2001 Dodge Neon problems
The Neon is a compact car that was built from in January 1994 until 2005 by the American Chrysler Corporation over two generations. It has a front-engine, front-wheel-drive layout and came in two-door and four-door sedan body styles. In the United States it was sold as either a Dodge or a Plymouth, while in Europe, Mexico, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Egypt, Australia, South Africa, and South America it was branded as a Chrysler, the Neon was offered in multiple versions and configurations over its production life, which lasted from the 1995 model year until 2005. The Neon nameplate was subsequently resurrected in 2016 for the Dodge Neon, a rebadged variant of Fiat Tipo sedan for the Mexican market.
1991 concept car
The Neon nameplate first appeared as a concept car in 1991 under the Dodge brand. Although radically styled and clearly not production-ready featuring sliding suicide doors, the Neon concept resembled the future production vehicle.
The Neon concept was designed by Chrysler designers who had joined the company from Chrysler's buyout of American Motors Corporation (AMC) in 1987.

Common 2001 Dodge Neon problems
The Dodge Neon, produced from 1995 to 2005, has garnered mixed reviews regarding its reliability. Despite some criticisms, many owners have reported that the Neon is a dependable and durable car. However, there are some common problems that Neon owners have reported over the years.
One of the most common issues is a malfunctioning cooling fan. The cooling fan is responsible for maintaining the engine's temperature, and if it fails, it can cause the engine to overheat. This problem is particularly prevalent in the 2001 Dodge Neon, which has a 2.0L engine. If the timing belt or water pump has not been replaced within the recommended interval of 105,000 miles, the engine is at risk of severe damage if the cooling fan fails.
Another common problem reported by Neon owners is a musty smell coming from the HVAC system. This issue is often caused by mold or mildew growth in the system's evaporator coil, which can be difficult to clean without professional help.
In addition to these issues, some Neon owners have reported problems with the car's transmission. For example, some owners have reported that they can't shift the car into reverse or drive, which can be caused by a variety of issues, including a faulty shift solenoid or a damaged transmission control module.
Another common problem reported by Neon owners is a water leak coming in from the seal in the rear end. This issue can be caused by a variety of factors, including a damaged or worn-out seal, a cracked or damaged trunk floor, or a faulty sunroof drain system.
Finally, some Neon owners have reported problems with the car's electrical system. For example, some owners have reported that the car's dashboard displays a "FUSE" warning, which can be caused by a variety of issues, including a blown fuse, a faulty instrument cluster, or a wiring problem.
In conclusion, while the Dodge Neon has garnered mixed reviews regarding its reliability, there are some common problems that Neon owners have reported over the years. These issues include a malfunctioning cooling fan, a musty smell from the HVAC system, transmission problems, water leaks, and electrical issues. If you own a Neon, it's essential to stay on top of routine maintenance and address any issues as soon as they arise to ensure the longevity and reliability of your vehicle.

Is A Dodge Neon A Good car?
Standing on the Neon's gas is more fun than anyone would expect of thrifty car. The engine has plenty of torque, so you're never a sitting duck if you get caught with the revs down, and it pull happily all the way to its 6500-rpm redline (tachometer is available on higher-level Neons).
Why did Dodge stop making Neons?
Even though the Dodge Neon performs well in its category, the many engines, brakes, lighting, and transmission problems have dented its popularity. A dip in popularity has resulted in Dodge stopping the Neon production completely. Dodge has introduced other new models and vehicles that have gained immense popularity.
Is a 2000 Dodge Neon a good car?
It's a great car and my family gets around in it just fine after 18 years. It's great on mileage and good for road trips. There are a few things that have been replaced such as the clutch, a head gasket, and now a radiator which are all inexpensive if you replace them yourself.

LATER, SMOKE CAME FROM BEHIND THE STEERING COLUMN, AND THE FOG LIGHTS TURNED OFF, BUT WOULD NOT TURN ON. 1 MONTH LATER, MORE SMOKE CAME FROM BEHIND THE STEERING COLUMN, WITH A BAD ODOR, AND THE HEADLIGHTS STOPPED WORKING. NOW, I HAVE HAD TO BUY THE MFS (MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH) BUT IT DOES NOT WORK, AS THE WIRING HARNESS AND WIRES ARE BURNED. THE DODGE DEALER SAYS THAT THE ENTIRE WIRING LOOM HAS TO BE REPLACED FOR SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS. I HAVE RESEARCHED ONLINE, AND HAVE FOUND SEVERAL COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME ISSUE. MY CONCERN IS THAT HEADLIGHTS, TAILLIGHTS, TURN SIGNALS, ETC, SHOULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE, AND I HAVE SEEN THAT MANY OTHER NEON OWNERS HAVE HAD TAILLIGHTS GO OUT, TURN SIGNALS NOT OPERATE, ETC. I CHECKED 7 CARS IN JUNK YARDS TODAY, AND FOUND THAT ALL OF THEM HAD BURNED WIRES AND HARNESSES. DODGE SHOULD REMEDY THIS ISSUE, WHICH IS CLEARLY RELATED TO SAFETY. *TR

When I was looking for a small car to transport my newborn child and keep the mess out of my show car, I considered all the small compacts available. After test driving them all, I decided to try out a Neon. I was pleasantly surprised to find that once I got in the car, I forgot I was in a 'Neon' and it felt more like a high-end sedan. While the engine power is just okay, with a few bolt-ons, the car can easily keep up with everyday Hondas. The handling is comparable to my old Mustang, and the looks of this car are definitely Mopar. I love the attention I get when passing people on the highway or when I'm in a parking lot and have people ask, 'Is that a Neon?!'
-
I bought the car used when I was in school, and it had 150,000 km's on it. However, the car never let me down and it was a great buy. Although the car seems to have a bad reputation, I really can't find many negative things to say about it. I eventually sold it to buy a new BMW 3 series when I finished school, mainly because I needed a more grown-up machine. If you're looking for a cheap, long-lasting little economy car with a bit of sport, the RT Neon is a great option!
-
This is the best economical car that I have ever owned! It looks sporty but at the same time, the price is less than that of a real 'sports' car. It has a lot of power for a little car. I live in the mountains, and it handles the hills great!
-
I'm glad to hear that you've had no issues with your Neon! It sounds like you're really enjoying driving it. Even though it has a small engine, it seems like it's a blast to drive with the 5-speed transmission. It's great to hear that it handles well and has a decent ride, especially for a small car.
-
Great buy! I bought the car brand new for $8K on the last day of the month. I've had two minor issues, but the dealership fixed one of them by replacing the steering column free of charge. The other issue is the sound the brakes make when wet, but I knew that was a potential problem.

During the first two years, I had to visit the shop about a dozen times for repairs that shouldn't have been necessary for a new car. Unfortunately, it vibrates too much, the engine surges, and the gearshift doesn't disengage sometimes when the brake is pressed. Additionally, the auto sunroof broke and the engine mounts had to be replaced. I understand your frustration, but please know that I am here to help. If you have any further concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

You bought this vehicle for your wife to commute back and forth from college, which is approximately a 100-mile round trip. The price was $10,000.00 brand new. Unfortunately, after six months, the battery died, and after 36,000 miles, water soaked the trunk and rear passenger floor after rain. The fit and finish of the body panels were very poor. It's important to note that the price may be cheap, but the quality is not up to par. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

This is a decent car overall, but it may be a bit expensive for its type, especially with a three-speed automatic priced at $600. It's worth noting that this model has had at least one recall on the brakes, so it's important to ensure that the recall work has been done. Failure to address the recall issue can lead to total brake failure while stopping. The car has good city fuel economy and acceptable highway fuel economy. However, the cabin may feel a bit cramped if you're taller than 5'8
