What year is the most reliable Dodge Caravan?

The Dodge Grand Caravans with the best reliability are the 2020, 2007, and 2010 models. Some of the top Dodge Grand Caravan problems include shifting issues, a faulty Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM), and engine troubles.

Do Dodge Caravans have problems?

Other common problems for various Dodge Caravan model years include the front crankshaft seal popping out, power door lock failure, and engine stalling.

What is the problem with the Dodge 3.3 engine?

Many engine failures in the 3.3/3.8L V6 have been attributed to cam bearing failure, which can usually be traced back to a low oil level or loss of oil pressure due to a worn oil pump. When the cam bearings are starved for oil, metal particles can flake off and circulate throughout the engine.

How many miles will a Dodge Caravan last?

Typically, a Dodge Grand Caravan will survive 200,000-300,000 miles with excellent care, which places high mileage for the vehicle around the 200,000-mile mark and good mileage at 150,000 miles. Anything better than these numbers is a testament to your effort.

STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2012-06-30
  • Components: STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
  • Summary: THIS VEHICLE HAS A CHRONIC DESIGN PROBLEM WITH THROWING ITS SERPENTINE BELT WHENEVER THE TENSION PULLEY GETS WET. SOON AS THE BELT IS THROWN THERE IS NO POWER STEERING, AND IT STEERS 10 TIMES WORSE THAN A MACK TRUCK. THE LACK OF STEERING IS A DEFINITE SAFETY HAZARD TO EVERY OTHER VEHICLE ON THE ROAD. AS IT HAPPENS SUDDENLY BY DRIVING THROUGH A WATER PUDDLE, ETC. THERE IS VIRTUALLY NO TIME TO REACT. IN ADDITION TO LACK OF STEERING THERE IS NO ALTERNATOR OUTPUT, RESULTING IN RAPID BATTERY DRAIN. ALSO THERE IS NO COOLANT SYSTEM FAN RESULTING IN RAPID ENGINE OVERHEATING. THIS DESIGN FAULT HAS BEEN KNOWN FOR WELL OVER A DECADE, NO MAKE THAT 2 DECADES, BUT CHRYSLER HAS NEVER ACKNOWLEDGED A PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM DATES BACK TO ALL CHRYSLER MINI-VAN DESIGNS FROM THE EARLY 1990S TO AT LEAST 2000. IF THE LACK OF STEERING IS NOT A SAFETY RELATED DEFECT I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS. WE HAVE A USED WHEELCHAIR CONVERSION CARAVAN VAN TO TRANSPORT MY WIFE. THIS LATEST INCIDENT WAS THE PAST SATURDAY NIGHT AS WE LEFT A RESTAURANT TO RETURN HOME. IT HAD BEEN RAINING PROFUSELY AND SUDDENLY I HAD NO STEERING. I KNEW IMMEDIATELY WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS SINCE THIS IS THE 3RD OCCURRENCE IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS. DO YOU EXPECT YOUR VEHICLE TO BECOME INOPERABLE JUST BECAUSE YOU DRIVE IN THE RAIN? WHY HAS NOT CHRYSLER BEEN MADE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS PROBLEM AND ISSUE A REPAIR RECALL? I DON'T CARE IF THE VAN IS OVER A DECADE OLD. THIS DEFECT IS ONE WHICH ENDANGERS EVERYONE ELSE ON THE ROAD AND WHICH CHRYSLER SHOULD HAVE BEEN REQUIRED TO ADDRESS WELL OVER A DECADE AGO. *TR

Negative Dodge Caravan 1996 car reviews

  1. Brain O'Connell 2024-11-23

The design is very innovative, and while we did experience some issues with the quality and reliability, we were able to make use of our 7 year 100k mile Dodge warranty to address them. Unfortunately, we did encounter multiple major problems with the transmission (4), including a complete replacement, as well as issues with the cooling system, A/C (5), and a belt tensioner that fails like clockwork every 20K miles since new. We also experienced several other less critical problems that were too numerous to mention here. Despite the $50 warranty deductibles we had to pay after 36k miles, the long warranty enabled us to keep the car longer than we would have if we were footing the bills.

  2. Horacio Kemmer 2024-10-05

The car has been troublesome from the beginning. Despite Chrysler's inability to fix the issues during the warranty period, I am confident that I can resolve the problems now that it is out of warranty.

  3. Herman Luettgen 2024-09-22

This is the second mini-van out of three that I have owned. Although I have had some issues with the air conditioning, the car is very functional, roomy, and has decent handling. It has always gotten us to our destination. However, I have had to spend over $600 on AC repairs every single year. Each year, a different major part has gone out, and each part costs $600. I have taken it to dealers, AC shops, and specialists, and the story is always the same. Unfortunately, the compressor on the 2001 AWD version has just blown. It can be frustrating, but overall, the car has served its purpose.

  4. Elliott Schaden 2024-08-25

I had a Dodge Colt as my last car and it lasted me a good 10 years. However, I made the mistake of assuming that the Caravan would be just as reliable. Unfortunately, it came with some defective window seals that caused water to leak onto the passenger side floor during rain. Additionally, I experienced an oil leak and a broken shift indicator that left me stranded hundreds of miles from home. I've had to replace the belts multiple times, and one even broke without warning. On top of that, I've had to deal with oil leaks, antifreeze leaks, squishy brakes, and occasional stalls. At 85,000 miles, I'm experiencing some issues with the windshield wipers turning on intermittently, the belts squeaking, the brakes needing replacement again, the horn being broken, and the airbag being recalled. Despite these issues, I've decided not to repair it.

  5. Santino Kreiger 2024-08-17

The minivan has a great design both inside and out, but unfortunately, it has proven to be unreliable. We have had to fix something every month, ranging from minor electrical problems to major transmission issues.

Hey there! I noticed that you've had your van for a while now. That's great to hear! I'm glad to know that you got a good van at the time.

  4. Americo Hegmann 2024-04-19

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my van. I bought it used 2 years ago with 68,000 miles on it and have since driven it to Florida, California, and back. It has been a very reliable vehicle overall. However, I have had a few minor issues with things like the cupholder cover and other small plastic parts breaking on the inside. Recently, the A/C went out and I had to replace the radiator. Despite these issues, I've been pretty happy with my Caravan.

  5. Stanley Hoeger 2024-03-21

I've had my 96 Dodge Caravan for almost 8 years now and it has been incredibly reliable. I've only needed to change the tires, brakes, and do regular maintenance. It's definitely the most dependable vehicle I've ever owned!
