SINCE ACCIDENT ON 03-25-01, THE DEALER HAS YET TO RECEIVE THE NEEDED REPLACEMENT AIR BAGS-TODAY'S DATE, 04-16-01. IN SPEAKING WITH VWOA'S ENGINEERING & PARTS DEPTS, THEY SAID DO NOT USUALLY STOCK ITEM IN US AND THAT THE AIRBAGS RESPONDED "CORRECTLY" IN DECELERATION MODE. BESIDES THE COST OF REPLACING THE AIRBAGS, THE DAMAGE TO THE VW WAS MINIMAL (SCRATCH ON LT FT. FENDER & THE NEED TO REPLACE THE LT. FT. SIDE MARKER). IS THERE A PROBLEM W/THESE AIRBAGS? SHOULD THEY HAVE GONE OFF @ SUCH A LOW SPEED? IF SO, THEY COULD HAVE GONE OFF IN HITTING A PARKING GARAGE 'PYLON', NO? PLEASE INFORM ME ASAP ON WHY VWOA DOES NOT HAVE PARTS IN US! I got this as my first car and it has over 200k and I have had no trouble whatsoever! It is extremely reliable and totally fun! It is such a sound car mechanically, I would buy another one!
-
I got this car for my daughter. It's a great car! It's very safe, easy to work on, and the top goes up and down easily (manual). The automatic transmission is okay, but it's not very fast off the line. It's comfortable to drive and not too noisy around town.
-
I've owned this car for a year and a half, and my neighbor, who was the previous owner, only put less than 10k miles on it per year. It was fun to drive until it started having some issues. Surprisingly, it had never had a tune-up until last week, at 85k miles! That really says something about the car's durability. I had to replace two mufflers, but luckily they were covered by warranty. I highly recommend taking good care of your VW, as the parts can be quite expensive. It's a shame my neighbor didn't take better care of it.

I can't believe that VW stopped building these cars. Hopefully, it's just a marketing ploy and we'll see these cars rolling off the line soon.

This is a used car, but don't worry, it's still in great condition! I particularly enjoy driving it on sunny summer days. It may run a bit slower in the city, but it really picks up speed on the highway. It's worth noting that there have been some issues after 100,000kms, such as the light bulb not always working and the parts being more expensive than those of Japanese cars. However, overall, I believe that VW still produces high-quality cars.

"shame on me" ! I ordered this car online ... ran the CARFAX (ccame out "clean"). What a beauty she was when she arived- just screamed FUN ! .... wrong answer ! Has been a true to life money pit ! We dropped about 1 K in it as soon as it arrived ( changing oil, hoses- you name it !). But had/still has electrical problems that baffle everyone !!! It's been a spooky, fun, totally un-predictable lil car to drive. After dumping over 2k in the car - we are now trying to sell it= gulllpppp.
