1999 Ford Bronco problems
The Ford Bronco is a model line of SUVs manufactured and marketed by Ford. The first SUV model developed by the company, five generations of the Bronco were sold from the 1966 to 1996 model years. A sixth generation of the model line was introduced for the 2021 model year. The nameplate has been used on other Ford SUVs, namely the 1984–1990 Bronco II compact SUV and the 2021 Bronco Sport compact crossover.
Originally developed as a compact off-road vehicle using its own chassis, the Bronco initially competed against the Jeep CJ-5 and International Harvester Scout. For 1978, Ford enlarged the Bronco, making it a short-wheelbase version of the F-Series pickup truck; the full-size Bronco competed against the Chevrolet K5 Blazer and Dodge Ramcharger.
Following a decline in demand for large two-door SUVs, Ford discontinued the Bronco after the 1996 model year, replacing it with the four-door Ford Expedition; followed by the larger Ford Excursion. After a 25-year hiatus, the sixth-generation Bronco is now offered as a mid-size two-door SUV for the first time. It is also offered as a full-size four-door SUV with a 16 in (41 cm) longer wheelbase. It competes directly with the Jeep Wrangler as both a two-door and a four-door (hardtop) convertible.
From 1965 to 1996, the Ford Bronco was manufactured by Ford at its Michigan Truck Plant in Wayne, Michigan, where it also manufactures the sixth-generation version.

Common 1999 Ford Bronco problems
The 1999 Ford Bronco, like any other vehicle, is prone to certain issues that its owners have reported. This article will discuss the most common problems with the 1999 Ford Bronco, including the ignition module failure, engine stalling, broken universal joints, ignition problems, oil pressure problems, and fuelling problems.
- Ignition Module Failure
Ignition module malfunctions are a common problem in the 1999 Ford Bronco. The ignition module is responsible for controlling the ignition system's spark timing. When it fails, the engine may misfire, stall, or have trouble starting. This issue can be caused by various factors, including wear and tear, overheating, and voltage fluctuations. Replacing the ignition module is the most common solution to this problem. - Engine Stalling
Some 1999 Ford Bronco owners have reported that their engines stall at idle, especially when the vehicle is warm. This issue can be caused by a variety of factors, including faulty fuel injectors, a dirty throttle body, and vacuum leaks. In some cases, the problem can be resolved by cleaning the throttle body and fuel injectors or replacing the vacuum hoses. However, if the problem persists, it may be necessary to replace the engine control module (ECM) or the fuel pump. - Broken Universal Joints
Broken universal joints (U-joints) are a common problem in the 1999 Ford Bronco, especially if the vehicle is used off-road. The U-joints connect the driveshaft to the differential and the transmission. When they break, the driveshaft can become disconnected, causing the vehicle to lose power. Replacing the broken U-joints is the most common solution to this problem. - Ignition Problems
Some 1999 Ford Bronco owners have reported that their engines die when they are driving along or when they reach an intersection. The engine then won't restart. This issue has been traced to a faulty TFI module, which controls the ignition system's timing. Replacing the TFI module is the most common solution to this problem. - Oil Pressure Problems
On occasion, the 1999 Ford Bronco may suffer from oil pressure problems, making it seem like the engine has no oil pressure when warm. However, the problem has been traced to faulty oil pressure switches, and the replacement of the switch is covered in the Haynes Bronco manual. - Fuelling Problems
Ford used just two studs to attach the 300ci carburetor in the 1999 Ford Bronco. Over time, the carburetor rocks, which can cause the gasket it sits on to fail, leading to poor fuelling. The solution is to replace the gasket and tighten the nuts to the required torque, a procedure you'll find in your Haynes Bronco manual.
In conclusion, while the 1999 Ford Bronco is a reliable SUV, it is prone to certain issues that its owners have reported. These problems include ignition module failure, engine stalling, broken universal joints, ignition problems, oil pressure problems, and fuelling problems. Being aware of these issues can help potential buyers make informed decisions and avoid costly repairs.
