2001 Chrysler 300m problems

chrysler logo

The Chrysler 300M is a full-size luxury car that was produced by Daimler/Chrysler from 1999 to 2004. It is a front-wheel drive, 255 hp (190 kW; 259 PS) V6 engined car using the Chrysler LH platform. Versus its platform mates, the 300M was roughly 10 inches (25 cm) shorter to make it more easily exportable to Europe. Priced above the Concorde and identically to the LHS, the 300M shared Chrysler's flagship position with the LHS until the LHS's discontinuation after 2001, upon which it became Chrysler's sole flagship model.

Design

Prior to Chrysler redesigning the LH-cars in 1998, the Eagle Vision filled the "import-fighter" segment. Its second-generation replacement was reportedly benchmarked against the BMW 5 Series, yet with Chrysler discontinuing the entire Eagle line after 1998, the automaker shifted this vehicle to the Chrysler lineup, bringing back the famed "300" model name. Although the cars were not rear-wheel-drive, special-production models, nor V8-powered with engines rated at 300 horsepower as did the historic models, the 300M used the next letter available in the 300 Letter Series, following the 1965 300L. The 300M also lacked the traditional "cross-hair" grille of previous 300 models, as by the mid-1980s it had been adopted by sister division Dodge for its entire model line.

Had the Eagle brand not been dropped, the 300M reportedly would have been sold as a redesigned Eagle Vision. Test cars, factory manuals, and design images were prepared for the second-generation Vision featuring a prominent Eagle badge on the grille. Sharing its powertrain and interior with the Chrysler LHS, the 300M was some ten inches shorter in overall length, allowing it to fit the European "5-metre" (16.4 ft) size class for exports to Europe. Despite this, wheelbase was shared with all other second generation LH cars, with reductions in length coming from shortened front and rear overhangs.

AIR BAGS PROBLEM

AS HE WAS CLOSE TO HIS COLLEGE I TOLD HIM TO BE CAREFUL BUT CONTINUE ON TO SCHOOL, I WOULD CALL HIS UNCLE WHO IS A MECHANIC AND THEN LET HIM KNOW WHAT TO DO AFTER HIS CLASS WAS OVER. I CALLED THE INSURANCE COMPANY AND MY BROTHER. MY BROTHER SAID TO HAVE HIM DRIVE IT TO HIS SHOP SO HE COULD LOOK AT IT. THE INSURANCE COMPANY STARTED A CLAIM. THE INSURANCE COMPANY HAS INVESTIGATED AND DOES NOT BELIEVE IT WILL BE COVERED AS THERE WAS NOT A COLLISION OF ANY KIND AND THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYING FOR NO REASON IS NOT COVERED UNDER MY COMPREHENSIVE INSURANCE. MY BROTHER RAN A DIAGNOSTIC AND THESE ARE THE CODES THAT CAME UP: ACTIVE - "DRIVER SQUIB" AND "PASSENGER SQUIB", STORED - "ORC ACCELEROMETER", "DRIVER SQUIB #1 CIRCUIT OPEN", "PASSENGER SQUIB #1 CIRCUIT OPEN" AND "DRIVER SQUIB #1 SHORT TO GROUND". THERE WAS OBVIOUSLY A MALFUNCTION SOMEWHERE WITHIN THE AIRBAG SYSTEM. ANY ASSISTANCE WITH THIS ISSUE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. THANK YOU. *TR

Negative 2001 Chrysler 300m car reviews

  1. Zack Runte 2024-06-23

Hello everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience with purchasing a 2001 Chrysler 300M. The car looks amazing and is really enjoyable to drive. I was able to get a great deal from a dealer and the previous owner took excellent care of it, as evidenced by the records. Unfortunately, on the second day of driving it, I noticed some shaking between 50-70 mph. After some investigation, it turns out that the torque converter and timing belt need to be replaced, which will cost around $3k. Despite this setback, I still believe in buying American-made products. I hope that American car manufacturers will continue to improve their products so that we can all enjoy high-quality vehicles. Thank you for reading!

Although my last car was a Lincoln Town Car, I decided to purchase a Chrysler 300M this time due to its affordable price. However, I have encountered some minor issues with the parking brake light that won't turn off, despite having it fixed multiple times. As a result, I cannot rely on the parking brake to disengage properly, and I avoid using it altogether. Additionally, the suspension has proven to be unreliable, causing the car to slide out on sharp turns when starting from zero, as if the tires are turning under. Despite these issues, I remain confident in my decision to purchase the 300M.

My 300M has been plagued with issues since I purchased it almost 2 years ago. Despite numerous attempts to fix the overheating and stalling issues, the problems persisted. Additionally, the radio malfunctioned and the lights inside the car flickered uncontrollably. Unfortunately, the transmission has now failed. As a result of these persistent issues, I have lost confidence in Chrysler and will not be purchasing from them again.

At around 30K miles, the car began to overheat. Although I can't recall the exact issue, the repair cost amounted to $600. Shortly after, the check engine light came on and has remained illuminated since. Auto Zone has indicated that the problem is related to the computer, but I have yet to take it in for repairs due to financial constraints. More recently, at 57K miles, the car has been displaying a number of unusual signals. Currently, the radio stops playing after just an hour and can only be restarted by adjusting the volume. Additionally, the dash lights have been flickering intermittently.

Bought a 2001 with 10,000 miles on it about three weeks ago, and so far...we love this car. We are very impressed with the comfort of the interior, and the exterior speaks for itself. It's one of those cars you find yourself staring at as you walk away from it in a parking lot!

I have been a fan of Chrysler products since the mid-80s. My first car was an '85 Dodge Charger 2.2, followed by an '89 Daytona ES. After a brief stint with a Pontiac Grand Am (what a mistake!), I came back to my senses and got a '97 Eagle Vision. Next, I had an '02 Dodge Status Coupe, which I traded for an '01 Chrysler 300M. I have put over 140,000 miles on all of these Chrysler products with minimal expenses. You could almost say that I was abusive to the Charger and Daytona, but they held up well. Currently, my 300M has 62,000 miles on it. If anyone were to ask my opinion, I would absolutely recommend this car. It's a full-size sport sedan that can achieve 27.8 mpg on the highway!

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with the 300M. I bought my first one back in 1999 and loved it so much that I decided to buy a new one in August 2001. I even kept the older one for my son to drive to college! As a fairly big guy, I can honestly say that it's one of the most comfortable cars I've ever driven or ridden in. I love entertaining and the back seat is spacious enough to accommodate another couple comfortably, even for tall folks. The sunroof in the 2001 300M is also amazing and provides plenty of headroom. Overall, I think it's a great car and I hope they keep building them. I'm sure I'll be buying another one in a few years!
