mazda logo

The Mazdaspeed3 is a sport compact hatchback introduced for the 2007 model year by Mazdaspeed and produced until 2013. The Mazdaspeed3 is a performance-enhanced version of the 5-door Mazda3.

Mazda unveiled the Mazda3 MPS (Mazda Performance Series) at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show in February. The same model is sold in North America as the Mazdaspeed3 and as the Mazdaspeed Axela in Japan. The vehicle is front-wheel drive and powered by a 2.3 litres (2,261 cc) turbocharged inline-four gasoline engine. The Mazdaspeed3 was designed prior to the latest generation of hot hatches, including the Dodge Caliber SRT-4, Ford Focus ST, and the Volkswagen Golf/Rabbit GTI. The engine produces a power output of 263 hp (196 kW) and 280 lb⋅ft (380 N⋅m) of torque. The Mazdaspeed3 also features a limited slip differential.

The Mazdaspeed3 is the company's first hot hatchback since the BG Familia GT-X of the early 1990s.

Common 2010 Mazda Mazdaspeed3 problems

Based on complaints from owners of the Mazda Mazdaspeed3 2010, several common problems have been reported. Here is a detailed list of these issues:

  • Rotor Cracking and Breaking: Some owners experienced a noise at the front left wheel, which led to the discovery of a cracked and broken rotor. This problem manifested after hearing the noise for several days, eventually requiring a replacement at a repair shop.
  • Leaks: Leaks have been a recurring problem, with reports of leaks being detected during services and subsequent costly repairs needed to address the issue, sometimes amounting to $2000.
  • Power Steering Issues: Instances where hitting a bump caused the power steering to go out until another bump was hit or the wheel was turned have been reported. This intermittent loss of power steering can be a safety concern for drivers.
  • Front Strut Leaks: Owners have reported leaking front struts, indicating potential issues with the suspension system that may require attention to prevent further damage or safety risks.
  • Shock Mounts and Strut Breakage: Complaints include broken shock mounts on all four wheels and instances of struts breaking, highlighting potential weaknesses in the vehicle's suspension components that may lead to handling or safety issues.
  • Rack and Pinion Leaks: Some owners have experienced leaks from the rack and pinion, specifically leaking into the bellow boot for the inner tie rod end. This issue could affect steering performance and safety, especially at higher speeds.
  • Rear Stabilizer Links: Noise in the rear of the vehicle was diagnosed as rear stabilizer links, indicating potential issues with the vehicle's stability and handling. Delays in parts availability due to external factors like Covid-19 were also reported, affecting repair timelines.

These reported problems highlight various mechanical and structural issues that Mazda Mazdaspeed3 2010 owners have faced. Addressing these concerns promptly through proper maintenance and repairs is crucial to ensure the safety and longevity of the vehicle.

SEATS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2016-10-20
  • VIN: JM1BL1H36A1
  • Components: SEATS
  • Summary: I WAS DRIVING MY 2010 MAZDASPEED 3 ON 10/20/2016. DRIVING HOME FROM WORK I SUDDENLY REALIZED WHILE ACCELERATING IT WAS LIKE SITTING IN A ROCKING CHAIR. AFTER BEING ABLE TO CHECK IT LATER THAT NIGHT I LOOKED UP UNDER THE SEAT AND THE BRACE THAT HOLDS THE SEAT FRAME TO THE SEAT TRACK HAS COMPLETELY SHEERED OFF ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE. THE RIGHT SIDE IS STILL IN TACT... FOR NOW. READING ONLINE IT SEEMS THE DEALERSHIPS ARE WANTED AROUND $700 TO REPLACE THIS. I DON'T FEEL AS THOUGH I SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR SUCH A HIGH BILL ON A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN. IF I GET INTO AN ACCIDENT WHAT'S TO KEEP MY SEAT FROM COMPLETELY LAUNCHING AND IMPALING ME INTO THE STEERING WHEEL. MAZDA PLEASE STEP UP AND TAKE CARE OF THIS PROBLEM. TO MAKE AN ADDED NOTE, MY SEAT HAS HAD A SLIGHT ROCK IN IT FOR FROM WHAT I CAN REMEMBER BEING AT LEAST 2-3 YEARS NOW. TALK TO SOMEONE ABOUT IT WHEN I FIRST NOTICED IT AND THEY SAY THAT'S NORMAL AND DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. SO, CLEARLY IF THIS IS NORMAL FOR MAZDA, THEN THERE IS GOING TO BE A LOT MORE PROBLEMS COMING OUT OF THE WOODWORK. *TR

  • Summary: MY DASHBOARD HAS BEEN MELTING NOW FOR THE PAST 2 YEARS. IT IS GETTING WORSE. I LIVE IN FLORIDA. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS DEFECT FROM MAZDA AND THEY REFUSE TO REPLACE. THE MELTING DASHBOARD CAUSES EXTREME GLARE ON SUNNY DAYS. ENOUGH TO AFFECT VISIBILITY OUT THE FRONT WINDSHIELD. SINCE IT IS LITERALLY COOKING I AM CONCERNED THAT THERE ARE HEALTH HAZARDS AND TOXINS ASSOCIATED WITH IT MELTING. THIS SITUATION IS HAZARDOUS AND A RECALL NEEDS TO BE ENFORCED ASAP.

SEATS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2015-07-05
  • VIN: JM1BL1H30A1
  • Components: SEATS
  • Summary: I WAS IN THE VEHICLE ABOUT TO BACK OUT OF A PARKING SPOT WHEN I HEARD A POP AND THE SEAT SUDDENLY FELT LOOSE. THE SEAT ITSELF WILL ROCK BACK AND FORTH A FEW INCHES AND GENERALLY FEELS UNSTABLE. I LOOKED UNDER THE SEAT AND FOUND THAT ONE OF THE 4 SEAT MOUNTING BRACKETS (CONNECTS THE SEAT PORTION TO THE SEAT RAILS) HAD BROKEN IN HALF. THIS BRACKET HAS BEEN DISCOLORED BY HEAT FROM THE WELDING PROCESS (BLACK AT THE WELD FADING TO BLUE/GRAY AND THEN BACK TO THE BRONZE-TYPE COLOR OF THE PART). THE PART BROKE RIGHT WHERE THE COLOR FADES FROM BLUE/GRAY TO THE ORGINAL BRONZE COLOR. A QUICK GOOGLE SEARCH REVEALS THAT THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM. I HAVE INCLUDED SEVERAL LINKS WITH OWNERS COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS EXACT SAME ISSUE. ONE DRIVER MENTIONS ALMOST COLLIDING WITH A WALL WHEN IT BROKE. I HAVE SPOKEN TO BOTH MAZDA AND MY LOCAL DEALER. BOTH REFUSE TO COVER THE REPAIR COSTS. MAZDA DOES NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THE ISSUE AS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. THE DEALER REPAIR WOULD BE AN OUT OF POCKET COST OF ~$1000. I WAS QUOTED 2.5 HOURS LABOR AND A PARTS COST OF $700 FOR THE SEAT AND FRAME. THE RESPONSES I RECEIVED FROM MAZDA AND THE DEALER WERE DISHEARTENING. OBVIOUSLY I'M NOT HAPPY ABOUT A POTENTIAL $1000 REPAIR BILL TO FIX THE SEAT, AND THE BROKEN BRACKET AND WOBBLY SEAT REPRESENT A SERIOUS SAFETY RISK. I'M HOPING THE FOLKS AT THE NHTSA CAN HELP ADVOCATE FOR THE CONSUMER AND CONVINCE MAZDA THAT THEY MUST ACKNOWLEDGE THIS RATHER SERIOUS MANUFACTURING DEFECT. AIR BAGS,SEATS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2015-06-22
  • VIN: JM1BL1H41A1
  • Components: AIR BAGS,SEATS
  • Summary: THE SEAT HEIGHT ADJUSTER IS OPERATED BY A LEVER ON THE SIDE OF THE SEAT. THE LEVER ROTATES A ROD WITH TWO BRACKETS (ONE ON EACH SIDE OF THE SEAT) WHICH ARE WELDED TO THE BAR ON ONE END AND PINNED TO THE SEAT ADJUSTER BASE. THE BRACKET CRACKED AT THE BASE OF THE WELD ON THE OUTBOARD SIDE OF THE SEAT. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP; HOWEVER, I HAD NOTICED SOME A RATTLE OR CREAKING SOUND FROM THE SEAT FOR A FEW DAYS BEFORE THE FINAL FAILURE OCCURRED. THE SEAT IS NOT COMPLETELY LOOSE AT THE FRONT LEFT CORNER. THE SEAT HAS SIDE AIRBAGS. I AM CONCERNED THAT THEY WILL ACCIDENTALLY DEPLOY DUE TO THE EXCESSIVE SEAT MOVEMENT IN A PANIC BREAKING EVENT. MAZDA HAS CHANGED THE PART DESIGN, BUT THE REPAIR IS NOT COVERED UNDER A RECALL OR EXTENDED WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH A DEFECTIVE SEAT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. THE ONLY REPAIR IS TO REPLACE THE SEAT ADJUSTER ASSEMBLY OR ENTIRE SEAT.

  • VIN: JM1BL1H43A1
  • Components: SEATS
  • Summary: WHILE DRIVING, I HEARD A SLIGHT POP FROM UNDER THE SEAT. UPON ROUNDING A CURVE, THE ENTIRE DRIVER SEAT ROCKED LOOSE 7 TO 8 INCHES SIDEWAYS. I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND CAREFULLY DRIVE BACK TO MY HOME. I DISCOVERED THAT INSTEAD OF BOLTS & LOCKNUTS, THE SEAT IS SECURED TO THE SEATFRAME RAILS WITH 4 PINS (APPROXIMATELY 12MM). THE PARTS ARE ONLY HELD TOGETHER WITH PRESS-ON THRUST WASHERS. THESE WASHERS HAD POPPED OFF. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. IF I HAD BEEN DRIVING SLIGHTLY FASTER I COULD HAVE TOTALLY LOST CONTROL & CRASHED.UPDATED 07-16-15 *BF UPDATED 9/21/2015 *JS

SEATS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2014-12-01
  • VIN: JM1BL1H37A1
  • Components: SEATS
  • Summary: I WAS TAKING A CLOVER-LEAF OFF-RAMP WHEN I HEARD A SNAP (OR POP) AND FELT MY SEAT ROCK BACK ABOUT 3 INCHES WITH MORE INCHES TO GO BACK. I TOOK MY 2010 MAZDASPEED 3 INTO MORRIE'S MINNETONKA MAZDA IN ORDER FOR THEM TO INSPECT THE PART THAT HAD BROKEN. THE WASHER CAME LOOSE FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT RAIL ON THE LEFT SIDE. THE MECHANICS HAD REATTACHED THE WASHER, WHICH APPEARED TO BE A PRESSED-ON WASHER, AND WHEN TESTING THE SEAT BY ROCKING IN IT, THE WASHER FELL OFF AGAIN. THE RECOMMENDATION THAT THE DEALERSHIP HAD GIVEN ME WAS TO PURCHASE A NEW DRIVER SEAT RAIL ASSEMBLY, WHICH COSTS $1080.00 + TAX/SS. I HAD DECLINED TO PURCHASE THIS PART, AS I DON'T BELIEVE THE SEAT RAIL ASSEMBLY IS WORTH THAT AMOUNT, PLUS I COULD HAVE PURCHASED A NICE SET OF AFTERMARKET SEATS LIKE BRANDS BRIDE OR SPARCO. AFTER POSTING TO A FACEBOOK GROUP PAGE CALLED "MAZDA COMMUNITY BLOG", MANY OTHER MEMBERS HAVE POSTED SIMILAR EXPERIENCES, AND HAVE PROVIDED MANY REFERENCES TO OTHER WEBSITES THAT HAVE CLOSE TO THE SAME ISSUE THAT I HAVE EXPERIENCED. IT APPEARS TO BE MOSTLY RELATED TO THE 2010 MAZDASPEED 3 / 2010 MAZDA 3 YEARS OF WHEN THIS ISSUE HAS HAD OCCURRENCES. SOME OTHER SIMILAR ISSUES THAT OTHERS HAVE ALSO HAD ARE THE WELDS BREAKING ON THE SEATS, WHICH HAVE A SIMILAR EFFECT TO WHAT MY SEAT FELT LIKE. *JS

  • Summary: WHILE I WAS ENTERING THE FREEWAY I FELT THE SEAT MOVED BACK I ALMOST GOT INTO ACCIDENT WHEN IT HAPPEN LUCKILY IT DIDN'T HAPPEN. I WENT TO A MAZDA DEALERSHIP AND ASKED THEM ABOUT THE SEAT THEY SAID ITS NOT COVERED BY THE WARRANTY I HAVE TO PAY 800 PLUS LABOR TO FIX THE SEAT. THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPEN I WAS AT THE STOP LIGHT AND WHEN THE LIGHT TURN GREEN THE SEAT MOVED WAY BACK AND I COULDN'T REACH THE GAS AND THE CLUTCH PEDAL SO I STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET AND THERE WAS TRAFFIC COMING, ALMOST GOT INTO ACCIDENT AGAIN. SO NOW I HAVE TO HOLD THE STEERING WHEEL AND MOVE CLOSER TO THE STEERING WHEEL JUST TO REACH THE GAS ,BRAKE, AND CLUTCH PEDAL AND THAT'S NOT THE PROPER WAY TO SEAT FOR THE DRIVERS IF ANYONE GOT INTO ACCIDENT THAT CLOSE TO THE AIR THEY MIGHT SUFFOCATE IF THE AIR DEPLOY DURING AN ACCIDENT. Positive 2010 Mazda Mazdaspeed3 car reviews

  1. Wayne Mueller 2025-01-03

I was in search of a car that was both practical and fun, so I checked out the entire class. Eventually, I chose the Speed for its functionality, 5 doors, hatchback, and nice upscale interior. I didn't want to walk away with a 2 seat sports car, as my wife wouldn't have been too happy. There are a few things I don't like about this car, such as the lack of a temp gauge and low shift points (power peters out past 5500 RPM or so, and I came from a Vtec). However, the interior looks great and is roomy enough for me (I'm 6'2

  2. Jovan Botsford 2025-01-01

I've always valued a car that's both fun to drive and visually appealing. However, I've often had to accept certain limitations, such as costly maintenance (in the case of German cars), limited storage space (as with the Corvette, Miata, and 911), or outdated technology (like the GTO). But now, I'm happy to say that those days are behind me! This car is an absolute dream to drive, with only a minor issue of torque steer in first and second gear. But that's a small price to pay for the incredible Zoom-Zoom experience. Plus, it easily accommodates my golf clubs without requiring me to lower the rear seats, and I was even able to fit a 47

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed reading your review of your car. It sounds like you've had a great experience with it so far! It's always exciting to find a car that meets all of your requirements, and it sounds like this one definitely does. I especially loved hearing about how much fun it is to drive - that's always a plus! Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us.

I've had the car for about a month and I've already put about 2k fun miles on it. The car looks great and is an absolute blast to drive, with excellent handling that really hooks up well on curvy roads. I use this car as my daily commuter, putting about 140 miles a day round trip, and I couldn't be happier with it. I highly recommend getting the tech package. While there is some carbon build up on the tail pipe that ends up in the back hatch, it's not a major issue and can be easily cleaned off with a good coat of wax to protect your paint. Overall, this car is definitely the best bang for your buck!

I really enjoy the power, handling, and overall package of this car. It drives extremely well. Although, after 1500 miles, I have noticed some issues with carbon build-up on the tailpipes which ends up all over the rear of the car. While I have owned several turbo cars and carbon build-up is common, this seems excessive. Additionally, the car emits a lot of smoke on hard acceleration in 2nd and 3rd gear. However, overall, I believe this car is the best value for the money in terms of horsepower and quality.
