The Ford C-Max (stylized as Ford C-MAX and previously called the Ford Focus C-Max) is a car produced by the Ford Motor Company from 2003 to 2019. It has a five-door compact multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) design. The Ford Grand C-Max has a longer wheelbase.
Ford introduced the C-Max in the United States as its first hybrid-only line of vehicles, which includes the C-Max Hybrid, released in September 2012, and the C-Max Energi plug-in hybrid, launched in October 2012. Although the C-Max was initially available only in Europe, the first generation was partially available in New Zealand.

The Ford Focus C-Max is preceded by the eponymous show car, which was designed by Daniel Paulin and unveiled at the 2002 Paris Motor Show.
C-Max Mk I was the first product to use the Ford C1 platform, also used by the Ford Focus Mk II and the compact MPV Premacy/Mazda5. Its internal code name is C214.
It seats five passengers and has a large amount of cargo space, which can be increased by folding the rear seats flat. Some models feature diagonally sliding outer rear seats. It also shares the control blade independent rear suspension from the Focus.

This car was a blast to drive and own! I loved passing by gas stations and feeling stylish and modern in my SUV. However, after 11 months of ownership, I ran into some issues. It took 6 weeks to find parts to repair damage to the charge port and 4 weeks to find parts to repair passenger doors that were damaged while parked at the mall. The transmission also began slipping and things went downhill from there. Despite three trips to the dealer, there was still no resolution. However, the dealer has been incredibly nice throughout the process. Although the transmission module does not exist anywhere in the world, Ford is currently working with me to resolve my situation and get me into another vehicle. Despite the issues, I still loved the car and felt great driving something green that I actually liked. I especially loved the 'Go Times' feature, which allowed me to program the car to have the interior at a certain temperature by a certain time of the day. It was perfect for icy cold mornings, while my husband had to defrost his Prius, my C-Max purred silently melting the mess from mine. Although this feature hits your MPG rate pretty hard, I routinely saw 58-60 MPG electric/gas combined for my commute, with the first 21-26 miles being electric. My weekend errands were 100% electric. :) However, in the winter, between driving conditions and the Go times, I saw it drop to 38-40 MPG. The car did lack some space due to the batteries, and not having a spare felt almost 'naked'. Perhaps a redesign of the hatch to be a door and mount the spare there would be a good idea. The electronics were a bit annoying, even for a technology professional like myself, and almost pointless. MyFord could do more to inform you, but overall, I had a great experience with this car.I ran the Vehicle Health Report because the engine light came on. It informed me to check the dash for a check engine icon, which was really helpful. Although switching lanes on the highway was a bit rough, the ride was mostly comfortable and there was next to no interior noise. The car does ride low, which can be an issue during snow storms and mud season on my dirt road. It could use a little more height. However, getting into and out of the front and back seats was easy, and I appreciated the lumbar support. The ambient lighting was a nice touch that allowed me to customize the lighting to my mood. I also love not having a gas cap. It would be great if all vehicles had a charging outlet that is always on, like this one. I hope Ford works out the kinks in this car and adds a 4-wheel drive option. There is definitely a market for fuel-efficient SUVs, despite what some automakers believe. Making it 4-wheel drive instead of all-wheel drive would give the driver the option of when they want to prioritize fuel efficiency or driving performance. Unfortunately, I was forced to shovel the ground after every storm as snow tires and low gear did not improve grip at all. I even got stuck in my own driveway a couple of times, which was embarrassing and required me to call for a tow truck to help get me out.

Hi there! We actually went for the energy version of the car, which was a bit pricier, but we got a government tax rebate that made the upgrade free! We mainly use this car for running errands around town, so the limited trunk space hasn't been an issue for us. However, if you need more space, I'd recommend sticking with the hybrid version. Depending on the time of year, our car can go about 16-20 miles on the battery alone (although it's less in colder weather).

Sept. 2019: Hi there! Just wanted to give you an update on my earlier reviews. I purchased the car brand new in Aug 2015 and have only put 55,000 miles on it. I'm happy to report that the car continues to perform well and has been very reliable. I haven't had any mechanical issues at all and the maintenance cost has been very low. I'm a bit puzzled as to why Ford decided to discontinue this model, as I've found the hybrid electric plug-in to be especially great for saving on gas. Thanks for reading!

You've owned over 35 vehicles in your life, including cars, trucks, and even a Nissan Leaf. According to you, this is the best vehicle you've had so far. It has a great interior and is very comfortable, with a fantastic stereo system. It can easily accommodate 4 tall adults and has fantastic visibility. The power and handling are also great, and it gets fantastic gas mileage, averaging between 58mpg and 65mpg on your daily drive to work and back. The only downside is that the huge battery takes up most of the cargo area, and for the price of this vehicle, it should have a backup camera included (although it does have backup sensors). You think it's a fantastic vehicle and you're surprised that Ford doesn't advertise it more. You hope they're not going to phase it out because that would be a huge mistake.

I had this car for a short time and unfortunately had a horrific crash, which resulted in my little C-Max being totaled. However, I was able to walk away from the accident thanks to the car's impressive safety features. Even the folks at the body shop were surprised when I showed up the next day, assuming I would be in the hospital for a while. Despite the accident, I must say that the car was a lot of fun to drive. When I bought it, I traded in a Focus and found that the C-Max, built on a Focus chassis, handled very similarly. The acceleration takes a little getting used to, as it is very fast and quiet. If you're switching from gas to electric, be aware of this, as you can easily find yourself speeding without realizing it. My only complaint about the car is that the MyFord Touch system is rather crummy, but this was changed in 2016. Additionally, if you can find one with a backup camera, that is a nice feature. Unfortunately, Ford decided to make the backup camera an expensive option, so most C-Max models don't have it. However, since this car is three years old, many are now available on the market as people turn in their leases. If you're looking for a good used car that gets great mileage and is fun to drive, you'll love the C-Max.

I experienced problems with the electrical system early on. However, I am confident that the issue was primarily caused by the dealership. Despite the sales people and management appearing to care, the car had to be towed twice due to the technicians failing to make proper electrical connections. Shockingly, the second time they delivered the car to me without reassembling the hybrid battery compartment! Fortunately, FMC came to the rescue and made some commercial accommodation that has worked for me.

If you're looking for a car that will last, I would recommend considering other options. While I have had some issues with this car, such as having to replace a headlight assembly and battery, I understand that these things can happen with any vehicle. Unfortunately, my extended warranty did not cover these repairs. Additionally, the car's value has not held up well over time, especially if you drive more than 15,000 miles per year. If you're looking for a reliable and valuable car, I would suggest considering a Toyota Prius. I also own one of these and have had a great experience with it. It's important to note that while I have had some issues with my Ford, I still appreciate its features and use it for my daily commute. Thank you for considering my experience with this car.

charge port cover is held in place with a spring and if it disconnect it affects the entire housing which can cost up to $500. What a surprise... it happens after the warranty! The charge error message "fault in charging!" I cannot believe the poor design that cost the owner hundreds! I have own cars since the 70s and this is the 1st time a signal light bulb fails within 2-years! I have a truck/2004 and I never had to replace any lights to this day. Cheap!!!
