2002 Chrysler 300m problems
The Chrysler 300M is a full-size luxury car that was produced by Daimler/Chrysler from 1999 to 2004. It is a front-wheel drive, 255 hp (190 kW; 259 PS) V6 engined car using the Chrysler LH platform. Versus its platform mates, the 300M was roughly 10 inches (25 cm) shorter to make it more easily exportable to Europe. Priced above the Concorde and identically to the LHS, the 300M shared Chrysler's flagship position with the LHS until the LHS's discontinuation after 2001, upon which it became Chrysler's sole flagship model.
Design
Prior to Chrysler redesigning the LH-cars in 1998, the Eagle Vision filled the "import-fighter" segment. Its second-generation replacement was reportedly benchmarked against the BMW 5 Series, yet with Chrysler discontinuing the entire Eagle line after 1998, the automaker shifted this vehicle to the Chrysler lineup, bringing back the famed "300" model name. Although the cars were not rear-wheel-drive, special-production models, nor V8-powered with engines rated at 300 horsepower as did the historic models, the 300M used the next letter available in the 300 Letter Series, following the 1965 300L. The 300M also lacked the traditional "cross-hair" grille of previous 300 models, as by the mid-1980s it had been adopted by sister division Dodge for its entire model line.
Had the Eagle brand not been dropped, the 300M reportedly would have been sold as a redesigned Eagle Vision. Test cars, factory manuals, and design images were prepared for the second-generation Vision featuring a prominent Eagle badge on the grille. Sharing its powertrain and interior with the Chrysler LHS, the 300M was some ten inches shorter in overall length, allowing it to fit the European "5-metre" (16.4 ft) size class for exports to Europe. Despite this, wheelbase was shared with all other second generation LH cars, with reductions in length coming from shortened front and rear overhangs.

Common 2002 Chrysler 300m problems
The Chrysler 300M, produced in 2002, has been known to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. Here are some of the most frequently reported issues:
- Damaged Cam Position Sensor: This issue may cause engine problems in the Chrysler 300M. The cam position sensor is responsible for monitoring the position of the camshaft, which is crucial for the engine's fuel injection and ignition systems. If the sensor is damaged, it may lead to engine misfires, stalling, or difficulty starting the vehicle.
- Faulty Electrical Systems: The Chrysler 300M has been reported to have issues with its electrical systems. These problems can range from malfunctioning power windows to more serious issues like airbag problems. Power window malfunctions are often caused by worn-out window motors or faulty window regulators. Airbag issues can be more dangerous, potentially leading to accidents if the airbags fail to deploy in a crash.
- Musty Smell from HVAC Vents: Some owners have reported a musty smell coming from the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) vents in their Chrysler 300M. This issue is typically caused by mold or mildew growth in the HVAC system, which can be a result of excess moisture or poor maintenance.
- Rough Shifting: The Chrysler 300M has been known to have issues with rough shifting, particularly when shifting from first to second gear. This problem can be caused by a variety of factors, including worn-out transmission components, low transmission fluid levels, or issues with the vehicle's throttle position sensor.
- Engine Problems: Some owners of the Chrysler 300M have reported engine problems, including stalling at low speeds and engine failure due to oil sludge. These issues can be caused by a variety of factors, including poor maintenance, faulty components, or design flaws in the engine itself.
- Transmission Problems: The Chrysler 300M has also been known to have transmission problems, including slipping, jerking, or failing to shift properly. These issues can be caused by worn-out transmission components, low transmission fluid levels, or problems with the vehicle's solenoid pack or valve body.
- Stripped Screws in Valve Body: In some cases, the Chrysler 300M has been known to have stripped screws in the valve body of the transmission. This issue can cause the transmission to slip into limp-in mode, particularly when the temperature outside is above 55 to 60°F. The problem can be caused by poor maintenance or improper installation of replacement parts.
- Input/Output Sensor Issues: Some owners of the Chrysler 300M have reported issues with the input/output sensor, which can cause the speedometer to malfunction and the transmission to slip into limp-in mode. These issues can be caused by worn-out or faulty sensors, or by problems with the wiring or connectors in the vehicle's electrical system.
- Interior Issues: The Chrysler 300M has been known to have several interior issues, including cracked dashboards, non-functioning air conditioning, and random flashing of dash lights and headlights. These issues can be caused by a variety of factors, including poor design, low-quality materials, or faulty components.
- Steering Problems: Some owners of the Chrysler 300M have reported steering problems, including difficulty steering at low speeds or when the vehicle is stationary. These issues can be caused by worn-out or damaged steering components, low power steering fluid levels, or problems with the vehicle's steering sensor or electronic control unit.
It's important to note that not all Chrysler 300M vehicles will experience these issues, and that some problems may be more common in certain model years or production runs. If you're considering purchasing a Chrysler 300M, it's a good idea to research the vehicle's reliability and common problems, and to have any potential issues inspected and addressed by a qualified mechanic before making a purchase.

You've made a great choice with this car for your road trips! It performs really well on the highway, getting around 26mpg, which is great. While the mileage around town is a little concerning at around 18mpg, it's still a reliable car. The car is so smooth and powerful that it's almost too easy to speed, but it's important to stay safe on the road. Although there is a 110mph speed limiter, it's still a great car for those who like high speeds. The interior quality of the 300M could be improved, as some of the plastic pieces don't quite fit together and produce annoying rattles in the dash, doors, and headliner. However, overall it's a good touring car with a roomy and comfortable interior. Thank you for choosing this car for your road trips!
-
Hi there! It's great to hear that you've had your 300M for 110,000 miles and have been averaging 23.2 miles per gallon during Connecticut's winter driving season, and 24.4 miles during the summer! The car sounds like it's been really solid for you. It's impressive that you've only had to change the front brakes at 87,000 miles and just did the rear at 107,000. You must be taking great care of it! Even though you're still waiting to do a tuneup and change the original battery, it's amazing that the car has been so reliable. It's a good car overall, and I'm glad to hear that you're pleased with it. Thanks for sharing your experience with us!

Your car is really nice and fun to drive. However, I noticed that the suspension can be a bit choppy on secondary roads and there are a few too many rattles for a new car. I understand that this is a common issue for American cars compared to export cars. The 11-speaker sound system is okay, but I did notice that 3-4 speakers vibrate and bottom out if the bass is set too high. Additionally, I was surprised to find that the sunroof doesn't have an auto-close feature when the car is turned off. I had this feature on my '94 Eagle Vision! Lastly, I found it inconvenient that the windows can't be closed with the accessory setting on ignition. I hope this feedback is helpful.
-
Nice car and very comfortable to drive. Lots of great features that are simple and easy to operate. However, the A/C could use some improvement as it takes a while to cool the interior and maintain a constant temperature. I have noticed that my 2001 Grand Caravan Sport company car has a better A/C at a lower price point. Despite this, I have found the dealership to be helpful in addressing the issue.

This is a stylish and comfortable vehicle that presents itself with class. It's a welcomed improvement to some of those Japanese entries and a lot more comfortable. I can't understand why this car doesn't get more recognition.

The air/heat system is emitting an irritating sound that can be compared to whales communicating. The service team has identified the issue as gas leakage from the compressor. However, they seem to lack the expertise to resolve the problem.

Hello! Thank you for considering this car! It's a great option to buy used, especially at the price of 12900 dollars for a car with 60k miles on it. You'll get near-luxury features along with a decent body and engine. I personally think that paying 30k for this car would be too much, but at 12k, it's a great deal. While the reliability has been okay, there have been some issues with the transmission and interior parts. Additionally, the sound system is below average and there is some road noise. However, the performance and handling are decent, and the exhaust note is great! Let me know if you have any questions or if there's anything else I can help you with!

I am pleased with the performance and appearance of my 300M, which lives up to its advertised standards. However, I have experienced some issues with the dealership and the quality of the car, which is unfortunately typical of Chrysler products. Within the first month, my passenger window malfunctioned and required repair. Additionally, the dashboard split open near the passenger airbag, which took several weeks to fix. As a Chrysler employee, I remain committed to supporting my company, and I hope that management and the union can work together to improve the quality of our cars and regain market share.
