Chrysler 300m problems

The Chrysler 300M is a full-size luxury car that was produced by Daimler/Chrysler from 1999 to 2004. It is a front-wheel drive, 255 hp (190 kW; 259 PS) V6 engined car using the Chrysler LH platform. Versus its platform mates, the 300M was roughly 10 inches (25 cm) shorter to make it more easily exportable to Europe. Priced above the Concorde and identically to the LHS, the 300M shared Chrysler's flagship position with the LHS until the LHS's discontinuation after 2001, upon which it became Chrysler's sole flagship model.

Design

Prior to Chrysler redesigning the LH-cars in 1998, the Eagle Vision filled the "import-fighter" segment. Its second-generation replacement was reportedly benchmarked against the BMW 5 Series, yet with Chrysler discontinuing the entire Eagle line after 1998, the automaker shifted this vehicle to the Chrysler lineup, bringing back the famed "300" model name. Although the cars were not rear-wheel-drive, special-production models, nor V8-powered with engines rated at 300 horsepower as did the historic models, the 300M used the next letter available in the 300 Letter Series, following the 1965 300L. The 300M also lacked the traditional "cross-hair" grille of previous 300 models, as by the mid-1980s it had been adopted by sister division Dodge for its entire model line.

Had the Eagle brand not been dropped, the 300M reportedly would have been sold as a redesigned Eagle Vision. Test cars, factory manuals, and design images were prepared for the second-generation Vision featuring a prominent Eagle badge on the grille. Sharing its powertrain and interior with the Chrysler LHS, the 300M was some ten inches shorter in overall length, allowing it to fit the European "5-metre" (16.4 ft) size class for exports to Europe. Despite this, wheelbase was shared with all other second generation LH cars, with reductions in length coming from shortened front and rear overhangs.

These problems can be caused by a variety of factors, including worn-out spark plugs, clogged fuel injectors, and malfunctioning sensors.
  7. Interior Problems
Interior problems are also common with the Chrysler 300M. Many owners have reported issues with the car's interior, including broken buttons, malfunctioning climate control, and worn-out upholstery. These problems can be caused by a variety of factors, including poor design, low-quality materials, and heavy use.
  8. Exterior Problems
Exterior problems are another common issue with the Chrysler 300M. Many owners have reported issues with the car's exterior, including rust, paint problems, and damaged trim. These problems can be caused by a variety of factors, including exposure to the elements, poor design, and low-quality materials.
  9. Fuel System Problems
Fuel system problems are also common with the Chrysler 300M. Many owners have reported issues with the car's fuel system, including poor fuel economy, difficulty starting, and rough idling. Latest negative Chrysler 300m car reviews

  1. Kaley Medhurst 2025-07-27

    Vehicle year: 2000

At 4 years old and with 21,185 miles, the car required a complete steering box and sway bar replacement in July 2004. Although the dealer estimated a bill of $2100, I was pleased to receive a goodwill adjustment that reduced it to $300. In June of this year, the air conditioner began blowing warm air, and the dealer recharged it for $246 after checking for leaks. Unfortunately, the air conditioner is now blowing warm air again, and the dealer has informed me that the Evaporator needs to be replaced at a cost of $1050. Despite the car having 28,861 miles, Chrysler refused to provide an adjustment. While I have had previous Chryslers, I have never had to replace major components like these. Regrettably, I will not be purchasing another Chrysler.

  2. Jackson Cummerata 2025-07-17

    Vehicle year: 2001

I bought the car used with 21k miles on it. Unfortunately, the transmission went out at 49k, but thankfully I had purchased an extended warranty that covered it up to 50k. The air conditioning also stopped working at 52k, and it cost $1,500 to repair the compressor and evaporator. At 62k, the car overheated and I had to have the heads redone, which was a $3,000 repair. The crankshaft and bearings also needed repair at 71k, which cost $1800. Additionally, the interior dash lights flicker and the CD player doesn't work properly, which is a bit frustrating. There's also a crack in the dashboard over the passenger airbag, which seems to be a common problem with these cars. Finally, my tires go low all the time due to spurs on the rims, which need to be filed down. The car only gets 16.5 mpg, but unfortunately, it doesn't qualify for the

  3. Beau Lueilwitz 2025-07-09

    Vehicle year: 2002

When I was searching for a car back in 2007, I never even considered a Chrysler 300M. I was initially looking at a couple of Pontiac Grand Prix's when my eyes caught sight of this beauty. This car stood out in a room filled with over 50 cars at a local dealer in Toronto. After taking it for a test drive with a couple of friends in the back seat, who by the way found the back seat to be ultra comfortable with support for the back of your knee, I instantly fell in love with this car. The performance from the engine was surprisingly awesome for a 3.5 lt V6 in a full-sized sedan, and so was the handling. Every time I take this thing out for a spin, I feel very confident while taking turns that it won't under or oversteer.

  4. Daron Ryan 2025-06-20

I purchased my 2001 300m last summer and was initially enamoured with its picture-perfect carfax and beautiful appearance. Unfortunately, my experience with the car was not as smooth as I had hoped. I had to replace the front struts and a tie rod end for $890, and a few months later the ac condenser went out. Despite repairs, the car still rode rough compared to my Avalon. Finally, the transmission failed, leaving me disappointed that the car died at only 175,000 miles. Although I take good care of my vehicles, this one did not last long. It was the third owner and came with maintenance records, but I will not be purchasing another one.

This car has a nice design, but unfortunately, I have had some issues with it. The electric windows, electric seat, air conditioner compressor, and stereo speakers have all given me some trouble. I have leased mine and am looking forward to turning it in. This experience has made me hesitant to consider another Chrysler product in the future.

Congratulations on your purchase of the 2004 300m special sedan! It's great to hear that you haven't had any warranty problems and that you're enjoying the luxurious features such as the power sunroof and leather seats. While the car looks stylish both inside and out, it's unfortunate that it makes a lot of noise. However, it's wonderful to hear that you've driven almost 20,000 km without any troubles. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!

I had a feeling that the 300M Special would be an exceptional driving and handling machine ever since I rented a 2000 300M back in 2000. The Special has not only met but exceeded my expectations in every way, and I've only driven it for 1500 miles! Additionally, my graphite gray and charcoal model is a real head-turner! The only issue I had was that it didn't shift correctly until I changed the air filter. Now, it can really show off its stuff! It has almost all the features that Specials come with, except for the Nav/Satellite radio and U-Connect, which are both on my wish list. The spacious interior, sleek design, comfortable ride, high performance, and all the bells and whistles make this car a driver's dream. With today's gas prices, it's also a great value.

I bought the 300M new and now have 181,000 on her. I have had to do no major repairs, just belts and brakes. This car is amazing! It rides great, the seats are wonderful, and it has good performance and mileage (19 city, 24 hwy). I'm not getting rid of this one until something major dies on it.

The car looks great both inside and out. I really liked the style and the nice dash. However, I was disappointed with the road noise, which felt like driving a pick-up truck. The ride was bumpy and I could feel every bump and crack in the road. The fuel economy was also not as good as I expected for a V6, averaging only 20 combined highway and city. On the bright side, the interior was comfortable, although the AC could use some improvement. One downside was that everything inside was black, which I thought was a mistake. Additionally, the rotors were always rusting and making a mess on the garage floor. In short, while I enjoyed some aspects of the car, I am looking forward to getting back to a Lincoln. I haven't had a Chrysler in 32 years and hope to never have another one.

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to let you know that I bought the first one in Wisconsin and I still love it. It's the best car I've ever owned!
