1994 Ford Bronco problems
The Ford Bronco is a model line of SUVs manufactured and marketed by Ford. The first SUV model developed by the company, five generations of the Bronco were sold from the 1966 to 1996 model years. A sixth generation of the model line was introduced for the 2021 model year. The nameplate has been used on other Ford SUVs, namely the 1984–1990 Bronco II compact SUV and the 2021 Bronco Sport compact crossover.
Originally developed as a compact off-road vehicle using its own chassis, the Bronco initially competed against the Jeep CJ-5 and International Harvester Scout. For 1978, Ford enlarged the Bronco, making it a short-wheelbase version of the F-Series pickup truck; the full-size Bronco competed against the Chevrolet K5 Blazer and Dodge Ramcharger.
Following a decline in demand for large two-door SUVs, Ford discontinued the Bronco after the 1996 model year, replacing it with the four-door Ford Expedition; followed by the larger Ford Excursion. After a 25-year hiatus, the sixth-generation Bronco is now offered as a mid-size two-door SUV for the first time. It is also offered as a full-size four-door SUV with a 16 in (41 cm) longer wheelbase. It competes directly with the Jeep Wrangler as both a two-door and a four-door (hardtop) convertible.
From 1965 to 1996, the Ford Bronco was manufactured by Ford at its Michigan Truck Plant in Wayne, Michigan, where it also manufactures the sixth-generation version.

Common 1994 Ford Bronco problems
The Ford Bronco, produced from 1966 to 1996, has been a popular choice among off-road enthusiasts due to its robust design and powerful engine. However, like any other vehicle, the 1994 Ford Bronco has its fair share of common problems that owners have reported.
One of the most common issues is the engine stalling at idle, which can be caused by a variety of factors, including faulty ignition modules, fuel pump problems, or issues with the throttle position sensor (TPS). This problem can be particularly frustrating for drivers, as it can lead to unexpected stalling, especially when driving at low speeds or when stopped at an intersection.
Another common issue is the engine dying unexpectedly, which can be caused by a drop in oil pressure when the engine is warm. This problem has been traced back to faulty oil pressure switches, which can be replaced with the guidance of a Haynes Bronco manual.
The 1994 Ford Bronco has also been known to have issues with its fuel system, particularly with the carburetor. Over time, the carburetor can rock, causing the gasket it sits on to fail, which can lead to poor fuelling. This issue can be resolved by replacing the gasket and tightening the nuts to the required torque, as detailed in the Haynes Bronco manual.
Broken universal joints (UJs) are also a common problem with the 1994 Ford Bronco, especially if the vehicle is used off-road. Replacements for broken UJs are readily available at most parts stores, and the Haynes Bronco manual provides a good guide on how to change them.
The 1994 Ford Bronco has also been known to have issues with its ignition system, particularly with the TFI module. This issue can cause the engine to die when driving along or when reaching an intersection, and the average repair cost is around $5000. However, investing in a Haynes manual and undertaking the task yourself can save a significant amount of money.
In addition to these common problems, the 1994 Ford Bronco has also been subject to a few recalls. One recall was issued to replace certain aftermarket fuel pumps that could leak and cause a fire. Another recall concerned the secondary throttle shaft, which could become contaminated with dirt and become stuck in a partially open position, causing the vehicle to travel faster than intended. A creaking frame and front seat tracks that weren't fastened down correctly also prompted recalls.
Despite these common problems, many owners of the 1994 Ford Bronco have reported that the vehicle is still going strong, even with high mileage. With proper maintenance and care, the 1994 Ford Bronco can be a reliable and capable off-road vehicle.
Which Bronco has engine problems?
These cases spanned 2021-22 Ford Bronco, Edge, Explorer, and F-150 vehicles, along with 2021-22 Lincoln Aviator and Nautilus models, all equipped with either 2.7-liter or 3.0-liter EcoBoost engines.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2006-06-30
- VIN: 1FMEU15H0RL
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING
- Summary: I OWN A FULL SIZE 1994 FORD BRONCO 351 5.8L EDDIE BAUER. AFTER DRIVING AT NIGHT FOR 5-10 MINUTES THE LIGHTS FLASH OFF AND ON INTERMITTENTLY. I NOTICED A VERY STRONG BURNING ELECTRICAL SMELL EMITTING FROM THE DASHBOARD AROUND THE HEADLIGHT/DIMMER SWITCH. I REMOVED THE DASH TO EXAMINE THE SWITCH, CONTACT BLADES, AND WIRING HARNESS PLUG. THE PLASTIC CONNECTOR AT THE END OF WIRING HARNESS THAT PLUGS INTO THE HEADLIGHT/DIMMER SWITCH WAS BURNED, MELTED AND EXTREMELY HOT TO TOUCH. AFTER RESEARCH ON INTERNET I FEEL VERY STRONGLY THAT THIS PROBLEM WILL OCCUR MORE FREQUENTLY AS VEHICLES GET OLDER AND THE SWITCH FAILS DUE TO DEFECT. I'M NO AUTOMOTIVE GENIUS, BUT CONCERNED THAT OTHERS MAY CONTINUE TO DRIVE VEHICLE AND FAULTY SWITCHES WILL START FIRES. I SAW INFORMATION FROM WALTERS FORENSIC ENGINEERING - TORONTO ONTARIO THAT LAB SITUATIONS SHOWED THESE SAME SWITCHES CAUSE FIRES FROM ELECTRICAL RESISTANCE PROBLEMS. I HAVE THE MELTED PARTS FOR EXAMINATION. CONSEQUENCES CAN BE SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. FORD MOTOR CORPORATION SHOULD REPLACE/RECALL THESE FAULTY ITEMS. RECENT FORD FIRES MAY ALSO BE RELATED TO THIS SWITCH DUE TO CLOSE PROXIMITY OF CRUISE CONTROL FIRES SOURCE. THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH MAY MELT AND BURN BEHIND THE DASH AREA FROM HIGH HEAT. PART# STAMPED ON THE DIMMER SWITCH IS MOTORCRAFT E77B-11654-AA. THERE IS A SECONDARY NUMBER IN NON-REMOVABLE INK OR PAINT THAT APPEARS ALSO. MAY BE A FORD PLANT OR PART IDENTIFICATION# USED DURING ASSEMBLY. IT IS 3L 0912. THERE ARE 9 BLADES ON THE SWITCH THAT CONNECT TO WIRING HARNESS. THESE PRONGS HAVE IDENTIFICATION LETTERS NEXT TO THEM DOWN INSIDE THE SWITCH. (FOR EXAMPLE: TO NAME A FEW THERE ARE D1, D2, AND IGN) THE AREA OF CONCERN HAS B2 NEXT TO IT. IT'S AT THE BOTTOM OF THE THIRD ROWS OF BLADES IN THE CENTER. MOTORCRAFT APPARENTLY HAS A DIFFERENT OR NEW IDENTIFICATION# FOR THIS SWITCH. I HAVE NOT PURCHASED A REPLACEMENT YET, BUT IT LOOKS LIKE THE NEW PART # FOR MY VEHICLE AS DESCRIBED MAY BE SW2103. PLEASE RESPOND! *JB

AT THE TIME THE TRUCK WAS UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY SO INSTED OF TRYING TO FIGHT WITH THEM ABOUT THIS BEING A SAFETY DEFECT THAT SHOULD BE FIXED FOR FREE BY FORD, I TOLD THEM THE WARRANTY COMPANY WOULD PAY FOR THE REPAIR AND THEY DID, BUT ONLY ON THE RIGHT SIDE. THE DEALERSHIP SERIVCE DEPT TOLD ME BOTH RAIDUS ARMS HAD TO BE REPLACED IN A PAIR AND THEY COULD NOT REPLACE ONE AT AT TIME, SO I HAD TO PAY FOR THE LEFT SIDE WHICH WAS NOT DAMAGED AT ALL. TODAY (8/30/02) WHILE I WAS CHECKING MY TRUCK OVER AGAIN WHILE CHANGING THE OIL AND ONCE AGAIN I FOUND THE RIGHT FRONT RADIUS ARM INSULATOR (BUSHING) HAS ALMOST DISINTEGRATED AGAIN AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. THIS TIME THE TRUCK IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. CAN YOU PLEASE ADVISE ME IF YOUR STAFF AGREES THAT THIS REPEATED INSULATOR FAILURE IS DEFINITELY A MANUFACTURERS DESIGN DEFECT AND SINCE IT INVOLVES A CRITICAL COMPONENT OF THE VEHICLES SUSPENSION (THE RADIUS ARM), THAT IT SHOULD BE REPLACED FOR FREE (INCLUDING THE LEFT SIDE AND A FRONT END ALIGNMENT WHICH THEY DID LAST TIME AROUND? What a great truck! It has served you well for many years and it just keeps going.
-
What a fantastic truck! I recently took a trip to the beautiful desert southwest and went on several desert trails over rocks and through the sand. The best place to test it was Grand Staircase where the big Bronco handled like a 2.5 ton solid axle go-kart. It was so much fun! The interior is very functional without all the unnecessary features that the Expedition has. It has great power, a great transfer case (BW 1356 Manual), and a great suspension. And did I mention that it handles great off-road too?

The 94 Bronco with the 351 engine and 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is experiencing a slipping issue when shifting from 4th to overdrive, and occasionally before that. During a recent acceleration, the vehicle revved up to 4,000 RPM and did not shift back into gear until coming to a complete stop. I added some fluid to the transmission, but have not had sufficient time to test it. Can you provide any insight into what might be causing this issue?
-
You've got yourself a great Bronco there! It's always fun to drive and the 4X4 capabilities make it a nice truck. I would definitely consider buying another Bronco!
-
I've owned the vehicle since '97. It currently has 148,000 miles on it and still runs and looks like new. It only requires minimal servicing, such as an annual tune-up and tire rotation and balancing. I've had no serious problems at all. People are constantly asking if I wish to sell it!

This is my 2nd Ford Bronco. Although it has cost me a lot of money to keep it up, I can't complain. The motor seems very strong, but I have had to replace the 4X4, brake lines, and oil pan seal. Unfortunately, I have had to repair the thermostat and the aluminum piece on top of my motor six times. Despite these issues, I still wish Ford would bring this rig back. I won't sell this big bad girl; I'll keep restoring her.

This was definitely the best truck I have ever owned! It had some typical repairs you would expect from a 12 year old truck, but it ran strong and reliably until it unfortunately caught fire. Despite this, it was a fantastic vehicle and will be sorely missed.
