2015 Ford Escape problems

ford logo

The Ford Escape is a compact crossover SUV manufactured and marketed by Ford Motor Company since the 2001 model year. The first Ford SUV derived from a car platform, the Escape fell below the Ford Explorer in size; the Escape is currently sized between the Ford EcoSport and Ford Edge. The 2004 Ford Escape Hybrid was the first hybrid-electric vehicle from Ford, and the first hybrid produced as an SUV.

The first two generations of the Escape used the Ford CD2 platform (jointly developed with Mazda), leading to the release of the Mazda Tribute and Mercury Mariner; as with the Escape, both the Tribute and Mariner were marketed in North America. In Europe, the Escape was initially branded as the Ford Maverick from 2001 to 2008 (replacing a Nissan-produced SUV).

Under the mid-2000s "One Ford" globalization strategy, the third and fourth-generation designs of the Escape have been unified with the Ford Kuga, designed by Ford of Europe. Sharing a common body and chassis underpinnings (and several engines), the Escape and Kuga are manufactured in their home markets. As with previous generations, the fourth-generation Escape is offered with gasoline, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid options. Outside of North America, the Ford Escape is marketed in Australia, China, and Taiwan.

POWER TRAIN,ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-09-25
  • VIN: 1FMCU9GX5FU
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,ENGINE
  • Summary: We bought this car used from the Ford dealership in Ellensburg WA in 2021. It had 79k at the time. We performed a lot of maintenance on the vehicle; new tires, alignment, coolant flush, transmission flush, spark plugs, and updated the Synce software. Then the turbo failed about 5 months later. And we replaced the turbo with a brand new one at the same dealership for 5k. Then we replaced the coolant system. We performed all the recalls as they came in, regarding the transmission shifter and something to do with a solenoid, and we never missed an oil change. In September 2024 the transmission failed and it needs a whole new one. There's a class action lawsuit in CA for the type of transmission in this year of Ford Escape, but it's only for CA residents. Too bad. It's been less than 3 years since we bought it, we've paid twice the price it's worth in repairs and on maintenance, and now it's junk. DON'T BUY AN ESCAPE!

A few months after the transmission was repaired, we started losing a lot of coolant. The dreaded coolant leak through the head gasket into cylinder 2 is the diagnosis. Dealer, told us $12k for a new motor. This is not okay!!!

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-09-09
  • VIN: 1FMCU9G94FU
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: With no warning, car suddenly refused to start after parking it for a brief errand. Jump starting had no effect (battery was healthy and fully charged). Keys would switch instrument cluster on but cluster would go dark when key was turned to start position or when shifter release was pulled. After reviewing YouTube, other owners found that the 50A mega fuse connected to the fuel pump and BCM (yellow wire) would degrade to the point that its internal connection would become intermittent. This causes intermittent no-start condition and could result in the vehicle shutting off while being driven on the road. Rapping on the front panel of the battery box can temporarily reconnect the internal failure of the fuse and allow the car to start.

  • Summary: My daughter borrowed my car and experienced a loud rattling noise. We had it towed to our local shop who recommended bringing it to a Ford Dealership for the issue. We had it towed there and I was informed after they looked at it that we had a cracked flex plate. It horrifies what could have happened while she was in the car. There was a check engine light on, but that was not connected to this issue apparently because I had to pay an additional cost to get that fixed. I have never heard of a cracked flex plate but when I googled it I found Ford had several recalls for it, but not attached to my VIN

Negative 2015 Ford Escape car reviews

We have experienced persistent issues with our vehicle since its second year. Despite having driven it for less than 70,000 miles, we have decided to part ways with it to avoid further expenses. While I initially enjoyed the car's appearance and driving experience, it ultimately did not meet our needs.

My 2007 Ford Escape with 120,000 miles gets an impressive 26 mpg on the highway, while my 2015 Titanium has only managed 22 mpg. Despite the dealership's insistence that there is no issue, I was able to provide video evidence of a humming vibration in the front windshield when driving into the wind. Even with this evidence, they have been unable to locate and fix the problem. It is clear that my expertise and attention to detail have revealed issues that others have overlooked.

The back seats may feel a bit cramped, and the fuel economy could be better.

  4. Reece Zieme 2024-11-07

The Ford Escape has had several issues, including build quality, door alignment, rust, coolant consumption, and transmission problems. It is important to be aware of these issues before making a purchase. I decided to trade my 2015 Escape for a 2014 Dodge Charger, which was a great decision. I am confident that my new car will last for the length of the loan. I wish all new car buyers good luck, but I would advise against purchasing the Escape due to its issues.

  5. Sigmund Abernathy 2024-10-27

The vehicle underwent transmission repair at 11,000 miles and 18,000 miles, with two front wheel bearings and one axle being replaced at 36,000 miles. Unfortunately, the original set of Continental tires did not last more than 35,000 miles. Despite these efforts, the transmission is still malfunctioning.

I drove a Camry for 12 years and 165,000 miles, and it never gave me any trouble. I'm giving it to my son for his college graduation. Two months ago, I bought a loaded 2015 Escape Titanium 2.0 4 wheel drive, and I'm hoping to have the same luck with this vehicle. I test drove the Santa Fe, Rav 4, and Terrain, but the Escape was the clear winner with its hotter look, hotter interior, and better drive. It has way more pep than the others. I wanted a small SUV with decent gas mileage, and while I miss the 30-32 I was getting with the Camry, I knew my mileage would go down. So far, I'm getting an average of 25.1, which is not bad. I love the fact that it is all-wheel drive and moves to 4-wheel drive when I need it. I'm looking forward to seeing how it does this winter. The interior is amazing, with hands-free navigation, phone, stereo, and climate control. I have had no issues with voice commands, and it's very easy to get comfortable with. I love never needing to take the keys out of my pocket and the keypad on the door. I got the full-length sunroof, and I love it. I've never had one before. The heated seats and memory seats are also great features. I love using my foot to open the back gate, which has come in handy many times. Every time I get into it, I look forward to driving it. So far, so good! Now, at 1 year and 15,000 miles, I still love it. There are a couple of small rattles from time to time in the interior, and at times, the tight sport ride can be no fun with all the poor roads in Wisconsin, but the SUV is still very much fun to drive. I really like the Ford services that you can voice activate, and I've used it a few times to help me find things. It suddenly went away on the 1-year anniversary, but it is only $60 a year, which is a lot less than OnStar. I love using the phone app to send address destinations to my car. That is very slick. I loved driving it last winter, and I had no issues whatsoever in the snow. I hate winter, but I'm looking forward to another year of no worries driving.

Out of all the cars I looked at, including the 2015 Mini, Jeep, BMW, Kia, Hyundai, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Toyota, Honda, and Chevy, I decided that my 2013 Escape SE with 37,000 miles was still the best fit for me. However, I received an email from the dealer advertising a dynamite price for the 2015 Escape SE with the convenience package, which I couldn't resist. After some negotiation on the trade-in, I was able to lower my monthly payment and upgrade to the 2015 model. I had no issues with my 2013 Escape, but the 2015 model is just too good to pass up. It offers superior comfort, power, quality, and economy that perfectly suit my needs. Although the 2015 model has several improvements over the 2013, they all add up to make it a better vehicle overall.

  3. Olaf Ziemann 2024-09-05

I purchased my new Ford Titanium Escape in January and have been driving it for over a month in winter conditions. I absolutely love it! The visibility is even better than my wife's Ford Edge, and the pep and acceleration are superior to the Edge. While I understand that the Edge is a higher-end vehicle and may have more comfort for long drives, the FWD performs great on snow and ice. I find Ford Sync to be great and use voice commands a lot. The only downside is that the Ford Sync controls are a bit of a stretch to reach. I love having the sunroof along with the roof rack and can't wait to enjoy this vehicle in the summer.

This vehicle has been a real workhorse for us. We put a lot of miles on it in a short period of time, but it never let us down. It was always ready to go and provided a comfortable ride. We came to rely on it to do exactly what it was designed to do. We never had to make a warranty claim, and the only service it required was routine maintenance. We recently upgraded to a 2018 Escape, but we know that we won't find better reliability even if we spend more or opt for a premium brand.

  5. Jerald Mayert 2024-06-10

This car is really comfortable and the power seats are excellent. I love how it sits up higher than a sedan or compact, and the MPG's are great. The wheels and deep tinted glass give it a really nice look. Overall, this is a fantastic car! We've been experiencing a very snowy winter in Michigan, but the AWD has been excellent. Update 8-11-18: I still love it even after 77K miles with no issues at all. I only had to replace the tires and brakes. I just bought its twin, only silver, with 38K for my wife to drive and she is very happy with it, just like I am.
