2015 Ford Edge problems
The Ford Edge is a range of crossover SUVs manufactured by the Ford Motor Company. Introduced for the 2007 model year, the Edge is the first mid-size CUV marketed by Ford in North America; the model line is currently in its second generation. Deriving its name from a trim package of the Ford Ranger, the Ford Edge is positioned between the Ford Escape and the Ford Explorer within the Ford product line.
Sharing its underpinnings with the Ford Fusion sedan, Ford has also produced the model line as the Lincoln MKX (since 2019, the Lincoln Nautilus). The second generation is also marketed by Ford of Europe, positioned between the Kuga (Escape) and the Explorer PHEV.
All production of the first two generations of the Ford Edge is sourced from Ford of Canada at Oakville Assembly (Oakville, Ontario) alongside the Nautilus.
The third generation launched in 2023 is called the Edge L, and was first produced and sold exclusively in China.

Spoke with mechanic who said to have it towed not to drive it. Diagnosed with engine failure. Has approximately 103,000 miles on it. One owner. Routine maintenance. No issues with the car. Just noticed there is a recall in 2021-2022 ford edges with 2.7 choose engine. Sounds like my car. I have read and heard from several mechanics that this is a known problem with the Edge in particular. Would be interested in some feedback. This is a devastating expense and if this is a common theme I think Ford should be held responsible. I would appreciate a response. Thank you.

Have reached out to both dealership and ford customer service and they haven't been helpful.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-26
- VIN: 2FMPK4K98FB
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: My vehicle’s flex plate is defective and, after having researched this further, it is a known manufacturer’s (Ford) issue. Despite this fact, Ford has conveniently issued a “recall” that eliminates my being able to have their defective part replaced and paid for by them. Straub vs Ford Motor Company, a lawsuit filed in 2021, attests to this fact. My question is how is Ford allowed to get away with this? It shouldn’t matter how long or how many likes the consumer has on the vehicle if the defective part and subsequent need for repair is not due to any negligence on the consumer’s part. I would appreciate any assistance or guidance in how to proceed with this matter. Thank you.

- Summary: coolant intrusion in cylinders on the engine 2.7 ecoboost Ford made a bad engineering decision on the headers and block to allow coolant to flow through the gaskets to get to the other side of the cylinder. Now with a vehicle only 98K miles I'm expected to pay more than the car is worth to get it fixed or be out of a vehicle or find a scrape yard or someone to buy it off of me just to save some money. Road salt or other contaminants may corrode the electric power steering gear motor attachment bolts.
- Consequence: If the bolts corrode, the steering gear motor may detach from the gear housing resulting in a loss of power steering assist, requiring a greater steering effort, especially at lower speeds, and increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the steering gear motor bolts and apply a wax sealer. This is one of the best-priced vehicles for all its options. I was able to get every option I could think of (outside a heated steering wheel), and most car brands didn't even offer all these options or wanted $10k more for all of them. I am exceptionally happy with the mpg, handling, and technology. Ford is truly putting out their best effort, and my consumer confidence is rapidly climbing. Keep up the great work, Ford!

I recently switched to an Edge Titanium after driving Jeep Grand Cherokees for 30 years, mainly due to the price. I am very satisfied with the 2.0 L Eco-Boost turbo-charged engine, which has some typical turbo lag, but it's not a problem. The mixed use mileage is consistently between 21-23 mpg. Although the ground clearance is less than the Jeep and there is no selectable low range gear, I haven't had any issues so far, even with my long steep snow-covered driveway. The handling is good and the steering control is crisp. Overall, I am completely satisfied with my purchase decision and think it's a great vehicle. The original tires were unacceptable for uphill use in snow, but after replacing them with snow tires, everything is now okay.

Make sure you take it for a good test drive. The 2015 Ford Edge may need a bit of cleaning, as there is dirt throughout the inside of the vehicle. Additionally, some of the seals on the doors may be loose or coming off, and there appears to be a white substance on the inside back of the lift gate. You may also notice some white particles throughout the inside of the vehicle.

I have a late model 2015 which is essentially the new 2016 model. One thing I find concerning is the kick under bumper rear hatch close and open feature. It only opens when the sending unit is in your pocket, so it's important to remember to take it out, otherwise it will activate. If you reach in too far, the hatch comes down on your head, which has happened to me many times. I asked my dealer if they could disconnect it, but unfortunately, they were unable to. Additionally, there is no protection on the top of the rear bumper, so the paint gets chipped when taking things in and out.

Great car! It's so reassuringly tight and safe to drive.

I found the 'Edge' to be quite comfortable during my recent trip from NC to Tennessee. However, I did experience some issues with the rear of the car feeling unstable when navigating through the curves in the Tennessee mountains. Despite having correct air pressure and only 2000 miles on the car, the rear traction was not up to par. Additionally, I found the electronics interface (controlled via the left side lever) to be quite difficult to navigate. While I appreciate the ride comfort, the issues with traction and instability in curves make it unlikely that I would choose to purchase this model.

Upon searching for 'Ford Edge coolant leak into cylinder', it becomes apparent that this is a known issue with the ecoboost engine. Unfortunately, I experienced this problem with my own vehicle, which resulted in a ruined engine. Despite the regular warranty having expired, I was fortunate enough to have an extended warranty that covered the cost of the repair. However, less than two years later, the same issue occurred again, and this time the cost of repair was quoted at an exorbitant $12,000. As a result, I opted to have a used low-mileage engine installed by a BBB-accredited engine shop with a 5-star rating and happy customer testimonials. It is disappointing that the initial repair did not address the root cause of the issue, and that the Ford dealer was unsympathetic and unapologetic. Nevertheless, I am confident in my decision to seek a more reliable and cost-effective solution for my vehicle.I have decided to explore other options for my future vehicle purchases and maintenance needs. My recent experience with West Coast Auto Group has left me dissatisfied and I believe it is in my best interest to seek out alternative options. Thank you for your understanding.

My Ford Edge's transmission failed after only 17 months of use, at 60,979 miles. Despite being just outside of the 3 year/60,000 mile warranty, I took it to the Ford garage where it was rebuilt and I spent over $3,500, plus additional costs for a rental car and monthly payments. While I am disappointed with the situation, I am confident in my decision to purchase a new car to avoid such issues. I argued that the stock tires should not outlast the transmission, but the dealership suggested I should have purchased an extended warranty. Moving forward, I will consider this option. Despite this setback, I remain a knowledgeable and experienced car owner who makes informed decisions about my vehicles.

I've owned my 2015 Ford Edge Titanium Ecoboost for 15 months now. I purchased it used with only 36,000 miles and have put 27,310 miles on it since then. Although I love the car's interior and exterior, I recently encountered an issue with a broken flexplate and torque converter. Unfortunately, Ford has refused to offer any assistance with the repairs, citing the fact that I am 3100 miles over the warranty. While I wish I had done more research before purchasing the Ford Edge, I have since learned that many others have experienced the same issue. Even after being fixed, it may happen again later down the road. As a lifelong Ford fan, it is with a heavy heart that I say this will be my last Ford. My father and grandfather have collectively owned 25 Fords, but I plan to trade my Edge for a brand new Toyota Highlander. As a teacher, I do not have the funds to cover the $2600 repair cost. When I contacted Ford about the issue, they only advised me to keep my receipt for repairs in case of future recalls. I do not recommend the Ford Edge.

I loved this car until it broke down on my commute home. Fortunately, I was only on a 2 lane highway and not the major Atlanta highway I had just exited from. Despite having only 13,000 miles, it lost power and I thought it was due to bad gas, as we were in the middle of gas shortages in Georgia. I called roadside assistance and had it towed back to the dealership. The next morning, the service department called me first thing and the gentleman I spoke with seemed to know exactly what the problem was, despite not thinking it was bad gas. Although there was no recall on this car, my salesman informed me that there was a recall for this issue. I believe Ford should take responsibility for this issue. Apart from this major breakdown, I was very pleased with this car. It drives very nicely and Sync does pretty much what I tell it to do. I would like to give a shout-out to Akins Ford in Winder, Georgia because they went above and beyond to make things right. I hope Ford will do the same.
