The Dodge Stratus is a mid-size car that was introduced by Dodge in December 1994 and was based on the 4-door sedan Chrysler JA platform. The Stratus, Plymouth Breeze, and Chrysler Cirrus were all on Car and Driver magazine's Ten Best list for 1996 and 1997. It received critical acclaim at launch, but ratings fell over time. An updated version of the Stratus was introduced for 2001, with the Cirrus being renamed as the Chrysler Sebring, and a coupé model was also added to the range. Production ended in early 2006 at the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant after building 1,308,123 Stratus and Sebrings since 2000.

The Dodge Avenger replaced the Stratus nameplate in early 2007 for the 2008 model year.

After the discontinuation of the Stratus sedan in 2006, the assembly line and tooling were sold to the Russian concern, GAZ, which manufactured 9,000 units of a very slightly modified Stratus from 2008 through 2010 called the Volga Siber.

WHEELS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-04-23
  • VIN: 1B3EL46X93N
  • Components: WHEELS
  • Summary: The problem is not with the tire itself, but with the lug nuts holding the tire on the car. In the past year I have had at least six lug nuts fail. I have had a rash of flat tires, mostly related to nails. In attempting to remove the tires to put on the spare, the chrome caps on the nuts have come off. In the first incident, I was able to strip the cover off the internal nut by hand. In attempting to remove the internal nut, the softer metal was stripped. I was forced to drive on a flat tire home to try and remove the rest of the nut. I had to call a tow truck to haul my car into the shop where they had to cut off the nut. I can document this and three other occasions of the lug nuts being stripped when trying to remove a bad tire. I can document an occasion when the shop replaced two faulty nuts when repairing one of my tires. In the most recent occasion, I was able to remove the tire. However, when handling the lug nuts the chrome cap came off in my hand. I am able to strip these caps and nuts by hand using an "X" lug wrench, which I had to buy because the wrench that came with the vehicle twisted out of shape while trying to remove the lug nuts. The shop is aware of this problem, and they keep putting these defective lug nuts back on. At my age, it is inconceivable that I would be able to strip these caps and lug nugs by hand. I have the documents, I can get you pictures, but I am not a computer whiz and am currently having problems getting my printer to link up with my PC to download files to send. I will have a family member copy this information and email it to me so I can attempt to send it to you with your reply.

FOR ABOUT A WEEK WHENEVER I HAD TO MAKE A TURN THERE WAS THIS NOISE LIST A SPRING WAS CAUGHT AND ALMOST WOULD GET CAUGHT AND I WOULD HAVE TO QUICKLY JERK THE STEERING WHEEL SO IT WOULDN'T GET STUCK AND KEEP ME FROM TURNING. MY AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYS ON, SO IT WON,T DEPLOY IN AN ACCIDENT, MY HORN DOESN'T WORK, AND I LOST FUNCTION OF MY SPEED CONTROL. I WAS TOLD THIS IS MY CLOCKSPRING. THIS FAULTY CLOCKSPRING WAS RECALLED IN MANY DODGE VEHICLES BUT HAS YET TO BE RECALLED IN MY VEHICLE. SEE SAFETY RECALL NO. AIR BAGS,STRUCTURE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2016-04-25
  • VIN: 4B3AG52HX3E
  • Components: AIR BAGS,STRUCTURE
  • Summary: THE ENTIRE DASHBOARD FROM DRIVER'S SIDE TO PASSENGER SIDE AS WELL AS FROM THE FRONT WHERE IT MEETS THE WINDSHIELD TO WHERE IT WRAPS OVER AND CONNECTS TO ENTIRE PANEL FACING THE FRONT SEATS IS WARPING AND PULLING AWAY FROM EVERYTHING IT IS SUPPOSE TO HELP HOLD INTO PLACE. IT IS NOW RISING ABOVE THE PASSENGER AIR BAG COMPARTMENT. IF THIS AIR BAG DEPLOYS IT WILL DEFINITELY EITHER THROW THE ENTIRE DASHBOARD OR MASSIVE PIECES OF IT DIRECTLY TOWARD THE PASSENGER AND DRIVER (SINCE THE WARPING HAS DISLODGED IT FROM EVERYTHING) OR IT WILL DEPLOY AND THE WARPED DASHBOARD COULD CAUSE THE AIR BAG TO BE THROWN UP TOWARD THE WINDSHIELD, SUN VISOR SUPPORT & NEW TETHER STRAP WHICH COULD CAUSE EVEN MORE ISSUES. THE WARPING HAS ALSO STARTED TO AFFECT EVERY COVER IT CONNECTS TO ON THE DASH, PULLING & PUSHING THEM LOOSE. THESE ITEMS CAN NOW ALSO BE THROWN THROUGHOUT THE VEHICLE IN A CRASH. I HAVE ONLY OWNED MY VEHICLE 6 MONTHS, THE SUMMER HEAT HAS NOT EVEN ARRIVED. AT THE RATE IT IS WARPING, I HAVE NO DOUBT IT WILL PROBABLY BE A MINIMUM OF 2 INCHES ABOVE AIR BAG COMPARTMENT WITHIN THE NEXT 3 MONTHS. PLEASE HELP US STAY SAFE AND RECALL THESE DASHBOARDS BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY INJURED. ACCIDENTS ARE BAD ENOUGH, WE NEED TO PREVENT ADDITIONAL INJURIES AND PROBLEMS THAT THESE DEFECTIVE DASHBOARDS ARE OBVIOUSLY GOING TO CAUSE.

THE YEAR OR MODEL OF THE VEHICLE IS IRRELEVANT IF THE CLOCK SPRING PART IN QUESTION (THE ONE IN THE RECALL) WAS/IS STILL BEING INSTALLED ON VEHICLES NOT IN THE RECALL LIKE MINE A 2003 DODGE STRATUS A LITTLE INVESTIGATION ON YOUR END WILL CLEARLY SHOW THIS TO BE THE CASE. I'D BE WILLING TO BET THAT MY CLOCK SPRING HAS THE SAME MANUFACTURING NUMBERS AS THE RECALLED CLOCK SPRINGS . *TR

STRUCTURE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2009-03-02
  • VIN: 4B3AG42G53E
  • Components: STRUCTURE
  • Summary: I OWN A 2003 DODGE STRATUS COUPE IN WHICH THE DASHBOARD IS WARPING AND COMING A LOOSE. I PURCHASED THIS CAR USED IN 2008 IN GREAT CONDITION, HOWEVER AFTER OWNING IT FOR A FEW MONTHS THE DASHBOARD STARTED PULLING AWAY FROM THE SPEEDOMETER, THE AIR CONDITION VENTS AND OTHER PLACES ON THE BOARD. JUST RECENTLY, I HAVE NOTICED THAT THE PROBLEM CONTINUES TO SPREAD AND NOW THE GLOVE DEPARTMENT HAS STARTED UNHINGE ITSELF. THIS HAS BECOME VERY UNSETTLING BECAUSE I AM AFRAID THAT THE AIRBAG WHICH IS ONLY A FEW INCHES ABOVE THE GLOVE DEPARTMENT WILL EVENTUALLY DEPLOY. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SERIOUS MATTER THAT MUST BE ADDRESSED. I HAVE RESEARCHED AND FOUND OUT THAT SEVERAL OWNERS OF CAR ARE FACING THE SAME PROBLEM. NOT MENTION, I HAVE ALSO DISCOVERED THAT A WHITE FILM APPEARS ON THE INTERIOR OF THE WINDOW ABOVE THE DASH WHICH CAUSES A GLARE AND A IMPAIRMENT WHEN I DRIVE. I HAVE TO CONSTANTLY WIPE AND CLEAN THE INSIDE WINDOW WHEN I DRIVE IN ORDER TO SEE. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY WHEN CONDENSATION BUILDS UP ON THE INSIDE. AND THE CONDENSATION BUILDS UP BECAUSE THE DASHBOARD HAS FLIPPED UP TOWARDS THE WINDSHIELD. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO CONSTANTLY WIPE THE INSIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD AS IF I'M A HUMAN WIPER BLADE. *TR

AS A RESULT, THE LOWER CONTROL ARM AND CV AXLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. IT HAS ALSO STARTED TO FADE ON THE TRUNK OF MY VEHICLE AS WELL. THIS ISSUE ONLY SEEMS TO BA HAPPENING TO THE CARS MANUFACTURED WITH BLACK PAINT. OTHER CARS I HAVE SEEN WITH THIS PROBLEM ALSO MANUFACTURED BY MITSUBISHI ARE 1995-2000 CHRYSLER SEBRING COUPE, DODGE AVENGER COUPE, MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE, MITSUBISHI GALANT. ALSO, 2001-2005 DODGE STRATUS COUPE, CHRYSLER SEBRING COUPE, MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE AND GALANT. THE CONDITION WORSENS OVER TIME AND EVENTUALLY START TO GO DOWN THE A,B AND C PILLAR AND HOOD OF THE CAR. AGAIN THIS IS ONLY WITH THE BLACK PAINT. THIS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE BLACK PAINT ON THESE CARS AND AS THE OWNER OF ONE I WOULD LIKE SOMETHING DONE ABOUT IT. *TR

  • Manufacturer: QUALIS AUTOMOTIVE LLC
  • Components: SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM:LOWER BALL JOINT
  • Summary: QUALIS AUTOMOTIVE IS RECALLING CERTAIN AFTERMARKET BALL JOINTS SOLD FOR USE ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES. THE SOCKET MAY HAVE BEEN EXCESSIVELY HARDENED WHICH COULD CAUSE IT TO CRACK NEAR THE RETAINING RING GROOVE ALLOWING THE BALL STUD TO SEPARATE UNDER IMPACT LOAD. THE SUBJECT BALL JOINTS WERE SOLD AS FOUR PART NUMBERS, D10945, D10946, G10945, AND G10946. THE AFFECTED CONTROL ARMS, D10945 AND D10946, ARE STAMPED WITH THE FOLLOWING DATES ON THE BALL JOINTS: 134308, 135708, 100109, 102709, 104109, 105509, 107609, 108909, 110309, 113209, AND 116609. THE G10945 AND G10946 ARE THE SAME PART AS THE D10945 AND D10946 RESPECTIVELY. THEY ARE LABELED DIFFERENTLY DEPENDING ON THE AFTERMARKET CUSTOMER.
  • Consequence: SEPARATION OF THE BALL STUD FROM THE SOCKET OF THE BALL JOINT HOUSING WOULD ALLOW THE CONTROL ARM TO COLLAPSE AND THE WHEEL TO FOLD IN CAUSING LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A CRASH.
  • Remedy: QUALIS AUTOMOTIVE WILL REPLACE THE BALL JOINTS FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 9, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT QUALIS AUTOMOTIVE AT 1-800-493-4128.

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with my car. I was able to find a great deal on a used 2.4 liter SXT model, and it has been such a dependable and wonderful car to own. If you're on a budget, I would definitely recommend this car to you. One tip I have is to consider buying from a private party. Take care!

I have extensive experience driving manual shift cars for over 15 years, and I can confidently say that my recent purchase of a Dodge R/T has been a disappointment. Despite my hopes for a reliable vehicle, this car has been plagued with issues, including repeated ABS failures. Despite my attempts to resolve these issues with Chrysler, I have received little assistance. Additionally, the 5-speed transmission has proven difficult to shift, requiring a double clutch on many occasions. While the dealer has attempted to dismiss these issues as normal, I know from my experience that this is not the case. Furthermore, the car's performance has been lacklustre, especially when compared to our 02 VW Cabrio with a 4-cylinder engine. While the dealer has suggested that the altitude in Colorado may be to blame, I believe that the car simply lacks the horsepower needed to perform well.

I bought my car in October of 2002. It was brand new, with the shrink wrap still on and 0 miles on the odometer. I really like the car and its styling, but it has required a lot of maintenance. Unfortunately, I've had to replace several parts including the rear struts, rear brakes, rear strut mounts, transmission solenoid, coolant overflow, front bearings, and trip computer, on top of normal maintenance. From day one, the car has had a phantom ground issue that occasionally causes problems such as not locking the doors, the sunroof staying open, dash lights going bright, cylinder 5 not firing, and the speedometer acting up. Most recently, the torque converter has started acting up. I would advise being cautious with the RT.

I purchased my 2003 Stratus SE coupe about a year and a half ago. Although it has a little over 100,000 miles, the interior is the best part of the car. It has a sporty look and feel, and all the electronics such as the CD player, moonroof, windows, mirrors, and locks work perfectly. The cloth upholstery is also very durable. While the engine is fast from a dead stop, it can be challenging to pass other cars on the freeway. Additionally, the car goes through tires quickly, and the engine squeaks on random occasions. The paint is also fading all over the car, but overall, it's a great car to drive. The gas mileage is not the best for a 4 cylinder, but it's worth it for the sporty feel.

What a great car! I'm so glad I bought my Stratus. It's powerful, fun to drive, and has more room than most other sedans, especially in the back seat and cargo areas.

I love the car! It's amazing how much it reminds me of my old 92 Chevy Corsica, which I drove for 10 years. I've only had the car for about a month, but I've already received a lot of compliments on it. I have never seen another 4 door R/T on the road, which makes it feel even more special. While it's not as quick as I had hoped, it handles better than I expected. The only downside is that there are only 4 color options.

In December of 2002, I purchased my 2003 Stratus RT after my 2002 Chrysler Sebring sedan was totaled out in an accident caused by someone who ran a stop sign at an estimated speed of over 65 mph. Despite the severity of the accident, I walked away with only a few fractures and bruises, which amazed almost everyone who saw the wreckage of my Sebring. However, my confidence in driving was shaken. Fortunately, I found my Stratus R/T about a month later and purchased it. Since then, I have felt much safer driving it than I did in my Sebring. My Stratus R/T has truly helped me to restore my life.

I can tell you that I absolutely love my car! I've had three other vehicles since I started driving, but my Stratus is by far the most enjoyable in terms of both style and reliability. Dodge, please keep doing what you're doing!

I recently traded in my 2001 Dodge Durango due to its poor fuel mileage of 12/17mpg. I am now very pleased with the 18.5/27.5mpg I am getting with my new car. The 17
