The Dodge Nitro is a compact SUV manufactured and marketed by Dodge for model years 2007-2012 across a single generation — as a close variant of the second-generation Jeep Liberty. Both vehicles use a composite unitized construction integrating the body structure with full-length frame rails.
The Nitro entered production in August 2006 aside the Liberty at the Toledo North Assembly Plant in Toledo, Ohio and was offered in a single, four-door body configuration. Like the Liberty, it was manufactured in RHD and LHD configurations, and marketed globally. Sales commenced in September 2006 for model year 2007 in rear-wheel drive or optional and part-time four-wheel drive. Approximately 200,000 Nitro models were manufactured before production ended in December 2011.
Background
The Nitro debuted in February 2005 at the Chicago Auto Show as a concept with aluminum-trimmed vents door handles and rear hatch, as well as an interior with a center stack and shifter in satin silver.
The Nitro became Dodge's first compact SUV model since the Raider was discontinued in 1990. It also became the first modern Dodge marketed in Europe, where the Nitro was Dodge's only SUV until the 2009 model year when the larger, car-based, lower-priced Dodge Journey crossover SUV arrived.
The Nitro shares mechanicals and much bodywork with its platform-mate, the Jeep Liberty, while using a slightly extended wheelbase, the extra length split between the rear seat and cargo areas.
The Nitro debuted with an SUV class-leading 5,000-pound (2,300 kg) towing capacity. Safety features such as electronic roll mitigation, traction control, and side curtain airbags, as well as a functional sliding cargo floor marketed as Load 'N Go were offered as standard equipment. The system allows a moveable floor panel to slide out from the cargo area by 18 in (457 mm) to ease loading.

I drive on the highway everyday their's no warning it happens at random 2 times I've been lucky. No codes came up driving after clearing it and the car drives fine now but it's happened 2 times while driving this is extremely dangerous and I don't know what to do because with the codes gone the issues are gone but they randomly all the lights mentioned above come on and then the car shuts off with no warning then when you restart it it throws a different code for a different problem the first time was a low voltage code I cleared it and even Tho my battery tested good I replaced it and two days later the same issue and a different code

- Summary: Airbags: This vehicle has had a recall for a "Ram" emblem being placed over the airbag such that it becomes a projectile in an airbag depleyment. Dodge makes it very difficult to avail of getting it removed. I am not close to the dealership, I am very busy and somewhat disabled. Since the first notice arrived in the mail-- maybe three years ago-- I have returned the notices with a request for them to send a tech to my home and make the repair. I see there has been at least one death due to this obvious flaw, butthey have not cared enough to answer. Why should I take a day so that they can fix this deadly "extra feature" of shrapnel being placed over an explosive? Electrical: This is a serious safety issue that Dodge will not recognize or even discuss. Getting the window back up is a matter of finessing the "up" switch every which way, multiple attempts required (switch has now fallen out). Very distracting, after going through a toll booth after dark and 15 degrees. You can't stop and F with it, you have to do it on the move. It can take as long as five minutes to get it back up (Window now completely disabled). They will do anything to save seventeen cents per car, who cares if it makes it unsafe for the owner. Not Dodge! I wrote to Dodge (no reply), then the MI Attorney General about this, they responded "We have written to this manufacturer twice and have not received a response". Dodge takes no responsibility for their shoddy work. We pay, we die, they keep doing what they do. It disappoints that even the AG's "Consumer Protection Division" has no teeth. Visibility: It would be interesting to learn how many pedestrians have been hit with this particular model. With all the safety regs out there, it's amazing that a design that blocks visibility gets a pass. Unfortunately it is not the kind of thing you can discover in a test drive, but - crosswalks and four-way stops in particular are dangerous. You can hide a Ryder truck behind these A pillars.

This truck may not be for everyone, but it was the perfect fit for me. I compared it to some SUVs, but found them to be too small. The size of this truck was exactly what I was looking for. Additionally, it had the best sticker price and could tow the most, which was important for me to bring my Mustang to the track. Another reason I chose this truck was because it was so bare bones, which allowed me to modify it to my liking. It's like a Jeep in better clothing. I take my Nitro out to the Arizona trails and see tons of Jeeps, but I've never once seen a lifted Nitro like mine out there.

The towing is amazing! You can tow a big camper and a horse trailer without sinking the suspension. The power, ride, and handling are all good. It's great to hear that you haven't had to fix anything yet. This is a rock solid vehicle for smaller people. My wife wanted a Jeep so I test drove everything they had and bought the Nitro instead. I gave this vehicle a good rating because it offers great value for its price compared to everything else in its category. While it may not be the fastest or most powerful option, it costs $7000 less than the next competitor and offers much better performance per dollar. Additionally, it is much more fun to drive than the super soft inadequate feeling suspension on the grandma grocery getter Jeeps I drove.

I really like this SUV! It has a high ride and handles corners well, with the computer protecting the vehicle from over acceleration. You can override this with EVP off, but I wouldn't recommend it. The V6 engine is powerful and can run fast off the line, especially the R/T model. With cruise control, you can get great mileage on the highway (27 mpg). The rear seats are spacious, but exiting the vehicle can be awkward, especially for children under 10 due to the height of the vehicle and short floor. The front legroom is a little narrow, and there is some interior wind buffeting if only the rear window is down. It warms up quickly for heat/defrost (around 10 minutes at 10F), and the Cat Back exhaust gives the vehicle a nice growl. Just remember to turn off 4WD before tight turns, like when parking in a mall.

I've been the proud owner of my 2008 Blue Nitro for almost two weeks now. It's a significant investment for me since I hadn't made a payment on a vehicle in almost six months. Previously, I had a Red Jeep Liberty Limited 2002 that I paid off in January, and I was so relieved to see it go. During the last three months I had it, I had nothing but problems with it. When I saw the Electric Blue Nitro online, I knew I had to have one. I set my mind to it and finally found one with low mileage that was blue, and I purchased it with no problem. The sound system is also a plus, and I have Sirius satellite radio for three months at no extra charge. If you're interested, I highly recommend checking it out and taking it for a test drive.

This has been a great dependable vehicle! It could use a bit more horsepower, as it can be slow when merging into traffic. The rear suspension is a bit stiff, which can make for a harsh ride. However, it's excellent in snow or wet weather, and the boxy design allows for a lot of rear storage.

The Nitro is an excellent vehicle for driving in the mountains of Colorado, with great gearing that allows for climbing hills without downshifting. Although the mileage is not as good as my RAM 1500, the Nitro's cute and pugnacious appearance, smooth ride on 17 inch tires (20's were rough), and ease of maneuvering in parking lots make it a great choice. Despite initial concerns during the 1600 mile break-in period, my confidence in the Nitro has grown and any buyer's remorse has faded away.

Well, I got the Nitro in August 2009 and since then I have had no problems except for the side mirrors button. Fortunately, the warranty covered it. I am thrilled to have one!

I love the look of the Dodge Nitro but it has not been a reliable car. It's possible I received a lemon because I have had the following problems.. 1. Back Windshield Wiper snapped in half the second time it was used. 2. At least twice a month the dash board lights all come on, the bells start ringing and the car stalls for a moment and then runs again. 3. 2 of the 4 windows do not work. 4. 2 of the 4 door handles snapped in half so you have to roll down the working window to open the door from the outside. 5. Windshield wipers stall when it rains hard. (Almost had an accident from this). 6. Brakes making noises. Called Chrysler regarding recalls. They said vin doesn match recalls.

I really enjoyed my car at first, but unfortunately, it has been experiencing some issues. In the first month, it stopped working and had to be towed. The dealer fixed an ignition problem, but a few months later, the horn, windshield wipers, and radio started malfunctioning while I was driving. I had to pull over and turn off the car to make it stop. The dealer said it was a computer issue and fixed it. This week, the emission light came on, and I was unable to get it inspected today. I have to take it in again tomorrow. It's frustrating that these issues are happening with a brand new car, but I'm hopeful that they will be resolved soon.
