The next day, the repair shop called saying vehicle had "Blown Head Gasket " and would take a major repair. The car has not been repaired yet because of the major expense.

After further research, I found that this is an indicator of the failure of a gasket allowing coolant to leak into the cylinder causing the misfire. I have had the issue diagnosed, confirming the gasket failure by two garages, one being a Ford dealership. Further research has shown that this is a known flaw to the Ford Company, caused by the engine design. The "fix" is a long block engine replacement. If no action is taken the engine will eventually loose coolant and over heat, or the damage in the cylinder will ultimately cause the engine to lock up, likely causing an accident and thus putting occupants of the SUV and possibly others at risk of injury. My car had approximately 100,000 miles when the issue was first indicated, approximately six months after purchasing the vehicle from a Ford dealership.

- Summary: On my 2017 Ford Escape with ecoboost, my check engine light came on we noticed a sweet smell right after Iturn the car on to drive it and a big puff of white smoke came out of my tailpipe. I did notice that it hesitated when i would start to go at a stop light but not enough to make it stall. We took it to the dealership and they are saying there is coolant intrusion on the 4th cylinder and the only way to fix it is to have a new motor put in it. That's about $9,000.00. - Summary: In September my check engine light came on, codes were for spark plugs, ignition coil and misfire cylinder 2. I took it to mechanic he said my spark plugs were covered in oil I changed the spark plugs, replaced valve cover gasket and intake gasket. Engine light went off car felt great not even 2 days later I felt the misfire again and there's the engine light back on and white smoke from my exhaust. Brought it back to mechanic I mentioned my coolant issue to him I have to fill my coolant every 2 days no puddles under my car. After looking at my car he said coolant is leaking into cylinder 2 so that's why when I start my car is shakes really bad coolant is burning off from the cylinders. He said I need new heads but they are warped so my best option is to get a new engine or trade my car in. I don't have money for a new engine I'm a single mom I'm upside down on this car because it's only worth $3600. Ford wake up and do something and stop screwing us customers who trusted you and your vehicles and now you left us stranded no help nothing. I have a vehicle that doesn't drive unsafe for my kids and I still need to make car payments on for years still. Someone needs to help and do something

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 2 recalls for different components of the 2017 Ford Escape.

- Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach.
- Consequence: A damaged or missing bushing may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear, and cause the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction. Additionally, the vehicle may roll after the driver selects the 'Park' position. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash or injury.
- Remedy: Dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters, informing owners of the safety risk, were mailed July 1, 2022. Remedy parts are expected to be available in 4th Quarter 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed October 27, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 22S43.

- Summary: Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2017 Ford Escape Titanium and SE vehicles manufactured October 5, 2015, to May 12, 2016. The settings for the closing-force of the power-operated windows may allow the windows to close on an object such as a body part and injure it before the windows auto-reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 118, "Power-Operated Window Systems."
- Consequence: If a window closes on a body part, it can increase the risk of injury.
- Remedy: Ford has notified owners, and dealers will update the power window operating system software, free of charge. The recall began on September 6, 2016. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 16C12.

My review is based on the Titanium 2.0 liter version which was not available in the survey. The 2017 Escape has a newer design on the front end, the rear end and the gear shift. I waited for this version because of the improvements made, especially the location of the gear shift. The vehicle offers great room, great handling, good fuel economy and great comfort. In the month and 1,600 miles that we have owned the 2017 Escape, it has performed exceptionally well. The gas mileage is consistently between 20 and 21 MPG in the city and about 25 MPG on the highway. The steering wheel feels good in the hands and has the option of being heated, which is great on cold mornings. The SYNC 3 is much improved over the previous versions and is fast, responsive and easier to use. The BlueTooth works very well and the ability to use a cord and use your smart phone as the navigation device (Android Auto) but showing on the Escape's big display is great. We opted for the Titanium version with the 301 package and not the moon roof/ navigation options, which saved us $795 on the navigation aspect alone. We really like this Escape because it gives us lots of room for cargo and the ability to take other passengers but handles like a much smaller vehicle. This is an update to my initial review of the 2017 Ford Escape - Titanium version w/ 2.0 liter engine.After owning this SUV for over two years now, we can confidently say that it has exceeded our expectations. Despite having only 8,500 miles on it and taking just one extended trip of about 2,100 miles round trip, we can attest to its exceptional handling, comfortable interior, and quietness. Although the gas mileage is not as impressive as we would have liked, averaging around 20 in the city and only about 24 on the highway, the acceleration is still a high point and is very welcome in situations where quick acceleration is needed. We did notice that the power lift gate button is located next to the fog light button, which can be accidentally pushed while in motion and opening the rear lift gate, but we hope that Ford will address this safety concern in upcoming models. We have taken at least three long round trips of 1,500 miles or more, and the gas mileage is about the same, maybe slightly better, but we're still very happy with the acceleration and comfortable ride. We highly recommend this vehicle to anyone in the market for an SUV. However, we do advise prospective buyers to be mindful of the OEM tires on this model, as they tend to wear out quickly and lose air pressure constantly, which can be a nuisance. We had to replace the tires after just 21,000 miles, but the new tires we put on are great and we haven't had any loss of air pressure. Lastly, while the ingress and exiting of the Ford Escape may be challenging for some, we believe that it is a small price to pay for the exceptional driving experience that this SUV offers.The Ford Escape's automatic slide back feature available with the power seats makes it incredibly easy to get in and out of the car, especially for those with knee, back or hip problems. This feature is truly appreciated as I get older. While I enjoy driving my wife's 2018 Honda Civic, I find it difficult to get in and out of the car. The difference is clear when I switch back to my Ford Escape.

What a wonderful car! However, after test driving both the 1.5 and 2.0 versions around the dealership test route, I found that the 1.5 felt peppy enough for in town and on flat freeways. While it may not be as powerful as the 2.0, it's still a great option for those looking to save $1200. That being said, if you frequently drive in hilly areas or with extra passengers, I would recommend going for the 2.0. My son has the 2.0 in an Edge and it's a beast of a motor with fuel mileage close to the 1.5. It's definitely worth the extra money spent. The EcoBoosts are great, but you either have Eco or boost, not both. Still, the mileage is where EPA rates it, as long as you mind your right foot. The Sony sound system is decent and fills the SUV with good sound and plenty of power. The Sync 3 works well, including the downloaded Alexa feature, and all other controls are easy to use. The safety features work well and the quality of materials is good. The leather seating surfaces, along with the soft touch upper door panels and dash, look and feel great. While it may not be quite the overall interior quality of my daughter's CX5 Mazda, it's still good. The fit and finish is good, except for the right front door needing alignment. It's a solid vehicle with no squeaks or rattles. There's plenty of room in the front, back seat, and cargo area, making it a great option. The handling and ride are top-notch in its class, and the braking is great as well. The steering is light but accurate, and the transmission is smooth shifting. It's very quiet for its class and a pleasure to drive. I highly recommend this USA-assembled vehicle (1.5 made in Romania, I believe), especially with the 2.0, unless you drive in the conditions I mentioned are fine for the 1.5. Don't get me wrong, the 1.5 is still a great option.The Escape has been a reliable car for me, with zero problems so far. I can easily cruise at 80+ mph on the freeway without any issues. However, for the price, there are better options available that can make driving even more enjoyable. These options include more power, less shifting, less engine noise, and better fuel efficiency. At 10,600 miles, I still stand by my previous comments on the Escape's overall fuel efficiency, ease of use, functionality, screen clarity, and size. However, the factory navigation system is a letdown. Although the screen clarity and size are great, the built-in navigation system comes with a 2015 map download, which is outdated. To update the system, you have to buy the update from the dealer for about $100, which is outrageous considering the initial cost of the navigation system. At 35,689 miles, the Escape is still going strong with zero mechanical problems, no squeaks, or rattles. The OEM Michelin tires are at 4, so I'll get 40,000 miles from them. The ride is still smooth and stable with good handling, but the tires are getting noisy. The paint, trim, seating, and all interior surfaces still look like new. Recently, I was notified about a service advisory concerning reprogramming the CPU for increased water pump running time. The dealer took a few hours for the fix, and the engine still runs well. One thing I did notice after the CPU redo is that the transmission shift points seemed to have changed. The transmission shifts into a higher gear sooner and holds that gear a tad longer, which I actually like. Lastly, Ford just released the navigation map upgrade for the Sync 3.Great update! I'm glad to hear that you're still happy with your purchase. While the '17 Escape may not have the fanciest interior design and materials compared to some of its competitors, it is still a solidly built, comfortable, and fun-to-drive SUV. It's important to shop around and get a good price, and it sounds like you did just that. With over 49,000 miles, your Escape has had zero problems, which is impressive. The Nankang SP-9 tires seem to be a great value and a perfect match for your vehicle. It's great to hear that the navigation and Sync 3 updates have been excellent as well. Thank you for sharing your experience with us! The Escape has been a rock-solid vehicle, with no creaks or rattles. The only replacements needed have been for the tires, air filter, and spark plugs. The original brakes are still going strong, and the ride quality and handling are still top-notch. I've found that the Nanking SP-9 tires have been a great bargain, especially on the roads and weather conditions in Southern California. While premium fuel does add a noticeable increase in horsepower, the driveability is excellent with regular fuel as well. The transmission has been excellent, and the quality of the interior materials has held up well, as the interior still looks and works like brand new. The steering, switches, handles, knobs, and other features all still feel and work like new. The AC is still very cold, and the Sync system works well, although I do have some reservations about paying over $125 for a map update every other year. The Sync-supported Waze and Sygic maps work well, but I still prefer the Sync map once it's updated. Overall, the Sync system is excellent, with no problems with voice recognition, etc. The sound quality of the Sony system has stayed the same, which is not great, but once adjusted, it is decent. I am thrilled with my purchase, although the fuel mileage is about 22mpg combined, and as mentioned, the 1.5 is adequate when the Escape is not fully loaded; otherwise, the performance noticeably suffers. I am happy to report that there have been ZERO coolant leaks, which was a concern with some 1.5's.

I've been enjoying my 2017 car for the past 6 months and recently took it out on the highway. It performed great for a while, but unfortunately started to misfire in 75 mph traffic. I took it into the dealership and they found evidence of coolant in the #3 cylinder. However, after waiting for a while, my car was returned and I was told that there was no coolant in the cylinder. The misfire was actually caused by a short to the spark plug. Although I'm not entirely convinced by the fix, I haven't experienced any further issues since my first review in 6/2018. Recently, a small rattle has appeared in the driver's door speaker, but overall my experience with the car has been positive. I don't have much experience with turbochargers, but I have noticed that I need to add up to 1/2 qt of oil between annual check-ups and the exhaust pipe is a bit sooty. I mentioned this to the dealer, but they didn't seem too concerned. Additionally, the fuel-saving feature of the engine shutting off at stop lights and restarting once the brake has been released doesn't seem to be functioning properly. Lastly, the tint film on the passenger side window is peeling off. Overall, I'm still happy with my car and hope to resolve these minor issues soon.

I purchased a 2017 Ford Escape with a 2.0 Ecoboost engine and took a 4000 mile trip just one month after purchasing it from a Ford dealer off a lease. One afternoon, while pulling from a service road to a major highway, the car took off like a jet. It only went about 600 feet before slowing down. I called the dealer and they told me to be careful and take it to a dealer in town if needed. I proceeded home with no problems. Two weeks later, it happened again on a smaller degree, only accelerating about 200 feet. I brought it to the dealer but they could not find a problem. Six months later, it happened again and I brought it to the dealer but they still could not find a reason. I made many calls to Ford Public Relations and talked to a factory representative but I was getting nowhere. The factory representative wants me to take it to another dealer for a second opinion but it will be at my cost if the problem is not found. I called my insurance company and filled them in. They advised me not to drive it. The car has been at the dealer now for 2 weeks. All I want is for the issue to be found and repaired. This is the third Escape I've owned in the last 6 years and it's been great until now. As of 16th July 2018, the car is still at the dealer and in the process of arbitration with CT Lemon Law scheduled for the third time on 14th August 2018. Also, on 16th July 2018, I received a letter from Ford Motor Co. stating that they could not find any issues with the paint. Where is their chain of command?

I rented various cars, including Toyotas, Jeeps, and GMCs, for 4 years in Anchorage, Alaska where I worked. However, none of them compare to the Ford Escape. The handling is superb, and the 2.0 turbo provides excellent acceleration. What I love most about this car is how easy it is to get in and out of. The seats are at the perfect height, and even my team of 15 engineers agreed that it's the easiest car to enter and exit. As I'm getting older, this feature is becoming increasingly important to me. I'm considering the Escape as my next car, but I do wish it had the option for Automatic Emergency Braking. If it did, it would be the complete package. I've read that Ford is adding this feature to the Mustang next year, which is great news for those who need it. I have all the driver aids available for my 2017 Mustang, and I believe that Automatic Emergency Braking will soon become mandatory. Overall, the Ford Escape is the best car in its class, even compared to the Mazda CX-5 which I find boring and claustrophobic.

In 2017, Ford made the engine walls thinner to increase gas mileage and save weight on the Escape model. Unfortunately, at 27,000 miles, the engine failed with blow by between 1 and 2 cylinders. However, Ford quickly ordered a new engine and even changed the front axle and front wheel bearings while the vehicle was in the shop. Although there were some issues with the flywheel and turbocharger, Ford covered the cost under warranty, which was a relief. Despite some mechanic mistakes, the vehicle was eventually fixed and returned to the owner. While it did experience some significant issues, it was fortunate that all the repairs were covered under warranty. Overall, the Escape was a comfortable and safe vehicle, but it did have some quality issues. Ford maintenance could have been better, but the friendly staff at the dealership made the experience more pleasant.

The Escape had many updates for 2017. The new exterior styling is a big improvement over previous years. I really enjoy the wicked quick acceleration of the 2.0 ecoboost engine, and the Sony sound system sounds awesome. However, after one month of ownership, the windshield developed a crack on the interior layer of the windshield. Nothing hit the window. I stopped at the Ford dealership to have the manager look at the glass, and he agreed that the window should be replaced under warranty. The service department took pictures of the cracked windshield to send to Ford's warranty department for approval. Ford had me return to the dealer two more times because they weren't satisfied with the pictures that the service department took, plus they wanted them to run a test on the glass to check the exterior for chips, dings, and etc. I think they were trying their hardest to find a reason to deny the warranty claim. Despite these issues, the factory Michelin tires seem to be holding up well; however, the tread pattern isn't the best for snow and ice. The 4wd system really struggled on the snowy hills with the factory tires. I recommend a set of Michelin IceX tires for winter driving because the added traction is needed in the Northeast. Additionally, the entry/exit function of the Titanium's driver seat is a nice option when it works. Although, a few times the seat didn't move forward when the Escape is started, and the dealers can't find a fix for the occasional glitches. Lastly, a protective panel underneath the vehicle came loose and had to be tightened. It rattled like crazy at speeds between 35-55mph. Unfortunately, the Escape has developed a stalling problem in recent weeks. It stalled in reverse as I was backing out of my driveway two weeks ago, and a couple days ago it stalled while in drive as I was pulling out of a parking space at Walmart. The mechanics couldn't find the cause for the reverse stall that happened.The Escape is scheduled to go back to the service department tomorrow to have the stalling situation looked at again. Although the stalling has only occurred at slow speeds, it is concerning and I hope it can be resolved before it becomes a bigger issue. Unfortunately, I have also experienced some issues with SYNC 3 and the backup camera software, which can be frustrating at times. The radio has also switched on its own a few times. Despite these issues, I am hopeful that the Ford engineering department will find a solution soon. I have taken the Escape to the dealer several times, but they have been unable to find a permanent fix. I am disappointed with the situation, but I remain optimistic that it will be resolved. Update: After owning this Escape for 11 months, I have unfortunately experienced several issues with the vehicle. Although the SYNC 3 system has been updated, it still occasionally acts up. The vehicle has also stalled several times, which is concerning. However, I was able to catch the transmission issue on video and the dealership was able to address it. While I have had some negative experiences with this vehicle, I remain hopeful that these issues will be resolved. Update: 6/28/18 Unfortunately, I continue to experience issues with this vehicle.This Escape has been to Ford dealerships for repairs six times since the end of September. It has had a new ignition coil and spark plug replaced in September. In October the PCM (Powertrain Control Module) was replaced. Since mid-December, it has been at the dealership because there is antifreeze in number 1 cylinder. I am told that I will not have my Escape back until mid-January to early February. The mechanic believes the head gasket is in need of replacement, and in the worst case, the whole engine. However, I am happy to report that the Escape has been running smoothly since the head was replaced in January. Despite the cosmetic damage caused by a deer in February, the Escape held up better than expected. While I cannot recommend purchasing another Escape or Ford product, I am pleased to say that the Escape has had no issues since my last update on 1/5/20.

I purchased a 2017 Escape 2.0 SE in 2016. Unfortunately, at 16k miles, I began experiencing a rattling noise from the front struts and a stiffer ride than when it was new, almost as if they were worn out. Despite numerous dealership visits, my issue was not resolved and I was even lied to about the cause. As a result, I am pursuing the lemon law. Additionally, the transmission has a 2 to 3 gear hesitation which causes the car to pause and jerk each time it shifts. The dealership has only provided excuses and outdated TSBs to fix the issue. While I had high hopes for Ford's customer service, my experience has been disappointing. I regret to say that I will not be purchasing another Ford and I would advise others to consider their options carefully.

The Escape is a great little car! It's pleasant to drive, has a monstrous amount of cargo space, and gets good gas mileage. The ride may not be Lincoln quality, but it's still comfortable enough. I would definitely recommend this car to anyone. However, I would like to share a word of caution. If you're considering purchasing one of these cars, please avoid the blue color (Lightning Blue Metallic). There have been numerous reports of paint defects, such as peeling and flaking off. Unfortunately, my car is one of them. Additionally, rust has appeared behind the rear passenger doors. Although I keep the vehicle clean, Ford is currently refusing to address the problem. Since it's three months out of the bumper-to-bumper warranty, the dealership is attempting to refuse to address the problem. I'm currently looking at $1,500+ in repair costs on a three-year-old car, which is completely unacceptable. So while I think it's an excellent little car, please take my warning into consideration!

Hello! I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to share my experience with my 2017 Ford Escape Titanium 2.0 4WD. Although I purchased it new in November 2017, I have unfortunately been experiencing some issues with it. Despite having a new engine installed, I am still having some misfire problems on multiple cylinders. The dealer replaced the spark plug and coil pack on cylinder 3, but unfortunately, the engine light came back on with a misfire on cylinder 4. This has been an ongoing issue since September 2018, and I must say, I am quite disappointed. As a long-time fan of the Escape (this is our family's tenth one!), I had high hopes for this car. However, I am still hopeful that we can find a solution to these issues. Thank you for taking the time to read my message.
