Dodge Daytona problems
The Dodge Daytona is an automobile which was produced by the Chrysler Corporation under their Dodge division from 1984 until 1993. It was a front-wheel drive hatchback based on the Chrysler G platform, which was derived from the Chrysler K platform. The Chrysler Laser was an upscale rebadged version of the Daytona. The Daytona was restyled for 1987, and again for 1992. It replaced the Mitsubishi Galant-based Challenger, and slotted between the Charger and the Conquest. The Daytona was replaced by the 1995 Dodge Avenger, which was built by Mitsubishi Motors. The Daytona derives its name mainly from the Dodge Charger Daytona, which itself was named after the Daytona 500 race in Daytona Beach, Florida.
History
The Daytona originally used the 2.2 L Chrysler K engine in naturally aspirated or turbocharged form. Power outputs are 93 and 142 hp (69 and 106 kW) respectively. The 100-horsepower (75 kW), 2.5-litre K engine was added for 1986. In 1985, the 2.2-L Turbo I engine's horsepower was increased to 146 hp (109 kW). The 1984 Daytona was available in three trim lines: standard, Turbo and Turbo Z. Total production was 49,347. The Daytona Turbo was on Car and Driver magazine's 10Best list for 1984. Both the Daytona and Chrysler Laser were available with the Chrysler electronic voice alert system through 1987. A performance oriented "Shelby" version of the Daytona was introduced in 1987.
1984
The Daytona debuted with a 142 hp Turbo I motor. Many Turbo Z models were produced and were more luxurious than other years due to their use of Mark Cross leather, light up speakers, and rear amplifier switches. These options were dropped after 1984.

Common Dodge Daytona problems
Based on complaints from owners of Dodge Daytona cars, here are some common problems associated with this model:
- Brake Pads Falling Off (1990 Daytona):
- Another common problem reported by owners is brake pads falling off in the 1990 Daytona model. This issue can pose a significant safety risk, affecting the vehicle's braking performance and requiring immediate attention.
- Engine Stalling While Driving (1984 Daytona):
- Owners have experienced instances where the engine stalls while driving the 1984 Daytona model. This can be a dangerous situation, especially if it occurs unexpectedly on the road, necessitating thorough diagnostics and repairs.
- High Idle (1986 Daytona):
- Some owners have reported that the 1986 Daytona model idles too high. High idling can lead to various issues such as reduced fuel efficiency, increased wear on engine components, and potential drivability concerns that need to be addressed promptly.
- Rear Window Defroster Malfunction (1988 Daytona):
- A common problem with the 1988 Daytona is the rear window defroster breaking down. This can be inconvenient, especially in colder climates where a functioning defroster is essential for visibility. Repair or replacement may be necessary to restore this feature.
These common problems highlight some of the issues faced by Dodge Daytona owners over the years, ranging from safety concerns like brake failures and visibility issues to performance-related issues such as engine stalling and high idling. Addressing these problems promptly through proper diagnosis and repairs is crucial to ensure the continued reliability and safety of these vehicles.
What's so special about the Dodge Daytona?
One of the two famous aero-cars, the Dodge Daytona had featured special body modifications that included a 23-inch-tall (584 mm) stabilizer wing on the rear deck, a special sheet-metal "nose cone" that replaced the traditional upright front grille, a flush rear backlight (rear window area), a 'window cap' to cover the ...
Why are Dodge Daytonas so expensive?
The Daytona is scarcer as only 503 examples left the assembly line. And like most Mopars from the golden era, the HEMI versions are sought-after and expensive. Of the 1,935 Superbirds made in 1970, only 135 were equipped with the mighty 426-cubic-inch (7.0-liter) HEMI.
Is a Dodge Daytona rare?
We already knew the 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona was rare given that only 503 were produced, but with the 426-cubic-inch HEMI® V8 engine and 4-speed A833 manual transmission upgrades, those numbers just dropped to double digits. When you count the Copper Metallic finish, this Daytona becomes one-of-one.
How many Dodge Daytonas left?
as of currently the dodge registry there are 92 charger daytonas known to exist. only 11 are Hemis. considering that on chryslers books they claimed to have produced 505 daytonas but there is rummored that they reused vins on there books to get into nascar.

I've owned this beauty for almost 7 months now and I must say, I've had some small issues, but she hasn't let me down at all. Mine is not a Shelby, but a C/S edition which has all of the Shelby package in it and runs like a rocket. This is my favorite car of all time and with some cheap upgrades, you can make these run 11-12 in 1/4 mile. The only thing is, because I got the Shelby's Maximum Performance package, my suspensions are so stiff that the car doesn't like bumps at all.

Looking for a stylish and affordable ride? Consider the V6 Daytona! While the body structure, engine mounting, and rear hatch area may be a bit outdated since its original design in the early 80s, the 1993 Dayona has received many updates that make it a great choice. With a nice interior, decent drivetrain, and good utility, this car can even fit a 50 gallon water heater or your entire mountain bike! Look for a low mileage, well-maintained V6 Daytona and hit the road in style!

I purchased this car used in 1994 and it has been a reliable companion throughout its 140,000 miles. With nothing but routine maintenance, it has never let me down. Even today, it still turns heads whether at a car show or spooling the turbo down the track.

It's great value for money and the most enjoyable car to drive. Every time you get in, the car's design just makes you want to go fast! I still have mine and have restored it, putting nice wheels on it. I didn't like the original ones. Today, it looks better than the day I drove it off the lot new! Mine is the 1993 Daytona IROC. I absolutely love it!

I purchased this car from a private seller around 2 years ago for $1000. Although I've had to spend around $700 on repairs due to blown head gaskets and radiators, I still enjoy driving it. The car's sound is particularly impressive, and I love the growl of the Mitsubishi V6 engine. The interior is also great, with comfortable bucket seats that are perfect for sleeping in. However, I must admit that the car's fuel efficiency is not great, with only 8 MPG in the city and 14 MPG on the highway. Overall, I would recommend this car to someone who is willing to invest in upgrades, such as buying the IROC or converting it to a V8 RWD, to make it a true muscle car.

Vehicle year: 1992
I purchased my car for $1000 with 150000 miles and unfortunately, within 8 months, I experienced multiple issues including engine failure, transmission problems, two clutch replacements due to a snapped bolt, flywheel malfunction, drive axle issues, subframe corrosion, and even a broken frame while driving on the highway causing a wheel to detach from the car. The carburetor was also damaged and the heads were gummed up, resulting in a fuel economy of only 4MPG. Despite my efforts, this car was unreliable and heavy, and it has left me with a negative impression of Chrysler.

Vehicle year: 1992
Hey there! I heard that your neighbor owns a 91 Daytona, but unfortunately, it seems like the car has been causing him a lot of trouble. It looks like many of the issues stem from the poorly designed 3 litre V6 engine, and it seems like just about everything that could go wrong with the car has. If you're thinking about buying this model, I would recommend being cautious. However, it's worth noting that the car's dependability and performance can greatly improve with proper maintenance. Just a helpful hint! :)
