Ford Escape hybrid problems
The Ford Escape is a compact crossover SUV manufactured and marketed by Ford Motor Company since the 2001 model year. The first Ford SUV derived from a car platform, the Escape fell below the Ford Explorer in size; the Escape is currently sized between the Ford EcoSport and Ford Edge. The 2004 Ford Escape Hybrid was the first hybrid-electric vehicle from Ford, and the first hybrid produced as an SUV.
The first two generations of the Escape used the Ford CD2 platform (jointly developed with Mazda), leading to the release of the Mazda Tribute and Mercury Mariner; as with the Escape, both the Tribute and Mariner were marketed in North America. In Europe, the Escape was initially branded as the Ford Maverick from 2001 to 2008 (replacing a Nissan-produced SUV).
Under the mid-2000s "One Ford" globalization strategy, the third and fourth-generation designs of the Escape have been unified with the Ford Kuga, designed by Ford of Europe. Sharing a common body and chassis underpinnings (and several engines), the Escape and Kuga are manufactured in their home markets. As with previous generations, the fourth-generation Escape is offered with gasoline, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid options. Outside of North America, the Ford Escape is marketed in Australia, China, and Taiwan.

My steering wheel was INCREDIBLY tight so thankfully I was already in the parking lot and was able to get to a parking spot. I looked down and my dash said "Power Steering Assist Fault" I looked everything up and there is a recall for this from 2008-2011 models I believe but my VIN isn't under that coverage

Ford Escape hybrid 2006
- Date Of Incident: 2024-01-20
- Date Complaint: 2024-10-14
- VIN: 1FMCU96HX6K
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: Like so many others, I was making a sharp right turn when the vehicle stopped without warning causing cars behind me to slam on their brakes to avoid a chain rear end collision event on a busy intersection. Another driver offered help and got it restarted but the power steering stopped functioning. He pulled it off the road and I then had to drive it home. The light came on after saying "power steering service" and a wrench light. There were no codes to be read and I have been unable to get a straight answer from mechanics. The last said I need the power steering module and the rack and pinion. I finally got him to give me the specific part numbers, both of which are DISCONTINUED. Last week, I told another mechanic the problems and parts I needed and he gave me a total guestimate under $2000, so I decided to go with them and they ordered the parts. When I looked at the estimate, they did not match the part numbers I had been given, and I just found out they didnt include the module because it's discontinued. I cancelled the work. I have no options left that I can afford. THIS PROBLEM IS PERVASIVE IN THESE FORD ESCAPE MODELS AND YEARS, yet they haven't recalled any before 2008. This needs to be addressed because Ive also had the intermittent engine shutdown on the road saying "STOP NOW". Luckily, no accidents or injuries yet, but I wouldn't trust this to travel beyond my area. Shame on Ford!

Ford Escape hybrid 2010
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-17
- Date Complaint: 2024-09-29
- VIN: 1FMCU0DG6AK
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: While driving, the brakes have no pressure. When starting the vehicle, the brakes go all the way to the floor. I took my car to several difference garages, and they determined the brake booster was the issue. No repair has been done, but the brakes go all the way to the floor and is difficult to stop. The 2nd issue is after the local Ford dealership performed work on the fuel system for a recall, the vehicle will sputter after refueling. This will cause the vehicle to almost shut off at a stop. I called the dealership, but they won't reexamine the recall. If I fill my tank up when I refuel, the fumes of the gas smell so badly you can't drive for a day after.

- Date Complaint: 2024-09-19
- VIN: 1FMCU93178K
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVE TO COLLEGE AND STOPPED FOR GAS. SHE CALLED ME SAYING THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE. BUT SHE HAD NOT LOST POWER STEERING. SHE CALLED ME A FEW HOURS LATER SAYING SHE COULD NOT TURN HER STEERING WHEEL TO GET TURNED AROUND TO LEAVE THE SCHOOL. I CAME TO ASSIST HER AND SURE ENOUGH THE STEERING WAS VERY HARD TO TURN, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST WAS BLINK ON THE DASH AND THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. I FINALLY GOT THE CAR TURNED AROUND AND STARTED BACK TO OUR MECHANIAC. SHE FOLLOWED BEHIND. I FOUND THE SLOWER I WOULD GO THE HARDER IT BECAME TO STEER. I DID A SOLID 50-55 MPH ALL THE WAY THERE BUT COULD FEEL THE TIGHTNESS IN THE STEERING WHEEL. WE MADE IT TO THE GARAGE. THE MECHANIC CALLED THE NEXT DAY AND SAID HE COULDN'T GET IT TO START AND WE NEEDED TO TAKE TO A FORD DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE CAR SCANNED. WE CALLED THE FORD DEALERSHIP, THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T GET TO IT FOR ANOTHER 2-3 WEEKS AND REFERRED US TO A COMPANY IN A 4-5 HOUR AWAY TO GET A USED PART AND COME TO US TO FIX. WE RESEARCHED IF THERE WERE ANY RECALLS AND FOUND 14S05. SINCE WE ARE THE SECOND OWNER OF THE CAR AND NEVER WERE NOTIFIED OF A RECALL OR WERE TOLD ABOUT A CURRENT RECALL AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE, WE STARTED TO SEARCH IF THE RECALL HAD BEEN FIXED BY THE FIRST OWNER (OUT OF POCKET) OR THROUGH THE RECALL. PLEASE ANY INFORMATION AND/OR GUIDANCE WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

I'm so glad I got this car about a month ago and I have been thoroughly impressed so far! I went with the limited edition one and I'm very happy I did. The navigation is one of the best in the industry, not to mention the helpful fuel economy screen and Sirius information. I believe I'm on my 4th tank of gas, and my last one got 31.5 MPG overall. You can cruise to 40 MPH on electric if you don't accelerate too hard, and the Econ AC is a huge plus. Although the doors are made of cheap looking plastic material that gets scuffed easily, don't let this fool you, the car is amazing! If you hurry, you can still get a pretty nice tax credit that helps offset the hybrid premium.

I got my 2009 Ford Escape Hybrid in 2018 with only 65K km on it. I'm happy to say that I haven't had any mechanical issues so far (except for some rust, but that's understandable since the car came from Alberta). The 4WD is great for off-roading and the CVT transmission has been reliable even when I'm rock-crawling on decommissioned logging roads. Whether I'm driving in the city or the countryside, this 4WD hybrid is always comfortable and costs much less to run than traditional ICE SUVs.

I've had the vehicle for about 6 months and I must say, I've really enjoyed it so far! It looks great and I'm getting great mileage (31 average). Unfortunately, about a month after I bought it, it wouldn't start. However, it turned out to be a simple fix - there was just a loose wire in the built-in security system. Last week, the wrench light went on and I had to have a vent to cool the batteries replaced. I'm hoping this isn't a sign of things to come, but overall I'm still very happy with my purchase!

I am a car enthusiast and have owned many new cars over the years. In my experience, this car is truly the best. To improve gas mileage, I recommend changing the air filter to the K&N and using Mobil 1 oil. When I try, I can get up to 41MPG, and even when my wife drives, we still get a constant 30MPG, which is great. She doesn't worry about mileage and has never gotten better than 17MPG with any other car she's had, regardless of make or model. I want to thank Ford for taking a large step towards fuel efficiency. They are ahead of the game and the others have a lot of catching up to do. Go Ford!

I'm on my third escape hybrid now, having owned a 2006, 2007, and now a 2008. I'm really impressed with the upgrades from the previous models. My 2007 had a great nav system and was also my only AWD one. I didn't notice much difference in handling between that and the front-wheel-drive models. Unfortunately, my 2006 was totaled in an accident, so I'm not sure how far it could have gone. My 2007 made it to 251,000 miles, but started using a lot of oil shortly after 200,000 miles. My 2008 now has 234,567 miles and still uses no oil. Everything still works, including the cruise, air, and rear wiper. I've only had to replace a couple of wheel bearings, a sensor for power steering, and a tie rod so far, and each repair cost $200 or less. I'm hoping to top the 300,000 mile mark with this one, just like many did in New York when they had them in their taxi fleet. At that point, they were even selling for $2000 each.

I read all the reviews and test drove most vehicles in the SUV/truck market. I ultimately chose the Escape due to its great mileage and positive reviews on performance. However, I have only been getting 25 mpg and am a bit disappointed. If you are looking for more cargo space, a better interior with more convenience, or need to tow or haul, I would recommend the Toyota Highlander, especially if you live out west and travel faster than 60 mph. The 4-cylinder gas engine and weak electric just don't cut it, as it has to run at too high RPM's above 60 mph to deliver the mileage. In Montana, the limit is 75 mph, and during my last trip at that speed, I only got 22 mpg. Everything else I read about it, both good and bad, has been listed by others, especially the need to plug it in.

As someone who previously owned a 06 Ford Escape hybrid, I would like to share some insights with anyone considering the hybrid models 06 & 07. Please keep in mind that there were some issues I encountered with my hybrid. For instance, the air conditioning system would stop working when traveling under 25 MPH, unless you switch to Max Air. However, this would make the gas motor run all the time, which defeats the purpose of buying a hybrid. According to the factory, this is how it was designed, so you may have to live with it or consider other options. Personally, I decided to switch to a new Edge. Although I never achieved the suggested mileage, I still managed to average around 31 MPG on the freeway. I also learned that the trade-in value wasn't as good as my Ford salesperson suggested, but that was my mistake for listening to them. I hope this information helps you make an informed decision. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions!

Although there have been several issues with my car, I am confident in its overall performance. These issues include: 1. Steering locking up while driving, which was resolved with a replacement under warranty. 2. A rear window leak, which was also addressed. 3. Missing wiring for the heated mirror, which was fixed. 4. A busted A/C blend actuator within a year, which was promptly repaired. 5. Brakes and rotors needing replacement at 30k, despite the car's regenerative braking system. 6. A jerky transition to mechanical brakes in rainy weather and too loose a transition in hot/dry weather. 7. A grinding/rubbing noise when turning sharp left that has yet to be resolved. Despite these issues, I remain confident in the overall quality of my car.

I bought a 2007 Ford Escape Hybrid in September 2010 with 30,000 miles on it. I have been driving it for 90 days now and have noticed that I feel more of a surge when I brake and/or accelerate, and it changes from electric mode to gas. I don't remember feeling that surge before. I took it to the dealer (unfortunately, I ended up purchasing it from a Toyota dealership, not a Ford), and they said that the computer indicated there was nothing wrong with it. I'm not sure if I believe them. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Also, my gas mileage has gone down from 34 mpg city when I first purchased it to 28 mpg city now. I live in Illinois if that makes any difference. Does anyone know anything about this?

In cold weather, I found that my fuel efficiency was lower than expected, with only 19-21 mpg in city driving and 26 mpg on the highway. Despite driving carefully, I was unable to achieve more than 24 mpg in the city, and I received some honks from impatient drivers when I took off slowly to stay in electric mode. I chose a front-wheel drive to save fuel, but unfortunately, I found that it slipped a lot in even the slightest amount of snow, and I even got stuck twice while other front-wheel drive cars drove by me. Upon further research, I discovered that this car does not have traction control, which may explain the issues I experienced. Overall, it was a frustrating experience, and I would caution those in cold weather states to be aware of these potential issues. I ultimately decided to trade in my hybrid for a 4-cylinder front-wheel drive car, which provided similar mileage in cold temperatures and no slippage in snow. However, I do believe that the hybrid may be a good option for those in warmer states. Thank you for considering my experience.
