electric, it is nice and quiet, but when it switches to gas, it sounds like a semi-engine breaking. We turn the radio up so we can't hear it. Unfortunately, the passenger door will not properly close, and although we have taken it in, the service manager has pretty much told us to get over it because it's like that in all Escapes. So we make sure to slam it to catch close, but now when we close it, it won't lock properly. All other doors do, but not the passenger side. It's surprising that a car this new doesn't have Apple Car Play or Android, and you must plug in. I hope this feedback helps improve the quality of future cars.Even then, it's a bit slow to respond and connect. However, it does get great gas mileage, which is a plus. I only gave it two stars because my Hyundai Tucson Hybrid has set the bar pretty high for us. Overall, it's not a bad car, just needs a bit of improvement in the GPS software.

Although everyone has their own preferences, I must respectfully disagree with the negative assessment of the Ford Escape. In my experience, the Escape is a reliable and well-designed vehicle that offers great value for its price. While some may prefer other models, I believe that the Escape is a strong contender in its class and should not be dismissed so easily.

Although the initial expectations were high, this vehicle has proven to be unreliable in certain conditions. It is recommended to have a tow plan in case of encountering more than 1 inch of snow, sand or mud. The sand mode is ineffective in deep snow. Additionally, the transmission has hard shifts and the rear end screeches when wet or cold on reverse. At 37,000 miles, the original tires are down to 1/32 even with regular tire rotations, which is a concern. However, it is worth noting that the seats are comfortable. Overall, there is room for improvement in terms of reliability and performance.
