Ram 1500 2019 problems
The Ram pickup (marketed as the Dodge Ram until 2010) is a full-size pickup truck manufactured by Stellantis North America (formerly Chrysler Group LLC and FCA US LLC) and marketed from 2010 onwards under the Ram Trucks brand. The current fifth-generation Ram debuted at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan, in January of that year.
Previously, Ram was part of the Dodge line of light trucks. The name Ram was first used in 1981 model year Dodge Trucks in October 1980, following the retiring and rebadging of the Dodge D series pickup trucks as well as B-series vans, though the company had used a ram's-head hood ornament on some trucks as early as 1933.
Ram trucks have been named Motor Trend magazine's Truck of the Year eight times; the second-generation Ram won the award in 1994, the third-generation Ram heavy-duty won the award in 2003, the fourth-generation Ram Heavy Duty won in 2010 and the fourth-generation Ram 1500 won in 2013 and 2014, and the current fifth-generation Ram pickup became the first truck in history to win the award three times, winning in 2019, 2020, and 2021.

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-01
- VIN: 1C6RR7KTXKS
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: Hemi 5.7L ticking. Took the truck to another mechanic to assess and the engine is filled with metal shavings from a failed assembly at 50k miles. A power train assembly should get at minimum 100k miles before any issues would arrive. A STAR report has been generated on this very issue. However, we purchased this vehicle used with 91 miles on the odometer as it was listed as the previous owner being the manufacturer itself and was used and moved around from showroom to showroom as a floor model. We have no warranty and now must replace the entire engine due to the metal shavings found throughout the engine. Cost to replace is 10k+ which is horrifying an engine must be replaced at 50K miles due to a known product design flaw causing so many of us to experience the same exact issue around 50k miles. Fiat only replaces those under warranty with the same flawed/defective part only to have the same issue reappear...that to me means the part design is flawed. Both of our mechanics said this is a known defect that many of their customers have experienced. Our check engine light came on prior to a scheduled visit to our mechanic on July 8 as we were hearing a ticking noise. Magically, the morning of the 8th when I first went start the truck to take to our mechanic regarding the light the light was not on any longer. We still attended the appointment to check out the tick. He recommended engine replacement. When I left the mechanics and got 5 miles down the road the check engine light came back on. Since then we took to another mechanic who dismantled the engine somewhat to check the lifter assembly and sure enough there it was, completely disintegrated, hanging on by a thread left of an actual bolt, metal shavings in the oil pan too. He indicated to us that when that small thread left from the bolt finally failed the engine would seize up and we would lose power immediately. Extremely dangerous at highway speeds or driving up and down the mountainous areas.
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-07
- VIN: 1C6RRFLG0KN
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: RAM 1500 - 2019 - about 50,000 miles Vehicle had check engine light, code was failed spark plug. Also lost coolant. Took it to a independent mechanic shop near home and they confirmed the head gasket has failed via pressure test. Truck is 4 months out of warranty and the dealership / manufacturer is not helping me resolve the issue. The coolant was leaking into that particular spark plug. Can’t drive this vehicle and the repairs are in the $8000-$10,000 range. My local dealerships want to charge me about $4,000 to take the engine apart and determine what the issue is. Chrysler / RAM should be held responsible because they know this engine is known to fail and the cause of poor manufacturing. I’m out of options and I’m looking for any type of assistance or resolve to this issue.
STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-26

It has failed causing the air bag light to come on and they are not sure it will work properly either. I’m hoping this recall can be revisited and extended to my vehicle.
STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-10-16
- VIN: 1C6SRFHT6KN
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: I purchased my 2019 Ram 1500 in Sept 2018. I have had continuous steering issues since the day of purchase and each time I've complained over the past years nothing has been done by the dealer to address my problem. When the truck is warmed up and you're driving over 50 mph there's a "catch" or spot that seems to have a rough spot when steering to the left. It's fine when turning right, only when turning left does it occur. It's progressively getting worse and as the truck now has over 36,000 miles, (43,00 at time or writing this) the dealers are not interested in looking into my issues. I have made at least 5 or 6 complaints over the years and each time have been told they'll look into and get back to me. I feel now it's reached the point where it's not all that safe to drive or that the system could completely fail. How do I get Ram to get serious and address this issue. I know there's been time lapses on my part but as an 87 year old, time gets by me.
POWER TRAIN,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-02
- VIN: 1C6SRFFT6KN

- Summary: Air dam malfunction causing truck to shut off
STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-08
- VIN: 1C6RR7FG7KS
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: My truck is turning hard and is an issue driving. There are recalls for the same year and online states it has recalls for rams manufactured before 10-2018 and my truck was manufactured on 7-2018. I’m being told there is no recall. Why if dodge has an issue with power steering with those models like mine is my issue not covered . This is a major safety issue and is obviously related. I also had an issue with a recall with my back window leaking right after I bought this and again the vin number had no recall but was obviously an issue for these models for the year and make. Dodge needs to do better the steering issue could put someone’s life at risk not just my own!
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-10
- VIN: 1C6SRFET2KN
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: October 10, 2024, approximately 6:10AM PST. While accelerating on freeway on-ramp to merge into traffic that was also accelerating, the truck shifted the transmission into neutral. Vehicles behind truck had to swerve around my truck, while I stepped on brake pedal in the middle of accelerating traffic to be able to shift truck back into drive to continue onto freeway. This is not the first arbitrary shift into neutral from this truck. About a year and a half ago, it was happening regularly, until I cleaned the throttle body, then the arbitrary shifts into neutral stopped.
STEERING,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-10
- VIN: 1C6SRFHT3KN
- Components: STEERING,ENGINE
- Summary: I got in my truck and once i turned it on a warning message popped up on the dash board saying power steering unavailable and gave me a red steering wheel sign. I put the truck in drive and the steering wheel did not move it was as if the truck was off. Its a huge safety risk because what if this happens while I am driving the vehicle and I lose power steering. Or if I have an emergency I cant drive my vehicle.
POWER TRAIN,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-02
- VIN: 1C6SRFFT5KN
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ENGINE
- Summary: My vehicle started making a clicking noise and smelled like burning rubber. I took it to my local mechanic and my right exhaust manifold is cracked leaking co2 into the cab. This is on national back order because of the high demand for the parts. This is a national recall for similar parts on the same engine. I don't understand why this is not on recall as well.
AIR BAGS,SEAT BELTS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-12
- VIN: 1C6RR6LT2KS
- Components: AIR BAGS,SEAT BELTS
- Summary: While driving my 2019 RAM 1500 on 12 September 2024 my airbag warning light came on. Shortly thereafter I took my pickup to the RAM dealership's service department to ID the problem. The service manager looked at the airbag warning light and told me that the restraint system works in unison with the seat belt restraint system. So, while troubleshooting the restraint system she pulled on the seat belt multiple times. Each and every time she pulled it with various degrees of force the seat belt failed to lock. She told me that this is a safety issue that needs to be addressed. She went on to say that failure to fix this issue can be very harmful for the driver in a collision where the seat belt restraint fails to lock. She recommended that the vehicle should not be driven until this safety issue is fixed.
SUSPENSION,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-07
- VIN: 1C6SRFFT8KN
- Components: SUSPENSION,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: My 2019 Ram 1500 is experiencing the exact same issues listed in recall 75B but my VIN number is not part of the recall. The symptoms that it is having are the exact ones listed in your recall from 9/11/24 concerning the ABS and stability control issues. It is very disheartening that there wasn’t a better investigation done on this issue either on your end or on Ram’s end. I’m sure there are plenty more vehicles that are affected that aren’t in this recall. My truck did it as I was going highway speeds (70mph) and the abs and stability control issues also disengaged my speed control as I was on the highway. It was a good thing there wasn’t another car behind me or I would have been struck from behind.
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-05
- VIN: 1C6RR6NM0KS
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: Good morning, My vehicle was brought in based on a check engine light on or about August 6 2024. The vehicle is under full factory extended warranty. It has been in the shop for over two months awaiting parts. I have been told that a defective DPF is the problem, and the truck requires over $4600 in repairs. They claim none of this is covered by the "Bumper to bumper" warranty. I explained that the system never worked properly, that the truck only went into "Regeneration" one time. That is was serviced consistently by the dealership and is in perfect condition. So far, no replacement vehicle has been offered or provided. There was a summary judgement on these trucks and the sale was delayed pending correction of emissions problems. * I believe those problems were never addressed and this failure is widespread in the 2019 EcoDiesel RAM 1500. Further RAM has failed to maintain an adequate supply of spare parts to remedy a common failure in the vehicles. I was told there are currently 18 claims before mine. It merits consideration from NTSB that this judgment against RAM should be extended to 2019 vehicles, although they claimed to have: Fixed. them". I have written RAM, emailed the dealership, called customer service on numerous occasions and copies of letters are available on request.
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-02-12
- VIN: 1C6RR7FG6KS
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: Brake module is not working traction control not working and cruise control not work because of brake module not working
STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-02
- VIN: 1C6SRFFT0KN
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: Heated steering wheel failed. Components and/or wiring melted. This was discovered about 5 months ago and it took that long to get replacement parts because they were on back order. This is a common issue in RAM trucks. If you google you can find the issue in many different articles and Forums, yet no recall on it. Fix is over $1400. It believe the fix is changing a clock spring if it isn't already melted. Mine was melted. This is a long standing RAM issue with back ordered parts. It should be looked at as a recall. It's not a safety issue per say, but seems like a manufacturing defect that is very costly to the customer if they don't have extended warranty.
STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-17
- VIN: 1C6SRFFT7KN
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: The contact owns a 2019 Ram 1500. The contact stated while driving 65-70 MPH and making a turn, the vehicle lost power steering functionality and almost struck a wall. The contact exited the highway and pulled into a parking lot, where the contact turned off and restarted the vehicle; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle remained in the parking lot until the following day. The contact replaced the power steering fuse and temporarily disconnected the battery, and the vehicle operated as needed. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring intermittently. The message "Service Power Steering" was displayed. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V812000 (Steering); however, the VIN was not included. The dealer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the manufacturer for assistance. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 122,000.
