The Dodge Nitro is a compact SUV manufactured and marketed by Dodge for model years 2007-2012 across a single generation — as a close variant of the second-generation Jeep Liberty. Both vehicles use a composite unitized construction integrating the body structure with full-length frame rails.
The Nitro entered production in August 2006 aside the Liberty at the Toledo North Assembly Plant in Toledo, Ohio and was offered in a single, four-door body configuration. Like the Liberty, it was manufactured in RHD and LHD configurations, and marketed globally. Sales commenced in September 2006 for model year 2007 in rear-wheel drive or optional and part-time four-wheel drive. Approximately 200,000 Nitro models were manufactured before production ended in December 2011.
Background
The Nitro debuted in February 2005 at the Chicago Auto Show as a concept with aluminum-trimmed vents door handles and rear hatch, as well as an interior with a center stack and shifter in satin silver.
The Nitro became Dodge's first compact SUV model since the Raider was discontinued in 1990. It also became the first modern Dodge marketed in Europe, where the Nitro was Dodge's only SUV until the 2009 model year when the larger, car-based, lower-priced Dodge Journey crossover SUV arrived.
The Nitro shares mechanicals and much bodywork with its platform-mate, the Jeep Liberty, while using a slightly extended wheelbase, the extra length split between the rear seat and cargo areas.
The Nitro debuted with an SUV class-leading 5,000-pound (2,300 kg) towing capacity. Safety features such as electronic roll mitigation, traction control, and side curtain airbags, as well as a functional sliding cargo floor marketed as Load 'N Go were offered as standard equipment. The system allows a moveable floor panel to slide out from the cargo area by 18 in (457 mm) to ease loading.

- Summary: THE CAR ALARM WILL GO OFF WITHOUT ANY CONTACT ETC. VIDEO RECORDING SHOWS IT WOULD JUST ACTIVATE. IT'S WAKING UP NEIGHBORS ALL THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT WITH NO CONSISTENT TIMES. THE CAR WAS PARKED IN FRONT OF HOME EVERY TIME OBSERVED.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

- Summary: DOOR LOCKS FAILED TO LOCK AND UNLOCK. KEYLESS ENTRY SENDS SIGNALS SUCCECCFULLY, LIGHTS AND HORN ALL FLASH, BUT DOORS WONT OPEN;EVEN FROM THE DOOR PANEL IN THE CAR. FOUND FAULTY FUSE (M38) IN TIPM (FUSE BOX). ONCE CHANGED THE REAR WINDOW WIPER TURNED ON AND WOULD NOT TURN OFF. I PAID AN AUTO TECH WHO TOOK CONTROL OVER SYSYTEM WITH DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT, AND BY PASSED THE WIPER SWITCH. HE WAS ABLE TO CONTROL THE FRONT WIPERS, LIGHTS, HORN AND DOOR LOCKS REMOTELY (WHILE M38 FUSE WAS INSTALLED) BUT HE COULD NOT TURN OFF THE REAR WIPERS. THEY STAYED ON EVEN WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS POWERED DOWN, KEY OUT, DOORS OPEN. HE SAID THE FUSE BOX WAS FAULTY, BECAUSE EVERYTHING ELSE WAS WORKING WHEN HE SENT COMMANDS TO THE COMPUTER. I HAD TO PULL THE FUSE TO GET THE REAR WIPER TO STOP, AND NOW I CANT USE THE DOOR LOCKS. I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS RELATED, BUT AT IDLE THE CAR STUTTERS LIKE IS GOING TO STALL. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR FOR FEAR I MIGHT GET STUCK IF OTHER THINGS BEGIN TO BLOW/SHORT

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 3 recalls for different components of the Dodge Nitro 2010.
- Manufacturer: Chrysler (FCA US LLC)
- Components: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
- Summary: Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2008-2010 Chrysler Town and Country and Dodge Grand Caravan and 2007-2011 Dodge Nitro vehicles. These vehicles may have a loose or missing brand emblem in the center of the steering wheel. The loose emblem or the securing nuts for the emblem within the driver air bag module may become projectiles in the event of a driver air bag deployment.
- Consequence: Projectiles as a result of driver air bag deployment in the event of a crash can increase the risk of injury.
- Remedy: Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver's air bag cover with a redesigned cover, free of charge. The recall began February 11, 2021. Owners may contact FCA US LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is W09.

- Summary: CHRYSLER IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2010 LEFT HAND DRIVE JEEP LIBERTY, DODGE NITRO AND RAM 1500 TRUCK; RIGHT AND LEFT HAND DRIVE JEEP WRANGLER VEHICLES. THESE VEHICLES MAY HAVE BEEN BUILT WITH AN IMPROPERLY FORMED MASTER CYLINDER TO HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT (HCU) BRAKE TUBE ASSEMBLY END FLARE.
- Consequence: THIS COULD LEAD TO LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID AND REDUCED BRAKING PERFORMANCE INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE BRAKE TUBES FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING AUGUST 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CHRYSLER TOLL-FREE AT 1-800-853-1403.

- Consequence: THIS COULD RESULT IN BRAKE FAILURE WITHOUT WARNING WHICH COULD CAUSE A CRASH.
- Remedy: CHRYSLER WILL REPLACE THE BRAKE BOOSTER INPUT ROD RETAINING CLIP FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING FEBRUARY 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT CHRYSLER AT 1-800-853-1403.

I've had my Nitro for just over a month now and I absolutely love it! I haven't had any problems with it and it drives great. The gas mileage is on the low side, but it's still a really fun car to drive.

At 94000 miles, the only negative thing I noticed was a faulty dash light warning for the airbag and tire pressure. However, both of these warnings were incorrect, which is typical for all government-required computer warnings.

I've had SUVs for years and this is my favorite. I researched and drove a lot of SUVs before purchasing and overall, the Nitro just fits what I like perfectly. It looks great inside and out, it's unique, functional, comfortable, and fun to be in and drive. Mine is fully loaded, which makes it even better.

I have been driving this vehicle for about three months and unfortunately, it hasn't been the best fit for me. As a tall guy, I find it difficult to get in and out of the car without hitting my head. Additionally, there are some blind spots that can make it challenging to see out of the window, especially when someone is sitting in the front passenger seat. While the engine may not be the most powerful, it still gets the job done, although it could be more fuel-efficient. I do wish there was more storage space in the car. Overall, while this car may not be the best fit for me, it could still be a great option for someone else.

Possible tire or balancing issue causing vibration at 65 mph. Fuel economy was lower than expected at 14 mpg last tank with about 10 miles of 4wd. However, I am still pleased with the overall appearance of the vehicle. I did not notice any issues during my test drive and am confident that any problems can be resolved.
