The Ford Edge is a range of crossover SUVs manufactured by the Ford Motor Company. Introduced for the 2007 model year, the Edge is the first mid-size CUV marketed by Ford in North America; the model line is currently in its second generation. Deriving its name from a trim package of the Ford Ranger, the Ford Edge is positioned between the Ford Escape and the Ford Explorer within the Ford product line.

Sharing its underpinnings with the Ford Fusion sedan, Ford has also produced the model line as the Lincoln MKX (since 2019, the Lincoln Nautilus). The second generation is also marketed by Ford of Europe, positioned between the Kuga (Escape) and the Explorer PHEV.

All production of the first two generations of the Ford Edge is sourced from Ford of Canada at Oakville Assembly (Oakville, Ontario) alongside the Nautilus.

The third generation launched in 2023 is called the Edge L, and was first produced and sold exclusively in China.

ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-09-09
  • VIN: 2FMPK3K95HB
  • Components: ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: The check engine light would intermittently light up and then go out for a few months prior to system failure. In the week prior to failure, we took the vehicle to AutoZone and used their engine code scanner to try to diagnose the problem. Based on the result of that, we first changed the spark plugs, which initially made the check engine light turn off for about a week, then it came back on. We then replaced the ignition coils, the check engine light never went out. A couple of days after that, while I was driving home from work one morning, the check engine light started to flash at me, which it had not done before, the car started shaking, and the RPM pin started dancing but would not exceed 2000RPM. We took it to the dealership where they diagnosed a coolant intrusion in cylinder 2 and told us this is a known problem with Turbo Boost engines from 2015-2018 and that there is currently a class action lawsuit underway to push Ford Motor Company to make it an official recall. They recommended replacing the engine or trading the vehicle in for a new car. The vehicle was then towed to an independent mechanic, who confirmed the dealership's diagnosis and replaced the engine with a 2019 ReMan turbo boost engine, including brand new turbo hoses and gaskets. The total bill came to $8367.64

Due to an engineering default, we had to have our engine replaced. The dealer informed us that this is a common issue and they even keep the engine in stock. Although we believed that this was Ford's responsibility, they were only willing to cover 60% of the cost, which ended up being a little over $2000. Unfortunately, this experience has led us to reconsider our loyalty to the brand.

Renting the car you intend to buy and driving it for 2-3 days in as many different conditions as possible is the most important thing to do. A car is a very personal thing and it is important to ensure that it meets your specific needs. For this review, I will start by addressing my main concern and then offer my insights on other aspects of the vehicle. I test drove the EDGE and was impressed with its performance. I also test drove the 2.0l turbo SEL as well as a V6. After shopping around for the best price, I found a fantastic deal ($1500 lower than all the rest) in the middle of the state. Despite some minor issues with wind noise and squeaks and creaks from around the shifter, I am confident in my decision to purchase this vehicle. I am disappointed, however, that the doors were not put on properly. I hope that Ford will improve their quality control in the future. My mother's medical news required me to care for her for a few months, but now I expect Ford and their dealers to correct these issues immediately. Although the first dealer I went to tried, they were unable to permanently correct the creaking noises and the door was only partially fixed. I am now in the process of going to another dealer. I have contacted Ford and will continue to assert my rights until some type of restitution is provided. These issues must be corrected. I did not pay 35k to drive around from dealer to dealer trying to fix Ford's problems. The biggest problem, in my estimation, is the quantity over quality mentality. Despite spending millions of dollars on research and testing, these basic issues slip right by. The problems I am experiencing are unacceptable, unforgivable, and reflect very badly on those at the factory and towards the top of the management chain. However, if you don't mind wind noise, squeaky/creaky plastic, and crooked doors, the rest of the SUV is actually quite nice. The steering, acceleration, and braking are very good. I purchased the 3.5l V6 Titanium, which is not an option on this site, but it does exist. The technology is quite good, and the 8 in. screen is very nice. The Sony stereo has some nice features and delivers good sound. The SUV is spacious, and the climate controls work very well, as do the heated seats. Gas mileage is decent for me at about 21 mpg combined. I am very careful never to exceed 2500 rpms, but I can live with that. However, each person is different, and this may not be an issue for some people. The suspension is firm, which may not suit everyone's preferences. However, I find it to be smooth and comfortable. Despite some minor issues such as squeaking and wind noise, this car has the potential to be an excellent vehicle. I am willing to update my review if any further issues arise.

Hey there! Just wanted to let you know that the flex plate may have some issues with the weld joints from the factory. It's something that Ford is aware of and we're working to address it. Thanks for bringing it to our attention!

The 2017 Ford Edge titanium is a great SUV that offers a lot of features and comfort. However, it is important to note that there have been some issues with the 2.0 L eco boost engine. Despite this, Ford has been proactive in addressing the issue and has provided solutions to customers who have experienced problems. While it is unfortunate that the engine issue has caused some customers to lose faith in the brand, it is important to remember that Ford is a reputable company that is committed to providing quality products and services.

I have had the pleasure of driving my Edge Titanium for many miles and I must say, I really enjoy the interior and exterior design of the SUV. However, I have had some issues with the engine which have been quite frustrating. When I purchased the vehicle from a dealership, it had around 30k miles on it. Unfortunately, at 58k miles, I had to have the head gasket replaced by another dealership. I didn't feel that they did a thorough job of determining the root cause of the issue. Recently, at 93k miles, the original dealership where I bought the vehicle determined that the block had porosity and needed an engine swap. I had to pay for this out of pocket, which was quite expensive. If these blocks were known to have porosity from the foundry, they should have been captured at the factory and quarantined. It's disappointing that the consumer has to find out later and pay for a new engine in a 2017 vehicle. I was also disappointed to learn that this issue is common in the Escapes because it too has the 2.0L Ecoboost. Despite these issues, I remain hopeful that Ford will improve their quality in the future.

I've driven many SUVs before settling on my Edge. I had a Toyota Highlander on lease that I liked, but the cost of keeping a 2-year-old car was not justifiable, and the seats were very uncomfortable. After test driving around 6 different small to medium SUVs, I was going to settle for a Honda CR-V. My main goal was to be comfortable driving and not feel every bump, and to duplicate the Highlander's ride without spending a ton of money. On impulse, we decided to try a Ford. I had been driving Toyotas for the last 12 years, but they just aren't comfortable to sit in. When I drove the Edge, I was like, 'Wow!! Very nice ride!!' The only two negatives are that it doesn't have great acceleration and both front doors stick, which bothers my husband more than me. I'm not sure if the dealer could fix it since I forgot to mention it. Funny enough, this is my second Ford. The first one was a Ford Taurus, 1995 I think, and I loved that car too.

I purchased Edge titanium about one month ago. It's a fantastic SUV with great value. As a previous Honda CRV owner, I can confidently say that the Edge surpasses the CRV in every way. The driving is smooth and quiet, and the keyless entry feature and other electronic features are awesome. I especially love the foot sensor technology for trunk door opening. Overall, I'm extremely happy with my purchase!

This SUV is almost in the category of a muscle car. It's incredibly fast. The 2.7L ecoboost V6 has been an awesome engine so far, with 50,000 miles, 315 hp, and 350 ftlbs of torque.

  4. Jerry Schroeder 2024-10-26

Other than getting about 14 mpg in local driving, I must say that I find my 2017 Ford Edge to be a fantastic SUV! It is so responsive and powerful, and I really appreciate how easy it is to get in and out of (especially since I am 80 years old). The power seats are incredibly comfortable, and everything works exactly as promised!

Please take a moment to review the standard equipment and select a color that you will enjoy for years to come. When I made my purchase, I had a clear idea of what I was looking for and the price I was willing to pay, and I was able to secure a great deal.
