2004 Chrysler 300m problems

chrysler logo

The Chrysler 300M is a full-size luxury car that was produced by Daimler/Chrysler from 1999 to 2004. It is a front-wheel drive, 255 hp (190 kW; 259 PS) V6 engined car using the Chrysler LH platform. Versus its platform mates, the 300M was roughly 10 inches (25 cm) shorter to make it more easily exportable to Europe. Priced above the Concorde and identically to the LHS, the 300M shared Chrysler's flagship position with the LHS until the LHS's discontinuation after 2001, upon which it became Chrysler's sole flagship model.

Design

Prior to Chrysler redesigning the LH-cars in 1998, the Eagle Vision filled the "import-fighter" segment. Its second-generation replacement was reportedly benchmarked against the BMW 5 Series, yet with Chrysler discontinuing the entire Eagle line after 1998, the automaker shifted this vehicle to the Chrysler lineup, bringing back the famed "300" model name. Although the cars were not rear-wheel-drive, special-production models, nor V8-powered with engines rated at 300 horsepower as did the historic models, the 300M used the next letter available in the 300 Letter Series, following the 1965 300L. The 300M also lacked the traditional "cross-hair" grille of previous 300 models, as by the mid-1980s it had been adopted by sister division Dodge for its entire model line.

Had the Eagle brand not been dropped, the 300M reportedly would have been sold as a redesigned Eagle Vision. Test cars, factory manuals, and design images were prepared for the second-generation Vision featuring a prominent Eagle badge on the grille. Sharing its powertrain and interior with the Chrysler LHS, the 300M was some ten inches shorter in overall length, allowing it to fit the European "5-metre" (16.4 ft) size class for exports to Europe. Despite this, wheelbase was shared with all other second generation LH cars, with reductions in length coming from shortened front and rear overhangs.

Common 2004 Chrysler 300m problems

The Chrysler 300M, a popular vehicle produced between 1999 and 2004, is known for its unique design and powerful performance. However, like any other car, it has its share of common problems and issues that owners have reported over the years. Here are some of the most frequently mentioned problems with the 2004 Chrysler 300M, based on complaints from owners.

  • Check Engine Light (P0441): Another common issue reported by 300M owners is the presence of a check engine light with the code P0441. This code indicates an issue with the evaporative emission control system, which is responsible for preventing fuel vapors from escaping into the atmosphere. While this may not be a major safety concern, it can affect the car's fuel efficiency and performance.
  • Interior Issues: The 300M has been known to have a variety of interior issues, including a cracked dashboard, a malfunctioning A/C system, and random flashing of dash lights and headlights. These issues can be frustrating for drivers who rely on a comfortable and functional interior to enjoy their driving experience.
  • Engine Issues: Some 300M owners have reported issues with the engine, including bad connecting rod bearings. This issue can lead to engine failure and require expensive repairs. However, it seems to be more common in the 02-04 Special models than in other years.
  • Brake Rotors Warping: Another common issue reported by 300M owners is the tendency for brake rotors to warp easily. This can lead to decreased braking performance and require frequent replacements, which can be costly over time.
  • Plastic Radiator: The 300M is known for its plastic radiator, which can be prone to cracking and leaking. This issue can lead to overheating and engine damage if not addressed promptly.

Overall, the Chrysler 300M is a reliable vehicle with a unique design and powerful performance. However, like any other car, it has its share of common problems and issues that owners should be aware of. By staying informed and addressing these issues promptly, 300M owners can enjoy a safe and enjoyable driving experience.

CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE ESTABLISHED A CASE NUMBER [XXX], SENT IT TO SPECIAL INVESTIGATIONS UNIT AND SENT A PERSON TO INSPECT THE CAR. ABOUT 2 WEEKS LATER I WAS INFORMED THAT SINCE THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY CHRYSLER HAD NO LIABILITY. WE ARE HAVING THE SEAT BELT AND SENSOR REPLACED [ABOUT $2,000], THE WINDSHIELD REPLACED ABOUT $800 WITH SOME INSURANCE RECOVERY] AND RENTING A CAR DURING THE 7-10 DAYS FROM NOW WHILE PARTS ARE ORDERED AND REPAIRS MADE. CERTAINLY I BELIEVE CHRYSLER SHOULD COVER THESE COSTS. BUT IN ADDITION I THINK CHRYSLER OWNERS SHOULD BE MADE AWARE OF THE RISK OF THESE DEFECTIVE SENSORS. IN OUR CASE THERE WAS NO PASSENGER AND THE CAR WAS MOVING SLOWLY. HOWEVER, IF THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED IN THIS MANNER WHILE ON A HIGHWAY, THERE COULD BE SIGNIFICANT RISK TO PASSENGER AND DRIVER. *TR

Negative 2004 Chrysler 300m car reviews

  1. Leone Blick 2024-10-05

This car is quite a mixed bag for me. On one hand, it has a sleek, low, NASCAR inspired style that I find beautiful. It's also incredibly powerful on the freeway and has an impressive rumble in town thanks to its 3.5 litre motor. The interior design and bells & whistles are top-notch and really add to the overall experience. However, I have to admit that it's not the best in snowy conditions, even with snow tires. It can be quite nerve-wracking to drive in those conditions. Additionally, the low profile can cause some issues with parking blocks and the front facia. The climate control can also be a bit finicky and expensive to fix. Finally, I did have a scary incident on the freeway due to a failure of the engine cam sensor. Overall, it's a car with some great features and some drawbacks, but I still enjoy driving it.

  2. Tyshawn Stehr 2024-09-26

This car had some impressive European styling, including a Carbon Fiber dash, Xenon Headlamps, and Turn Signals on the Mirrors. It was a joy to drive on the interstate or on county roads. Although I didn't get to drive it as much as I would have liked, I made sure to take good care of it. Unfortunately, there were some issues with the transmission fluid leaking constantly, but thankfully I had a warranty to cover the repairs. While the $100 deductible for each of the 7 repairs was a bit steep, it was still better than the $1,100 I would have had to pay without the warranty. Despite the issue not being resolved, I eventually traded the car in.

  3. Stephan Thiel 2024-08-18

I have enjoyed the vehicle's sleek and understated design. However, I have experienced some reliability issues, requiring several major overhauls already.

The paint quality is not great and scratches easily. Additionally, the car's aerodynamics can cause ashes to fly back into the vehicle if you are a smoker. The placement of the lighter is also not very convenient. Furthermore, if you polish the dashboard to a high shine, it may be difficult to see through the windshield in sunny conditions.

I've had my 300M for over 3 years and it has been perfect. Only 24,000 miles but every one a pleasure to drive, especially when going to Kentucky to see my daughter. I get 28.6MPG at 65MPH and it takes the hills in WV like a dream. Best regards, George

If you're in the market for a zippy full-size car, you should definitely take this one for a test drive. It has a good driving feel, plenty of space, good acceleration, a great stereo, and is pretty quiet (most of the noise comes from the tires). I really like the whole package!

Clean design, smooth ride, great car! Your 300 is a fun car to drive and I'm glad to hear that you haven't had any complaints so far. It handles well on the road with the powerful engine, and the Autostick feature sounds like a lot of fun to use.

It's great to hear that you're interested in our car! It's definitely a fun ride, whether you prefer an automatic or stick shift. The interior is quite spacious and comes with luxurious leather and all the power features you could want. We truly believe that you won't find a better value for your money. Thank you for considering our car!

The front end of the car sits too low to the ground. When pulling into a parking space, it's important to watch out for the cement tire stop to avoid the bumper skirt going over it. When backing up, it can hang up and tear loose from where it is fastened to the fender with screws, which can scrape the paint off every time. Additionally, it's important to note that there is a major safety hazard in this car that is not disclosed at the time of purchase. Only by reading the owner's manual will you find out about the issue, which relates to people with pacemakers or those who know someone with one. The issue is related to the tire pressure monitoring system.
