Ford Bronco problems

The Ford Bronco is a model line of SUVs manufactured and marketed by Ford. The first SUV model developed by the company, five generations of the Bronco were sold from the 1966 to 1996 model years. A sixth generation of the model line was introduced for the 2021 model year. The nameplate has been used on other Ford SUVs, namely the 1984–1990 Bronco II compact SUV and the 2021 Bronco Sport compact crossover.
Originally developed as a compact off-road vehicle using its own chassis, the Bronco initially competed against the Jeep CJ-5 and International Harvester Scout. For 1978, Ford enlarged the Bronco, making it a short-wheelbase version of the F-Series pickup truck; the full-size Bronco competed against the Chevrolet K5 Blazer and Dodge Ramcharger.
Following a decline in demand for large two-door SUVs, Ford discontinued the Bronco after the 1996 model year, replacing it with the four-door Ford Expedition; followed by the larger Ford Excursion. After a 25-year hiatus, the sixth-generation Bronco is now offered as a mid-size two-door SUV for the first time. It is also offered as a full-size four-door SUV with a 16 in (41 cm) longer wheelbase. It competes directly with the Jeep Wrangler as both a two-door and a four-door (hardtop) convertible.
From 1965 to 1996, the Ford Bronco was manufactured by Ford at its Michigan Truck Plant in Wayne, Michigan, where it also manufactures the sixth-generation version.

Common Ford Bronco problems
Based on complaints from Ford Bronco owners, several common problems have been reported:
- Electrical Malfunctions: Some Bronco owners have experienced electrical problems ranging from faulty wiring to issues with dashboard displays. Symptoms include flickering lights or erratic behavior from the electrical system. If these issues arise, it is essential to have the vehicle inspected by a qualified mechanic to diagnose and repair the problem.
- Transmission Issues: Problems with shifting gears, slipping transmissions, or complete failures have been reported by some Bronco owners. Regular maintenance like fluid changes can help prevent transmission issues. Unusual noises or difficulty shifting gears should prompt an immediate inspection by a professional mechanic.
- Stalling: Bronco owners have encountered stalling issues, which can be attributed to various factors such as a malfunctioning fuel pump, clogged fuel filter, or faulty ignition system. Frequent stalling or difficulty starting the vehicle should be addressed by a qualified mechanic to diagnose and resolve the issue promptly.
- Suspension Wear: Regularly inspecting the suspension for signs of wear, such as sagging or leaking shocks, is crucial to prevent more significant issues. Any abnormalities noticed in the suspension should be evaluated by a qualified mechanic to ensure the vehicle's safety and performance.
- Valve Train Issues: Some Ford Bronco models have experienced problems with the valve train, specifically in the EcoBoost 2.7-liter V6 engine. Premature camshaft lobe wear, faulty lifters, and rough engine idling leading to stalling or power reduction have been reported. Owners should be attentive to auditory clues like ticking, knocking, or clattering sounds, especially during cold starts, and promptly contact an authorized dealer if they suspect valve train issues.
These common problems highlight the importance of regular maintenance, prompt inspections, and finding a reliable mechanic specializing in Ford vehicles to address any issues promptly and ensure the longevity and reliability of Ford Bronco cars.

Ford Bronco 2023
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-03
- Date Complaint: 2024-10-09
- VIN: 1FMDE5BH0PL
- Components: WHEELS,ENGINE
- Summary: We installed new tires and wheels on our vehicle and it immediately started having engine problems and the check engine light comes on. We took it to the dealer and after several days back and forth Ford told the deal that it's a known problem with the 2.3L version of the Ford Bronco however they had no fix and no timeline to fix the problem. This creates a safety hazard as the engine program can't be updated and could cause damage to the engine and cause it to fail. The dealer then stated that they could not return the vehicle to us with the new tires and wheels we purchased and we had to put our old tires and wheels on. We counted on the old tires for a spare since we already blew one tire out. So in addition to a safety hazard we are currently out $2,500 we spent on new tires and wheels, and now have to purchase another tire of the exact same original size to have a spare, costing us another $300.

These are solid cylinders that could cause damage to other vehicles. Now, my vehicle has an unsafe suspension ride, bouncy and kicks, and I’m scheduled for out of pocket repair.

Ford Bronco 2023
- Date Of Incident: 2024-03-29
- Date Complaint: 2024-09-17
- VIN: 1FMDE5DH4PL
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: Front pinion seal leak is detected at where the front drive shaft meets the front differential. Ford attempted to fix it with a pinion seal replacement and the leak is still unresolved, second attempt was done by changing the front differential fluid which also did not resolve the issue. This issue is fairly common amongst bronco owners on forums and will be hard to come to the users’ attention unless the user checks under the vehicle so the problem may be more widespread than reported. The undetected loss of front differential fluid may cause overheating of the front differential over time as the fluid levels become low and potentially cause a lockup at high speed when the vehicle is used in 4A AWD mode. The leak can also be a fire hazard.

The vehicle was brought back to the dealership 3x for this same issue. This had been going on until this past week when while driving on the highway the window just shattered into pieces. Thankfully no one was in that seat at the time.

Ford Bronco 2022
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-17
- Date Complaint: 2024-08-21
- VIN: 1FMEE5DP6NL
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: Steering stopped working. Took it to a Ford dealership and they have identified the problem as a broken steering gear. Other 2022 Ford Broncos were recalled for a faulty steering gear, but my VIN was not included. Seems suspicious that the same part breaks for the same year and model. Additionally, the part is on back order at Ford, so there may be a high demand for these parts because other steering gears are failing.

I've owned several Wranglers in the past, including a 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon Hard Rock which I absolutely loved. I took it on multiple jamborees and had a great time. However, as I approached 100K miles, I ran into multiple engine issues. That's when I decided to test drive the 2023 Wildtrak Sasquatch and ended up buying it. I must say, it has significantly better road manners than the Rubicon. The V-6 ecoboost has plenty of giddy up. I installed rock rails, winch and tubular steel bumper to make it even better. The only issue I have is the wind/road noise despite having the hard top. I think the frameless doors are the problem. The MPG is equally poor for both Bronco and Rubicon with larger tires. Overall, I really enjoy the Bronco and I'm looking forward to hitting the trails with it.

You've made a great choice! Your 93 Bronco is in excellent condition, having been garage kept and well-maintained. The exterior was repainted in 2008, giving it a sharp look. The interior is flawless and the 5.0 engine has only 106,000 original miles on it. The truck rides smoothly on its 31

We have owned two Jeep Wranglers and both were great vehicles. We explored places from the desert to the mountains, took family trips, etc. Anyone who has owned a Jeep knows the pros and cons, and the list on both sides is long. When Ford announced the Bronco, we reserved right away. We just took possession of the Ford Bronco Badlands, and after a few days of ownership, we are very impressed. We are pleasantly surprised that the Bronco wins in every way over the Jeep. Here are some highlights: 1. It's incredibly comfortable in both the front and back seats. It's hands down more comfortable than the Jeep. You can actually ride in this vehicle for hours without being miserably uncomfortable. 2. The space is perfect in the front and back. It's slightly more spacious than the Jeep Wrangler, and instead of feeling crammed in, there is proper spacing that makes it very comfortable. 3. The suspension and ride are great. Compared to the Jeep, it blows the Jeep out of the water. Driving on various road conditions is superior and comfortable. 4. The drive is fantastic. If you have driven a Jeep, say goodbye to death wobble or a vehicle that sounds like it's dying past 72mph. In the new Bronco, you can comfortably drive 80 mph or more if wanted, and the vehicle doesn't have hood wobbles or sound like the engine is maxed or struggling on the highway. You might actually enjoy road-trips versus feeding the drive to the off-road destination. The storage is about the same as the Wrangler, and it is more than adequate for the vehicle type. The interior style is modern and simple. We think they nailed it. It's not overly futuristic and not some cheesy retro play. It fits the times and looks timeless. The tech is awesome. The base model stereos and tech are better than what comes on the Jeep Wrangler in so many ways. But the upgraded tech available is far better. Ford did a great job of providing good technology options and audio. Thank you! Everyone will have a preference when it comes to the engine. We chose the 4-cylinder engine and let me just say, if we line up at a red light with a Jeep Wrangler, we'll leave it far behind all the way up to 80mph! With 300 horsepower and a turbo, the 4-cylinder is responsive, quick, and has no real lag. It hands down beats the Wrangler. As for the roof options, we ordered the hard top and were aware of the delay, so we ended up with the soft top. It's growing on us and with the windows popped out, it's actually very cool. When it's open, it's amazing to have the full roof open. We're still deciding if we'll end up loving the soft top. Our recommendation is to invest in the upgraded stereo or plan to do so aftermarket. The base stereo tech is good, but the speakers and amplifier will leave you wanting more. Ford offers a great upgrade to make it easy and it's worth it. This is my first vehicle review, and I felt compelled to share our first take. While we've owned multiple Jeeps, at this moment, I don't believe we'll ever go back. The Ford Bronco Badlands is a superior vehicle in all the ways that matter for us as a family.

This Bronco outperforms the Jimmy I had by a long shot. I live in the woods in MS 4.75 miles from black top. A lot of mud, creeks and hills. Haven't had to do much of anything to it. I love the ride, clearance, and power. This 5.8 is much better than the GM 5.7. My daughter's Jeep can't keep up on the road or in the mud, and a Dodge can't make it out here.

Like most Fords, my Bronco has had its fair share of mechanical problems, but I wouldn't trade it for any other vehicle. I plan on building it up and keeping it for as long as possible.

During the 5 months that I owned the car, I experienced several electrical issues that were unfortunately not resolved despite 3 visits to the shop. In addition, I had to charge the battery twice and the windows on the driver's side were malfunctioning. Despite these challenges, I remained confident in my ability to handle the situation. I was able to address the battery and alarm issues, which were the main sources of frustration. Although there were some difficulties, I remained in control and was able to manage the situation effectively.

This is a great vehicle with some minor details that could be improved. The styling is the best of any modern truck, and the well-designed interior is very attractive. However, the cheap plastic materials put a damper on things and there are some rattles. On the bright side, the seats are VERY comfortable and the removable roof is cool, albeit a bit awkward. The 302 V8 (185hp@3800, 270 lb-ft@2400) is refined and torquey, pulling like a freight train and living under 2000 rpm; it's the best feature of the truck. The auto transmission is also good. The handling and ride are pretty good for a 4x4, and the gas mileage in town is 14mpg, 19mpg highway, both with a light foot. With strong underpinnings and good engineering, this 4x4 can tackle most off-roading stock. The only downside is that the gas fill is on the driver's side.

Hi there! I noticed that you're considering the 2022 Black Diamond Sasquatch 2.7 v6 10A, which wasn't in the drop-down menu. As someone who has owned Toyotas and VWs, I can understand your hesitation about trying a Ford. However, I wanted to share that this vehicle has some great features - it's definitely a head-turner, handles well on the road for its size, and is incredibly capable off-road. That being said, I do want to acknowledge some issues that you've experienced, such as gearing problems and road noise. It sounds like there are some improvements that could be made in terms of build quality. Ultimately, it depends on what you're looking for in a vehicle - if you're seeking a high-speed off-road adventure, this could be a great fit. However, if you're looking for a daily family car, it may not be the best choice. I hope this helps!

I purchased a 2022 Black Diamond Bronco with only 23 miles on it, but unfortunately, I experienced some issues with the vehicle after only 72 hours. Despite the inconvenience, I returned to the dealership and they were able to diagnose the problem as a faulty front axle and transfer case. The dealership has been very helpful in resolving the issue and provided me with a loaner vehicle while my Bronco is being repaired. I appreciate their prompt attention to the matter and look forward to getting back on the road in my Bronco soon.

I've had a Ford Bronco Big Bend for almost a month, but unfortunately, it hasn't been the right fit for me. While the color is nice and it handles parking spots well, there have been some issues with the electrical system, the hard top isn't sealed correctly, and the engine sounds like it's grinding. Additionally, there isn't much room for running errands without lowering the rear seats, which limits the number of family members who can travel with me. Overall, it's been an uncomfortable experience and I've decided to return the vehicle to the dealership. Thank you for your understanding.
