Chrysler 300m problems

The Chrysler 300M is a full-size luxury car that was produced by Daimler/Chrysler from 1999 to 2004. It is a front-wheel drive, 255 hp (190 kW; 259 PS) V6 engined car using the Chrysler LH platform. Versus its platform mates, the 300M was roughly 10 inches (25 cm) shorter to make it more easily exportable to Europe. Priced above the Concorde and identically to the LHS, the 300M shared Chrysler's flagship position with the LHS until the LHS's discontinuation after 2001, upon which it became Chrysler's sole flagship model.
Design
Prior to Chrysler redesigning the LH-cars in 1998, the Eagle Vision filled the "import-fighter" segment. Its second-generation replacement was reportedly benchmarked against the BMW 5 Series, yet with Chrysler discontinuing the entire Eagle line after 1998, the automaker shifted this vehicle to the Chrysler lineup, bringing back the famed "300" model name. Although the cars were not rear-wheel-drive, special-production models, nor V8-powered with engines rated at 300 horsepower as did the historic models, the 300M used the next letter available in the 300 Letter Series, following the 1965 300L. The 300M also lacked the traditional "cross-hair" grille of previous 300 models, as by the mid-1980s it had been adopted by sister division Dodge for its entire model line.
Had the Eagle brand not been dropped, the 300M reportedly would have been sold as a redesigned Eagle Vision. Test cars, factory manuals, and design images were prepared for the second-generation Vision featuring a prominent Eagle badge on the grille. Sharing its powertrain and interior with the Chrysler LHS, the 300M was some ten inches shorter in overall length, allowing it to fit the European "5-metre" (16.4 ft) size class for exports to Europe. Despite this, wheelbase was shared with all other second generation LH cars, with reductions in length coming from shortened front and rear overhangs.

I'm so glad to hear that you've enjoyed owning two 300Ms! It's great to hear that your second one has been trouble-free. I can definitely understand your frustration with the high trunk sill getting scratched by heavy suitcases, but overall it sounds like you've had a positive experience with these cars.

This car has been causing me some trouble lately. While it's been a joy to drive when it's working properly, it seems to be costing me a lot of money now that it has reached 87K miles. Unfortunately, every little problem turns out to be a big and expensive one. In the past few months, my 300M has required a head gasket(!), front control arms & struts, an A/C evaporator core, and now it needs a new computer (due to a failed purge sensor). All of these repairs have cost me nearly $5,000. I will be reaching out to Chrysler to express my concerns. It's a shame, because I have otherwise loved this car.

It handles smoothly and is an exhilarating, fun car to drive, whether in autostick mode or regular automatic drive. The interior and exterior are everything that a person would want in an automobile at an affordable price. No attention to detail has been left wanting. Thanks, Chrysler, for this winning design. It has great curb appeal!

This car is amazing! It's so comfortable and has 250 HP while still getting 26 MPG combined city/hwy. I bought it used in 1/2005 with 120k on it and it still had all the original parts, including shocks, struts, battery, and brakes. The previous owner barely did any maintenance on it, but I took care of it and put new tires on it. Over the next 2 years, I drove it for another 65k miles and it never let me down. All I had to do was change the oil every 3k miles. It was the best car I've ever owned and I got it for a steal at only $7k (even with the high mileage). I wish they still made this model, but the new 300 just doesn't compare in terms of features and price.

I'm so happy with my Chrysler 300 M! It has a great combination of looks, handling, and performance. Out of the two Chrysler products I owned during the 90s (the other being an LHS), the 300 M is definitely the superior machine. I haven't had any issues with either vehicle. Would I buy another 300 M? Only if I ever wear out the one I already have.

We appreciate how the car handles and drives, but unfortunately, we have experienced several issues with it. Despite our attempts to resolve these issues with Chrysler, we have not received the support we were hoping for. The power windows have malfunctioned four times, and the power locks have broken twice. Additionally, the A/C stopped working after only 41000 miles, and the fuel sensor also went bad. We have encountered several other problems as well. Regrettably, this experience has led us to the decision that we will not be purchasing a Chrysler product again.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to let you know that I noticed the AC doesn't seem to cool the passengers in the back seats very well. Also, I noticed that the molding on the inside of the doors pulls away about a 1/4 inch. While the car doesn't have a significant amount of UMPH over the regular 300M engine, it does have a nice sporty sound (especially the exhaust) and some great style. It looks really good! I just thought it could have been a little more special. Thanks for listening!

Hello! If you're experiencing any issues with front end wheel play, shimmy or noise, and excessive tire wear, I wanted to let you know that there may be a difference in alignment tolerance between Chrysler dealerships and independent high-quality front-end alignments. It's always a good idea to check your bushings and keep an eye on your rack and pinion. We had to replace ours after experiencing excessive play in the steering. Additionally, we had to replace three power locks at different times, and the window tubing shrunk and had to be replaced several times. During a recent recall to fix seat mounts, unfortunately, the dealership broke the power seat motors. I hope this information is helpful to you!

The window operators were failing until all four were replaced. Additionally, the driver door switch is unable to control the passenger window, and the two key memory settings never stay set. The side view mirrors move when the gear shift is moved into neutral. Sometimes, turning the ignition switch for the first time does not get a starter response, and usually requires turning twice. The ignition switch has been replaced once previously. Despite these issues, the car drives and handles well, achieving 26-28 mpg gas mileage. However, the armrests are too far from the body to be comfortable for a man of 6'2'', although this is my wife's car. Lastly, the road noise from the tires is excessive for a car that costs this much, regardless of the excuse.

I am very satisfied with this vehicle. It is easy to drive, performs exceptionally well, and has an attractive appearance. Although, after 4 years of use, I have noticed some minor issues with the interior materials. Specifically, some of the plastic around the window/lock switches and gear selector can become sticky, which can be difficult to clean. Additionally, I have noticed some minor wear on the upper portion of one of the rear leather seats, despite my efforts to maintain the vehicle. However, these issues are minor and do not detract from the overall quality of the vehicle.
