2022 Ford Edge problems
The Ford Edge is a range of crossover SUVs manufactured by the Ford Motor Company. Introduced for the 2007 model year, the Edge is the first mid-size CUV marketed by Ford in North America; the model line is currently in its second generation. Deriving its name from a trim package of the Ford Ranger, the Ford Edge is positioned between the Ford Escape and the Ford Explorer within the Ford product line.
Sharing its underpinnings with the Ford Fusion sedan, Ford has also produced the model line as the Lincoln MKX (since 2019, the Lincoln Nautilus). The second generation is also marketed by Ford of Europe, positioned between the Kuga (Escape) and the Explorer PHEV.
All production of the first two generations of the Ford Edge is sourced from Ford of Canada at Oakville Assembly (Oakville, Ontario) alongside the Nautilus.
The third generation launched in 2023 is called the Edge L, and was first produced and sold exclusively in China.

Common 2022 Ford Edge problems
The 2022 Ford Edge has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners of this car. These issues include:
- Car brake failure: A few owners have reported instances of car brake failure, where the vehicle accelerates instead of braking when the brake pedal is pressed. This can lead to accidents and significant damage to the vehicle. It is unclear whether this issue is related to a manufacturing defect or other factors, but it is a cause for concern for some owners.
- Rearview camera display issues: The 2022 Ford Edge has been recalled due to a software error that may cause the rearview camera to display a blank or distorted image when the vehicle is in reverse. This can reduce the driver's view of what is behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
- In-car electronics issues: Some owners have reported problems with the in-car electronics, including issues with the infotainment system, backup camera, and sensors. These issues can cause inconvenience and frustration for drivers, and may require repairs or replacements to fix.
- Seat heater and speaker issues: A few owners have reported problems with the seat heater, where it does not turn off when it should. Additionally, some owners have reported issues with the speakers, where they do not work on one side of the car. These issues may require repairs or replacements to fix.
It is important to note that these issues may not affect all 2022 Ford Edge vehicles, and some owners may not experience any problems at all. However, these common problems have been reported by a significant number of owners, and may be worth considering when purchasing or maintaining a 2022 Ford Edge.

BACK OVER PREVENTION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-03-15
- VIN: 2FMPK4J91NB
- Components: BACK OVER PREVENTION
- Summary: Bought this vehicle from Bayou Ford in LaPlace, LA around 2 months ago. The back up camera stopped working correctly after first month. Paid to have reset at Ford dealer in Slidell, they said wasn't on recall. It's got squiggly lines when selecting reverse on shifter, unable to view behind me. This is dangerous as it's a large vehicle and I fear running over something or into another vehicle out of view. This is the exact problem as the recall indicates. The Slidell dealer said it would be over 1K to replace a camera and I don't have it after just buying thr vehicle. This should not be happening with a 2 year old vehicle. Can someone please help me? SEAT BELTS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-02-26
- VIN: 2FMPK4J92NB
- Components: SEAT BELTS
- Summary: This vehicle was purchased new during April of 2023. Since the date of purchase it has been and continues to be impossible for a heavyset person to fasten the seatbelt while seated in the right rear seat. This is due to the following facts. The seat belt buckle at that location ONLY is physically different than all the other buckles in the rest of the vehicle. This renders a standard Edge seatbelt extension unusable at that location ONLY. While a part number exists for this unique, single location application seat belt extension, THE PART ITSELF DOES NOT ACTUALLY EXIST. Despite having been on "backorder" for nearly one year now, Ford is evidently refusing to manufacture and/or supply this vital safety appliance. Accordingly, the fact remains that, each and every time our heavyset family member rides in the right rear seat of this otherwise wonderful vehicle, THEIR LIFE IS POTENTIALLY AT RISK! I checked with the parts department at Riverview Ford in Oswego, IL yesterday and was told that "the part is still on backorder with no ETA." Your help is respectfully requested in resolving this crucial safety issue. The vehicle was not repaired. - Summary: Unintended Hands-Free Liftgate Activation: When standing next to or loading items into the rear cargo area the lift gate will begin to close on its own. On two occassions I have been hit on the head and also on my shoulder. No injuries were incurred. This is a random occurance. The issue has been reported to the Ford delership, McDonald Ford in Freeland MI, on several occasions. The most recent being April 13, 2023. The service advisor presented me with a Ford bulletin, SSM 51360, which states "This is a normal condition and repairs are not necessary." I feel that this is a safety issue, especially for seniors who may not be able to react as quickly as I did in order to avoid injury.
STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-03-18
- Number Of Injuries: 1
- VIN: 2FMPK4K9XNB
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: I have had the liftgate lower unexpectedly in two separate incidents causing injury. The first happed two weeks ago at a filling station. I was exited the passenger side and walked behind the car to reach the pump. When I got to the pump I turned around to go back to get my wallet. At that moment I struck the liftgate and it cut my head because it had opened without warning and I turned directly into it. (I am 6'2" tall). The second time was today. I was putting groceries into the car and I turned to get more groceries from the cart. As I turned back towards the car, the liftgate was lowering without warning and clobbered me in the head again. I have a picture from today. While these are the only two occurrences that I was injured, there have been others where I was able to quickly catch the tailgate as it tried to close while I was standing there. In all of these cases I do not have my foot near the sensor. I will be calling the dealer tomorrow to make an appointment. This is very dangerous particularly for taller people. When the gate closes there is a faint sound coming from the front of the car but it is hard to hear when you are in a parking lot. This has been going on since purchase, but this month is the first time I was injured.

- VIN: 2FMPK4K91NB
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: The day after purchasing my new 2022 Ford Edge, I was driving from the grocery store when I noticed a clacking sound. I stopped the car and looked around and under the car. It appeared that a metal band that held up a tank was dragging on the ground. I drove half a mile to my home and called my car dealer. He instructed me to drive the car to the Ford service department, about 5 miles away. I am presently waiting to receive a report from the service department.I am concerned that this is an example of a quality control failure and that it was an unreasonable safety risk to drag a gas tank full of fuel on the road.

The dealership service dept. had the vehicle for over 2 weeks trying to diagnose the problem in conjunction with Ford engineers. they finally determined the the issue was a bad ABS module. They then informed me that the needed parts were not available and it might take 2weeks, 2months or longer to get. This condition has existed since the day the car was delivered. As of now, the car has about 600 miles on it. We're reluctant to drive the car because we feel the vehicle is unsafe, particularly in winter road conditions. We are at a loss as to how to proceed and are hoping you cab help us resolve this problem. Thank you, [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-10-14
- Number Of Injuries: 1
- VIN: 2FMPK4K97NB
- Components: LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES
- Summary: The faulty back door lift and/or sensor resulted in the back door closing without activating the close button and it hit me in the head and shoulders several times while I put groceries in and/or removing them from the back area. I was unable to activate the foot sensor to open or close the back door when I purposely tried to open the back door using the foot sensor. After bringing the vehicle to the dealer for an oil change and informing them that this occurred 3 months after purchase, they informed me they did not have time to look at it and I had to make a different appointment. Also they stated they did not have any other concerns or complaints involving the back door closing without activating the close button. We live 4 hours away from the dealer and when I made the appointment to have it checked, that morning before leaving home, my husband went to help me pack afew items in the back and the door slammed so hard and hit him in the head causing a small laceration, headache and neck discomfort. At that point, the door did not stay open at all and slammed closed hard, with all the weight of the door. The dealer did not have the part and told me to be careful until fixed. I am afraid to use the back area now because it is hard for me to hold the door open to use the back. The door slams with such strong force that it could cause great bodily injury if you were caught there when the door slammed shut. The part was ordered the same day on 10/14/22 and I did not get an appointment until 11/2/22 to get it fixed. A great SAFETY concern especially if one had small children and this happened.

I recently drove over 1000 miles on an open highway with no traffic, where the speed limit ranged from 55-70 mph. According to the dashboard, my car's fuel efficiency was between 17 MPG in the city and 21 MPG on a full tank. Unfortunately, on a full tank, the dash read 402 miles until empty, but I was only able to go 385 miles. I used both regular and premium fuel from Shell, but I found it frustrating that gas prices are so high that we have to use premium or plus to get good mileage. It would be great if car manufacturers could design cars that don't require premium fuel.

As a loyal customer who has owned three Ford Edges, I was disappointed with the 2022 model. I found the tablet component to be difficult to use and distracting, as it required taking my eyes off the road to access most controls. Additionally, the 2 litre turbo engine was quite loud and not as smooth as I had hoped. While the car handled decently, it did not meet the high quality standards of my previous Edges. I also experienced issues with the tablet freezing up, which could only be resolved by completely shutting off and restarting the car. Ultimately, I decided to part ways with the vehicle and will not be considering any future Ford products for my household.
